- Find Tulin on Tolonto Peak
- Get Back Tulin’s Bow
- Reach Hebra Peak
- Reach Rising Island Chain
- Investigate the Storm Cloud
- Open the 5 Locks on Wind Temple
- Colgera Boss Fight
- Return to Rito Village
Starting Location: Tulin of Rito Village
This quest starts automatically during Main Quest: Regional Phenomena, after going to the quest marker in the northwest of the map (Hebra region). After talking to Teba in Rito Village he will send you to talk to Tulin.
Find Harth at the Lodge
This objective is marked on the map. If you’ve previously unlocked the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower, you can fast travel there. If not, you must backtrack to Lucky Clover Gazette. When you reach a broken bridge just before the Gazette you must use your Paraglider to fly against the wooden bridge and climb it. From the Gazette simply follow the path leading northwest to the quest marker.
There you find a lodge, talk to Harth inside. He’s the purple/black colored character.
Find Tulin in the Mountain Cave
Harth tells you that Tulin and the others went to scavenge for food in a cave up the mountain.
Outside the lodge where you spoke to Harth are two ladders going up the hill. Climb them.
Recommendation: At this point it’s highly recommended to first unlock the Skyview Tower – Rospro Pass Skyview Tower which is slightly northwest on the mountain. This will reveal the map to make navigation easier. Also take a few minutes to do Side Quest: Crossing the Cold Pool, it’s at the end of the path straight ahead and rewards you with 50 Rupees.
To find the cave where Tulin is, go up the path after climbing the two ladders, after passing a campfire and some enemies take the next turn left to see a big bonfire at a cave entrance. It’s called “Hebra Summit Cave”.
Talk to the NPC inside the cave. You are told that Tulin and the others went further into the cave.
Follow the path on the right of the cave. Beware of the thorns, they hurt if you touch them! When you reach a big room with a gust of wind, use the paraglider to glide up and land in the opening at the top of the room.
There will be a creature walking on the ceiling, you can shoot it down with arrows or run past it. In the next room is an extinguished bonfire. Light it up, either by dropping flint and striking it with a sharp weapon, or hold to aim and arrow and to attach a Fire Fruit. Now take out a Hylian Pine Cone from your inventory and drop it into the fire. This will create a big gust of wind, use the paraglider over it to fly up!
Keep following the linear path forward until you come to another campfire with an NPC called Gesane. Talk to him. He reveals that Tulin left the cave and we must find him at the lone cedar tree on Tolonto Peak. This is just north from here on a mountaintop outside the cave.
Find Tulin on Tolonto Peak
Follow the path behind the NPC to leave the cave. Straight north from where you leave is a big mountain peak, called Tolonto Peak on the map. On top of this mountain you find Tulin, talk to him. You can use the gusts of wind near the mountaintop to fly up and climb the last section.
Get Back Tulin’s Bow
Tulin’s Bow was stolen and he wants it back. It was stolen by a monster flying in the distance. Tulin now joins your team. You must command him with “Let’s Go”, then again to cast a gust of wind straight ahead. Quickly use your paraglider while the wind is active to land on the big platform underneath the flying monster (it also has a quest marker on the map).
After landing on the platform, shoot the monster with arrows. A cutscene will trigger. Defeat the enemies that spawn afterward.
Harth and Gesane will arrive and talk to you. They want you and Tulin to investigate the big storm cloud and Sky Islands near Hebra Peak.
Reach Hebra Peak
After the dialogue, you get a new waypoint, above Hebra Peak. We’ll go through every jump and platforming section one by one, the images below show the platforming path with red arrows.
From the platform where you are, look east to see more yellow platforms sticking out the snow. Command Tulin to make a gust of wind with then glide in it. Climb up the next yellow stone structure.
On top you find a chest. From the chest fly to the next yellow stone structure, climb up this structure, then walk up the snowy hill.
From here you will see more yellow stone structures around the mountain. You must fly to these using Tulin’s wind gust to reach the mountaintop. Beware of the one enemy on a platform, you can shoot it with arrows.
After reaching the top walk uphill through the snow until you reach the highest point, Hebra Peak. There’s another NPC here.
Reach Rising Island Chain
Now a lengthy climbing section starts. We must make it all the way to the tippy top above the storm cloud.
From Hebra Peak, you can see more flying structures, as before use Tulin’s wind ability and your paraglider to fly to the next platform.
Fly towards the tower structure, land against the wall to keep climbing up to the top.
Now you reach a big tower-like structure with a shrine on it. It’s too tall to climb. The trick here is to land on the platform below it, then use Ascend ability to teleport up through the tower.
