Downpour is the sixteenth Story Mission in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. This walkthrough will guide you through the whole Downpour mission.
Region: Riverbed
Quest Giver: automatic
Requirement: having finished Last Emperor
Trophy: Heart of the Serpent
Find Jonah
Lara finds herself stranded with no weapons but her knife. So for the first part of the mission, subtlety is the key, as there is no fallback-option in form of an AK.
As usual, press to make out some isolated (yellow) targets and take care of them.
If the enemies don’t seem to move from their positions or usual route, you might want to step out of cover for a bit, so the enemies attention-meter fills a bit and he investigates the surroundings.
What a fatal mistake!
At the end of this first encounter, you can also craft a molotow from a bottle and take care of the last two enemies.
Lara is spotting a camp on a hill – this is where we are headed now. Sadly, you can’t use the campfire to get back your guns. We’ll stay with just the knife a bit longer.
In the meantime, Commander Rourke pops in on our radio-frequency and wants to have a little chat.
In the next section, enemies with thermal vision are introduced. They can see you hiding in vegetation, but not behind walls.
Your main priority should be to get rid of these enemies first, as they might screw up your stealthy approaches.
Use at all times to check the visibility of your enemies and to decide, whether to approach now.
If you might get spotted, the Serpent’s Fury skill can come in handy to contain the situation and kill the second enemy before he can raise an alarm.
Just like the last encounter, there is a possibility to craft molotows for your convenience.
After this encounter, Jonah finally comes through on the radio. He says that he is at the refinery. That is where we’ve headed anyhow.
Luckily, Lara finds a Bow along the way. Additionally, the recipe for poisonous arrows, which let the enemies attack each other.
There is a trophy for letting 5 enemies kill each other. You definitively should farm this via checkpoint reload at the first encounter sitting on a branch.
With the bow – either with regular arrows, or the newly acquired poisoned ones – our fight in the next encounter has a few more options for us in store.
Of course, you should try to get rid of some lonesome enemies first, before creating some havoc.
In the final area of this encounter, there are also explosives which can take out multiple enemies at once.
When this encounter is over, Rourke calls us again and tells us that Jonah was killed. Maybe he is bluffing, we can’t tell for sure.
Evade the Helicopter
When crossing a bridge, Lara is getting attacked by a helicopter and has to run away quickly.
Once ascended the tower in front of you, immediately turn right and make the jump for the broken platform.
The platform breaks and we have to climb up again from a bit lower.
Ultimately, the chopper shoots down the tower and Lara lands in the water.
…And emerges. *dramatic music*
Defeat Trinity
Now, we start this checkpoint with an AK in our hands; ready to resolve our anger management issues.
Make sure to use of the explosive barrels. Not only do they kill several enemies at once, but
you need them to get rid of the helicopter as well. Three hits with explosions underneath it will make it crash.
In the final cutscene, Jonah appears. Rourke did bluff indeed.
Our team tries to figure out the meaning of the last clue Lara got from the tomb in Paititi. They reach a conclusion and are on their way..
The Downpour mission ends after the cutscene and we start the next one in the Mission of San Juan-area and get a trophy for our efforts.
