Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance has a total of 6 endings. 4 of them are unlocked on the Canon of Creation route, the other 2 are unlocked on the Canon of Vengeance route. At the start of the game you’ll get a choice to take the girl’s hand or to not take her hand. If don’t take her hand, you’ll be on the Canon of Creation story path, which is the story from the original game on Nintendo Switch with 4 Endings. If you do take her hand, you’ll be on the Canon of Vengeance story path, which is the newly added story with the “Vengeance” version of the game, released in 2024 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC Steam.
The 4 Canon of Creation endings are unchanged from the Switch version and you unlock them in the same way. This is only decided by one choice you pick right before the final dungeon after the Metatron fight. On this route it doesn’t matter what alignment you sided with throughout the game.
The 2 new Canon of Vengeance endings do not have a choice and you will have to side with the necessary alignment throughout the game to get them. One ending is for always picking the top choice and one for always picking the bottom choice throughout the story.
Another thing to note is you unlock a Virtual Trainer Battle Sequence Fight after completing every ending. So for the Platinum trophy / 1000 Gamerscore, you cannot save scum the endings and they must all be done on the same save file through New Game+, requiring one playthrough each (6 playthroughs total). This is mandatory to unlock all Virtual Trainer Battles for the trophies Purger of Memories & He Who Revels in Carnage.
The demon Mastema unlocks for fusion from any of the 2 Canon of Vengeance Endings. The demon Abdiel unlocks for fusion from any of the 4 Canon of Creation endings. They are always guaranteed unlocks regardless of the specific sub-ending you choose.
Below the endings are in the recommended order, but technically they could be done in any order you wish. It’s best to do the Canon of Creation Neutral True Ending first because it’s a step to unlock all Superbosses. This is also the same order as we recommend in our Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Trophy Guide & Roadmap.
Ending #1: Create a world for humanity alone (Canon of Creation Neutral True Ending)
This ending is recommended for the first playthrough and it will unlock Farewell, My Friend.
At the start of the game DON’T pick the girl’s hand to be put on the Canon of Creation path. To get this ending you must complete a series of Subquests before opening the door after beating Metatron. The progress for these subquests will carry through to New Game+ so if you only did some of them in one playthrough you will only need to do the ones you missed in any subsequent playthrough.
The Subquests you need to complete are as follows (for guides on each quest refer to Subquests Walkthrough):
Khonsu Questline
- The Falcon’s Head
- The Egyptian’s Fate (must choose to spare Khonsu!)
- The Winged Sun
- The Succession of Ra
Fionn mac Cumhaill Questline
Defeat Shiva
After all of this is done, when you get to the end of the game pick these two choices: “I will destroy the throne” > “Create a world for humanity alone“.
The ending itself is an extra branch from Ending #3 “I will destroy the throne (Canon of Creation Neutral Ending)”. You will then get an extra follow-up option to pick “Create a world for humanity alone”, if you did all Subquests outlined above.
Ending #2: Create a world where all wishes are fulfilled (Canon of Vengeance Law Ending)
At the start of the game DO pick the girl’s hand to be put on the Canon of Vengeance path.
For this ending, you will need to align with Bethel/Law the entire game. So pick choices that align with that. The simplest way is to always pick the first/top answer for every single story-related choice for the entire playthrough. This ending will earn you Genesis from Apocalypse.
There are 5 Exclusive Demons you unlock for fusion in this route being:
- Saturnus, Obtained by completing God of Old, Devourer of Kin (V) Subquest, from Saturnus
- Hayataro, Obtained as soon as you enter the Empyrean after choosing this Ending
- Maria, Obtained by completing The Compassionate Queen Subquest, from Maria.
- Michael, Obtained by completing The Seraph’s Return Subquest by talking to Melchizedek in the Empyrean after completing The Holy Ring Subquest (which must be completed before opening the door after Metatron).
- Armaiti, Obtained by completing Subquests Guide to the Lost and Devotion to Order.
Since you also cleared the Canon of Creation True Ending, you should have access to the Satan Superboss towards the end of the playthrough. You must beat him to unlock Godborn Difficulty. If you’re struggling, you can still do this on playthrough #4 while going for the Canon of Vengeance Chaos ending.
Ending #3: I will destroy the throne (Canon of Creation Neutral Ending)
At the start of the game DON’T pick the girl’s hand to be put on the Canon of Creation path. At the end of the playthrough pick “I will destroy the throne” to be put on the Chaos path. This unlocks Man Is a Thinking Reed.
There is 1 Exclusive Demon you unlock for fusion in this route being:
- Danu, Obtained by completing The Noble Queen Subquest, from Maria.
Ending #4: Returned all to Chaos, unto a new beginning (Canon of Vengeance Chaos Ending)
At the start of the game DO pick the girl’s hand to be put on the Canon of Vengeance path.
For this ending, you will need to align with Yoko/Chaos the entire game. So pick choices that align with that. The simplest way is to always pick the second/bottom answer for every single story-related choice for the entire playthrough. This ending will earn you Primordial Chaos.
There are 4 Exclusive Demons you unlock for fusion in this route being:
- Saturnus, Obtained by completing God of Old, Devourer of Kin (V) Subquest, from Saturnus
- Inanna, Obtained by completing The Wrathful Queen Subquest, from Maria
- Belial, Obtained by completing the Subquest “The Holy Ring” (which must be completed before opening the door after Metatron), then talking to Nebiros in Empyrean, then finally talk to Belial on the bottom floor of Shaken to get the Subquest “The Red Dragon’s Invitation“, which will unlock him afterwards.
