Resident Evil 7 Trophy Roadmap
- Estimated trophy difficulty: 4/10
- Approximate amount of time to platinum: 20-30 hours (with trophy guide)
- Offline Trophies: 38 (22, 12, 3, 1)
- Number of missable trophies: 31 – Everything except story-related trophies. Can make manual save games to replay specific areas.
- Glitched trophies: 0
- Does difficulty affect trophies?: Yes, you have to beat the game on madhouse difficulty. Antique Coin Collectibles are also different on madhouse.
- Minimum Playthroughs: 3
- PS4/PS5 Autopop & Save Transfer: Yes, there is save transfer from PS4 to PS5. Some trophies autopop and others don’t (it doesn’t autopop everything).
- Release Date: Jan 23, 2017 (PS4) / Jun 13, 2022 (PS5)
Step 1: Easy Difficulty Playthrough + Collectibles + Ending 1
Beating the game one time is required to unlock madhouse difficulty (unless you unlocked it from the pre-order bonus, but even if that’s the case you really should start on a lower difficulty). It’s up to you whether to play on easy or normal. Playing on easy will suffice to unlock madhouse.
Concentrate on finding all collectibles. This includes 20 Mr. Everywhere Statues, 18 Antique Coins, 32 Files, 4 Videotapes.
Even though most trophies are technically missable you will find that the vast majority comes without trying. The most missable ones to look out for are (in this order):
- Can’t Catch Me
- Duck if You Love Life
- Things Got Personal
- Slash Slash, Slashity Slash!
- Less Is More
- Back Off, Mrs. B!
- Fly Swatter
- Out Before Dessert
- That’s a Spicy Meat-a-ball
To get Ending #1 you must give Mia the cure after defeating mutant Jack Baker.
You can also follow this YouTube Playlist (everything in chronological story order): Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Trophy Playlist
Step 2: Easy Difficulty Speedrun + No Item Box Uses + No Medkits
By now you will have done a lot of searching for collectibles and know the maps really well. You must beat the game in 4 hours or less for the trophy “Just Get Me Outta Here”. You can very easily combine this with the trophies “Resource Manager” and “Walk it Off” for not using item boxes or medkits. Since you will run past most enemies there won’t be much need for healing. You can actually use up to 3 medkits if you really need them. Steroids don’t count as medkits. The reason why I recommend this as step 2 is because you unlock the “Circular Saw” from beating the game in less than 4 hours. This is an extremely powerful melee weapon with infinite ammo that can kill bosses on madhouse difficulty in just a few seconds. It will make the madhouse playthrough 10 times easier as you can simply cut through the enemies. You can make manual saves during your speedrun. If you take too long in a section reload the last manual save from the main menu and retry the section, or follow the video walkthrough in the guide below.
Step 3: Madhouse Difficulty + Antique Coins + Ending 2
Madhouse difficulty is unlocked by beating the game for the first time on any difficulty. This difficulty changes a lot of things. You have to find Cassette Tapes to save the game manually but they are in plain sight right next to the cassette recorders. Enemies are much more aggressive, spawn in different places, deal more damage and can take more damage. You’ll even notice some new items. Among those new items are Antique Coin Collectibles. There are 33 of them in madhouse difficulty (easy/normal had only 18). You can use them at certain cages to buy new weapons and upgrades. Do your best to find all Antique Coins. If you miss one you have to do another playthrough on madhouse! The “Circular Saw” that you unlock for beating the game in 4 hours or less is extremely useful here because it cuts down boss enemies in just a few seconds. So to make things easier you may want to finish your speedrun before starting madhouse.
To get Ending #2 you must give Zoe the cure after defeating mutant Jack Baker.

Who’s Your Daddy Now? Complete the game on Madhouse. |
||
To unlock Madhouse difficulty you must beat the story one time (on easy or normal).
