This guide shows all puzzles in Silent Hill 2 Remake (2024 PS5/PC version) with their locations and solutions. Most of them are required to advance the main story but some are optional.
This guide lists them in chronological order by chapter.
South Vale (East)
Jukebox Puzzle
The first puzzle in the game can be found inside Neely’s Bar in South Vale (East). In order to finish this puzzle you will need to find some key items first:
- Broken Vinyl Record – inside Groovy Music Shop (break window inside to reach backroom)
- Vinyl Glue – inside Groovy Music Shop (break window inside to reach backroom)
- Jukebox Buton – in Saul Apartments push the shelf on the ground floor to enter the reception room, pick up the key there and use it on the door upstairs, then squeeze through the gaps to reach the top floor and search the hole in the wall three times
- Neely’s Bar Coin – inside the Cash Register in Texan Cafe (interact with key in top right of Cash Register, then hit the button in bottom right)
With all the items head to Neely’s Bar and interact with the Jukebox to get the other half of the broken Vinyl. You need to combine both halfs of Broken Vinyl Record with the Vinyl Glue from the inventory. You have to fix the right half of the Jukebox by moving the machinery back to its original place, there are 3 parts you can interact with to pull out the vinyl holder. Insert the repair Vinyl. Then the Vinyl will get raised to the top part of the Jukebox, use the Jukebox Button on the left side and Neely’s Bar Coin on the right side. Choose the recond C2 to obtain the key needed to progress.
Grand Market Number Code
In the alley next to Grand Market you can find a locked door requiring a code. The solution for the code is:
- 4442 on Light Puzzle Difficulty
- 4444 on Standard Puzzle Difficulty
Woodside Apartments
Safe in Apartment 206
Once you enter Apartment 206 you get locked into the room until you open the safe. The solutions are:
- 15 Right, 11 Left, 13 Right on Easy Puzzle Difficulty
- 13 Right, 7 Left, 11 Right on Standard Puzzle Difficulty
Coin Puzzle
This is the main puzzle for story progression in Woodside Apartments. First you must find 3 coins (key items):
- Coin (Man) – inside the Safe in Apartment 206 from the previous puzzle
- Coin (Woman) – collect Canned Juice on the third floor and throw it inside the garbage chute next to you, it will show you the coin dropping to the floor in the courtyard you went through earlier, it gets marked by a red “!” icon on the map in the courtyard outside on floor 1F
- Coin (Snake) – Go to Apartment 116, you will get a cutscene, then climb out the window to another courtyard with an empty pool. The coin is inside the baby stroller inside the pool.
The coins have to be placed and rotated according to the story at the top of the machine. Here are the solutions:
Light Puzzle Difficulty Solution:
- Rotate the Snake to Flower
- Rotate the Man to Sword
- Rotate the Flower back to Snake
- Switch the Snake to the first Slot (Sword becomes fifth Slot)
- Rorate the Sword back to the Man
- Rotate the Woman to Grave
- Lastly, switch the snake coin to the top slot
Standard Puzzle Difficulty Solution:
- Rotate the Snake to show the Flower
- Move the Woman to the fourth slot
- Rotate the Man to show the Sword and move it to the second slot.
- Rotate all three coins again and move the Man to the third slot.
- Finally, move the Snake into the top slot that has appeared to get the key.
Blue Creek Apartments (Otherworld)
Clock Puzzle + Moth Puzzle
There are 3 doors in the Apartment Complex marked with the letters H, M and S. They can only be opened by setting the clock to the correct time. The letters on the door correspond to H = Hour, M = Minutes, S = Seconds. H door only needs the hour, M door needs hour and minutes, and S door needs the hour, minutes and seconds to open.
- To open the H door you will need to grab he Hour Hand from apartment 307, from the Radio there. You will need to get the valve in 304 and use it in room 307 to lower the radio. With the Hour Hand set the clock to 9:00 (Hour Hand showing at number 9) and the H door will now be accessible.
- Inside the H door enter the kitchen and destroy the wall there. Inside the bathroom examine the hole in the wall 3 times to obtain the Minute Hand. With that you can open the M door by setting the time to 9:10 (Hour Hand at 9, Minute Hand at 2).
- For the final door you will have to head inside the M door and solve the Moth Puzzle there by following the instructions on the wall. The solutions are 582 (Light Puzzle Difficulty) / 373 (Standard Puzzle Difficulty). This will grant you the Second Hand. Use it to set the clock at 9:10:15 (Hour at 9, Minutes at 2, Seconds at 3). This will open the final S door on the 1st floor.
South Vale (West)
Inn Safe Code
The code for the Safe can be found in a memo inside Apartment 107. The Solution is 0451.
Brookhaven Hospital
Reception Office Cabinet
Back in the Reception Office, unlock the key cabinet with the code 287 (Easy Puzzle) / 724 (Standard Puzzle), the code is found by looking at the photos in the lobby.
Nurse’s Station Keypad
On the bulletin board in the Doctors’ Lounge you can find a note with the code. The Code is 3578.
X-Ray Puzzle + D1 Door Combination
Both mentioned above are one and the same puzzle. To get the combination for the door you will have to place 4 X-Rays in the X-Ray in the correct position so a code appears. 3 X-Rays can be found in the room itself and the 4th one can be found in a bathtub in the Nurse’s Staion and it has to be cleaned with the Mold Remover which you can find in the Kitchen. Placing the 4 x-Rays correctly will reveal the code 4 Right, 37 Left, 12 Right (Standard Puzzle).