We’ve reached Rising Island Chain, now let’s continue to the very top above the Storm Cloud.
Investigate the Storm Cloud
Follow the linear path forward on Rising Island Chain, until you reach a flying boat. Jump on the roof of the flying boat, it will bounce you high up in the air, use the paraglider to fly to the shrine.
Activate Mayaumekis Shrine to create a permanent fast travel point here. See Mayaumekis Shrine Walkthrough.
Fly over to the next island group behind the shrine. Land on the far left, on the platform below the big pillar that has ice on it.
Use Ascend ability to beam yourself up the pillar. There are some icicles under it but you can use Ascend where there are no icicles.
On top there’s an enemy and a chest. When standing at the chest face the pillar. There are some icicles on the side of the pillar. Shoot them with an arrow to create an opening and fly over there.
Now use Ascend again to reach the top of the pillar.
Fly over to the Torii Gate.
From there follow the platforms until you reach one with ice on it. Simply jump a couple times on the ice to break it, this reveals a boat sail that bounces you up.
Fly to the next island, there’s another frozen ice part, break through it to reveal a sail and then fly to the platform on the left. (Optionally, can also destroy the icicles on the right to find a chest)
There will be another frozen platform you can break through to reveal a bouncy sail. From there fly to the next 2 flying ships, bounce off their sails to reach a temple-like structure. There will be a cooking pot that you can activate by striking a flint near it, if you need to make some meals.
Run past the enemies until you reach a platform with balloons on it. Using Ultrahand, place a Metal Piece flat on the ground, attach a Flame Emitter (dragon head) on it, attach these two parts underneath a Balloon. Stand on the metal, hit the flame emitter. It creates a flame that raises the balloon. When it reaches the top you can glide over to the next platform.
Use Ascend under the next big pillar to beam up.
Jump on the next sail, smash through the frozen platform in the distance to bounce up, then you will get a short dialogue with Tulin.
In front of you will be Kahatanaum Shrine. Complete this now, it doesn’t have any puzzles and only contains 1 chest and the shrine exit is straight ahead without obstacles. Completing this unlocks the shrine as a permanent fast travel point.
Note: Outside the Shrine the temperature gets colder. If you don’t have high enough Cold Resistance from armor, you are going to need meals to keep you warm (e.g. cook Spicy Peppers). If you don’t have enough cold-resisting meals in your inventory, fast travel away to prepare. You can find Spicy Peppers on Great Sky Island > Pit Cave. You can also find a cooking pot in Lookout Landing, in the emergency shelter down the hole in the middle of the town. Armor that reduces cold can be bought from the merchant in Rito Village. Cook enough meals that you can survive cold for 60 minutes. Afterward you can fast travel back to Kahatanaum Shrine.
From the Shrine, go upstairs and jump on the bouncy sail. Fly to the Torii Gate in the distance, there jump on the next bouncy sail, land on top of the moving boat and fly to the second Torii Gate. If you land on the platform below the gate you must use Ascend to beam up.
Now just bounce from one flying boat to the next and use the platforms in between. The boats all fly in circles around the storm cloud. Do this until you reach the clear sky above the storm cloud, where it’s sunny.
Lastly, drop down into the center of the storm cloud. A cutscene will trigger when you do.
Open the 5 Locks on Wind Temple
After the cutscene you will be on the Wind Temple (Ark of Wind). Interact with the green glowing gate in front of you. Another dialogue triggers. You now unlock a permanent fast travel point here and are told that you must now open all five locks to open the hatch on the deck. These locks are seen in the middle of the ship, to open them we must power on 5 turbines, they are all marked by yellow quest markers but require some puzzle solving. A general note – on the ship are many extra chests hidden inside ice blocks, they can be melted with fire (use torch or put wood + flint near it to make a campfire), but these are optional and mostly contain weapons.
Wind Temple Lock #1
On 1F (main deck), head north until you reach some locked doors. Use Ultrahand to attach an icicle (found on floor) to the lever of the right door. Then using Ultrahand push the lever to the left. The Icicle has to be placed straight, like a lever handle, so that it doesn’t block the lever when trying to push it.
Go through the door to find a wind turbine. Command Tulin to create a Wind Gust with to power it on, thus opening the first lock in the middle of the ship.
Wind Temple Lock #2
Use Paraglider in the big wind turbine in the middle of 1F main deck, land on top of the tallest tower in the north fo the ship.
Use Ultrahand to open the two metal gates on the roof’s floor.
Now you can drop inside the tower. Evade the red lasers as you fall (can make a manual save beforehand). As you reach the bottom open the Paraglider to quickly glide into the opening where the next wind turbine is. Again use a wind gust to power it.
To get back out use the glider again to fly up the tower, be careful of the red lasers. You can make another manual safe beforehand.
Wind Temple Lock #3
Now glide down the right side of the ship (B1 floor). On the back right side is a wall of icicles. Land there.
Destroy those icicles. Any melee attack will suffice
Go inside, on the right is a big spinner. Use Recall ability and stand on it to rotate it backwards.
In the next area shoot down one of the larger icicles from the ceiling with an arrow.
Use Ultrahand to connect the circle between the two cogs. The left cog is rotating, by connect the icicles it acts as an extension that makes the right cogs spin too. This opens the door.
Go through the door and cast wind again to open the third lock.
You can get back out by using Ultrahand on the lever near the cogs. Then fly from one ship to the next and bounce off their roofs to get back on the 1F main deck.
Wind Temple Lock #4
Fly down the left side of the ship, there you will see an opening in the side of the ship. Land there (B1 level).
Beware of an enemy here, it will shoot ranged attacks. Optionally, crouch & jump over the lasers on the left to find a chest with a Ruby, which can be sold for 100 Rupees at merchants.
Then take the path on the right until you reach icy walls. Drop down and fly into the secret opening below the left icy wall to reach the bottom floor B2. There defeat the enemy and use wind on the turbine to open the 4th lock.
Afterward, glide out the side of the ship and use the bouncy roofs to backtrack through the side of the ship to the icy wall.
Wind Temple Lock #5
Go back to the icy wall where you dropped down for the 4th lock. This time, use a gust of wind to fly across the gap, thus reaching the south of Floor B1. You will be in a room with a single enemy, there’s another Ruby you can loot here. Afterward use Ascend to teleport through the ceiling in this room.
At the top, you will find a cog and locked door. Use Ultrahand to attach a stone plate underneath the cog. Then keep using Ultrahand to turn the stone, which will turn the cog attached to it. Turn it until you see the door on the right opening up. Keep turning it just a little bit further.
Let go and cast Recall ability. Quickly climb up the ladder to the locked door. When the time rewinds the door will open again, giving you a short moment to climb through. Then climb up the ladder and use wind gust to power on the 5th and fine wind turbine. This removes the last lock. If the door doesn’t stay open long enough you must turn the wheel again with Ultrahand and hold it longer in the “sweet spot” where the doors stays open. The long you keep holding it open in real time, the longer the door will stay open when rewinding time with Recall. It may take a few tries to get the timing right.
Colgera Boss Fight
Now that all 5 locks have been released, return to the hatch in the middle of the ship.
Warning: interacting with the green gate on the main deck will trigger a boss fight! It’s highly recommended you make a manual save and also check that you have plenty of meals for health recovery and plenty of meals that give you cold resistance. The boss fight will last for about 10 minutes so you need to stay resistant to cold throughout. The boss can also take 3-4 lives in 1 hit so you will need to heal a lot, ideally with meals that don’t overwrite your cold resistance effect (any meals that restore only health but don’t add other effects). If you aren’t well equipped, now is the time to fast travel away and do some cooking. Press on the map to see the full world map and travel to Lookout Landing, there’s a cooking pot in the emergency shelter down the hole in the town square. Spicy Peppers can be found on Great Sky Island around Pit Cave. You won’t need any weapons for this boss fight, just lots of healing items.
Interact with the green gate on the Wind Ark when you’re ready. If you fast traveled away, you can come back here by pressing on the map to view the sky map and zooming in on the Wind Temple fast travel icon.
To Colgera Boss, you must wait for it to shoot spikes out its back which reveals purple ice. Hold to fly through this ice. Rinse and repeat until the boss is defeated.
Each time you destroy one piece of ice the boss will teleport and attack from below, keep flying straight in one direction to evade it (can kill you in 1 hit), or command Tulin to create a gust of wind to speed up in midair.
After destroying the first 3 pieces of ice the second phase begins. The boss will now also cast tornadoes. The best strategy is to fly below or above the tornados, then they don’t pose a threat. You can also try flying between them. If you get hit they will damage you by about 3 lives so quickly heal back. You want to stay at full health at all items to not get 1-hitted by a tornado. Again fall through the ice on the Colgera’s back. After you destroyed all 3 ice parts for the second time the boss will be finished.
Return to Rito Village
After some cutscenes, pick up the Heart Container to get a health upgrade and talk to Tulin.
You will automatically fast travel back to Rito Village. The quest finishes after this.
This finishes Tulin of Rito Village Main Quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
