Starting Location: Crisis at Hyrule Castle
This quest starts after Main Quest To the Kingdom of Hyrule, in Central Hyrule, Lookout Landing.
Find Captain Hoz
Leave Lookout Landing and head north towards the golden waypoint on the map, through Hyrule Castle Town Ruins and Central Square.
You will come past Kyononis Shrine in the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins. It’s highly recommended to do this now, it teaches you the basics of combat which is very useful. Each Shrine also rewards you with a Light of Blessing (trade 4 of them for a health upgrade at Angel Statues), and creates a permanent fast travel point. Very useful for getting around the map quicker. Refer to Kyonosis Shrine Walkthrough.
Past the Shrine you reach a closed gate, drop down the railing on the left of the gate to land on the rocks, allowing you to bypass the gate.
Keep going up the road to the waypoint. At the waypoint marker, talk to the guard called Sharce. He says he can’t let you pass and you must get permission from the captain who is further up the road.
Keep going up the road to the north all the way to the top until you reach a building called “First Gatehouse”. Instead of going inside, you must go around the left of this building (outside). Behind First Gatehouse on the left you can go up the stairs.
Then climb up the side of the building to find Captain Hoz on top. Talk to him!
Return to Purah in Lookout Landing
Hoz is relieved to see you and spots Princess Zelda in the distance. A good sign. He wants you to hurry back to Lookout Landing and report this to Purah. Simply head back to where the quest started, same path you took to get here.
Sleep at Emergency Shelter
Purah wants to add map data to your Purah Pad. In order to do so, she must first repair the Skyview Tower. She tells you it will take some time and you should take a nap in the emergency shelter while she works on it.
Talk to the guard in the middle of Lookout Landing. He opens up the emergency shelter, a hole opens up in the middle of the town.
Climb down the ladder into the shelter and interact with a bed on the side. Sleep until morning.
Note that you can also find an angel statue here to trade 4 Lights of Blessing (from Shrines) for increased health later. Sleeping will also restore your health so it’s a good way to heal when you don’t want to spend health items.
Activate Skyview Tower
After Link awakes, climb back up the ladder and talk to Purah in the big tower where the quest marker is. This activates all Skyview Towers. Interact with the orange terminal inside the tower. This activates the tower as a permanent fast travel point. Purah now gives you the Paraglider. Step on the blue elevator inside the tower.
This catapults you into the sky and will reveal the full surface map & sky map for this region. As you fall press to open the Paraglider to land safely back in Lookout Landing. From now on you can survive any fall on land with the Paraglider and no longer must land in water! Going forward you can activate the Skyview Tower in each region to unfog that region’s map and unlock it as a fast travel point.
But for now, head back to Purah. She will add 4 golden quest markers to the map which starts Main Quest: Regional Phenomena. You must do this quest to advance the story. But before doing so, it’s highly recommended you do the optional Main Quest: Camera Work in the Depths from talking to Robbie in Lookout Landing. It will introduce you to a new map and unlocks the Camera and Hyrule Compendium, it’s a quick quest and good to get it out of the way now.
Main Quest: Camera Work in the Depths
Take a quick detour and talk to Robbie at the north gate of Lookout Landing. He will give you an unmarked Main Quest. Refer to Main Quest: Camera Work in the Depths. Then continue here.
Main Quest: Regional Phenomena
To advance the story, you must first do Main Quest: Regional Phenoma. After finishing it continue here.
Go to Hyrule Castle
After finishing the whole Regional Phenoma questline, Purah will send you to Hyrule Castle. It will be marked on the map north of Lookout Landing.
Take the same path you took earlier in the story, up path to the first Gatehouse. Keep following the path behind the Gatehouse until the end where the path is ripped apart and you see a station with building materials (see exact map location below).
At this point we need to take out some Zonai devices from the inventory and combine them to fly up the Hyrule Castle. Make a manual save here, in case something goes wrong you can reload to get back your Zonai Devices.
Combine a small wooden board from the building station with 1 Flame Emitter (middle of board) + 1 Balloon (on top of flame emitter) + 1 Battery (on side of board, NOT under flame emitter or else it will rip apart).
If you don’t have these devices, here are Dispensers where you can get them by trading any Zonai parts, e.g. Zonai Charges or Construct Horns.
Flame Emitter:
Balloon:
Battery:
When combined you get a device that looks like this:
Stand on the board and hit the emitter/battery, the flame will fill the balloon and it flies up with you on the board. The battery will keep powering the flame. 1 Battery is enough to reach the top. When you’re at the top jump off and glide over to the castle.
After you land, the first thing to do is activate the Serutabomac Shrine to create a permanent fast travel point.