3 Bracelets in Director’s Office
In Director’s Office the 3 Bracelets have to be placed on the hand in this order from top to bottom: Bloodstained Bracelet (Top), Marked Bracelet (Mid), Filthy Bracelet (Bottom). Then spin them to this code (top to bottom): 92-45-71.
Director’s Safe Code
The solution can be found on the books in the side room which you can open with the key from the previous riddle. The solution is as follows: Triangle in Circle, h, Circle with Arrow, Circle with Dot, Stickman with Horns, Circle with Lines (Light + Standard Puzzle difficulty).
Brookhaven Hospital (Otherworld)
Code for Chained Box, Left Lock
Enter Room M3 and smash the wall to find a memo on the floor. This memo contains the hints for the first code for the Chained Box. The first digit is the number of years in the first line of the memo, the second digit is the number of pills in the sink, the third digit is the time on the clock in Room M1 when you adjust it, the fourth digit is the number of flashes of the light when looking through the hole: 1622 (Standard Puzzle)
Code for Chained Box, Right Lock
Interact with the machine in room I7 to reveal the code: 9659 (Light + Standard Puzzle difficulty).
Pharmacy Jeweled Box
The combination for the Box in Pharmacy are the correct answers from the Quiz inside the elevator. The code is Q1 = 2, Q2 = 3, Q3 = 1 (Light + Standard Puzzle difficulty).
Silent Hill Historical Society
Bug Room Code
This code is a random 3 digit combination of the only 3 buttons that are not covered in blood, so number 2 – 3 – 9 in any order. Possible combinations:
- 239
- 293
- 329
- 392
- 923
- 932
Toluca Prison
Witness Room Puzzle
You need to press the switches so all of them stay on at the same time, before pulling the lever.
Scales (Weight Distribution for each door)
In the prison you will be placing weights on scales to open different doors. Below are the solutions for each door:
- Place the heaviest weight on the right scale and the lightest weight on the left scale to unlock the Serpent Door.
- Place the heaviest and lightest weights on the left scale, and the medium weight on the right scale. This will unlock the Ox Door.
- Place the lightest weight on the left scale, and all other weights on the right scale. This will unlock the Boar Door.
- Place the medium weight on the right scale, and all other weights on the left scale. This will unlock the Dove Door.
- Place the weights equally on both sides to unlock the Execution Lever.
Hangman Puzzle
You will have to connect the first part of the poem with the second one. The poems are NOT always the same, so there is not a one for all solution. They are, however, not hard to connect if you read through them. Some examples:
- For your grace…. -> I watched them burn
- The wealth of others I did take -> What were those reasons…
- I took the child …. -> My only daughter, joy of days…
- Once the sun…. -> So, my guilt is plain to see
- Mommy dearest…. -> You were, oh, so kind to me
- I waited long, I bid my time -> In truth, he was less man than beast
Once all are connected you will have to pull the noose from the crime, that was not done with a malicious intent. In the case above it was number 4 since the person stole medicine not for pleasure but to help with their pain.
Labyrinth
Rotating Cube Puzzle
Rotating Cube Puzzle 1: When you reach a rotating cube to spin a room, move it sideways and also up/down until the door of the room lines up with the floor and a bridge comes out. Spin it to the door with the two “Triangle” icons and a face over it.
Rotating Cube Puzzle 2: After going through the Rotten Area and coming back to the rotating cube, spin the building to the face with 2 infinity icons. Then go up the stairs on the right.
Rotating Cube Puzzle 3+4: When you reach the Cube for the third time, first rotate it up twice so the face with scratched-out symbols shows below the door. Then go downstairs to find a Strange Photo collectible. Finally, rotate the cube twice to the left to the face with two downward triangles above the door, go downstairs and exit through the back of the cube.
Lakeview Hotel
Reading Room Books
In the reading room you find 4 books. Then you must interact with the bookshelf in the same room and place the 4 books in correct order. Top left to bottom right: Revelations: A New Understanding, The One Who Soared, Stalwart to the End, Pride Before the Fall (Light + Standard Puzzle).
Suitcase in Reading Room Secret Room
You will have to paint a light bulb using red paint to reveal the code for it. The solution: DARK WISH (Light Puzzle) / DEED DONE (Standard Puzzle).
Mirror Puzzle
In Room 202 there is a big broken Mirror. First, pick up the broken Mirror Piece by the bed in Room 202. Then puzzle together all broken pieces at the mirror in the living area. Do this as shown below. Important: After repairing the mirror you can place an apple on the tray. The apple you place will give points towards either the Maria Ending (Ripe Apple) or the In Water Ending (Rotten Apple), so choose accordingly if you want a particular ending.

Employee Area Manager’s Office Puzzle
Use the gemstones on the puzzle box on the manager’s office desk. Rotate them around to match the symbol on the painting in the background. Green = Top Left, Red = Top Right, Blue = Bottom Left (Standard Puzzle)
Employee Area Break Room Safe
The puzzle above will give you the code for safe which is 7414 (Light + Standard Difficulty).
Music Box Puzzle
Place the figurines in the music box in this order: The Little Mermaid (Top), Cinderella Right, Snow White (Left). Rotate the discs so the tracks reach the doors, then press the button in the bottom right to move them.
For the second part of the puzzle with the keys, turn the keys like this:
Light Puzzle Difficulty:
- First key 7 times
- Second key 2 times
- Third key 1 time
Standard Puzzle Difficulty:
- First key 7 times
- Second key 5 times
- Third key 1 time
