Old Habits is the 92nd main story mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of Old Habits Main Quest including all Gold Medals for 100% completion.
Old Habits begins automatically after completing Farming, For Beginners and Fatherhood, for Beginners.
Quest Giver: N/A
Chapter: Epilogue – Part 1
Region: West Elizabeth
Gold Medal Requirements:
- Defeat the Laramie without taking a hit
- Defeat the Laramie within 25 seconds
Starting Location: Pronghorn Ranch, West Elizabeth
Investigate the Disturbance
Immediately after finishing both Farming, For Beginners and Fatherhood, for Beginners missions, this mission will immediately begin with the sound of gunshots in the distance. Follow the indicator on your mini-map until you find the source.
Looks like the Laramie boys didn’t get the hint the first time, and are terrorizing poor Abe by making him dance.
- GOLD MEDAL: Defeat the Laramie without taking a hit
- GOLD MEDAL: Defeat the Laramie within 25 seconds
Violence is the only language they understand, so you’re soon in a fist fight with their leader. The safest and fastest way to defeat him without taking a hit is to block his punch, then hit back with a three hit combo.
When you get him on the ground, keep beating on him until Abigail pulls you off him. She isn’t happy about you fighting and wastes no time telling you.
This finishes Old Habits main mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. Now the next quest Jim Milton Rides, Again? starts.
Next Up: Jim Milton Rides, Again?

I had some trouble with this for some reason. It took about ten attempts. Go all out at the start by spamming punch. When he falls down, stop spamming and move closer to start spamming again. With some luck, he won’t grab you, allowing the 25 second requirement.

Don’t block. Blocking counts as taking a hit just like that mission with Arthur fighting on the train. Just hit hit hit hit hit until you can do it perfectly without him hitting you. If he does happen to hit you, abandon mission via the mission log and try again.

Ah, yeah. Blocking doesn’t count as getting hit. I’ll go into why I recommend not blocking in my own post, but that statement is categorically incorrect. I blocked in all of my attempts getting silver and achieved the ‘…without taking a hit’ part without any issues.

Passable on replay: Yes
Passable from checkpoint: Yes
Ok, this one was super annoying. My recommendation is that you simply push straight towards the enemy once you get control and throw a haymaker to start, which will luckily usually connect. From there just throw an onslaught of punches as quickly as possible while pushing him back towards the building. Don’t bother blocking because it takes precious seconds away that could be better used bouncing your fist off the guy’s dome. Like any timed mission I did NOT skip any cutscenes, however if you get clipped, or end up being grappled, abandon and restart from the checkpoint (not the mission!).
Best of luck partner!

(PC) For this mission, blocking counts as getting hit. Dumb – yes. I’ve tested this a bagillion times and a block will not get you the first objective.
Only way is to quickly land a fast haymaker then follow up with a flurry of punches non-stop. Completely random. Just have to keep trying over and over until it goes through.
