The Battle of Hulaoguan Pass is 7th main story mission in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. This walkthrough will guide you through all areas of the The Battle of Hulaoguan Pass Main Quest.
Recommended Level: 37
Region: Tyranny
Requirement: having completed Fall of the Corrupted Eunuch
Reward: Rank 4 Leather x3, Dong Zhuo Officer Helmet x1, Dong Zhuo Officer Armor x1, Heavy Cavalry Spear x1, Strung Bow, Liu Bei reinforcement, Mightiest of Men.
Battle Flag 1
From Battle Flag 1, man the nearby ballista. Strung Bow requires you to kill 5 enemies using a ballista. Try to aim at a soldier’s head if possible to ensure a one-hit kill. Because the ballista cannot be moved freely, reload the area using the Battle Flag and aim at the same enemy. Rinse and repeat until you have the trophy.
Once you’ve unlocked the trophy, continue down into the encampment and defeat the remaining soldiers, then enter the leftmost tent for Marking Flag 1.
Continue along the scripted path until you reach another area with two soldiers guarding a chest below a Marking Flag. Ignore these as the chest doesn’t contain anything of value and continue on to find a massive axe-wielding soldier. Try to reduce his health with a stealth strike and then finish him off. After defeating him, continue down the main path and you’ll reach Battle Flag 2.
Battle Flag 2
Return to where you defeated the axe-wielding soldier and continue up the hill on the side to reach Marking Flag 2.
Now make your way back downhill and climb up the ledge on the right to reach the entrance to another encampment.
Opposite the entrance is a ledge leading you to Marking Flag 3, behind a spiked barricade.
Now enter the encampment and enter the first tent on your left to find Sun Jian Soldier’s Letter tablet.
Inside the encampment is a corrupted Battle Flag. To dispel the corruption, you need to defeat the axe-wielding soldier. When done, raise Battle Flag 3.
Battle Flag 3
Facing the Battle Flag and the entrance to the encampment, look to your right and you should see a chest on a wooden platform right outside the encampment. Destroy the barricade with the ballista, then climb up here and open it to obtain Dragon Vein Essence.
From the chest, drop down and continue along the side path and reach the battlefield.
Immediately after reaching it, check the left side for a Changgui guarding Marking Flag 4.
After raising the flag, continue along the battlefield, flanking the chasm. Defeat the spearman, drop down, continue back up and you should be back at Battle Flag 2. Now there’s quite a few areas we need to explore. First, drop down the way you came from and grab the items in the chasm, including and especially the Golden Cicada Shell which is basically below the area the Changgui was, at the far back.
Return to and face the cliff where the Changgui and Marking Flag 4 are and turn around to find a tower you can climb. When you get to the hole, look down and perform an aerial attack on the Demonized Officer below.
Clear the area of all other demons, then leave it. Now make your way around the barricade and fire to find another tower.
Climbing it will get you to a Battle Flag, whose corruption is controlled by a sword-wielding Demonized Officer.
Battle Flag 4
From Battle Flag 4, do NOT open the door, but go around the building and defeat the two demons on the wooden pillars, then the Zhuyan, which you can sneak up on quite easily.
Now return to Battle Flag 2 and cross the bridge.
Make your way to the left and drop down into the left gorge with the fire to find a ledge you can climb leading you to Marking Flag 5.
Return to the battlefield and defeat the Demonized Officer standing in front of the gate.
Then, access the area and clear it up, trying to lure enemies away from the fire bombs being thrown. In the right side area, past a ballista, is a Mystic Crane. When you’ve cleared the area, climb up the tower in the middle and operate the crane to lower a bridge.
Cross it and then drop down to reach Marking Flag 6.
From here, man the ballista and shoot the enemy you can find walking back and forth in the middle of the battlefield. This will lure him to you, allowing you to face him alone without the disturbance of other demons.
When beaten, you’ll uncorrupt the Battle Flag in front of the big gate in the middle of the battlefield. Before getting to it, climb up the tower opposite the bridge that leads you back to Battle Flag 2. This will give you access to Marking Flag 7.
Now make your way to Battle Flag 5, making sure you pick up Coalition General’s Diary tablet from a body opposite Battle Flag 5.
Battle Flag 5
Now return to where you raised Marking Flag 5. Left of the tower that led you to it is another climbable tower that will lead you to one axe-wielding soldier and a Zhuyan behind him.
In the building opposite the Zhuyan you can find a Shitieshou. Now climb the ladder to reach Battle Flag 6, the final one for this mission.
Battle Flag 6
Drop back down and open the door behind the Shitieshou. Defeat the soldiers, including the one manning the ballista, then continue on and open the gate halfway through the balcony. Enter the room, defeat the soldiers and loot the chests.
You now have everything and can return to Battle Flag 5 to take on the boss.
Lu Bu Boss Fight
Lu Bu is a bulky soldier riding a horse and is by far the hardest boss in the game so far. For this boss fight, I highly recommend setting the following Wizardry Spells: Absorb Vitality, Spirit Fervor, and Burning Flamewave. It would be better to have all of these 3 Spells available for unlock and the Vigor level required to use them, but if you can’t, at least prioritize Burning Flamewave if possible. Burning Flamewave especially is what makes this very tough fight a lot more tolerable. Additionally, set Qinglong as your Divine Beast. Using Qinglong’s + ability allows you to cast a pool of health regeneration that could be helpful while deflecting his attacks, especially his ranged ones. And finally, it’s highly encouraged to have all 6 possible Dragon’s Pots available for use. If you’ve followed this walkthrough up to this point, you should have them all.
- Phase 1: during phase 1, do NOT try striking him. During this phase, you must play defensively. He’s way too fast and you’d just be a punching bag. Your focus is to just knock him off his horse and the only way to do it is to deplete his Spirit bar. So, for this first half of the fight, focus on deflecting his Critical Blow, Normal attacks and arrows. The first Critical Blow attack is a horse stomp and the second one is a charge. When you’ve successfully deflected a Critical Blow attack, land only 1 heavy attack to reduce his Spirit bar even further. When he gets away from you and abruptly brakes, it means he’s about to shoot arrows at you. Hold to deflect them. Incidentally, the fight will always start with a volley of arrows.
- Phase 2: first thing you must know is that while he’s not riding his horse anymore, the horse will still rampage around the arena and it can hurt you if you stand in its way. The very first thing he’s going to do is his Critical Blow stomping attack. This is somewhat easy to deflect. Do NOT counterattack after deflecting it. He’s way too fast and if you do, he is going to chain several attacks that need to be deflected with perfect timing. Now you can use two strategies, depending on how quickly your Spirit gauge goes back to normal: the first strategy involves deflecting and using Burning Flamewave (harder), the second strategy involves holding to parry all of his attacks and keeping your distance to restore your Spirit gauge back to normal (easier). Regardless of the strategy you use, your job is to deflect all Critical Blow attacks as this is the only feasible fay to deal consistent damage. Remember that he can chain Critical Blow attacks, so get ready to deflect a second or even a third one if that’s the case. This usually happens after you’ve dismounted him from his horse a second time.
After a while, he’ll whistle and mount Red Hare again. Repeat the same strategy as highlighted in Phase 1, but this time get ready to deflect his arrows twice in a row.
This finishes The Battle of Hulaoguan Pass main mission in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