This difficulty changes a lot of things. You have to find Cassette Tapes to save the game manually (there’s always some sitting next to the cassette recorders, in plain sight). Ammo and health conservation play an important role. Don’t engage in combat if it can be avoided. Save your ammo and medkits for bosses. There are some tough sections but it’s all quite doable. The boss fights are the hardest part. Below you can find tips and strategies for every boss: One weapon that I use a lot is the Circular Saw. When pressing L2+R2 (LT+RT) it does tremendous damage and kills some bosses within seconds. Even better: it doesn’t consume any ammo and can be used infinitely, making it the best choice of melee weapon. It is unlocked by speedrunning the game in 4 hours or less on any difficulty. The items “The Essence of Defense” (for destroying all 20 Mr. Everywheres) and “Secrets of Defense” (for completing the game on normal difficulty) cause you to take less damage from blocking. Put these items in your inventory from the item box! Some of the tactics in this guide are based on these items and it’s highly recommended you unlock them before attempting madhouse. It will make your playthrough much easier. Mia Boss Fight Old House (0:05) Mia Boss Fight Attic (1:12) Jack Baker Boss Fight Garage (3:43) Jack Baker Boss Fight Morgue (7:00) Marguerite Boss Fight Old House (8:12) Marguerite Boss Fight Garden House / Greenhouse (9:57) Barn Fight (12:20) Mutant Jack Baker Megaboss (15:06) Mia Boss Fight Old Ship (21:50) Endboss (23:19) |
||
Behind Closed Doors Close an open door by yourself. |
||
Press X-Button on an open door. Should come naturally without trying.
Arms in the Air Block an enemy attack by guarding. |
||
Get close to an enemy and hold L1 to block incoming attacks.
A-ha! Obtain something by closely examining an item. |
||
This will almost certainly come without trying. It can be done in the first 5 minutes of the game. You’ll come across a handbag on the ground, just before entering the house. Inspect it, turn it around and press X to pick up Mia’s driver’s license. You can inspect many other objects throughout the game, for example boxes that contain lock picks.
Master of Unlocking Use a lock pick to open something. |
||
The first lock pick can be found in the main house, in the laundry room with the washing machines and stinky socks. There’s a box by the door. Open it to get the lock pick. There’s a locked drawer in the hall outside that you can open with the lock pick. This unlocks the trophy / achievement. The lock pick is only there on easy / normal difficulty! |
||
Nice Try Put an unrelated object on a shadow plinth. |
||
The earliest opportunity to do this is in the main hall after fighting Jack Baker. There’s a bright light shining at a picture. Between the light and picture is a so called “shadow plinth”. Grab the pendulum from the clock to the left and put it on the shadow plinth. |
||
Open Your Eyes Use psychostimulants. |
||
You’ll come across psychostimulants quite frequently throughout the game. One can be found in the room after using shadow plinth in the main hall (on your objective to obtain all 3 dog heads).
In the Bag Increase your item slots. |
||
Mission: Search the Old House for the Serum Over the course of the story you can find several inventory upgrades. They look like big camping bags. An easy location is in the Old House by the Cassette Recorder. There’s only one Cassette Recorder here and it’s marked on the map. The camping bag is sitting on the table next to the cassette recorder. Pick it up and the trophy / achievement will unlock. You now have 4 item slots extra! |
||
Things Got Personal Finish off an enemy with the knife. |
||
Mission: Search the Old House for the Serum |
||
Slash Slash, Slashity Slash! Clear insects off a door using a knife. |
||
Mission: Search the Old House for the Serum |
||
Back Off, Mrs. B! Fight off Marguerite while she wanders the old house to make her run away. |
||
Mission: Search the Old House for the Serum After meeting Mia in the basement of the old house you will encounter Marguerite Baker. When you exit the basement she will be waiting for you behind a door and starts to wander around the house. Shoot everything you’ve got at her. Use the burner to kill off the insects that she summons and use a shotgun or pistol to shoot her in the head. She can take quite a bit of damage so come well prepared. This is the only opportunity to do this! If you progress too far you will miss this trophy. It’s highly recommended that you make a manual save when reaching the Old House. |
||
Duck If You Love Life Avoid Jack’s scissor attack by crouching. |
||
Mission: Get 3 Dog Heads and Open the Door to the Yard |
||
Less is More Take down two or more enemies with one shot. |
||
Mission: Search the Old House for the Serum You can combine this with the trophy “Back Off, Mrs. B!”. |
||
Fly Swatter Shoot and knock back Marguerite while she’s leaping at you. |
||
Mission: Create the Serum This can only be done during the Marguerite Boss Fight in the Garden. Deal some damage to her and she’ll start to run up walls like a spider. She will then try to jump onto you. While she’s in midair you must shoot her. This works best with the shotgun. She will stop and look at you when she’s about to do a leap attack. Shoot immediately after she has jumped off. |
||
That’s a Spicy Meat-a-ball Kill an enemy by attaching a Remote Bomb to them and detonating it. |
||
Mission: Pursue Eveline |
