In Sekiro Shadows Die Twice you can unlock 3 Ninjutsu Techniques. This guide shows all Sekiro Ninjutsu Locations & how to get them. The Ninjutsu let you do certain follow-up moves after performing backstab kills. Unlocking all of them grants the “All Ninjutsu Techniques” trophy or achievement.
They are equipped in the inventory in addition to combat arts. They are all rewards for defeating bosses: 2 from unmissable main bosses and 1 from an optional boss.
Ninjutsu 1 – Bloodsmoke
Automatic story unlock. This Ninjutsu lets you create a smokescreen after backstabbing an enemy and requires 6 Spirit Emblems to be used. You will unlock this one by defeating Genichiro in Ashina Castle. It’s a mandatory unmissable boss fight required to beat the game so you will unlock this Ninjutsu automatically.
Ninjutsu 2 – Puppeteer
Automatic story unlock. This Ninjutsu lets you manipulate the enemy after backstabbing them. The enemy will turn blue-ish and won’t attack you any longer. It is also required to be able to defeat Great Serpent for the trophy / achievement with the same name. You will receive this Ninjutsu by defeating the Folding Screen Monkeys. This is a mandatory main boss in the region Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo. You have to do this to advance the story so you’ll get it this Ninjutsu automatically.
Ninjutsu 3 – Bestowal
This Ninjutsu lets you wrap your sword in enemy’s blood in order to extend your range by backstabbing an enemy. In order to unlock it you will have to follow multiple steps.
Step 1: Defeat the Guardian Ape
You won’t be able to receive it before defeating the Guardian Ape boss, a non-optional boss fight at the bottom of the Sunken Valley.
Step 2: Get past the Great Serpent in the Depths
From Bodhisattva Valley Idol in the Sunken Valley (just before the Ape boss) head down to the poison-filled valley below. Follow the path staying on the right side, past a merchant and you will reach a cave with the Great Serpent blocking your path. Follow the path until you reach its head but do not approach it or it will annihilate your health bar. Instead, when seeing his head, go down on the left side and use the Puppeteer Ninjutsu on the scared monkey by pressing the attack button again after backstabbing it. The monkey will gain the Serpent’s Attention and will clear your path. Rest in peace you hairy hero.
Step 3: Another Ape
After getting past the Serpent you will reach Ashina Depths. In a circular room filled with poison you will have to defeat a rifleman mini boss and once you defeat him the fog gate next to his original location will disappear. There you will reach a circular arena where you will have your rematch against the second form of the Guardian Ape – the Headless Ape. Once you take down his first health bar a second Ape with the moveset of the first form Guardian Ape will appear, but with less health. Kill it quickly to focus on the Headless Ape again. Once you defeat it approach its corpse and execute the corpse with the mortal blade. It will grant you your final Ninjutsu as well as All Ninjutsu Techniques trophy / achievement for obtaining all Ninjutsu in the game. Additionally, you get the Guardian Ape Immortality Severed trophy / achievement for executing the Guardian ape a second time.
That’s all the Ninjutsu techniques you can unlock in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.

What happenes if you defeat the boss but yoy forget to use the mortal blade at the end?
Aramkha says
It stays mostly dead on the ground but still writhing for you to come back and finish it off when you get the blade.
Jables161 says
Is the second Guardian Ape fight really optional? I thought you need to go there to get to the Mibu Village, I didn’t find another way, even in my third playtrough
PowerPyx says
It is optional if you went to Ashina Depths first.
Then you’d have no reason to ever go through that cave again.
If you went to Sunken Valley first (and hadn’t reached the Forst idol yet) then you’ll pass by it automatically.
Etbim says
Can you kill the giant snake before all of this ?
itsbosco1025 says
so it is a non-optional boss if I kill guardian ape before heading to ashina depth ?
Lucas Tadeu Chiarelli says
Basically, yeah
Green says
That fight is easier that the single ape, cause he starts on his second stage
Sultan says
I kill guardian ape second time in play through 2# and he didn’t give me anything why
