Red Dead Redemption 2 has a neat little feature that the game doesn’t tell you about! In RDR2, you can put a marker anywhere on the map and have your horse ride there automatically without any input by you. This is a cool substitution for fast travel.
Here’s how to enable the automatic horse travel / autopilot:
- Put a waypoint marker anywhere on the map
- Sit on your horse and start riding on the road by holding down X (PS4)
/ A (Xbox One)
- Hold down the Touchpad (PS4)
/ View-Button (Xbox One)
to trigger the cinematic view
- Let go of all buttons. Your horse will ride to the waypoint automatically
Just make sure you are on a road and start riding in the correct direction when you do this. It won’t work when you’re not on a road! When done correctly, you’ll see the black cinematic bars at the top and bottom of the screen.
There is just one downside: when you get attacked by predators or enemies, your horse might throw you off. So keep an eye on the screen.

This is unbelievably helpful, thanks a bunch!
Dustin may be right, still.. I often don’t notice the games notifications or only when it’s too late and then wonder what useful hint i just missed.. and you can read back every word said by everyone during a mission but not these notifications..I might be wrong here again, but RDR2 IS a really complex game 🙂
