Back to Vectera is the 4th main mission in Starfield. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Back to Vectera main quest.

- Reward: 350 XP, 7200 Credits, Barrett now available as a companion
- Quest Description: Argos Extractors is packing up operations on Vectera, but there’s no word about Barrett. I need to go there and find out what happened.

Return to Vectera
For the start of this mission, you’re heading back to Vectera, the moon you started the game on. Land at the Argos Extractors Mining Outpost point marked on the moon.
Talk to Lin
Lin is the only one of the crew left hanging around, so speak with her first.
Fix the comms computer
She explains what happened with Barrett and Heller, and you need to fix the comms computer in the far building to find out where they went. Before heading inside, make sure to pick up the emergency power cell sitting on a pallet near the ship landing point. You’re going to need 3 of these to fix the comms computer in the easiest manner.
Head inside the comms building and through the first door. On the right side of the room on the shelves, you can find a second emergency power cell.
Then head through the left door (leads into a single room with a window looking back to the entrance) and on a shelf you can find the third emergency power cell you’ll need.
Head through the other door, and first go through the door on the left (not the big orange door). The next area includes a number of bunks. In the second bunk area on the right you can find the magazine Tracers Primer 05 sitting on a shelf.
Go back and follow the path through the big orange door, Immediately on the right in the next room you can find 3 slots on the wall where you can place the emergency power cells you picked up, which fixes the comms computer.
Find a clue to Barrett’s location
You’ll then need to lockpick the door into the comms room to enter. If you managed to be here without any digipicks you’ll have to go scrounge for one, as there aren’t any nearby. Once you get inside interact with the computer and read the “Emergency Transmission” entry to get a clue about where Barrett and Heller went.
Return to Lin
With the information you needed, you can head back outside and speak to Lin again to let her know what’s happened. After this you can speak with her again and recruit her as a crew member, allowing you to assign her to your ship or outposts.
Travel to Altair II
You can now head to the newly marked planet Altair II in the Altair system. Land at the marked location Crashed Ship.
Find Barrett and Heller
You land a bit of a distance away from the Crashed Ship location. Make your way over while avoiding any hostile wildlife.
Talk to Heller
You should find Heller seat on the ground beside a crate. Speak with him to learn about what happened.
Listen to “Emergency Transmission 02”
He’ll give you the note slate Emergency Transmission 02. Open up your inventory to listen to this and learn where Barrett has gone. You can also speak with Heller again after to recruit him as a crew member like you did with Lin.
Travel to Bessel III
You’ll now need to travel again to the new location Bessel III. Land at the marked location Ransacked Research Outpost.
Rescue Barrett
Here you’ll land right beside the Research Outpost. Outside there are a number of Crimson Fleet enemies you’ll need to deal with. Take them out however you like, then enter the marked door into the outpost interior.
When you enter Barrett is chatting with the Crimson Fleet inside. If you don’t immediately start shooting, you can pass a Persuasion check to set him free, bribe them yourself or through Sarah if she’s with you, or just shoot them all if you feel like it. If you do bribe or talk them down you can still go around and loot the area if you wish without them bothering you.
Return to the Lodge
Once the pirates have been dealt with and Barrett is back with you, return to the Lodge on Jemison.
Enter the library
Head inside the Library to meet up with everyone.
Wait for Barrett
Wait for Barrett to finish talking with everyone else.
Talk to Barrett
Finally talk to Barrett to complete this mission, along with making him available as a companion.
This finishes Back to Vectera in Starfield.
