Tales of Arise has 44 Fish and 12 Fishing Locations. Catching all 44 types of Fish unlocks the Godly Angler trophy or achievement.
You unlock the ability to fish automatically from story progress in the area “Talka Pond Road” (3rd Realm: Menancia). This is about halfway through the story, after Dohalim joins your party as a playable character. In the same location where the story teaches you how to fish, you will also find the Fishing Expert. He gives you new lures after catching enough new fish types. After catching all types of fish you need to talk to him again to unlock the trophy / achievement. You can keep track of which fish you caught and which ones you are missing under Menu > Field Guide > Fishing Notes.

How to Fish
Each fishing spot has a few types of catchable fish. Some of them appear multiple times, but for the trophy you only need to catch one total of a type. No need to catch them again if you caught them at a different spot before. After you interact with a fishing spot, press / to see which fish are present and what button combo you must press to attract them. You always need to press 2 specific buttons to lure a specific type of fish. The ones you’ve already caught will be colored green.
- Cast Lure /
- Press the button combo that attracts the specific fish you want (seen by pressing / before casting Lure)
- After the fish bites the lure, move the left stick in the direction the fish is swimming in. So if the fish swims right you press to the right, if it swims left you press to the left.
- A green to red indicator will show how close the fish is to breaking loose. Try to keep it in the green, it means you have the fish safely hooked and it can’t escape. If the bar goes to red, it means you aren’t pressing the stick in the correct direction and the fish is about to break free.
- The fish will also trigger QTE sequences and you must quickly press the button shown on screen. This will reel it in a bit, but if you fail the fish will be closer to breaking free.
- You can also quickly press / to reel in the fish more quickly when it slows down or makes a turn, but this isn’t recommended as it can make your line snap if the bar goes in the red. Better to play it safe and not use this.
There are also “boss fish” which have 2 stamina bars and take longer to reel in. After casting your lure you see at the top of the screen which types of fish are present. If it’s the same fish you already caught, simply recast your lure again. It doesn’t matter where you cast your lure, anywhere works (doesn’t have to be above the golden spots where fish are jumping out of the water).
You can catch any type of fish with any type of lure and rod. What matters is that you press the correct button. But you can catch them with any lure.
However, having the correct lure will guarantee the corresponding fish has a 100% spawn chance each time. This is particularly helpful with some rarer fish and boss fish. Sometimes two fish in the same lake have the same button combo, in such cases it can also help to have the correct lure equipped. The hardest fish to catch is the Silver Marlin, you get the lure for it by catching all other types of fish first and returning the notes to the fishing expert in Talka Pond Road.
Unlocking the best rod “Alliance Marine Rod” by finishing Kisara’s Ultimate Solo Battle Challenge (Level 60) is also helpful. This is done in Menancia > Training Grounds. However, you won’t reach such a high level until the endgame, but once you do it makes it easier to catch whatever fish you have left.
Fishing Gear Guide
Having the right type of lure equipped makes it very easy to catch rarer fish (especially boss fish). For the locations of all rods and lures, see the guide below:
