Starting Location: The Muse From Abroad
Upon progressing “A Mother’s Love” to the point of the imagination-scene in Violet Holmes’ room, a sailor will enter your Manor. Examine him and you’ll receive an invitation by Verner Vogel.
The Gallery is located in the southern part of Old Town, called Gul Afshar Caravanserai on the map – Verner is waiting inside, eager to talk to you.
The Gallery-Theft
Verner informs us about a break-in and an act of vandalism in his gallery. Track objective “The Vandalism of the ‘Undergallery'”. Head down the stairs to see his infamous “Undergallery” with rather bizarre pieces, not meant for the general audience.
Just to the right upon descending, you can inspect a bloody shark sculpture.
Around the left side near a bed, there are a few clues to be found: a shovel and two footprints on the ground, as well as footprints and scratches inside the coal-chute.
Turning around, you can interact with a covered canvas next to the bed.
Continuing clockwise, you can interact with 3 clues in and around the coffin (crow, skeleton & handprint on coffin).
Next to it, is a large painting standing on the ground, with a bit of a weathered appearance, inspect it.
Further to the right, there is another painting to inspect, as well as some green glowing mushrooms.
In the area left of the mushrooms, we can inspect some smoldering rubble. Interact with the picture frame as well as the small cigarette butt (rotate to see 2 clues on cigarette).
Use concentration mode in the corner where the pictures used to hang.
Now, with all the clues, we can recreate the events. Interact with the white bubble next to the shark. This is the correct order of events: Vogel coming down stairs, unknown person coming from coal chute, unknown person getting in the coffin, unknown person burning frame, unknown person taking pictures from wall,
Hold / to validate the sequence, then head back to Vogel and report your findings.
Finding Mercurio’s Address
Verner told us about an artist by the name of Boniface Mercurio, who was the painter of the stolen artwork. Pin objective “Mercurio’s Address” and head to the Cordona Chronicle building. Use the archive to pinpoint his exact location (Filter: People = Celebrities / Section = Front Page / Districts = Old City).
Getting inside the Apartment
Pin the new objective “The Brawl at Artists’ Sell-Out”. Mercurio’s Apartment is situated in the Old Town, on Hermes Ave. Upon arrival, the landlady tells us that no visitors are permitted.
We need another plan. Sherlock still has the picture from the news article. Time to get some fresh clothes from any Clothes Trader (e.g. nearby Old Town Market).
Select the Bohemian outfit, Messy Hair, Square Glasses, Artist’s Bristles (beard) and Artist’s Tan Powder (make-up). You can rent them for free, except the square glasses that must be bought for 5 money.
Head back to the apartment and try your luck again. Looks like we were able to fool the lady and now can proceed to go upstairs.
Mercurio’s Apartment
This case is taking a bit of a turn – we find Mercurio’s corpse on the floor. Interact with the five clues on/around him (chest in concentration mode, hand in concentration mode, throat, blood-soaked rags near head, knife near hand – must rotate to view both sides).
In front of his body on the floor, there is a blood-soaked painting we’ll need to inspect.
The desk right next to it has another five pieces of intel we need to collect (right side of table – use concentration, broken frame on right side – use concentration, broken bottle on right side, camera on left, newspaper in drawer).
There are also bottles on the floor by the entrance door, picture frames in chest at bed, a painting on the bed.
Head inside the red-lit bathroom to find two further clues (liquids & photo hanging above it).
With all things collected, we can now use our imagination again to recreate the events, as shown below: Mercurio punches attacker with bottle at door, Mercurio attacks with picture frame but gets stabbed with knife, attacker on ground leaning over him to cut his throat, attacker searching frames in bed chest).
After completing this sequence, pick up the picture in the blood puddle.
Now, perform a chemical analysis on it to clean the stains and reveal what was underneath the blood.
Place the painting on the easel and see what was different when he painted it. The missing skull can be found in the bathroom in the left corner.
Upon talking with Jon, we are pretty much done here. He issues a challenge not to tell the landlady about Mercurio’s death. Use the dialogue options “Who entered my flat recently?” and “Call the Police to my flat.” to obtain the missable trophy Perfect Gentleman.
Jon’s Redrawing of a Pregnant Girl
After leaving Mercurio’s house, you only should have one active objective that can be pursued – the picture of a young woman. Pin “Jon’s redrawing of a pregnant girl”.
