Chapter 5
Escape from the church
Treasure: Yellow Diamond
At the very start of the chapter before going anywhere, turn around and enter the room where Chapter 4 ended. Shoot down the metal cage hanging from the ceiling to obtain a Yellow Diamond.
Walk back around the area and there will be a spot you can boost Ashely up where she will drop down the ladder so you can climb up, then jump out of the window to reach the outside of the church.
Head for the extraction point
Your objective is now to make your way back through the Village to the north side. To start making your way there, pull the cabinet out of the way that’s blocking the path to the front of the church.
Trophy: Talk About Near-Death Experience! – Rescue Ashley as she’s being carried away by the enemy.
You can earn this trophy whenever, but if you want to get it out of the way, let the group of enemies in front of the church go after Ashley. One of them should eventually grab her and pick her up. You can then shoot the enemy while they’re walking away so Ashley gets dropped, thus unlocking the trophy.
You can then make your way through the graveyard back towards the Village Square. You can fight the enemies if you like, or avoid them. There will be a few more that appear in the graveyard, but you can avoid most of them by cutting directly through the middle. They won’t follow you anymore once you reach the Merchant area.
Merchant Request: A Savage Mutt
On the wall next to the merchant outside Town Hall you can find this new request to kill a specific enemy that appears during this chapter. You’ll have to go through a few areas before the enemy actually appears, so this will be pointed out again later.
Treasure: Elegant Bangle
Head back to the Village Square, and go to the locked building in the northwest corner you’ve not been able to enter before. You can now interact with the yellow ledge on the side to boost Ashley up.
She will open the door letting you inside, where you can find a chest containing an Elegant Bangle.
Now make your way back to the Village Chief’s Manor to the south. Head upstairs to the bedroom where you originally found the Insignia Key. Interact with the crooked painting on the wall to remove it, revealing a lever. Pull this to open the attic hatch, where you can boost Ashley up to drop the ladder.
Castellan 5
In the attic hug the left wall and you can find the Castellan sitting in the side area behind a barrel.
Treasure: Antique Camera
Continue hugging the left wall around the attic and you’ll find a spot you can crouch under, then pick up an Antique Camera sitting on a cabinet.
A Savage Mutt (for “A Savage Mutt” Merchant Request)
Head back out and return to the Village Square and a unique Colmillos will appear. Defeat it to finish this Merchant Request. You can fight it basically the same as the prior dog enemies, it just has way more health. Sometimes it will be knocked down when you deal enough damage, allowing a melee prompt for more damage.
You’ll now need to make your way back to the farm, though your original path will be blocked by the collapsed tower along with some of the platforms around the house collapsing. You can either go through the final house dealing with the enemy inside or climb the ladder on the west side to reach the platform, then follow the path to the farm.
In the farm area there will be a bunch of new enemies to deal with, along with a Brute, though this time without a hammer so he just basically runs at you.
Treasure: Antique Pipe
With the enemies dealt with your can now go beside the second barn and open the wayshrine, obtaining an Antique Pipe.
Go into the windmill and make a stop at the Merchant on the right. This is the last time you can do anything in this area, so make sure you’ve grabbed everything you can (the Merchant prompts you on this). Head across the bridge towards the house at the end for a scene.
Stand your ground
After the scene, you’ll be in the house defending the area with Luis from enemies entering from outside. Enemies filter in through the windows, which you can block using the shelves, and the wooden planks you can pick up on the table (or are rarely dropped by enemies).
It would be recommended to place the first set of planks on the window by the stairs, then you’re worrying mostly about enemies coming through the window farthest away from the stairs. In this first part stick downstairs with Luis, who can mostly handle himself so you just need to worry about what enemies are near you. After a while, you’ll be shown a scene with ladders being placed in the upstairs window, along with Luis stating you should head upstairs. You should now go up and you can kick the ladders down, which temporarily stops the enemies coming up this way. They’ll put the ladders back up, but you can kick them down again each time and only deal with enemies coming up the stairs.
After a while longer you’ll be shown a scene of a Hammer Brute breaking in through one of the windows. When this occurs you are also done. You can deal with the Hammer Brute by letting them come up the stairs, then dropping down to the lower level over the railing so that they have to spend time walking around.
After a while longer a scene shows Ashley opening the door for you, completing the chapter.
This finishes Chapter 5 in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
