- Reach YunoboCo HQ
- Defeat the Evil Boss
- Reach the Top of Death Mountain
- Moragia Boss Fight
- Explore The Depths
- Open the 5 Padlocks in Fire Temple
- Marbled Gohma Boss Fight
- Return to Goron City
Starting Location: Yunobo of Goron City
This quest starts automatically during Main Quest: Regional Phenomena, after going to the quest marker in the northeast of the map (Eldin region). After talking to the village elder in Goron City he will send you to visit Yunobo.
Reach YunoboCo HQ
From Goron City head to the quest marker. You can see the main road on the world map if you activated Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower. If you haven’t already activated the skyview tower it’s highly recommended you do this now to have an easier time navigating the region.
On your way out of town you will come past Marakuguc Shrine, feel free to do this now. The best route to reach YunoboHQ is to combine it with Side Quest: The Ancient City of Gorondia!. At the northeast exit of Goron City, talk to the little orange guy at the minecart tracks.
Use Ultrahand to attach a fan to a minecart, put the cart on the left rail, talk to the quest giver to have him climb in, then climb in yourself and hit the fan to drive down the rail. You will end up at YunoboCo HQ and at the same time complete this quest. Alternatively, you can also walk there and run past the monsters.
Once there, talk to the two small guys (Offrak & Slergo) at the cave entrance. Pick the first dialogue and they will let you pass.
The cave is burning hot. To survive here, you must equip fire-resistant equipment, which you can buy from the armor shop in Goron City or from the shop directly to the left of the cave entrance. Buying the Flamebreaker Armor for 700 Rupees is enough to survive. You don’t need more than this one armor piece. Just make sure you actually equip it from the inventory.
If you don’t have enough Rupees, sell other stuff. You can also go around the area hunting for animals and destroying ore deposits and collecting other materials that can be sold. Especially meat from animals sells for a good price when cooked (e.g. full bird cooked sells for 42 rupees, smaller animals parts sell for 9-18 rupees when cooked, cooked fish sell for 7+ rupees a piece depending on the type).
After equipping the armor, enter the cave. This triggers a boss fight against evil Yunobo.
Defeat the Evil Boss
Wait for evil Yunobo to curl up into a ball. Run sideways to let him roll past you against a wall. Then he will have stars over his head. Quickly hit him to damage his mask. Rinse and repeat. Do this 3 times total until his evil mask breaks.
This ends the fight. With the evil mask destroyed, Yunobo will become friendly.
Reach the Top of Death Mountain
You can now command Yunobo to do fiery rolling attacks. Talk to him with and again press to make him attack. Do this twice on the lava rocks in the cave to break them.
Back outside, we must now head to Death Mountain – it’s the big volcano. It will be marked by a yellow questmarker.
Climb the walls west of the Volcano, where you see smoke coming from.
Optionally, you can enter the West Tunnel of the Volcano to do Side Quest: The Abandoned Laborer.
Now you have to reach the top of Death Mountain. There are two ways to do it. You can either climb the west wall from one cliff to the next, or do it the proper way which is to place a minecart on the tracks and attach a fan. Climb in the minecart, hit the fan and enjoy the ride. This is quicker than climbing up.
Along the way are some enemies and you can command Yunobo to use his charge ability on them, this also grants you various materials. If the fan’s energy runs out, simply wait for it to recharge and hit it again – it may slide back a little bit while it’s inactive but it recharges pretty fast. There’s also a platform at the halfway point where you can make a stop.
When you reach the end of the tracks you will notice a Shrine there. You can drop down and complete this now – see Sitsum Shrine Walkthrough. This also unlocks it as a fast travel point. Afterward, climb back up the wall.
Go forward until Yunobo stops and talks to you. After this, interact with Yunobo again to trigger a longer cutscene. This begins the Moragia boss spawns at the top of the Volcano.
Moragia Boss Fight
Where you talked to Yunobo will be a Bird-like wing with fans on it. Grab it with Ultrahand, place it on the ledge, climb on it, hit the fans to power it now. Quickly grab the stick with in the middle of the bird. If Yunobo is close to you, you may need to press to have him roll away so that you can interact with the stick (since both his attack and the stick interaction use the same button).
Now you can control the flying bird machine with the Left Stick. Fly it up to the 3 Moragia heads and command Yunobo to charge into them with . You only need to hit each head once. However, be careful not to crashland into the Volcano, if the machine gets stuck or if you fall off, you will need to redo the fight.
