Objectives:
- Head for the courtyard
- Look for another way around
- Objective 3
Head for the Courtyard
Treasure Map: Castle
At the very start of the Castle, enter the first door on the right to find the merchant. Buy the Castle Treasure Map from him, this marks all treasures on the map and adds a progress counter in the bottom right of the map.
This is also a good time to reassess your gear and make some upgrades. You can now buy both the Blacktail and Stingray, which are great upgrades over the prior pistol and rifle weapons (Blacktail will be useable for the rest of the game once you upgrade it fully).
Side Note: The Merchant will start offering “Exclusive Upgrade Ticket” for 30 Spinels from now on. This is a good time to get S-Rank on all 3 Mercenaries maps. This unlocks the “Handcannon” weapon, afterward buy it for 1000 CP in the Bonus Menu > Extra Content Shop. Then return to the story and retrieve it from the typewriter storage. Use the Exclusive Upgrade Ticket on the Handcannon to give it infinite ammo. Now you have an infinite ammo magnum that makes the rest of the game extremely easy and can also be used in New Game+. If you don’t have 30 Spinels yet just keep doing the next Merchant Requests until you have enough and upgrade the Handcannon then.
Treasure: Vintage Compass
Head out of the Merchant room and hug the right wall around the building. Around the back, you can find a chest that contains a Vintage Compass.
You can now follow the path into the castle. A few rooms in you’ll run into your first enemy and your first instance of a Plaga Mandibula. These infected spawn huge parasites from their heads instead of the small tentacle ones. This means they have slightly less range, but take a lot more damage to kill.
Weapon: Boot Knife
When defeated this enemy drops a Boot Knife, the first time you can find one of these. These are disposable knives like the Kitchen Knives, though much more durable so make sure to pick them up when you find them.
In the castle, you can also start finding breakable vases along with boxes and barrels. Make sure the break these when you see them for extra supplies.
Keep following the path ahead and you’ll reach an outside section. In this first area, there will be a bunch of enemies shooting crossbows at you. You can run ahead and avoid them, or hide behind the wall to the left and shoot them where they can’t hit you.
Follow the path ahead, and look to the left when you are on the stairs. You can look through the window and spot a metal cage with yellow paint on it. You can actually shoot this here which raises the cannon, instead of needing to go down into this room and then run back around. This is somewhat helpful in needing less running, but you need to be careful about getting hit by the catapults ahead while using the cannon.
Follow the path ahead, watching out for the catapult fire. There are a couple of enemies in the way, but you can deal with them while you are on the stairs as the catapults can’t hit you.
Go up the stairs and hug the right side so you rotate around into the building with no roof. There is one enemy in here to deal with, then you can use this spot to deal with some of the catapults. If you noticed during the prior scene there are actually red barrels near them, which you can shoot to destroy the catapults before getting to the cannon. If you look over the left wall (facing the cannon location) you can shoot a red barrel to destroy the catapult on the left.
Make your way over to the cannon now, avoiding the catapult fire. You can spot a red barrel on the far left catapult which you can shoot from here and save the wait on a cannon shot.
Same with the other catapult that can fire at you directly out from the cannon.
If you’ve dealt with those you should only have one catapult left, directly right from the cannon. Hop on and shoot it to destroy it. You can then shoot the castle gate directly left to open the path.
Trophy: Overkill (Use a cannon to defeat a zealot)
You can also use the cannon to shoot one of the enemies that are walking toward you once you activate it. It needs to specifically be the walking enemies, shooting the catapults (and consequently killing those enemies) doesn’t count. If you miss this here there is another spot in the next chapter you can earn it.
Merchant Request: Destroy the Blue Medallions 3
Go through the gate you shot open with the cannon. Behind it you find the blue request letter on the wall. We must shoot 6 blue medallions for this. Locations will be listed individually below.
Blue Medallion 1
Head back to where the cannon is and you can find the first one in the structure behind it.
Blue Medallion 2
In the window of ruins across from the cannon, when you stand at cannon look north to see it. If you are struggling hitting this or the next medallion you can also shoot them with the cannon.
Blue Medallion 3
Hanging at the wall just above the 2nd medallion.
Blue Medallion 4
Next to the cannon drop down to the room where the counterweight was located. The medallion hangs on the ceiling here in this room.
Blue Medallion 5
From last location, climb the next ladder and look left and down towards where you entered the area.
Blue Medallion 6
Follow the path and drop down back to the main area. Before going through the door ahead you can turn left to find the final medallion.
Treasure: Elegant Bangle
Directly to the right of the last medallion you can find a chest with contains an Elegant Bangle.
Once everything has been dealt with, head back through where you destroyed the wall and go through the doors back inside.
