Starting Location: Sidon of the Zora
This quest starts automatically in Zora’s Domain after finishing Main Quest: The Sludge-Covered Statue.
Meet Sidon at Ploymus Mountain
Sidon’s location will have a yellow questmarker on the map. He’s on top of Ploymus Mountain. The walls are too steep to climb head-on, we’ll take the long way around for an easier climb.
The map below outlines the recommended path in red. We’ll go through the key points individually below.
Exit Zora’s Domain through the bridge going east. Keep heading east until you reach a wall with stairs in it. Go up those stairs.
At the top of the stairs, keep walking east alongside the mountain wall. Go through Shatterback Point towards Tal Tal Peak. There the mountain walls aren’t so steep and can be climbed more easily, see the location below:
From Tal Tal Peak, head northwest towards the quest marker. You can mostly walk uphill, just the last section needs to be climbed. Go to the questmarker and talk to Sidon, standing in a pool with his arms stretched out. While you’re here, you can also complete Ihen-a Shrine to unlock it as a permanent fast travel point.
Sidon wants you to find Jiahto at Toto Lake.
Meet Jiahto at Toto Lake
Toto Lake is northwest of where you spoke to Sidon. You can glide there quite easily, there are no obstacles.
Once there, enter the little cave in the southwest of Toto Lake. Talk to the single character in there, that’s Jiahto.
Jiahto will give you Main Quest The Broken Slate. Complete this now. You will also need to do his second follow-up quest Clues to the Sky. Continue here afterward.
Main Quest: The Broken Slate & Restoring the Zora Armor & Clues to the Sky
Complete Main Quest: The Broken Slate & Main Quest: Restoring the Zora Armor & Main Quest: Clues to the Sky. Then continue here.
Return to Sidon
After doing the above main quests, return to Sidon at Mipha Court. Talk to him and Yona there. Doing so will start a small boss fight.
Sludge Like Boss Fight
A slime boss will spawn. Get close to Sidon and press to use his water ability. It will put a water bubble around you, then press to shoot it at the boss. Get close to the boss and wait until it reveals the weakpoint in the mouth. Attack the open mouth with a melee attack to stun the boss. Then keep attacking.
Rinse and repeat the strategy until the boss is defeated. You can fuse your melee weapons with some high-damage parts from your inventory to make this go faster.
Meet Sidon at East Reservoir Lake
Sidon will now your join party. You must head to East Reservoir Lake. It will have a golden questmarker on the map, south of Mipha Court. Talk to him on the stone pillar there.
He will create a vortex in the water, jump in to reach an underwater cave under East Reservoir Lake.
Explore the Underwater Cave
From where you spawn, use Ultrahand on the wooden chest on the left to get a sword. Use Fuse to combine it with any of the rocks on the floor to create a Rock Hammer.
Use this to attack the boulders in the right corner of the cave. They are clogging up the water, destroying those boulders raises the water level.
Now you can swim to the floor above to reach Ancient Zora Waterworks. Here you need to destroy boulders again to raise the water. On the left side, use Ultrahand to place a wooden plank in the water in front of the boulders. Climb on the plank to attack and destroy the boulders. Be careful not to hit the wooden plank itself or it will get destroyed.
Next, swim to the right side. There’s a green ring with rubble stuck inside it. The surface is slippery and can’t be climbed directly. You can use Ultrahand to stick together the wooden planks and lean them against the wall as a sort of “bridge”, then walk up over the wooden planks and destroy the boulders.
Now swim to the left side and climb the cliffs. There is a pipe entrance you can jump to. The walls are slippery so you can’t climb it (unless you have armor that allows you to climb slippery surfaces). But you can stand on the rocks and do a running jump to reach it.
Go through the pipe all the way to the end until you see a bunch of dirty water streams dripping from a grate above. Use Ascend to beam through the grate.
You will spawn in front of the next boulders, destroy them to release the water.
Climb up the ladder and use Ultrahand on the switch to open the gate.
Then swim to the altar in the middle of the area and activate it. This creates a waterfall to the sky island above, and triggers some dialogue.
Explore Wellspring Island
After the dialogue, equip the Zora Armor and jump in the waterfall and press to swim up. You get the Zora Armor from Main Quest: Restoring the Zora Armor. Do that first if you haven’t already. It’s mandatory to advance here.
