Talk to Uncle
The barn is up, and everything looks great. Time for an extended drinking montage.
- GOLD MEDAL: Complete the mission without taking any health items (guess you’ll have to suffer through the hangover)
When you come to, Charles tells you that Uncle has been kidnapped by Skinners! Follow Charles to Tall Trees.
Make sure that you equip your bow. Hide your horse where indicated, then follow Charles into the forest. Almost immediately you’ll run into two Skinners that haven’t seen you yet. Headshot one and Charles will take out the other. Or use Dead Eye and headshot them both!
- GOLD MEDAL: Get 5 headshots using the bow

Continue to follow Charles. He’ll stop when a three man patrol comes by. Stay crouched and they won’t notice you. You can try to take them out with headshots one at a time when they drift apart, but the chances are high that you might alert them.
Follow Charles again. This time you run across a Skinner wagon dragging someone. Move from cover to cover, following the wagon. When the driver gets down to pick up the body, put another arrow in his head.
Charles finally stops at a cliff overlooking the Skinner camp. Equip your binoculars to spot Uncle on a rack over the campfire.
At that moment, a Skinner gets the jump on you and Charles saves you with a throwing knife. As you get up, you try to warn Charles about the Skinner behind him but its too late. You automatically go into dead eye and your reticle moves slowly and automatically. Pull the trigger when you have a head shot.
Forget about stealth now, its all about surviving the ambush. If you still need bow headshots, use Dead Eye so that you can get a shot off before the Skinners charge at you. If you’re done with headshots, switch over to your pistols or a shotgun. It is about to be a target rich environment.
If you have Dead Eye available, don’t hesitate to use it if you are starting to be overrun. Skinners will be attacking you from all directions, and its easy to get surrounded.
Once you’re clear, Charles will cut down Uncle, starting the clock on the last gold medal requirement.
- GOLD MEDAL: After freeing Uncle, return to Beechers Hope within 3 minutes 10 seconds
Charles will carry Uncle to the horses while you provide cover. Stay ahead of them and kill anything that pops its damn fool head up.
Keep it up until Charles has Uncle up on the horse. Then get the hell out of there stat. Follow Charles back to Beecher’s Hope to end the mission.
This finishes Uncle’s Bad Day main mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. Now the next quest Trying Again starts.
Next Up: Trying Again

Orel says
Do the headshots not count in Dead Eye? Do they have to be free fire? On four attempts, now, I’ve watched an average of at least seven or so kill cams with my arrows going through eyeballs and the box never checks.
Orel says
Discovered that the headshots only mark after you’ve completed the mission. So you’ve just gotta trust that you bagged your five because the game won’t confirm it.
