Objectives:
- Find Ashley
Find Ashley
At the start of the chapter Ashley will no longer be with you, and you need to make your way around a large section of the castle to reach her. From where you start hang a left towards where you can spot a Merchant flame.
NOTE: There is a nest on the roof of the building you’ll enter just ahead. If you shoot this down it drops a Scratched Emerald. You sell this to the Merchant to complete the request Jewel Thief which you don’t actually find the note for until Chapter 12. You can shoot this down now and sell it and it does complete the request just fine, but this will also still be mentioned in Chapter 12.
Once you’re done with the Merchant follow the path left back into the castle and drop down into the next room. Take a look left through the curtains into the next room and you can spot an enemy on the balcony. This is the first time you’ll run into a Summoner, who will force other enemies to immediately turn Plagas after a certain amount of time. This will also happen automatically when you enter this room, though they won’t be aware of you immediately. There are a couple ways you can handle this room: one way is shoot the Summoner through the opening like the below image, killing them before they turn any of the other enemies. If you decide to move into the room, you can sneak around the right side and up the stairs, where you can drop a chandelier on a number of enemies to kill them instantly.
Key Item: Crimson Lantern
Whichever you decide to do, deal with the enemies in the room and go to where the Summoner died to pick up the Crimson Lantern, which you need to get through the prior room.
Treasure: Mirror with Pearls & Rubies
Before heading back, make sure to grab the Mirror with Pearls & Rubies from the chest behind where the Summoner was standing.
Head back to the prior room and interact with the statue on the left to place the Crimson Lanter, opening the door.
Head through and you can open the door on the right for a shortcut back, then follow the path down to the left until you reach a room with a cutscene.
Treasure: Extravagant Clock
After a cutscene you will be inside the “Bindery”. In here open the treasure chest by the fire to obtain an Extravagant Clock.
Lithographic Stone B, C, D
You then need to pick up the 3 stones and insert them on the door in the same room and place the stones as shown in image below. Note that you must place the correct stone in the correct slot. Each stone has 2 icons showing either a blue or orange icon, and either a square or hexagon around it. Match each icon to the correct color and square or hexagon around it. Left = Orange Helmet in Hexagon / Top = Orange Shield in Square / Right = Blue Sword in Square / Bottom = Blue Armor in Hexagon.
Key Item: Small Key
After the puzzle keep following the path ahead until you see something run along the wall ahead of you. Take an immediate left to pick up a Small Key from a cabinet.
Treasure: Brass Pocket Watch
Backtrack to the Bindery and use Small Key on the locked drawer to obtain a Brass Pocket Watch.
Head back and keep following the path, and after moving a cabinet out of the way you’ll encounter your first Plaga Arana. These enemies are infected by the spider-like Plaga that run around, causing them to attack relentlessly until you kill the enemy or shoot the Plaga off their back. The Plaga will also attack you too if there’s no enemy for them to attach to, but they don’t take a lot of damage.
Keep following the path to reach another Merchant, then destroy the counterweight to open the gate leading to the Battlements. In this area you’re going to be making your way all the way around the battlements to get back into the castle. To start, shoot the counterweight to the left of the bridge to lower it, allowing you to get into the next tower after dealing with the enemies.
This will be the first time you see the sun/moon switch which raises and lowers the gates in the area. Do not touch this first one at all, instead, go up the stairs to the left to the second floor, then drop through the hole back to the lower level and through the door on the other side.
Drop down into the next area and turn around and follow the path. After dealing with the few enemies keep hanging right to find another switch, this time you do want to pull it.
Keep following the path through a door that is now open, climbing the rubble on the other side. You then want to go left immediately and drop through the broken hole in the floor to the first level.
Treasure: Ornate Necklace
Turn around now and continue following the path past the two enemies, but don’t go up the ladder. Opposite the ladder is another door with a chest inside, where you can pick up an Ornate Necklace.
Now climb up the ladder to the second floor, then keep heading up the stairs until you reach the top floor. You’ll now have a giant throwing stones at your from across the way, which you can avoid by hiding behind the objects along the battlements. Don’t bother shooting at them, as they are covered in armor and you can’t do any damage with your normal weapons. To start, jump off the battlements back towards where you just came from to the east and climb the ladder on the outside of the tower.
Castellan 8
On the rooftop, deal with any enemies if they’re in your way, then circle all the way around to where there is junk in the way to find the Castellan.
Treasure: Emerald
Turn around head up the stairs to the center of the tower where you can find a chest that contains an Emerald.
Now jump back off the tower and keep heading west. There is a counterweight you can shoot to let you back into the previous tower, then climb to the top again and continue off the west side. Continue along the path until you reach a gap with two enemies on the other side, where you need to drop down to the lower level.
Turn around and go through the door, then pull the sun/moon switch in this room to swap the doors.
Treasure: Ruby
Drop down to the bottom floor through the now open door and turn around to enter the room behind. Look up to the ceiling to spot a metal cage which contains a Ruby.
When safe to do so, climb the ladder on the outside of the wall to get back to the middle floor, then go through the now-open door into the final tower where a cannon is located. There are two counterweights here you need to shoot, one on this floor and one on the floor above, which will raise the cannon to the top of the tower.
Climb up to the top and use the cannon to shoot the giant, knocking it off the tower so it no longer bothers you.
You then want to turn the cannon farther left towards the end of the battlements where you can use it to shoot a door you can exit through. If you didn’t earn Overkill in Chapter 7 you can do it here by shooting the enemies that are standing in front of the door.
You can then jump off the side of the tower and follow the path until the end of the chapter.
This finishes Chapter 8 in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
