There are 10 Special Equipment (Special Weapon) Challenges in Crimson Desert. They are part of the Mastery Category. Finishing all Special Equipment Challenges unlocks the Grand Collector of Arms trophy & achievement.
Challenges Overview:
Note for all weapons currently the Kuku versions DO NOT COUNT toward the challenges, you must use the base version.
Special Weapon 1: Flamespitter
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Crimson Desert, at the intersection south of Varnia Saltroad Camp.

- Challenge: Burn 10 enemies within 15 seconds using the Flamespitter.
- How to Complete: Electromagnetic Flamespitters can only be consistently obtained in one way, which requires progressing to Chapter 11 so that you have access to the research facility at Zargan Tankworks in Gorthak, northwestern Delesyia.

The second level of research Weapon Heat-Treatment Research which allows you to send Greymane expedition to craft the Flamespitter at Gorthak Ironworks.

Once you’ve obtained a Flamespitter, you only need to burn a total of 10 enemies within a 15 second window. While equipped, the Flamespitter goes into your ranged weapon slot, and functions in a similar manner. Aim and then hold to fire a continuous stream of fire where you are aiming. The durability limit of the Flamespitter drains the longer you use it, so you can’t use it forever, but the requirement is only to light enemies on fire, not defeat them. Find a large group of at least 10 enemies and then aim through the group to complete the requirement. - Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Greater Flameward
Special Weapon 2: Propeller Spear
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Crimson Desert, along the road northwest from Oasis Hearth.

- Challenge: Hit 5 enemies at once with a propeller spear wind attack.
- How to Complete: Propeller Spears can be consistently obtained in two ways, which require progressing to Chapter 11 and 12 of the story. The first is with research at Great Gate of Urdavah available starting in Chapter 11. The second level research Wind Energy Fusion Device Research allows you to send Greymane expeditions to Helmara in the Crimson Desert to obtain a Propeller Spear.

The second requires reaching Chapter 12 to have access to the research facility at the City of Delysia. The first level of research Delesyian Institute: Basic Science Research awards you with the blueprint for the Propeller Spear, so you can then construct as many as you like from a smithy.

Once you have obtained one, equip it in the secondary slot. The way the Propeller Spear works is that it sends forward a wave of air with each normal attack, so you need to line up at least 5 enemies then attack, and hope that the wind that is sent hits 5 enemies. This may count multiple times if you attack quickly, so find a large group of enemies and try to group them together and attack multiple times with basic attack. - Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Faded Abyss Artifact, 1x Shred II
Special Weapon 3: Knuckledrill
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Crimson Desert, at intersection northwest of Isvatu Fortress.

- Challenge: Hit the explosion from the overheated Knuckledrill 5 times.
- How to Complete: There are two ways you can obtain the Knuckledrill. The first is as a reward from House Roberts: Estate in Dismay – Stolen Quarry quest located in Hernand. If you lose the first one, you can create more by sending Greymanes to Karin Quarry to complete the mission Mining Drill Production, after you have completed Electric Tool Design Research at Dewhaven Keep and after you have reached Chapter 12 of the story.
After you have obtained it you can equip it in the secondary slot and use it either as a weapon or for mining. When attacking enemies with the Knuckledrill, holding basic attack
will cause you to hold it out in front of you, thereby constantly hitting the enemy you are aiming at. After a few seconds a finishing move will occur, knocking the enemy back. Do this a total of 5 times. - Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Lightningward II
Special Weapon 4: Lightning Spear
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Crimson Desert, on side of road north of Arcosa in the wooden shrine.

- Challenge: Defeat 30 enemies with the Lightning Spear.
- How to Complete: Lightning Spears can be consistently obtained in two ways, but both require progressing to Chapter 12 to have access to the research facility at Dewhaven Keep in Deleysia. The first level of research Dewhaven Keep Facility Research awards you with the blueprint for the Lightning Spear, so you can then construct as many as you like from a smithy.

If you then complete the second level research Electric Tool Design Research you can send expeditions to Steelspike Armory in Delysia to obtain 1 Lightning Spear per dispatch.

The Lightning Spear functions like a normal spear moveset wise, but deals electric damage to enemies. - Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Lightningward II
Special Weapon 5: Bismuth Spear
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Pailune, at intersection immediately west of Svinholt Ranch in small wooden shrine.

- Challenge: Defeat 30 enemies with the Bismuth Spear.
- How to Complete: The Bismuth Spear is obtained from the location Well of Enlightenment in Crimson Desert. You can obtain one of them at the location to start after it is liberated when you defeat the Bismuth Oreback Crab boss.