Now head for the quest marker on floor B1 of the island. There’s a tower you need to glide to. Drop down inside the tower to find Princess Zelda.
Turns out it’s a trap, she will disappear and you get attacked by the Monster Forces miniboss. Use the abilities of all 4 of the Sages (activate their vows in key items menu). Especially Riju’s lightning strike will deal a lot of damage to crowds, and Yunobo’s charge also deals good damage. This way you can keep your distance and just spam the sage abilities. The enemies drop a lot of materials and the Royal Guard’s Shield with 70 Defense.
Now a new quest marker appears on floor B3. To get there, enter the cave directly underneath Serutabomac Shrine.
This leads to the library where you find Zelda again. When you go near her another Monster Forces boss fight starts. Use the same strategy as before. You can lean back and let the sages do all the work.
Go back upstairs, the same way you came, Zelda stands on the stairs and will transform into another Monster Forces boss. This one consists of a bunch of Gibdos, quickly defeated with Riju’s lightning.
Find Zelda again at the quest marker on B1. You need to climb up a tower, then drop down inside the tower. 3 Fire Breathing monsters will spawn, defeat them. Hang back and let the sages deal damage.
In the corridor after these enemies is a Royal Guard Claymore weapon that does 32 base damage, pick it up, it’s very strong when combined with high-damage materials.
The next quest marker is on B3. From B2 you can glide down the cliffside on the west until you see the entrance in the cliffs. Land there and head inside.
Zelda is straight ahead, this time you fight a single big enemy, as usual let the sages do all the work. After defeating the enemy, drop down on the left to find a Royal Guard Bow that does 50 Damage.
The next marker is also on B3. Climb back up to B2 the same way you came. On B2 you can drop down the south cliffs and glide to B3, land in the opening in the side of the cliff wall.
Zelda spawns 3 yellow flowers. Hit their weak spot in the mouth, then they are stunned and can be attacked.
The next marker is on 1F. You can teleport to the Serutabomac Shrine and climb up the walls south of it where there’s no red gloom. Then follow the road up to the castle and avoid the red gloom (climb towers/walls where there’s no gloom). Enter the castle through the main entrance, this triggers a cutscene.
Phantom Ganon Boss Fight
You will be fighting 5 red phantoms at the same time. They have a lot of health and it’s the hardest fight yet. The easiest method is to let the sages distract them (activate their vows from key items menu), then attack the enemies from behind while they fight the sages. When the enemies target you run away and attack another one, rinse and repeat. Also use the sage’s abilities, especially Riju’s Lightning deals good damage when hitting multiple phantoms with 1 arrow. When a phantom rushes towards you, run away, let it miss its attack, then land 1 counter-attack and run away again.
Also go into it with plenty of high-health cooked meals and fuse some of the weapons you found throughout Hyrule Castle, with the highest damage items you have. This will result in high-damage weapons, when the phantoms are distracted attacking the sages you can land quick hits from behind for decent damage. The phantoms themselves also drop some powerful weapons such as katanas that can deal 70+ damage when fused with other good materials.
The phantoms can reduce your maximum health with their gloom. So bring meals that heal gloom, e.g. by putting Sundelions (flowers) as an ingredient. Otherwise, if your max health declines to only 5 hearts the phantoms can defeat you in 1 hit.
After getting the phantoms to half health, they will respawn with new weapons and will start to spread gloom on the ground. When a phantom spreads gloom, shoot it with arrows, then it gets stunned and you can quickly rush in to defeat it with melee attacks. Rinse and repeat to take them out one by one. If your weapon breaks, fuse the weapons dropped by the phantoms with new materials to get 70+ damage weapons. These will kill stunned phantoms in one combo.
When the boss is defeated, a cutscene will trigger. Then pick up the Heart Container in front of you. Return to Purah in Lookout Landing afterward.
Return to Purah in Lookout Landing
Talk to Purah in Lookout Landing again. This will trigger Main Quest: Find the Fifth Sage. Do this now. If you haven’t already, you can also do Main Quest: A Mystery in the Depths from Robbie and Josha in Lookout Landing to unlock the Autobuild Ability.
Main Quest: Find the Fifth Sage
Follow Find the Fifth Sage Walkthrough. This is actually another multiple-quest spanning quest with no content of its own. You will be tasked with finding the Fifth Sage. To do this finish Main Quests Secret of the Ring Ruins & Guidance from Ages Past. Afterward, return to Purah and it will simultaneously complete Find the Fifth Sage and Crisis at Hyrule Castle.
This finishes Crisis at Hyrule Castle Main Quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Next Quest. Trail of the Master Sword
