In The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, you must let everyone die for the “Not a sole survivor” trophy and achievement. This is the worst / bad ending in the game where no-one survived. This walkthrough will guide you through the necessary steps to achieve the worst ending in Man of Medan.
The following points are the easiest way to have everyone killed:
- Complete the steps for trophy “The name of this vessel” – so that the military shoots you in order to protect the secrets of the Ourang Medan
- Chapter: Danny (as Fliss): Pick up Secret #41: Medan Hat – it’s right after a cutscene where Danny (pirate guy who’s escorting Fliss), sees what looks like a sitting man. But it turns out it was only a bunch of empty sacks with a hat on them. Danny will knock off the hat during the cutscene. Afterward, Fliss can investigate that same hat.
- Chapter: Distress Signal (as Alex): Pick up Secret #42: Ship’s Logbook – it’s found just after leaving the weather deck to climb upstairs. Then you must open a door by quickly pressing and you’ll enter the captain’s cabin. There on a table is the logbook you need. This is just BEFORE the distress signal radio (just a few rooms before it).
- Chapter: Distress Signal (as Alex): Activate the radio now. Pick dialogue “INSTRUCTIVE” to give your coordinates. Afterward, send Julia and Brad (or whoever else is available) down the hole. Someone has to stay back by the radio, ideally Alex.
- Chapter: Depths (as Brad / Julia or whoever went down the hole): Turn the power back on. There’s a power switch just after passing through an engine room, but before finding the rebreather. If you found the rebreather you went too far and must redo this via chapter select after finishing the story. After the power turns back on, Alex will reveal the ship’s name “Ourang Medan”.
- Let the Distributor Cap be destroyed – so you can’t leave and have to wait for the military to arrive
- During the final encounter with Olson, make sure you mess up the QTEs to let the distributor cap be destroyed, so that you cannot escape by boat
- Pick up all weapons – allows you to get some characters killed early. With the weapons you can kill your friends during the story (seen as demons because the Manchurian Gold chemical that leaked on the ship makes you see them as scary demons). If you want to learn more about which character is represented by which demon and why, check out the Man of Medan Story & Endings Explained guide.
- Alex can find a knife in the kitchen of chapter “Caskets”
- Fliss can find in knife in the cargo hold of chapter “Danny”
- Brad can find a wrench/spanner in the upper cargo hold of chapter “Finding Friends” (or whatever alternative chapter he gets will always lead there)
If you follow these steps, the military will always arrive and kill the survivors in the end. They do this because you’ve seen too much of their secret chemical weapons project “Manchurian Gold” that makes people see each other as demons, and consequently go on a killing spree or die from heart attacks. The ship you’re on is the Ourang Medan, which is the military cargo ship carrying this chemical weapon, and it leaked onto the ship (seen in cutscene during prologue), which caused people to “go mad” and murder each other. Some collectibles in the game reveal that the military intended to use Manchurian Gold to precisely target enemy infantry trenches and bunk houses to have them kill each other. Because you told them the name of the ship you’re on, they will know you stumbled upon their long-lost warfare project and to protect the secrets, all survivors will be killed. It all comes down to the radio call with the military being a big trap.
All Character Deaths
- Conrad Deaths
- Chapter: Intrusion – tries to escape on speedboat, messes up the 4th button press and consequently gets shot by Olson with pistol
- Chapter: Glamor Girl (*only triggers if Fliss saw Brad as a demon in “Ritual” and ran away from him) – While Conrad is being chased by the Nurse (who is Fliss), Conrad can mess up QTEs and fall down and die. At the end of the chase he can also pick the heart choice to jump down the tower.
- Chapter: The End (final cutscene) – If you found “Secret #41: Medan Hat” in “Chapter: Danny” & “Secret #42: Ship’s Logbook” in “Chapter: Distress Signal”, then gave your coordinates over the radio in “Distress Signal”, and finally turned the power back on in chapter “Depths”, it will result in your giving the military the name of the ship over the radio (see bearing “Military Bandwith” to keep track of the progress). This makes the military shoot the survivors when they arrive on the helicopter at the end of the game. The Distributor Cap must be destroyed for this also! The reason for this is because the survivors know too much about the secret Manchurian Gold chemical weapon project, and the military will shoot all survivors to keep the secrets of the Ourang Medan safe.