You can speak to the Merchant inside to turn in the request, then head into the main hall for a scene. You’ll now need to fight a bunch of enemies here to continue. This will be your first encounter with both wooden shield enemies, and metal helmet enemies. The wooden shields block some damage to the enemies, but as you shoot them they break, or you can shoot the enemy with a shotgun to immediately make them drop the shield. The metal helmet enemies prevent you from getting headshots, so you need to hit them in the body.
Once all the enemies are defeated you’ll need to make your way out of the hall. On the left side of the room, there is a spot you can boost Ashley up to open the door for you.
Treasure: Elegant Perfume Bottle
Go through the gate and turn right to find the chest at the end of the path which contains an Elegant Perfume Bottle.
Treasure: Ruby
Now squeeze through the gap, then turn left and shoot down a metal container from the ceiling to obtain a Ruby.
Look for Another Way Around
Key Item: Dungeon Key
Follow the path into the next area to enter the dungeon. Go through the door on the left to the end of the path, where you can obtain the Dungeon Key from a body.
Objective: Look for another way around
Trophy: Never Heard It Coming (Defeat a Garrador using only knives)
After picking up the Dungeon Key you will fall through the floor and encounter the first Garrador in the game. These enemies can’t see but can hear you, so when dealing with them you want to keep in mind that you can stealth around them. There is a trophy/achievement for defeating one only using knives, and this first one is the one you want to do that with as you are only dealing with them and no other enemies. The easiest way is to quickly run into the room with wooden walls before he breaks free, then crouch along the side of the room, watching out for the hanging chaings as they make noise when you walk into them. When he enters the room sneak up from behind, and when you get close you will see the / prompt. Backstab him, then move away while they’re swinging around and the second parasite disappears from their back. Repeat this until they die. Alternatively, you could also keep meleeing him head-on and just keep healing, but the stealth method is safer and useful on higher difficulties as well.
Once the Garrador is dealt with, crank the handle to open the gate and exit the room and follow the path back around to where Ashley is waiting. You can then use the Dungeon Key to open the middle door in the area and proceed.
Treasure: Spinel
Climb up the ladder to enter a storage room. Directly in front of you along the path you can find a Spinel sitting on a cabinet.
Castellan 7
To the immediate right of the previous item, and you can spot the Castellan sitting on top of the shelves in the middle of the room.
Key Items: Golden Sword + Rusted Sword + Iron Sword
Head into the next room to reach the Treasury, where you will have to complete a puzzle to exit the other side. First, you can grab the three swords from the slots on the wall.
Key Item: Bloodied Sword
On the left wall there is a large gate, with a string you can pull to the left of that. Pull the string, then shoot the 2 hanging icons displayed on the gate (Snake and Eagle are both on the right side of the room). Then the gate will open and you can pick up the Bloodied Sword behind. Now to solve the puzzle insert the swords on the frames in the following order from LEFT to RIGHT: Iron Sword, Golden Sword, Bloodied Sword, Rusted Sword. This opens the next door.
Treasure: Gold Bangle
In the next corridor, there will be a treasure chest directly in your path containing a Gold Bangle.
Head out into the next room, where you will now be on the upper level above the Audience Chamber. You should first head to the immediate right where you can kick down a ladder to the lower floor (though if you miss this Ashley kicks it down for you).
Treasure: Golden Hourglass
Now jump across the chandelier on the right, then turn right and drop down the hole to land in front of this treasure chest which contains a Golden Hourglass.
Climb back up to the upper floor again and you’ll need to deal with some more gongs to progress. Go close to the one by the left door and shoot it, then jump across the close chandelier and shoot the one close to that gate to open them.
Head through the big doors on the upper floor to reach Water Hall. Here you’re needing to move around the area dealing with enemies while opening paths to progress to the far side of the room. The enemies on the upper floor spawn for quite a while, so you can avoid them if you want and just focus on the objective and only deal with them when they are in your way. To start, head down the left side of the room where there is a ledge you can drop down to the lower level.
Key Item: Halo Wheel
On the lower level follow the path into the center of the area where you can pick this up from a statue.
You then need to take it to the right side of the room where there is a pedestal like the one on the floor above. Insert the wheel and crank it to lower the stairs, then you’ll automatically get the wheel back.
Head back up to the main area and watch for more enemies appearing, including ones who appear on the balconies to shoot down at you. When you are able use the wheel on the pedestal in the center to lower the next set of stairs to proceed to the next part of the room.
Head up to the next area and crank the wheel at the far edge to raise part of the bridge. You then need to boost Ashley up on the left to have her crank the other two wheels. While she is doing this enemies will appear to attack her along with you, so you need to make sure she stays safe. The enemies attacking Ashley take less damage than normal, so you mostly need to just be aware that they’re there.
Once both platforms are raised Ashley jumps back down and you can proceed to the exit. Boost Ashley over the ledge in the next area to complete the chapter.
This finishes Chapter 7 in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