- Armaiti, Obtained by completing Subquests Guide to the Lost and Devotion to Order.
If you haven’t defeated Satan yet make sure you do it during this playthrough to unlock Godborn difficulty.
Ending #5: I will uphold God’s order (Canon of Creation Law Ending)
At the start of the game DON’T pick the girl’s hand to be put on the Canon of Creation path. At the end of the playthrough pick “I will uphold God’s order” to be put on the law path. This unlocks Defender of Law, Ever and Always.
If you forgot to unlock the 2 Law Exclusive Demons while going for Ending #2 you can still get them on this run (if you already unlocked them, then no need to do it again):
- Maria, Obtained by completing The Compassionate Queen Subquest, from Maria.
- Michael, Obtained by completing The Seraph’s Return Subquest by talking to Melchizedek in the Empyrean after completing The Holy Ring Subquest (which must be completed before opening the door after Metatron).
Ending #6: I will re-create the world and save Tokyo (Canon of Creation Chaos Ending)
At the start of the game DON’T pick the girl’s hand to be put on the Canon of Creation path. At the end of the playthrough pick “I will re-create the world and save Tokyo” to be put on the Chaos path. This unlocks The World of the Myriad Gods.
If you forgot to unlock the 3 Chaos Exclusive Demons while going for Ending #4 you can still get them on this run (if you already unlocked them, then no need to do it again):
- Hayataro, Obtained as soon as you enter the Empyrean after choosing this Ending
- Inanna, Obtained by completing The Compassionate Queen Subquest, from Maria
- Belial, Obtained by completing the Subquest “The Holy Ring” (which must be completed before opening the door after Metatron), then talking to Nebiros in Empyrean, then finally talk to Belial on the bottom floor of the Demon Castle to get the Subquest “The Red Dragon’s Invitation“, which will unlock him afterwards.
Adastro27 says
So according to this, Hayataro is no longer exclusive to the chaos route?
LuckySlime says
So sorry i forget to add him in but you can now obtain him in the CoV Law ending as well as him also still being available in the Chaos CoC ending
Adastro27 says
By the way, I have also read that you unlock Tao in the Compendium at the end of the CoV L route and Yoko at the end of the CoV C route, I don’t know if you would know anything about that?
Darkmellow says
@Adastro27 I went blind during my 1st playthrough chosing whatever I felt, I ended the game getting “Primordial Chaos” trophy and upon starting a NG+ I was able to save the current state of Tao and Yoko in the compendium
Shinzo says
Well turns out you don’t need the CoC true neutral to unlock CoV’s superboss. Just clear CoV, reload your data and there you go. It also applies to all the savefiles if you have more than one.
TidusTheGame says
For Ending 4: Chaos you have:
Inanna, Obtained by completing The Compassionate Queen Subquest, from Maria
Listed as LAW ONLY in the sidequest guide.
Is this LAW or CHAOS?
J says
Do you have to be neutral on the first playthrough to get create a world for humanity alone ending or can you pick all top choices during dialogue and still get it? Thanks in advance and thanks for the awesome guides!
PaleVoyager says
Wait, can’t you just save scum ending #3 then? You get Danu on the way through Ending #1 (Neutral True Ending). Is the Neutral playthrough even required at that point if you just reload a save for the trophy?
J2 says
If you’re going for the plat, then you’ll have to get all 6 endings done in one clear save file. The main reason is to unlock all the virtual simulator battles for the “Purger of Memories” trophy.
This unfortunately means you’ll have to speedrun ending #3 even though you’ve already got Danu from ending #1.
Skasaha says
You can still get Hayataro from Canon of Creation’s chaos ending, but you also unlock them in Canon of Vengeance at a much more appropriate time for it’s level – well before the route split, so it’s not exclusive to either of the new Vengeance routes.
McBurn says
You don’t have to do the true ending to unlock GodBorn or the new superboss fight
TidusTheGame says
On Ending 4 the quest: “The Compassionate Queen” is actually called “The Wrathful Queen”
PowerPyx says
Fixed now, thanks for spotting!
Jeffrey says
Ensing 4, i did choose all 2nd or last options for the playtrough but ended up on a different route. What else can i do to get the Chaos route?
Grungerocker says
At the end of Empyrean, when you meet Yoko choose 1st dialogue option: “I’m glad you’re okay” She will join your party and after fight you will be able to pick chaos route demons: Innana and Belial and get chaos route ending afterwards.
Angelz says
For ending #2, I did The Holy Ring subquest, but The Seraph’s Return didn’t pop up when I talked to Melchizedek in the Empyrean. Did I do something wrong?
Gibbs says
If you completed all the necessary subquests for the CoC True Ending while playing a CoV route, do you need to complete them again on your CoC NG+ (reborn) run?
drm85 says
You can’t get Belial on ending 4 COV Chaos. You don’t have access to the Demon King Castle in this run through
Deus says
You can get him on COV Chaos, he shows up in Shaken instead of Demon Castle.
Revolver says
Love your guides but I have to point out that your ending guide is missing a quite vital piece of information in order to complete the compendium. The one thing you failed to mention is Armaiti, a demon exclusive to the COV route ( after completing the mermaid quest) which you need in order to fuse matmesa and by extention Satan. This is important because she can only be obtained on the COV route and is easily missable if you rush through subsequent olaythroughs like I and most people who have to beat the game 6x do lol
PowerPyx says
Good spotting, thanks. It’s added now!