After hitting all 3 heads the boss is defeated.
Explore The Depths
Jump into the Volcano Crater, press to have more flight control. When approaching the bottom, paraglide to the dark ground and not in the lava. Land at what looks like a yellow glowing “mushroom”.
Interact the yellow glowing thing, which is called a Lightroot. This unlocks a permanent fast travel point and illuminates the area. Talk to Yunobo next to the Lightroot, he will be marked on the map.
You will hear a voice and a new questmarker appears on the map. Head there now. The areas are quite dark, so walk around the edges of lava where there’s more light. You can also drop Brightbloom Seeds from the inventory and attack them to create light. Try to avoid the Gloom (red stuff on floor), it temporarily reduces your available lives. You can restore your lives by going to Lightroots (the fast travel points) or using Sundelion flowers in cooking.
When you arrive at the questmarker you will enter the Fire Temple.
Open the 5 Padlocks in Fire Temple
When you arrive at the Fire Temple, use Yunobo’s ability on the big rock at the entrance. Head inside. After the cutscene, interact with the green pedestal to the right of the locked gate.
A voice will tell you that the Fire Temple Gate is locked by 5 Padlocks. We must now find and open all 5 Locks, they are marked on the map across the 5 floors of the Fire Temple.
Fire Temple Padlock #1
Head south on 1F (1st floor as per map). When you reach a stream of lava, jump over the floating rocks.
Grab the water hydrant with Ultrahand and hold it over the next pool of lava. The water will create solid rock platforms in the lava. Keep spraying water on it until you created enough rocks to jump over the lava pool safely.
Using Ultrahand, place one of the carts on the tracks and hit the fan. While in the cart, press to shoot Yunobo at the green switch sign, it changes the tracks.
In the next area the cart will stop, exit it, then go down the left side. Go down the left path to see a big rock blocking the path. Use Yunobo’s Charge attack on it. You have to stand in just the right spot, uphill on the right behind a brown rock that looks like a “ramp”. You can use this stone as a ramp so that Yunobo flies further and doesn’t land in the lava.
Now that the obstacles is destroyed you can glide over the lava and find the first lock straight ahead. It looks like a big gong. You have to use Yunobo’s Charge attack on it, then you see a short scene of the first lock opening on the main gate.
Fire Temple Padlock #2
From the first Padlock, backtrack to where you arrived by cart. Put a cart on the next tracks and drive it.
There will be enemies along the way shooting at you, use Yunobo’s attack on them. After reaching the end of the tracks, turn the cart around and use it again. Use Yunobo’s Charge to hit the green switch sign straight ahead on the tracks. This redirects you to the right side of the tracks.
In the next area, hit the green bell on the left to lower the tracks. Then use a cart on those left tracks (the right tracks only lead to a chest with 10 arrows, can skip that).
At the end of the left tracks is another lava pool. Hit the green water hydrant on the right side to activate it, then use Ultrahand to hold it over the lava to create rocks. Hold it at the other end where the lava ends. The rock will float in your direction, jump on it and use Recall ability to make it flow back to the other side (with you on it).
Then you can jump off at the other side. Defeat the enemy (can use Yunobo’s attack on him) and activate the 2nd lock.
Fire Temple Padlock #3
From the second lock, turn around and use Yunobo’s Charge on the big rocks on the right side of the lava pool. This will break it and reveals another water hydrant. It will spray water from above and creates floating rocks on the lava, jump on them to get back across the lava.
Go back to the tracks where you came from. Turn the cart around. Now use your bow to shoot at arrow at the green bell on the other side, the one you hit earlier to lower the tracks. The bell will raise the tracks back up. Use the cart to reach the next floor.
On this floor you will see a Zonai enemy in the distance. Defeat it (can use Yunobo’s Charge on it). Behind this enemy are a bunch of rockets on the wall.
Grab a Rocket with Ultrahand, put it at the FRONT of a cart (not on the back). The rocket has to be facing forward. Also put a fan in the back. Put this cart on the half-broken tracks on the right, the ones going up and southwest on the map. Climb in the cart, hit the rocket, it will boost you over the half-broken track to the 4th Floor in the southwest.
Get out of the cart, defeat the enemies. On the right you will notice a big rock. Climb up onto this rock. From the rock, climb the wall above it. See the exact starting point below.
There are a few ledges up the wall where you can take a rest to recharge your stamina. Keep climbing all the way to the top.