On the flying island, follow the linear path forward and talk to Sidon.
Afterward, stand in front of the green glowing machines that make water bubbles. Let these bubbles carry you up to the next floor.
Use the next bubble maker to float up. When the bubble is about to pop, glide over to the next bubble maker, then to the next floor.
Defeat the two Level III Zonai (or run past them), then head further up through the sludge-filled path. Glide to the next pillar, land on the wall and climb up.
On the left side you will see a green-glowing shrine. Glide to the brown waterfalls coming from the serpent mouths, make sure you have Zora Armor equipped to swim up the water. Complete Igoshon Shrine while you’re here, this also unlocks a permanent fast travel point.
After the shrine you will see many bird-machines and an orange crystals next to a ramp. Use Ultrahand to place a bird on the ramp, in front of the stone block. Stand on the bird, shoot an arrow at the orange crystal. After a few seconds the stone block will push the bird forward and launch it in the air. Glide from the bird to the next island.
Swim up the next waterfall, then glide from one waterfall to the next until you reach the next big island with enemies on it.
Go up the right side of the ruins.
Here you will see a bubble maker shooting bubbles in your direction. Step inside a bubble and use Recall ability to make it go back in the direction it came from, with you inside it. This moves you across the gap.
In this area is a bubble maker shooting bubbles to the side, but they are hitting the wall. Use Ultrahand to lean one of the stone slates against the wall to create a “ramp” that the bubbles can bounce off. Then stand on your newly created ramp, wait for a bubble, it will carry you up, then glide to the next island.
Here you find a big ramp, some carts and fans. Attach one fan to a cart, place it in front of the ramp. Climb on, hit the fans, jump off the cart in midair and glide over to the next island where Sidon awaits.
Talk to Sidon. He rejoins your party now. Then defeat the next enemy. He hits pretty hard but you can use Sidon’s ability for help. Jump into the next sludge waterfall to reach the Water Temple.
Water Temple
After arriving at the Water Temple, go forward and talk to Sidon. Then interact with the green portal in front of you.
The goal here is to find and unlock 4 Faucets to turn on the water.
Water Temple Faucet #1
First, climb up the ruins on the left side.
There will be 3 enemies and they hit very hard. Defeating them isn’t absolutely mandatory but makes the next steps easier. You must use Sidon’s water ability on the sludge-covered bubble maker in the back left corner. Have him cast a bubble around you, then jump up in the air and strike the sludge on the bubble maker to wash it away.
Now grab the round ball found here in the same area in the water between the enemies.
Hold it in front of the bubble maker. When a bubble comes, press to attach it. Now the ball will float inside the bubble to the next floor. You must also jump in a bubble and have it carry you up to the next floor.
Place the ball in the round pedestal in the pool. The ball will float in the water which is normal and fine for now.
Next, grab one of the floating green rocks in the area with Ultrahand. These are actually battery-powered Zonai devices, a type of special rock that stays in place as long as battery lasts. Use Ultrahand to attach one of them on top of the sluice on the right. Then use Ultrahand to raise the sluice. Make sure the green Zonai stone is powered on. You must hit it once if it’s not already activated. You know it’s on when it glows green and a battery icon appears onscreen. The floating rock will hold the sluice fully raised, so that it doesn’t go back down. This drains the water from the pool and makes the ball fall into the round pedestal. This in turn opens a gate at the end of the pool where a golden questmarker is.
Quickly run there and use Sidon’s water ability on the wheel. This turns on the first faucet.
Water Temple Faucet #2
For the second Faucet, glide down the west side of the big platform in the center to get to the bottom floor (B1).
There is a wall of fire. Activate Sidon’s ability to cast a protective bubble around you, then quickly walk through the fire.
In this room you must glide over to a little orb at the end.
Pick up the orb with Ultrahand, use to push it over the spikes on the floor as far as possible. Then do a running jump and glide over the spikes. Even though it looks like too big of a gap, since this area has low gravity you can make this long jump easily.
Then pick up the orb again using Ultrahand and attach it to one of the floating rocks.
Climb up the wall back to the start of the room. Again, use Ultrahand to carry the rock with attached orb to the wall at the entrance, next to the fire.
