- Escape from the Village
- Flee from the villagers
- Defeat Mendez
- Escape from the slaughterhouse
Escape from the Village
At the start of the chapter you’ll be in a new area, unable to return to the rest of the Village. Follow the path ahead to find a Merchant where you can stock up after your fight in the house. When you’re ready, head through the gate into the next area. In this long section there will be a number of enemies you need to deal with, including some molotov throwers on the upper platforms. If you have the rifle you can shoot them from the entrance to the area without alerting the other enemies yet.
Head towards the area, and when an enemy notices you they’ll ring an alarm, alerting the rest in the area. Aside from the one standing near the entrance all the rest are located further into the area, so you can actually shoot them as they run down the center path toward you. There is one hammerless Brute along with them, but you should know how to deal with them by now.
Treasure: Yellow Diamond
After the enemies are dealt with you can head up the stairs on the left to find a Yellow Diamond in a chest at the top of the stairs.
Make sure to search around the area before continuing, as there are a number of supplies in the huts and hidden around corners. You can then proceed through the next gate.
Treasure: Chalice of Atonement
Enter the first house on the left where there will be a single enemy, along with a chest where you can obtain a Chalice of Atonement.
Castellan 6
Exit the building and continue slightly down the path. Look to the right where there is a bonfire, and you can spot the Castellan sitting to the right. . If you went into the Checkpoint area you’ve gone too far.
Now head into the Checkpoint area and make your way to the open part. The exit door is locked and needs a Crank to open, but you’re going to need to fight some tough enemies to get it. First, deal with the handful of enemies already in the area, then go up the stairs to reach the upper part of the main building. Go over to the locker and direct Ashley to stand inside it. When you do this she will wait inside the locker until you call her back and can’t be attacked by enemies, making the next section a bit easier because you don’t need to worry about her.
Treasure: Elegant Headdress
Go out to the door to the left of the locker and on the platform you can find one final alter for the Wayshrine Key, allowing you to obtain an Elegant Headdress.
Key Item: Checkpoint Crank
You can check around the rest of the area for supplies, then when you’re ready go to the lower floor of the building (by dropping down the stairs hole or through the locked door on the north side). Go to the south wall an you can spot the crank. Beware, interacting with this will spawn some powerful enemies, which you need to deal with to obtain the crank.
A pair of enemies, the Chainsaw Sisters, break through the wall to attack you, along with a number of normal villagers who start coming in the side door. The sisters are basically like the prior Chainsaw Villagers you’ve dealt with, just there are now two of them at once. If you’ve got any grenades in your inventory this is a good spot to use them, as you can toss them at them right when they appear and hit them both at once. When they’re defeated make sure to pick up the Checkpoint Crank which one of them drops.
When all the enemies are dealt with you can call Ashley out of the locker, then walk over to the gate to the south and use the crank to open it, then follow the path ahead to the next gate.
Flee from the villagers
After a scene, you’ll now be being chased by Mendez and a number of villagers. Don’t bother shooting Mendez or specifically worrying about Ashley, just turn around and start running down the path. If you have stun grenades they are very useful to toss here as they’ll stun all the villagers, allowing you to run around them.
When you spot the red barrel on the path ahead, shoot it to clear the group of villagers near it.
When you reach the end there will be two villagers blocking the spot beside the cart you likely need to shoot them to get by, then turn left and take the path past the cart to trigger a scene where you get away.
Follow the path after into the next area where you can find the final Merchant of the chapter. Stop and stock up, and you can now sell the Old Wayshrine Key as you no longer need it, alogn with any other valuables you have. You can then head up the stairs on the left of the building to proceed to a boss fight.
Defeat Mendez
You’ll now be fighting Mendez in a two-stage boss fight. For the first phase, he is walking around on the ground, so you want to climb up the ladder on either side of the area to reach the upper platform. He can still attack you up here, but he can only use the tentacles on his back with more telegraphed attacks so they’re easier to avoid. When you see a evade prompt make sure to quickly hit it to avoid big swings. Shoot down at him to damage him (shotgun is good in this part because of how close he is) then eventually when you deal enough damage he’ll be stunned and you can drop down for a melee prompt dealing increased damage.
After a while, he’ll enter the second phase of the fight, where his legs are gone and he is hanging from the rafters. When he is at the far side of the room he will alternate between throwing burning wood at you which you can avoid by running along the back of the platform, and attempting to throw explosive barrels which you want to make sure you shoot to damage him. After a few throws, he’ll move toward you and attack the platform with his arms, which you can avoid by moving to the opposite side. He will be stunned again sometimes during this phase and you can jump down for the melee prompt again.
Escape from the slaughterhouse
Key Item: Mendez’s False Eye
After Mendez is defeated make sure to pick up Mendez’s False Eye from his body. This isn’t counted as a treasure for completion but can be sold for a high amount of money so make sure you don’t forget it before jumping out the window.
Treasure: Emerald
After leaving the Méndez Boss area, shoot down the metal cage hanging from a tree, before you reach the car on the right. This is the final treasure of the village, so if you picked up all prior treasures you’ll earn the trophy/achievement Bandit .
Follow the path ahead to reach the castle and complete the chapter.