- Julia Deaths
- Chapter: Dive / Uninvited Guests – Julia finishes the dive without decompressing and then drinks alcohol during the ghost story (always pick heart choice). This makes her die from the bends during the final cutscene of the game.
- Chapter: Intrusion – Alex puts scissors to one of the pirate’s throats, Conrad chooses to fight and picks up Julia’s knife (if she didn’t break it on door during dive, by messing up the QTE there), to attack the pirates. Alex and Conrad remain aggressive with the pirates, even after they take Conrad’s weapon. Olson (pirate leader) aims gun at Julia, shoots her by accident in the head.
- Chapter: Junior – Julia gets shot by Junior while trying to argue with him (whoever you send down the hole after the radio call can die here).
- Fliss Deaths
- Chapter: Ritual – Fliss doesn’t go backstage and lets the timer run out, then gets killed by the hooded demon (who is really Brad). To do this, Brad isn’t allowed to find the Gas Mask during Chapter “Finding Friends” but must pick up the wrench at the end of “Finding Friends”. Then Brad will be under the effect of the Manchurian Gold chemical and kill Fliss with the wrench, if Fliss messes up the QTE against the “demon”.
- Chapter: Pressure (*only available if Fliss and Brad recognized each other in Chapter “Ritual”, meaning Fliss went backstage to get fresh air and Brad stayed unseen on the Duke of Milan boat and found the gas mask in Chapter “Finding Friends”) – if Fliss goes down the hole instead of Brad, she can drown if she tells Brad to smash the lock instead of the hinge.
- Chapter: Glamour Girl (*only available if Conrad did not escape on Speedboat during Chapter “Intrusion”) – Conrad must still be in the game. During Chapter “Caskets” when Conrad, Julia, Alex went through the kitchen Alex must’ve found the kitchen knife and given it to Conrad. Then in Chapter “Glamour Girl” when Conrad gets chased by the nurse (who in reality is Fliss), Conrad can use the knife against the Nurse (Fliss) on top of the water tower to defend himself. This will kill Fliss (seen as a nurse demon because Conrad is under the hallucinogen effect of Manchurian Gold). Also, if you are playing this section in co-op, Fliss can fall down if she messes up the QTEs on the ladder while chasing after Conrad.
- Chapter: Matters of the Heart (*only available Alex and Fliss stayed behind at the radio) – After Alex gets the Distributor Cap or fails to do so, there will be a scene where an imaginary rat eats through his chest. He can either stab himself with the knife or stab the demon in front of him. The demon is Fliss. So Alex stabbing the demon, kills Fliss.
- Alex Deaths
- Chapter: Revenge – Alex gets killed by Olson who chases after him. To do this, you must fail all QTEs. Conrad must also be alive and block Julia on the way out, which results in Alex getting slowed down and being killed. If Conrad isn’t there to block Julia even failing all QTEs will not get Alex killed.
- Chapter: Junior – Alex gets shot by Junior while trying to argue with him (whoever you send down the hole after the radio call can die here).
- Chapter: Matters of the Heart (*only Alex and Fliss stayed behind at the radio) – After Olson dies in the kitchen, rats will eat his body and Alex can get the distributor cap. Let the cap get smashed. Then Alex will see an imaginary rat come out of his belly. Stab the rat (which is just a hallucination), thereby Alex actually stabs himself and dies.
- Chapter: Olson (*In Chapter “Distress Call” Alex & Brad went down the hole. Everyone else stayed behind at the radio. Olson goes to Cargo Hold for the final encounter) – When fighting Olson, at the first chance tell Brad to lower the gate “NOW”. Then mess up the resulting QTE. This will make the gate fall on Alex and kill him.
- Brad Deaths
- Chapter: Ritual – Fliss picked up the knife in the cargo hold at end of Chapter “Danny”. She does not go backstage in Chapter “Ritual” and just lets the timer run out. Then she sees Brad as a hooded demon and can kill him with the knife she found.
- Chapter: Pressure (*only available if Fliss and Brad recognized each other in Chapter “Ritual”, meaning Fliss went backstage to get fresh air and Brad stayed unseen on the Duke of Milan boat and found the gas mask in Chapter “Finding Friends”) – if Brad goes down the hole instead of Fliss, he can drown if Fliss doesn’t smash the hinge.