To reveal any further information, we need to be dressed appropriately. A Worker’s Apron will do the trick. If you don’t yet have one, buy/rent it from any Clothing Trader.
Afterward, you need to roam the streets and keep your eyes open for women dressed in similar clothes as depicted on the pinned drawing. They can be found in several areas of the map; Old City is the primary place to encounter them. Below is an example where I found one, but it’s just random luck.
If you are “rejected”, keep on trying until someone is kind enough to provide the intel we need.
Refugee Camp
Head over to the refugee camp is located under Victoria Bridge, between Scaladio and Silverton.
Go down the stairs on the side of the bridge and approach the chief detective in charge to start your conversation. Your choices don’t matter, he will let us in eventually regardless.
While speaking to him, we can draw the character portrait of Harlow. The correct solution is “Dazed formalist”.
Heading inside, we have to talk to Inspector Tewksbury before interacting with any clues.
Now make sure you pin the “Refugee Camp Crime Scene” objective from the casebook. It’s mandatory to see some of the footprints etc. in concentration mode.
The first clue is a bloody handprint at the small wooden bridge (“9” marker).
Right next to it are bootprints (“4” marker).
Close by are some smashed crates with some blood next to it (“3” marker), has 2 clues: smashed crate, blood on ground.
Jon will be kneeling next to a set of three different footprints (“8” marker).
The table under the tent holds 3 belongings of the deceased (“2” marker) – cigarettes, money, leather sheath.
Left of the table, you can find the corpse on a small pier (“1” marker). It has 5 clues (his fingernails – concentration mode, shoes, the dagger, the chest wound after pulling out dagger, neck tattoo).
Towards the end of the camp, there is some broken jewelry (“5” marker), as well as a stick with some blood next to it (“6” marker).
Close to the housing, there are more footprints to be found (“7” marker), which is the last of the clues marked by the blue police-evidence markers.
To fulfill one of the conditions of the missable Voice of the People, we need to tend to the wounded refugee next to the “5” marker and complete Jon’s Challenge.
First, inspect the wounded man on the ground (chest & head).
Track the “Wounded Refugee” objective. Now, we need to create a makeshift first-aid solution. Grab some clothes off the line and get some of the boiling water from the large pot.
To the right of the corpse on the pier, you can find some Aloe Vera on the ground, which is the third and final ingredient we need.
Perform a Chemical Analysis on the “Wounded Refugee” entry in the casebook and head back to the wounded man to save him. You won’t receive a trophy just yet, there is a 2nd step at the end of the case which will be pointed out when we get there.
Now, we need to pin the evidence “How Did the Intruder Get Into the Camp” to our screen and check out several possibilities in concentration mode. Start with the spot at the water, close to where you found the stick used to fight the Intruder.
Two further scenes need to be inspected; the gate in the sewers next to the corpse, as well as the ladder behind Inspector Tewksbury.
Finally, head towards the exit and interact with the cigarette butts on the ground. One of them is by another brand than the others.
Now, we can recreate the attack using Sherlock’s imagination. Interact with the white orb next to Inspector Tewksbury. The solution is shown below. We’ll start at the end of the camp at the beach with “7” marker and walk to the bridge with the “9” marker: Man pulls woman’s arm, another man attacks the two of them and the woman falls back with her arm stretched out, woman slips on floor, man runs away from another guy, man stumbles over crates, man falls into water head-on because he slipped.
After this, you can talk to the Inspector / Detective and present them some of the evidence we’ve found.
Presenting the solution to the death will finally open up the possibility to talk to the refugees themselves.
At this point, you should also eavesdrop on the two policemen in the sewers next to the corpse, if you haven’t already. Correct intel: Take Refugees out, Money & Camp Lockdown.
Then pin “What’s Going On At the Refugee Camp?” and talk to the refugees around the camp about it until you get a clue.
Afterward, pin “Jon’s Redrawing Of a Pregnant Girl” to your screen and talk to the man standing at the very end of the camp. If you did the optional objective to heal the refugee, he will be thankful you healed his friend and lets you talk to Neila, the woman from the photo.
Take a moment to go to the Mind Palace Menu and combine all clues you gathered so far, you can’t do anything wrong here as only correct clues can be combined. In particular, combining “Photograph of a violation” with “The defiler has a peculiar cross” unlocks the new objective “Sketch of the Abuser” in the casebook, which we can now pin to the screen.
