Autobuild is a secret ability in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (TotK). This guide explains how to unlock it and what it does. It is unlocked from an optional Main Questline that starts by talking to Robbie and Josha in Lookout Landing.
How to Unlock Autobuild in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Autobuild is simply a main story unlock. See the linked walkthroughs below for each quest.
- Finish Main Quest: Camera Work in the Depths.
- Finish Main Quest: A Mystery in the Depths. Autobuild is automatically unlocked as part of this quest.
That’s all there is to it. Just finish those two main quests and you will get Autobuild.
What does Autobuild do in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?
As the name suggests, Autobuild allows you to automatically build objects.
If you obtain the schematics, you can build premade objects out of thin air in exchange for Zonaite. Furthermore, it remembers any objects you have built yourself. You can save them as favorites to keep templates. Then next time you won’t have to manually put together those objects and can use the ability to automatically put together the desired object.
The schematics are obtained from various characters and from quests/adventures. Zonaite is mined from ore deposits, most frequently found in the Depths but also in caves and wells. Any object you have built yourself can be created out of thin air for Zonaite too, without the need for schematics! The more parts an object uses the more Zonaite it will cost to create it.
Another special thing about this ability is that it remembers any non-Zonai devices you used in crafting previously. For example, you can use wooden logs or wooden boards that you can’t carry as encapsulated Zonai devices. This opens up whole new possibilities for crafting in places where there’s no access to wood and other items.