If you need more than one spear to reach the 30 enemies requirement, you can obtain another by sending a Greymane expedition to the location, which will grant you 1 more spear each time.

The Bismuth Spear functions like a normal spear moveset wise, but deals bismuth damage to enemies. - Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Faded Abyss Artifact, 1x Heart of Stone
Special Weapon 6: Lightning Bolt Plate Armor
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Deleysia, on side of the road south of Marni’s Laboratorium Gate.

- Challenge: Obtain Titan’s armor.
- How to Complete: The Lightning Bolt Plate Armor is a unique chest armor item that is obtained from a Faction Quest located in Pailune. To access it you’ll first need to complete all quests in the Pailune Militia, Beighen Tribe, Skoghorn Tribe, and Longleaf Tribe sections. After these are done you’ll obtain both the Stjar Clan and Odeck Tribe sections, with the armor being a reward at the end of the Stjar Clan questline Master of Thunder.

This questline first asks you to clear an area of Jackals, then make your way up the mountain toward Windsong Peaks. When you reach there, you can find a platform with 5 crystals on short pillars in the middle of the area.

Here you need to find the 5 other pillars around the area and rotate them so that the lightning jumps between them in a loop. You can see the location of the pillars and mark them directly if you open the map and change to the Environment heading, then it would be recommended to mark the next in the sequence so you can more easily aim toward it.

You aim the pillars by rotating them with the bar sticking out the side, with it pointing in the direction the lightning is shooting. You can also see this visually if you look toward the next pillar where the lightning will hit the crystal on the top. Two of the pillars you will have to pick up and place with Nature’s Grasp (using Turning Slash to break the ice holding one of them), and two others you will need to turn the crank on them to the correct position (represented by a noise and sparks) then press the button to activate them.

Once all of the pillars are correctly lined up you’ll be able to see the lightning shooting very fast between them. You can go back to the middle pillar and all of the crystals will be lit up with lightning going between them. Stand in the middle to trigger a cutscene.

Now you will have the new quest step Fallen God, where you need to make your way up the hill to fight the boss Titan. Titan isn’t too strong, the main thing to be aware of is that he leaves electric damaging areas all over the place, so don’t stand in any of the blue spots on the ground. If you do it for too long you’ll be stunned temporarily. The boss has two health bars, but mostly does slow easy to dodge attacks and doesn’t have a huge amount of health overall. In the second phase when he flies up into the air keep dodging to the side to avoid the lightning strikes until he lands.

After the first two health bars the fight isn’t over, as Titan gets much bigger and starts attacking you from the side of the platform. Now you need to wait for him to do an attack such as punching the platform, then attack the fingers on his hand while he is touching the ground. If you fill the stun bar before defeating him then he will temporarily drop to the ground allowing you to get more damage in. Once the boss is defeated you will automatically obtain the Lighting Bolt Plate Armor completing the challenge, along with the spear Reckoning and 1x Abyss Artifact.

- Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Greater Malicebane
Special Weapon 7: Gale Shield
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Demeniss, at intersection northwest of Demeniss Barracks.

- Challenge: Subdue 30 enemies with the gale shield.
- How to Complete: Gale Shields can only be consistently obtained in one way, which requires progressing to Chapter 11 of the story. At Great Gate of Urdavah available starting in Chapter 11, the second level research Wind Energy Fusion Device Research allows you to send Greymane expeditions to Helmara in the Crimson Desert after it has been liberated to obtain 1x Gale Shield per expedition.

Once you’ve obtained a Gale Shield, defeat a total of 30 enemies using it. You will very likely need more than one shield, as the low durability isn’t helpful for defeating multiple enemies. To use it, you block three hits of damage, then instead of Shield Bash
+
the shield will shoot out a wave of air similar to the Propeller Spear. The problem with it though is that if an enemy is knocked back by the wind and then is defeated from falling, this doesn’t count toward the requirement, only if the small amount of damage from the air wave immediately defeated them. To get around this, you can continually hit enemies with Shield Bash to damage them directly, even if you don’t have air wave charges, and this does count as long as hitting the enemy with the Shield Bash is what defeats them. This still doesn’t do a lot of damage though, so if you don’t want to have to go through a bunch of shields try this on weaker enemies like basic bandits in Hernand. - Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Greater Destruction
Special Weapon 8: Marni Laser Helm
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Delesyia, at the intersection north of Sanctum of Devotion.