||
1st Place at the Science Fair Create all items that contain Chem Fluid and Strong Chem Fluid. |
||
There are the following crafting combinations:
Herb + Chem Fluid = First Aid Med Gunpowder + Chem Fluid = Handgun Ammo Solid Fuel + Chem Fluid = Burner Fuel Supplements + Chem Fluid = Psychostimulants Craft all of them once to unlock the trophy. You don’t have to use the crafted items (it’s okay if you throw them away immediately). These items are scattered in multiple locations throughout the game. Just pick up everything you come across and you’ll find more than enough materials. |
||
Can’t Catch Me Complete the “Mia” videotape without being spotted by Marguerite. |
||
Mission: Get out of the house Now you’ll be playing as Mia and have to escape Marguerite. Just stay behind cover whenever Marguerite is nearby. After finishing the tape you’ll earn the trophy. |
||
Out Before Dessert Complete the “Happy Birthday” videotape within 5 minutes. |
||
Mission: Get the Serum Ingredients from Lucas After escaping the old house you will have to find two keycards to open the locked gate in the yard. On the way to one of those keycards you will come to a child’s room. Up in the attic is the “Happy Birthday” videotape. You will have to go here as part of the story so the room is unmissable! Steps: 1) Pick up CANDLE, walk to cake and listen to Lucas. 2) Open the code lock to get STRAW DOLL. Combination = Chainsaw Man – Raven on Hat – Baby. You can also see the combo by getting the telescope from the toilet, equipping it and running through the water in cake room, then look at screens through telescope and they will show the combination. 3) Get WINDING KEY from keg in cake room. 4) Burn STRAW DOLL at stove to get DUMMY FINGER. 5) Light CANDLE at stove. Burn the rope on the door with the candle. Enter room behind door and pick up BALLOON in the corner. 6) Put BALLOON on gas pipe to get QUILL PEN. 7) Put DUMMY FINGER, QUILL PEN and WINDING KEY on the mannequin where you got CANDLE. 8) It now writes the password “LOSER” on your arm. Enter password on lock in balloon room to get VALVE HANDLE. 9) Put VALVE HANDLE on the pipe in cake room. Light up CANDLE at stove and put it on cake. That solves this puzzle room. The trophy should pop as soon as you put the lit candle on the cake. You can replay the tape as often as you like to retry the trophy. It may take a few tries to beat the time limit. |

Mad Pelicans Obtain all of the Antique Coins in Madhouse difficulty. |
||
Resident Evil 7 has 33 Antique Coins on Madhouse Difficulty. The Antique Coins on Madhouse are different from easy / normal difficulty! There are 33 of them on Madhouse (only 18 on easy) and their locations are different. There are two separate collectible trophies for them: “Mad Pelicans” for locating 33 coins on Madhouse and “Pelicans in Your Pocket” for getting 18 coins on easy/normal. See Resident Evil 7 All Collectible Locations for their locations on easy / normal. All of these collectibles are missable. If you progress too far you will be unable to access certain areas. There is no chapter select and you must get everything in one playthrough. Antique Coins can also be used to purchase new items and weapons on your playthrough. Sometimes you come across cages where coins can be inserted. So they actually have some gameplay use and yield good rewards such as the .44 Magnum. You are allowed to spend the coins on cages and will receive the trophy anyway! |

Just Get Me Outta Here Complete the game within 4 hours. |
||
The “Just Get Me Outta Here” trophy requires you to beat the game in 4 hours or less. My time was 2 hours 30 minutes 50 seconds. Speedruns Tips:
All in all it’s not a difficult game to speedrun. You just have to know what to do and where to go. After doing 1-2 playthroughs you should be able to beat the 4 hour mark easily. TIMELINE (SPOILERS AHEAD!): Prologue – 0:05 |
||
Resource Manager Complete the game without opening the Item Box more than 3 times. |
||
The “item box” is the big green box near cassette recorders where you can create manual save games. You will start seeing it after reaching the main house. There are 3 points in the story where you have to use the box and there’s no way around it. So you can’t ever use it aside from those forced story points. You’ll be using it at the following times:
In the game stats you can see how often you’ve opened the item box. A nice little workaround is to use the “Manage Items” option when you die during a boss fight. For example during the Mutant Jack Baker boss or endboss. Using “Manage Items” in the death screen does not count as an item box use (Credit to Sixation for this). With this trick the third item box use is optional on easy and normal difficulty, but on madhouse you will need weapons from the third box to destroy explosives on a ladder. |
||
Walk it Off Complete the game using only 3 First Aid Meds or less. |
||
This is easier than it sounds and should be combined with one of your easy difficulty playthroughs. The good thing is that your health regenerates a little bit over time. Just enough that you can take 1-2 hits from enemies before health starts flashing red again. Throw away all medkits you find. You can use 3 of them if you absolutely need it. Keep them for boss fights, such as Marguerite or Big Mutant Jack. In the game stats you can see how many meds you’ve used. Please note that Herbs count as meds/healing items in the game stats as well, so do not use them!
