In The Last of Us 2 (TLOU2) you can unlock 50 Player Upgrades (Skills) across 10 Skill Trees. Each Skill Set contains exactly 5 skills. In order to unlock the skill trees you must first find the Training Manuals, then purchase new skills using Supplements. Training Manuals are magazines you can find at a few fixed locations. There are 8 of those in total, each unlocking a new Skill Tree (2 Skill Trees are automatically unlocked over the course of the story and don’t need Manuals). The Supplements are the “Skill Points” you use to unlock individual abilities. They look like pills you find everywhere in the game, but most frequently in bathrooms and restrooms.
How many Supplements do you need to unlock all Player Upgrade Skills? 1900 Supplements is the total amount you will need! But it’s not possible to fully upgrade everything in a single playthrough. At most you can get to about 80% upgrade completion if you locate every single Supplement. It’s mandatory to play through New Game+ again to finish the remaining upgrades, at least until the second half of the game. Learning all Player Upgrades also unlocks the trophy Survival Expert . You must have all Upgrades at the same time for the trophy to pop and can’t use Chapter Select to get missing ones.
The list below shows all skills with the required amount of Supplements in brackets.

The Abster says
These skill trees are spread across two playable characters.
RICHARD says
I have a question as I’m just doing this now, if when I’ve maxed out Ellie for weapons and supplements will all the extra supplements and weapon parts carry over to Abby so I can quickly upgrade her?
PowerPyx says
They don’t carry over, unfortunately.
Mike says
Wait so I’ll start with 0 parts and 0 supplements with abbey?
James Farrell says
Do supplements carry over to new game plus? For example if I have upgraded anything in the base game will the supplements follow me into new game plus.
James Farrell says
Sorry I mean if I haven’t upgraded
PowerPyx says
Yes, they carry over 🙂
JAMES WHITE says
Are there less supplements and weapon parts on harder difficulties?
Kendra says
yes but you can customize this under the difficulty settings to make more items spawn