On the top floor is the lock. Use Yunobo’s Charge on it, he may need a few seconds to spawn upstairs so just walk around until he appears.
Fire Temple Padlock #4
From the third Padlock, drop back down to where the carts are. Hit the green bell to lower the right tracks. Now a cart with a fan on it and drive down those rails, back to the main platform where you found the rockets earlier.
From there, hit the two bells in the north until the right-side rail is facing up to the 4th floor in the north. Ride a cart on those rails, it leads directly to the 4th lock.
The lock is on a rock behind lava. There are two options to make Yunobo hit it.
Option #1:
Stand slightly left of the lock, between a green bell and end of some tracks. Aim at the sharp brown rock in the lava that looks like a ramp. Use Yunobo’s Charge and the rock will make him fly up to the lock.
Option #2:
Glide over the lava and climb up the left side to the lock (the left side is easiest to climb). When you stand left of the gong, have Yunobo do his attack. Hitting the gong from the side still activates it. If Yunobo doesn’t spawn up here, you can jump in the lava, which costs 1 life but respawns you where you jumped off and should also spawn Yunobo there. Repeat this or try moving around a little until he spawns up there. It’s a bit tricky but it works.
Fire Temple Padlock #5
From the 4th Padlock, glide down to the northwest platform on the 3rd floor. Now there are two options to reach the last padlock.
Option #1:
Climb up the tower in the northwest of the 3rd floor until you can climb no further. You can rest on the ledges to recover stamina. Shortly after starting the climb you reach rocks sticking out the wall that block you from climbing further up. Just below these rocks is a long ledge that you can stand on. This ledge goes all around the tower.
Stand on this ledge, activate Transcend and walk along this ledge to the back of the tower (northwest side of it). Be careful not to fall off, the camera can be finicky here. Walk around the ledge until the Transcend ability turns green and lets you beam through the backwall of the tower. Use Transcend at the EXACT point shown in the image below.
This beams you up and to the inside of the tower. Glide down the open hole in the middle of the tower, at the bottom (1st floor) you will find the last Padlock inside the tower. One floor above the padlock is also a chest containing a Soldier II Reaper (20 damage) that’s useful for the boss fight ahead.
After opening the last lock, hit the orange crystal to the right of the locked gate to get back outside and use the green portal next to the main gate on the 1st floor.
Option #2:
Alternatively, you can destroy the red rocks on the 3rd floor northwest platform. Use a cart to get back to the central platform on 3rd floor. Hit the two green bells to turn the tracks SIDEWAYS and facing UP.
Then use a cart on the northwest rail, it will connect to the rail you just turned, leading you up one floor. Use the next rail to reach the top of the tower. Then drop down the right side to a big red rock blocking the entrance, use Yunobo’s ability to blow up the rock, then head inside.
Inside the tower fly down the hole to the bottom floor. There you find the last gong, ring it to release the last lock, hit the orange crystal to open the door outside. Then interact with the green portal next to the main gate on 1st floor.
Marbled Gohma Boss Fight
After going through the unlocked door on 1st floor, you will enter a round room with red rocks in the ceiling. Use Yunobo’s Charge on any wall, because the walls are rounded it will catapult him up to the ceiling and he breaks the rocks. This starts the boss fight.
First Phase: Hit the same leg of the boss twice in a row with Yunobo’s Charge. Then the boss gets stunned. Quickly climb on it and melee attack its eye. It’s highly recommended to Fuse some high-damage items from your inventory (like Soldier Construct II Horn) with your weapons to get 20+ damage weapons.
When the boss stands up and tries to shake you off, quickly jump off to avoid taking damage. Rinse and repeat until the first phase ends.
Second Phase: The boss will climb on the ceiling. Use Yunobo’s Charge on the walls to have him hit the middle of the boss. Then the boss falls down and is stunned. Quickly run to it and attack its eye again. Jump off when the boss stands up, to avoid taking damage. When the boss throws lots of red explosive rocks around you, climb one of those rocks and quickly glide away before they explode. When the boss is near low health he will walk around the ceiling faster, making him harder to hit. Try to line up Yunobo with the boss to have him hit the eye. Alternatively, you can also shoot arrows at the eye of the boss but it would consume a lot arrows to deal meaningful damage.
Return to Goron City
After the boss is defeated, pick up the Heart Container in front of you.
Talk to Yunobo. Afterward you are automatically brought back to Goron City. After the dialogue the quest ends.
This finishes Yunobo of Goron City Main Quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