Steroids do not count as meds and fully restore your health (they are from cages where you can insert Antique Coins). Feel free to use Steroids, they won’t affect the trophy. |

Any plans on doing the statuettes/files/coins walkthrough?
PowerPyx says
Uploading right now. Gonna be available very soon.
iambecause says
Hey PowerP! First of all thanks for your guides+videos. I’ve been watching them for a long time!
So I have a question there, I did 2 runs, normal and easy for speed running, I’m missing all the collectibles trophies and the Madhouse, my question is : if I collected all the collectibles on Madhouse diff, will it count towards the easy/Normal trophies? Or should I do another run for it?
Thanks in advance
PowerPyx says
You need to do another playthrough on easy. The trophies for antique coins are tied to their specific difficulties, meaning finding them on madhouse will only unlock the madhouse trophy. Finding them on easy/normal unlocks the other trophy. So you have to do two collectible runs anyway.
It would be beneficial to get them on easy before starting madhouse. Then you’ll have additional items to block incoming damage which is very helpful for some bosses.
Henrique says
Collectables video could be separated in 2!
One for all Collectables on Easy or Normal (Statuettes, Files, VHS and Coins)
And one for all the Antique Coins on Madhouse.
PowerPyx says
Yup that’s exaclty how I structured it. Uploading now. The main collectible video will be up in 1-2 hours. The madhouse coin guide will follow tomorrow.
InSilicoRW says
How do you do it man? Like, one or two games a year I could understand but all the games you get done in such a short time?
PowerPyx says
Focus & Power of Will.
…and many all-nighters :D
Fawaz says
Does using herb will effect on walk it off trophy? Or not?
Kyle says
I just tested this theory and it does, indeed count as using a healing item.
Fawaz says
Thanks I tested to but what about steroids?
Kyle says
Steroids do not count.
Cobra says
I’m doing a blind playthrough, is the first ancient coin (the one in the tape) critically missable or there is a way later to backtrack it? (i’m near the wife boss fight i think)
thanks in advance.
PowerPyx says
If you missed it there’s no way to get it later. Can only be done at the beginning of the game.
Cobra says
thanks Pyx sadly sadly thanks ^_^
professorstotch says
Any plans on doing a madhouse playthrough video?
PowerPyx says
I have a video of the madhouse boss fights in the guide now. The rest is just running past enemies similar to the speedrun.
MisterBoye says
Do you know how to unlock Chainsaw with infinite fuel?
PowerPyx says
So far I only got a Circular Saw with infinite fuel. It’s from speedrunning the game in under 4 hours.
Brendan says
Supposedly, you need to beat Madhouse with all Coins, all under 6 hours. My source was some gaming site listing all unlockables; maybe Polygon or something close to the top of Google. The only reason I believe them at this time is because they CORRECTLY listed unlock requirements most other sites didn’t, like Circular Saw and X-rays being unlocked on a sub-4 hr run rather than ‘after your second playthrough’ many others listed.
Ash Redding says
Hi mate, firstly grats as I said on PST for the plat, second as always thanks for the guide.
Picking this up shortly & looking forward to having a good go at it.
Holden Zacharias says
Hey man, can you get the Get Me Outta here, Resource Manager and Walk it Off trophies on ng+? Also, Im assuming it doesnt, but does pausing the game stop the in game timer?
PowerPyx says
Yes you can get all 3 trophies in NG+.
And yes pausing the game (press Options-Button) does stop the speedrun timer.
Aenima says
1. Thanks alot for your uploads
2. Do I have to use the medkit after the first fight with mia early in the game – it shows that I should. And if yes – does it count for the max3 medkits trophy?
3. the herbs also give life – do they count?
Aenima says
ad2.: you don’t have to use it – found out on my own
whiteriver087 says
And the fight with Baker?He cut my leg and I have to use one medkit.
