Leader’s Crest is an evolution item in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, it is used to evolve Bisharp to Kingambit. This guide shows where to find Leader’s Crest Location in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Leader’s Crest Location:
- Leader’s Crest is held by Bisharps that are protected by a group of 4 Pawniards (Bisharp’s pre-evolution form). You can find them randomly at Fury Falls between North Province (Area One) and North Province (Area Two). Only Bisharp that are surrounded by 4 Pawniards hold this item, see the image below. Using a Bisharp of your own, you must defeat a total of 3 Bisharp surrounded by Pawniard (who hold a Leader’s Crest) AND also level up once to evolve to Kingambit. It doesn’t matter if your own Bisharp holds a Leader’s Crest or not.
Leader’s Crest Evolutions:
In Scarlet & Violet you use Leader’s Crest to evolve the following Pokemon:
- Bisharp > Kingambit (While holding Leader’s Crest defeat any 3 Bisharp using your own Bisharp / Alternatively: Without holding Leader’s Crest defeat 3 Bisharp that do hold Leader’s Crest with your own Bisharp)
Other Evolution Items:
- Auspicious Armor
- Chipped Pot
- Cracked Pot
- Dawn Stone
- Dusk Stone
- Fire Stone
- Ice Stone
- King’s Rock
- Leaf Stone
- Malicious Armor
- Metal Coat
- Moon Stone
- Razor Claw
- Shiny Stone
- Sun Stone
- Sweet Apple
- Tart Apple
- Thunder Stone
- Water Stone

This crest is not needed for evolution. My bisharp wasn’t wearing one (I don’t even own one) and it stilled evolved. You need to defeat three bisharp that have pawniard with them and must use your own bisharp for defeating. After defeating three of them your bisharp needs to level up once.
I’m not sure if the method stated on this page really works and I’m confused why there should be two methods for evolving.

Very interesting find! We tested your method and it works too. So there are indeed 2 evolution methods.
What we had tested and confirmed is what it says here on the page: Your own Bisharp wearing Leader’s Crest and defeating any 3 solo Bisharp or group Bisharp (we tested it specifically with solo ones and they counted too). As long as your own wears a Leader’s Crest you don’t need to defeat the Bisharp in groups surrounded by Pawniard (can be any solo Bisharp, doesn’t matter). That’s how we tested it.
Now we tested your method too, using a Bisharp that DOESN’T have a Leader’s Crest and specifically defeating 3 Bisharp surrounded by Pawniard (that wear Leader’s Crest). It still evolved after defeating 3 and leveling up. Because we could replicate this on first try it seems this isn’t a bug and either way works.
We’ve updated this as an alternate evolution method here for Leader’s Crest and also on Bisharp/Kingambit Pokemon pages.
Thanks for sharing your method!

I’ve tried defeating solo Bisharp with mine holding the Leader’s Crest, and it’s not working. So far I’ve defeated 4, using nothing but my Bisharp, and leveled it both after 3 and after 4. Still didn’t evolve. Finally I tried 3 surrounded by Pawniard and that did the trick. Again, this is while mine was holding a Leader’s Crest. But I didn’t catch this one holding a Leader’s Crest, just gave it to it after. Might this have caused the problem?
PowerPyx says
In our testing it evolved after defeating a solo Bisharp (while own Bisharp had a Leader’s Crest). I’m not sure what the issue there is, maybe it has to do with the version Scarlet/Violet or Male/Female, or for some reason the Solo Bisharp in our testing held a Leader’s Crest and counted that way (but normally only pack leaders have it). Based on user feedback it seems the safest guaranteed method is to defeat 3 surrounded by Pawniard (regardless of whether yours holds a Leader’s Crest or not). I’ll update the notes here to say it’s best to kill only the ones surrounded by Pawniard, that should always work.

Guys so at sun-fall I’ve defeated 5 packs like 12 bisharp through out the day and I was 2000 points from level up too 62 no crest mind you and two bisharp encountered me together just 2 there was a neighboring pack behind them with a bisharp but they were in the background and after the second one defeated he leveled up and evolved into gambit and I got the coldest screen record as his evolution ended a monsoon starts ⛈ man that was cinematic and I will cherish this evolution all I have to say keep grinding your bisharp and have fun low sweep made this easy also if any observation? I wouldn’t break the chain and stick to only defeating bisharp.

Didn’t work for me. Killed three Leaders, leveled up, nothing.
I started with lvl58 female evolved from Pawniard.
But I also murdered bunch of other stuff in meantime.
Maybe it needs to be in succession? Or maybe gender-locked, on screenshot you got male? Or some silly hold-console-upsidedown or docked-only.
Do every “leader” carries Crest?
I used Thief on Bisharp surrounded by minions, and nothing happened. But it might be one of those items that can’t be stolen….
… half an hour of bad luck chuchking ultraballs later … (which gave me time to realize I should have just used Frisk…)
It appears Leader’s Crest can’t be stolen. I Thief’ed, got nothing, suffered through capture process, got Leaders Crest.
Then I equipped Leader’s Crest, killed 3 random Bisharps, feed it some candies for level up. Nothing.
Problematic situation.
PT says
It worked after:
Catch leader Bisharp (with Leaders Crest)
Teach it Brick Break from TM for faster kills.
Kill 3 leaders.
Rare Candy.
Evolution.
I have also tested same Bisharp on non-leaders before that, full level just from them, no evolution.
It has to be leader vs leader.
PowerPyx says
There are many contradictory reports on this and I’m not sure why. It could have to do with the gender.
When we tested it worked the following ways:
– Non-Leader (No Leaders Crest) defeating 3 Leaders = Evolved to Kingambit
– Leader (Has Leader’s Crest) defeating 3 non-Leaders = Evolved to Kingambit
– Leader (Has Leader’s Crest) defeating 3 Leaders = Evolved to Kingambit
It always evolved. At this point I think this is either buggy or a difference between Scarlet/Violet or something related to gender.