- Chapter: Junior – Brad gets shot by Junior while trying to argue with him (whoever you send down the hole after the radio call can die here).
Example Playthrough where everyone can die at the Earliest
- Conrad – Chapter: Intrusion – Conrad chooses to escape on the speedboat, but fails the 4th button press , which results in Olson (pirate leader) shooting Conrad in the head.
- Fliss – Chapter: Ritual – Fliss does not go backstage. When Brad arrives she will see him as a hooded demon. Brad must have found the Wrench in his previous gameplay scene (end of “Finding Friends”). Brad also is not allowed to have found the gas mask in Chapter “Finding Friends”. Then Brad will attack Fliss with the Wrench, if you fail Fliss’s QTE she will get killed by Brad’s Wrench. The reason for this is because Brad doesn’t have the gas mask he will see Fliss as a demon, and because he has a wrench he will attack the demon (Fliss). Fliss will see Brad as a demon because she doesn’t go backstage and outside in Chapter “Ritual” to get fresh air.
- Julia – Chapter: Junior – Julia went down the hole in Chapter “Distress Call”. Junior shoots her in the head. As a safe alternative, Julia should during Chapter “Uninvited Guests” return from the dive without decompressing and drink alcohol during the Ghost story (always pick heart choice with her). Then she would die from the bends during the final cutscene regardless.
- Alex – Chapter: Olson – In Chapter “Distress Call” Alex & Brad went down the hole. Everyone else stayed behind at the radio. Olson goes to Cargo Hold for the final encounter. When fighting Olson, at the first chance tell Brad to lower the gate “NOW”. Then mess up the resulting QTE. This will make the gate fall on Alex and kill him.
- Brad / All remaining survivors – Chapter: The End (final cutscene) – If you found “Secret #41: Medan Hat” in “Chapter: Danny” & “Secret #42: Ship’s Logbook” in “Chapter: Distress Signal”, then gave your coordinates over the radio in “Distress Signal”, and finally turned the power back on in chapter “Depths”, it will result in your giving the military the name of the ship over the radio (see bearing “Military Bandwith” to keep track of the progress).
There you have it, this is how no-one survives for the worst ending in Man of Medan. It will award you the “Not a sole survivor” trophy or achievement.

Hey guys,
there may be some more deaths than listed here. It’s everything I got in 10+ playthroughs, but there’s one for Alex that’s seen in the black-framed picture “In the Offing” that I never got to trigger. If anyone knows about this or discovers new deaths, please post them here and you’ll be credited in the guide for your find.
Evon says
To kill Alex in Revenge you have to basically fail all QTEs and not choose the way to go. Plus I’ve had Conrad blocking Julia’s way out in my playthrough, so there’s that.
PowerPyx says
I think having Conrad there is the key to it. Because I failed all QTEs intentionally but Conrad was not there. Alex and Julia still escaped. Not sure if bringing the knife from the kitchen matters (probably not as Alex drops it during the fight with Olson before rescuing Julia from the water).
Thanks for the info, I’m adding to the guide now and crediting you for it.

(Curator’s Cut spoilers here)
I’ve actually had Olson catch Julia while she and Alex are running from him and slit her throat with the knife. I’m assuming that could happen with Alex too?
I’ve been playing Curator’s Cut for the first time and it turns out that he was actually fighting with Danny (not Olson) before “rescuing” Julia from the water. From his point of view, it shows that Julia was drowning on her own, and Danny breaks away from the struggle with Alex to go over and save her — but Alex doesn’t see it that way, he sees it as a monster that he was just struggling with now going over towards her, and her currently drowning. Julia suddenly taking a breath at the start of that chapter where she’s playable in the Theatrical Cut is immediately after Danny rescues her. She then sees Alex having jumped in to continue fighting with/trying to drown Danny.
So during that whole struggle, the knife that Alex dropped is still over on the floor, and Olson could have grabbed it at any time. So far, I’ve only played through that scene once, and Connie was there when they got to the door, but he moved out of the way in time.

