In Starfield you can fast travel to star systems, planets, moons, and landing sites. This is an essential way to get around but can be confusing at the start of the game. Here’s how to fast travel:
- Open the Starmap. On Xbox: Press Menu-Button > select the planet icon in top left, press B to zoom out and A to zoom in. On PC: press “M”, zoom out with Tab and zoom in with Left-Click.
- Hover over a Star System, a Planet/Moon, or a specific Landing Site.
- Set course by pressing: Xbox = X / PC = X
- To fast travel hold: Xbox = X / PC = X
A short animation and loading screen will show, then you arrive at the destination.
Important Fast Travel Features
- How far you can jump in one go depends on your ship’s fuel storage. The more fuel it has, the more systems you can jump at once.
- Your fuel automatically recharges instantly after every Grav Jump. It’s free and has no cost associated with it. You don’t need to mine/buy fuel anywhere.
- You can only jump to Star Systems where you discovered all other Systems along the path. If you want to go to a faraway System, you must jump one system at a time to discover all the systems in between. But next time you can jump through all systems at once without taking stops.
- The maximum system from one star to the next is expressed in Lightyears (“LY” stat on your ship). The longest distance between two stars is 28 Lightyears, so a ship with a 28LY Grav Drive or better will suffice to visit all stars in the game.
- Sometimes when you arrive in a new system you will get attacked by enemy spaceships. If you have the Grav Drive powered up you may be able to quickly jump to the next system before getting involved in combat. Otherwise you must destroy the attackers or power up the engines and fly away from them to escape combat.
That’s all there is to know about fast travel in Starfield.