Place the rock with attached orb in the wall. The orb has to face the wall so that it fits into the round slot. Keep the flying rock attached, it will hold the orb in place, but only as long as the battery lasts. If the battery runs out you need to let it recharge and hit the rock again to activate its anti-gravity effect, which holds it in place (battery icon appears onscreen and rock glows green). This will open the door to the water wheel directly across from the orb’s wall slot.
Grab another flying rock with Ultrahand and place it at the entrance inside the fire stream, at the top where the fire comes out
This blocks the fire so you can safely go back out to Sidon. Press on him to activate his ability, run back inside and press to shoot the water at the wheel. This will activate the second faucet.
Water Temple Faucet #3
From the main platform in the middle, climb the wall to the right of the faucets where the big sludge is dripping down.
From there you can glide to the northeast island.
There is a bubble maker shooting bubbles from above. Wait for the bubble to arrive, then use Recall on it and quickly jump in the bubble. This makes the bubble float up with you inside it. Jump out at the top and glide to the upper platform.
On the right side is a water wheel. Below it are 2 stone slates. Use Ultrahand to attach them to the water wheel, at opposite ends.
One slate at the top, one at the bottom. Use Ultrahand to spin the attached stone slate into the waterfall, then let go. It will make the water wheel rotate. It must keep turning on its own, if it doesn’t you must fine-tune where you place the stone slates, each one must catch water from the waterfall to keep pushing the water wheel.
You will see a yellow line lighting up from the water wheel to the left side. Follow this yellow line. At one point there’s a gap in the wall. Use Ultrahand to grab a water bubble and place it in the gap. It will conduct the electricity to the door.
Then the door opens and you can shoot Sidon’s water ability at the wheel there to open the third faucet. Be quick before the water bubble bursts or else you must place another bubble in the gap.
Water Temple Faucet #4
From the same platform where you activated the third faucet you can glide over to the next platform in the south, where the last golden questmarker is.
Defeat the enemies here. You will notice a spinning tower in the middle of the area. It has one opening but it’s covered by sludge. The solution is to remove the sludge by popping a water bubble near it. This reveals an orange crystal in the tower that you can shoot with an arrow. Here’s how you do it:
In the southeast corner is a bubble maker machine. Stand on top of it. Use Ultrahand to grab freshly formed water bubbles as they come out the machine. Press + to push the bubble as close as possible to the spinning tower. Keep putting bubbles all around the tower top and wait for them to pop until one washes away the sludge.
You can check before & after by activating Recall ability. It freezes time so you can get a good view of the inside of the tower. If there’s sludge you didn’t put the bubbles close enough, or they popped when the tower was spinning away. If you see a shiny orange crystal, it worked and you can proceed to the next step.
Now stand on top of the middle platform where the questmarker is. From here you can shoot an arrow at the orange crystal in the spinning tower. It requires perfect timing. The two archer enemies in this area dropped bows you can use. If you run out of arrows you can reload the last autosave to retry. As soon as you hit the orange crystal a short cutscene plays and the door to the last water wheel opens.
Hit it with Sidon’s ability to turn on the final faucet.
Lastly, interact with the green portal on the main platform in the middle of the Water Temple to start the boss fight.
Mucktorok Boss Fight
This boss transforms into a shark. Have Sidon cast a water bubble around you. Follow the shark when it digs through the ground. As soon as it comes up, shoot the water bubble at him, this stuns him. Then immediately melee attack him. When he runs away keep stabbing him from behind.
Repeat this strategy throughout the fight.
His two main attacks are shards spreading on the floor and shooting a laser. As long as you have one of Sidon’s bubbles around you it will fully protect you from one hit. If he casts the shards, run away quickly, the shards only reach don’t reach very far and disappear after, so if you get far enough away they can’t reach you. When he does the laser, jump over it and hold on to the glider, then quickly run up to the boss and hit him with water. As long as you always keep a water bubble around you, you’re safe.
In the 2nd phase he will cast mud all over the floor, just walk where the floor is clean. When he’s in his little form he will jump around in the mud, cast Sidon’s water attack to remove the mud. Other than that just keep hitting him with water when he’s in shark form to stun him and get some damage in before he hops away.
Return to Zora’s Domain
After the fight, pick up the heart container and talk to Sidon. You will automatically return to Zora’s Domain afterward.
This finishes Sidon of the Zora Main Quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