Deusmorte says
2 questions, Do I need to watch the tapes all the way through to get the achievement? Also can I spend coins and still get the coin collection achievement?
PowerPyx says
You can use the coins.
And I assume you do not have to watch the entire tape as my trophy popped immediately when inserting the 4th tape. I haven’t 100% confirmed this yet. To be safe I’d do the entire tape — they are very short anyway and needed for other trophies & collectibles.
The-Miracle0 says
Thanks for the guide.
Could you please tell me if i can use the Circular Saw in the MadHouse after i beat the game on easy mode?
Brendan says
Yes you can, ALL unlockables are shared through all future playthroughs: Circular Saw, Essence of Defense, X-ray Glasses, Walking Shoes, Albert-01R, etc, and I also assume Infinite Ammo works the same way, I’m not sure, but I do hope it has a toggle or is otherwise activated by carrying an item so that one might play again in the future with ammo restrictions.
Albert says
Do you know if you can use “herbs” for the “Resouce Manager” trophy? I remember in the old RE games…herbs were allowed not First Aid kits. Just a thought…
Albert says
Nvermind missed an above post stating herbs do count as a healing item towards the trophy ?
Holden Zacharias says
Would you recommend beating on madhouse (to get infinite ammo) before attempting the Resource Manager trophy? i’m almost done with my speed run to get the circular saw, then the madhouse, resource manager and madhouse pelican coin trophy is all i need.
Mike White says
Just got all my achievements thanks again man ur guides have helped me countless times really appreciate it eh
JDRoc says
Does your speed run video include the only using 3 or less medkits and the only using the 3 item box moments?
Jason R. says
No it doesn’t, he did the 3 or less medkits and 3 item boxes in his very first playthrough.
joshua vincenzo pourtarvirdi says
I’m experiencing a little bit of an issue where i’ve collected 7 antique coins but stats show that i’ve collected 6.. i’ve gone back to each location and nothing is there.. i’m assuming i’ll have to collect the antique coins in my easy speed run now.. anyone else experiencing this issue?
Meliusd says
Yo PowerP, i’ve been using your guides for a while now but never showed you the love for making them, so thanks a lot bro, for helping me get these platinums over the years. I got mad respect for all the effort you have been putting into these guides.
PowerPyx says
Thanks for the nice words.
And no problem at all, I love making these guides 🙂
Robert says
Hey PP. Thanks for another excellent trophy guide. I have been using your guides since 2011. I just got the Platinum on RE7 using your guide. I have a comment about the first fight with Marguerite in the Old House (when she tosses you into the pit near the crow key door). I think the Burner is the best weapon to fight her with as it kills her insect swarms effectively and also does decent damage to Marguerite. I tried using the pistol but it isn’t effective against the insect swarms and they can kill you quickly on Madhouse.
FAZ383 says
Regarding the remote bomb trophy, enemies will never grab you on easy mode to kill them with the remote bomb no matter how hard I tried. Easier way is to let an enemy pass trough bomb traps in the mines.
James Dixon says
Just to be pedantic, the whole 2x playthrough on easy, plus final on madhouse means you can’t stack essence of defense and secret of defense (because, if other guides are correct, you get the latter for completing the game on normal).
I only mention it because I’ve been getting my ass handed to me for two hours in the Jack Baker boss fight. Without the two stacked, you still take damage when you block (3 or 4 swipe attacks will kill you from full health, even if you block), which is making it very, very difficult. Because he’s, like, very fucking swipe-y.
Snake says
Hey man , I just got my platinum usin ur guide , thx alot for the effort you ve put into it ,
i was wondering if ur gonna make a ” banned footage ” trophy guide … i want to get my bar to 100% :D
coldphront3 says
I’m just wondering, is there a reason I’m overlooking as to why you recommend ending 1 for the easy playthroughs and ending 2 for madhouse? Doesn’t ending 2 add an extra boss fight with Mia?
Radvy says
Thanks man you’re guidance very useful for all games very special thanks ?
Brian P says
I always say I’m going to do a blind run through of a game, but always end up peeking at tips to find collectibles as I go.
My question is how many playthroughs does it take you to come up with this definitive list?
Just curious.
Thanks!
Erik Scott Williams-Whittla says
hey, I’m working on the madhouse pelican coin trophy. i have no got them all in easy mode yet. I just got the 33rd and final one but the trophy did not pop. does it pop right when you collect the last one? or does it pop when you get to the end of the game?
