You may have heard all the fuzz around Project Mephisto at Gamescom 2018, particularly that it was announced as a Gamescom Awards Nominee.
What is Project Mephisto?
Project Mephisto was outed as “The Dark Pictures Anthology” by Supermassive Games, the same team that brought you Until Dawn.
Then what is The Dark Pictures Anthology?
It will be a 3 episode horror series based on urban myths. Each episode is about a different myth. The episodes are not connected in any way at all. You could play them in any order. They won’t all release at the same time. Each episode of The Dark Pictures Anthology will last 4-5 hours. So all together it will be 12-15 hours for the full series. The first episode is called Men of Medan and has something to do with a (ghost?) ship.
The choices in this game will seriously punish you. There are 5 teens as your characters and they can all die or survive until the end, which is very similar to Until Dawn. The devs say it will be the biggest branching Supermassive has ever created, only time will tell if that’s the case. Until Dawn overpromised on the multitude of possible endings when in reality the endings came down to the same dialogues and after a good and a bad playthrough you knew all that was possible.
It will have realistic graphics. Characters will be played by real actors with motion capture just like Until Dawn.
What Consoles does it release on?
PS4, Xbox One, PC.
When does it release?
The first episode is releasing in 2019, the exact date is unconfirmed. It’s being published by Bandai Namco.
