Starting Location: The Missing Shopkeeper
The Missing Shopkeeper case starts in Borough: Scaladio, Place: inside Cordona Chronicle building.
After finishing Main Case “A Gilded Cage“, you can talk to the woman in the Cordona Chronicle building. She will first give you the case “Eel Hunting“. You must complete this quest, then at the end when returning to the woman, tell her “I’ll take the case”, which then starts “The Missing Shopkeeper” case.
Solution
Start by tracking objective “Missing: Angelo Dondolo” in your casebook. We need to go to Old City, to the eastern end of Ceto St. There we find Angelo’s Bookshop.
Interact with the lock on the door and the letter in front of it. That’s all the evidence we can find here.
Pin objective “Letter from a Cobbler” to your screen. Now you will be able to see the white outline of a footprint in front of the door. Look at it in concentration mode / and follow the tracks.
At the end of the tracks, you’ll end up in a yard just a few steps north-east of the bookshop.
In this yard, look at the 4 clues on the ground (bookmark in bottom right, wooden bat in top right, cigarettes in top left, bootprint via concentration mode in top left).
Now pin the new objective “Tracking Angelo Dondolo”. With it pinned, talk to the people in the yard. You need to wear clothes similar to theirs, some simple worker’s clothes and not fancy suits. A “Worker’s Apron”, and “Shenandoah Beard” are fine.
After they share info with you, you get a new objective “Testimony of a Neighbour”. Pin this to your screen, then head downstairs to Castle Rd., directly north. With the objective pinned you’ll see a white outline on the street, use concentration mode to inspect them.
Immediately after inspecting the two spots there, pin objective “Tracking Angelo Dondolo” in your casebook. This has the eye icon, so it must be pinned to see the tracks to follow. Now you can use concentration mode to see the white outlines to follow, leading you east on Castle Rd.
The tracks end at the location shown below, it gets marked as “Old Cart” on the map. Enter the blue metal door left of the cart.
This leads into a bandit camp. Take out all bandits, it doesn’t matter if you kill or arrest them (but arrests give 1 money each). After they’re dealt with, inspect the table in the center of the room.
Now you must inspect the clues on the tables on the sides of the room for clues and keys. We’ll first go to the one on the side where Jon is standing. It has 3 clues: knife, dismembered fingers, ring (rotate ring to see engraving inside).
There’s another table to the right of the last one, which has 2 clues (map and keys).
With those keys you can now go through the prison cell on the right. In this room we can inspect 3 points of interest – note on the tale, books on floor, the corpse of Angelo on chair (check face, hand, arm tattoo).
Missable Trophy: Read It and Weep – after finding the clues in this room, pin the objective “Bandit’s Lair” and head over to the other cell (to the immediate right after leaving the cell with Angelo’s body). In there, inspect the mattress, then use concentration mode on the mattress to see a bloody footprint and loose tile on the ground. Interact with the tile to find the hidden red book underneath it, called “Crime and Punishment”. This unlocks the trophy right away.
The only thing left to do is to pin objective “Angelo’s Body” and head back to our quest giver Ms. Sertel in the Cordona Chronicle building. For trophies or completion it doesn’t matter what dialogues you pick with her. However, there are some interesting outcomes here. If you tell her “I can’t tell you”, your conversation ends there and you spare the lady some bad news. If you pick “I found a ring”, Ms. Sertel will recognize it immediately because it’s her fiance’s ring. Turns out our dead Angelo is Ms. Sertel’s fiance. You can now either tell her “Angelo is dead” in which case she’ll be upset Mycroft hid this from her and she’ll cut her ties with Mycroft. If you say “Angelo left (lie)”, she will be worried but will stay on with Mycroft. Regardless, you get 20 Money as a reward and your choice has no real consequence and doesn’t lock you out of any other quests.
This finishes The Missing Shopkeeper side case in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One.