Talk to the Inspector and Harlow once again to get their view on the last pieces of intel you’ve gathered. If you’ve completed everything, the “All Evidence Collected”-badge should appear on the screen.
Searching City Hall Archives
With the clue from Neila about the award on the perpetrator’s clothes, it is time to consult the City Hall Archives. Pin objective “Sketch of the Abuser” and filter by Subjects = Officials / Period = British (1800s) / Registry = Occupation.
Looks like we’re already in the correct spot! Head over to the office on the other side of the foyer to confront the Envoy.
Start talking to him and draw the character portrait. To fulfill the first condition of the missable Short Temper, you must characterize him as a Partygoer.
This will allow us to punch him. Pick the choice “Punch him in the face” in the top left, this is a necessary step for Short Temper.
Now, exhaust all dialogue options with him. You don’t have to decide the outcome just yet.
Searching Police Archives
Another angle we can try out is going after the neck tattoo of the dead assailant from the camp.
Consult the Police Archive to reveal the address of the Bernadotti Office. Pin objective “Camp Intruder’s Tattoo” and filter by Crimes = Smuggling / Subjects = Suspects / Districts = Scaladio.
Bernadotti Main Office
With the location revealed, we can pin objective “Nicolo Bernadotti Questioning Summary” and travel to north-east Grand Saray to confront Bernadotti.
The front door will be closed, so we need to make our way into the backyard. To achieve the missable Short Temper, put on your Detective Clothes before talking to the guard at the entrance (default starting outfit).
Say “I’m a private investigator” > “Hit him”. Sherlock will knock him out and there’s a short transition where he goes into the building. Short Temper should unlock at this point if you followed all the above steps.
Inside, we need to fight some goons. If you take the lethal on non-lethal approach is up to you.
Upon completion, proceed through the only available door (they all look quite similar, just try them all).
Inside will be a frightened refugee, who cannot be interviewed. Instead, check out the statue in the left corner.
To the right side, we have the stolen painting in question. There are 2 clues on it: rag covering it & the bottom center area of the painting.
Additionally, there are 3 more clues in the crate to the right of it (text on front of crate, wooden statue on the left – rotate to view front and back, mask on the right).
Through the other door is another guard who acts tough at first, but eventually just runs off. In this hallway, use concentration mode on the newspaper on the left bench.
Proceeding through the door at the end of this hallway, we will enter the foyer (where the front door was closed initially). Inspect the portrait on the wall (2 clues: portrait itself and the date below it).
On the desk of the receptionist, there are two clues that can be interacted with in concentration mode (book on left, paper on right).
Inside Bernadottis’s office (the white door), there are two clues; one on his desk, the other on the bookshelf – both can be interacted with in concentration mode.
Time to talk to the man and observe him. The character portrait you pick is of no consequence as they’re both correct, for the sake of this walkthrough we’ll go with “Ruthless crime lord”.
Now, exhaust all dialogue options with him. You don’t have to decide the outcome just yet.
Case Conclusion
In the end, Sherlock can choose between three different outcomes. Make a manual save to see the different endings for yourself and choose the one you’re happy with. You can go to the Mind Palace Menu to pick a conclusion, then talk to the Envoy, or Bernadotti, or Vogel to give one of them the photo. If you give it to the Envoy or Bernadotti, you will be teleported to Vogel’s art gallery afterward and must report what happened to the stolen painting to end the case.
Option 1 – Give the photo to the Envoy (Recommended)
The Envoy, Thomas Norton, promises to improve the conditions for all the Refugees. Giving him the photo unlocks missable Voice of the People. You must also have healed the wounded man in the refugee camp with the Aloe Vera mixture, as described earlier. Sometimes, this trophy doesn’t unlock correctly, in that case reboot the game, reload the manual save and give the photo to the Envoy once again.
Option 2 – Give the photo to Bernadotti
Bernadotti will have some leverage against the Envoy and promises to help Neila but not the other refugees.
Option 3 – Give the photo to Vogel
Sherlock wants to publish the truth by leaking it to the Cordona Chronicle Newspaper, which will destroy the reputation of the Envoy but doesn’t help the refugees.
Now continue with Main Case “A Mother’s Love“.

Aator says
What happens when you do not heal the refugee?
Kerrie says
A Little Late to this guide, but I’ve loaded up my manual save at least 10 times now and the trophy for “voice of the people” won’t unlock. I treated the refugee and gave the photo to the envoy and nothing.