- Challenge: Hit 5 enemies with the Marni Laser Helm’s laser.
- How to Complete: Marni’s Laser Helm is located in Marni’s Masterium on the southern end of Delesyia, in a side room near the end of the road. If you come to this location earlier in the game you can pick it up, but if the location is hostile due to the story events in Chapter 11 you will need to wait until Chapter 12 to obtain it as you can’t pick it up while there are enemies near you. Currently you can only obtain 1 of the helm during a playthrough and only the base version of the helmet counts for the challenge, so do not sell or discard it, and don’t turn it into the Kuku version before completing the challenge.

Now that you have the helm, equip it as your helmet, then you will need to enable it in the Function menu. After that, find some enemies and after it locks on, use
+
to hit enemies. The helmet has a 1 minute cooldown between uses if you don’t hit 5 using the first usage.

- Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Greater Steelbane
Special Weapon 9: Shotgun Shield
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Demeniss, at intersection northeast of Ironbarrel Armory in a small shrine.

- Challenge: Defeat 30 enemies with the shotgun shield.
- How to Complete: Shotgun Shields can only be consistently obtained in one way, which first requires progressing to Chapter 11 so that you have access to the research facility at Zargan Tankworks in Gorthak, northwestern Delesyia.

The second level of research Weapon Heat-Treatment Research which allows you to send Greymane expedition to craft the shield. You need to progress to Chapter 12 so that Delesyia is liberated, and you are now able to send for 1 shield per expedition to be crafted at the Aeronautical Research Base.

Once you’ve obtained a Shotgun Shield, defeat a total of 30 enemies using them. You will very likely need more than one shield, as the low durability isn’t helpful for defeating multiple enemies. To use it, you block three hits of damage, then instead of Shield Bash
+
the shield will shoot out bullets in a wave in front of you. To deal the most damage try to do this when you have enemies right beside you, as the spread and damage fall-off causes it to be very weak to anyone farther away. - Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Fortitude II
Special Weapon 10: Vessel of Dark Pursuit
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Pailune, on side of the road directly north of Totemfelt.

- Challenge: Defeat 100 enemies with Vessel of Dark Pursuit.
- How to Complete: The Vessel of Dark Pursuit is a unique sword that is obtained from one of the Sanctum related quests, Antumbra’s Sword, which is located at the Sanctum of Absolution. Once you have obtained the weapon DO NOT SELL OR DISCARD IT. There is currently only one that can be obtained per playthrough, and if you lose the one from this quest you cannot obtain another. Once you have it, defeat a total of 100 enemies using it.
- Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Energy Drain III

Is there anyway to get the Knuckledrill again? I ended up selling it unfortunately
Gage says
Currently not known. If it hasn’t been long since you sold it you can buy back items from vendors, but that’s the only way we know of currently.
hades says
In the same area where you can fin the boss who give you the Knuckledrill, you can find some ennemies who can use it as a weapon. Your dog/cat can loot it after you kill them.
Gage says
Do they appear there later on if you’ve cleared the area?
If you can loot them off enemies then I assume you can get it elsewhere. I did see some of the robots in Delesyia use them too, so maybe they also drop it.
JKatarn says
Also just found out that, one of the missions you can dispatch at “Karin Quarry” is called “Mining Drill production”, and it gives you a level 2 knuckledrill.
Tom Hughes says
Not sure if it’s a bug, but the lightning spear challenge only works with the Lightning Spear that has 50 durability.
I crafted the Kuku Lightning Spear but none of the kills counted with this spear. Only counted when using the original which seems odd. You have to hit enemies at least 3 times to get a kill.
Unless there’s going to be multiple lightning spears that spawn, I not sure how this challenge is doable.
Tom Hughes says
I found a workaround, but only for the original lightspear (not the upgraded one). If you have Volcanic Eruption abyss gear equipped on a piece of armor, and have the skill Elemental Turning Slash, you can kill enemies without hitting them and using up the durability.
Just use the turning slash near enemies, but hit the ground away from the enemy, and the explosive rocks that come out still count as kills.
I did it with the birds that aggro on Rocca’s Hill.
zlord says
Anyone found a way to get another Vessel of dark pursuit? I melted mine at Carl and even after 20 days he doesnt have it in the recover items tab. T_T
L says
I sold my Vessel of dark pursuit a long time ago as well! They need to add a feature to get these items back. Or the platinum trophy is ruined
DrejzLV says
Lightning spear can be found also in Pailune next to letter “E” there is a Dangsan Tree and next to it there is a bandit camp that has it next to some other weapons.