I forgot to include this in my last reply but I actually got a video of Olson catching Alex with the knife;
YouTube Video
I got another today which was pretty entertaining. I managed to kill Fliss, Brad, and Alex (also by having Olson catch him, but he didn’t have the knife this time because Alex gave it to Connie) before getting to the radio because I wanted to see if I could get Conrad to go down the hole, or if I could get just one person to go down. It didn’t work out XD

Quink says
Man it so annoying trying to figure out how to kill only men or women while still saving the ones that needs to be saved. I know how to kill everyone but not how to save the remaining survivors. Any plans on doing a step by step guide like everyone survives?
Nicolai Hansen says
I found the hat and logbook, and Alex was the one remaining with the radio. But the military didn’t shoot the survivors, but put them in prison.
Maybe a bug who gave me the wrong ending.
bong says
you need to make sure you read both pages of the log book before it counts and turn power back on as well. to read the other page you must push the stick left or right for your player to flip to the next page. this is never explained in game I found that by acadent.
Gamer_Girl_666_0 says
Can you also make a list on how and when to kill every one in curator’s mode?
PowerPyx says
The deaths should be the same.
Gamer_Girl_666_0 says
I mean for example how would you go about killing alex in matters of the heart because you either control julia (if you choose to let julia stay behind by the radio) or fliss (if you choose to let fliss stay behind)
Chloe says
How do you kill Fliss in ‘Glamour Girl’? I’m trying to kill her off before I reach ‘Depths’ so that I can get Alex and Brad to go down the hole to trigger ‘Olson’.
Also I noticed that in ‘Ritual’ if you go outside straight away to clear your head from the mist eventually the room will turn back into the ballroom just before the cutscene triggers meaning Fliss sees Brad as the demon still. And the timer in the ballroom is about 7mins not 10mins. Was trying to trigger ‘Pressure’ so set a timer for 7 mins and then I would go out get the fresh air and then come back in with enough time to not have the room turn back and the cutscene started as my timer went off.
Nicolai Hansen says
If Alex gives Conrad the knife, he can confront on top of the tower and there will be a QTE which kills her (Conrad thinks she is the sailor girl).
And it doesn’t matter who is the second down the hole, just that Alex goes and Conrad stays.
Chase says
How does Alex get shot in the Junior chapter? It’s always the second person (Julia or Fliss)
PowerPyx says
You must send Alex down the hole.
Kate K says
Choose “say nothing” in response to all of Junior’s dialogue, and the person you are controlling will get shot.
Nicolai Hansen says
Fliss can also die in Glamour Girl. If Alex give Conrad the knife from the kitchen and Conrad confront the sailor girl, there comes a QTE and you can kill Fliss.
PowerPyx says
Indeed! Forgot about that one – she can also die there if you’re in co-op and mess up her QTE while climbing the ladder up the tower.
Dan says
Hei need a little help here.
I want to get everyone killed on the ship so I let Conrad joined them.
I used Brad to kill Fliss (Ritual)
I used Conrad to kill Brad (Glamour Girl – Alex give knive to Conrad before)
I failed all the QTE and choose all route on Revenge, but Julia and Alex always survive.
Conrad always show up after the scene (like if Brad was there). Am I do wrong?
Maybe Alex must keep the knive so Olson can used it to kill either Julia or Alex?
bong says
All I know is conrad must be alive to have olson either slice his throat or bash his head into the door but he could also kill juilia the same way in that scene.. if conrad is dead or missing its not possible to kill either during the olson chance..
Btw Im starting to think the game counts even qte from unrelated chapters like I too swore conrad was a live and I failed ever qte and didnt shut the door in time but aliex and julia got free of him anyways… but another time I did the same exact thing but prior to that chapter I failed most every other qte in the game and it had alix get his throat slit and another time same thing but his brains based against the door… hmmm..
carl hall says
help please. everyone died except brad, them never shot him instead locked him up in jail, what am i doing wrong
Jordan says
It’s worth noting to get the ending where everybody is killed by the military, Conrad must remain with the group and can’t have escaped in Intrusion.
Sunny says
nah, conrad died in my game by falling from beams right before everyone met up and everyone still died. only req is to have at least one alive at the end but destroy the cap when you can
Sunny says
Conrad died for me when i intentionally failed the qtes on the beams right before everyone meets up, so thats another spot
