Introduction

Welcome to the Phantom Blade Zero Trophy Guide! Phantom Blade is a fighting game with a mostly linear progression through 9 regions. You can rest and fast travel between the “Bells”, which function like Campfires in Soulslike games. Unlike Soulslikes, enemies do not respawn once you defeat them (so you can’t grind XP infinitely), and you don’t lose anything when you die. There are 4 difficulty settings but all trophies can be done on the easiest difficulty. You don’t need 100% collectibles for trophies, but it’s worthwhile to collect as much as you can to get stronger. You become stronger by finding collectibles that open up new skills for purchase (Sha-Chi Amber, Blackstones, and Memory Flowers), and by improving your weapons with materials you find throughout the world. You can still return everywhere after the story, but a few side tales (side quests) become missable when you advance the story too far. It’s best to finish all side tales as you go, before exiting a region. Also keep a manual save at the start and end of each region, in case you missed something you can replay from there. Scroll down the quest page in the Journal at the start of each region if anything got marked red as “failed”, if so you can reload the prior save. Talk to all NPCs you meet to get their quests. The trophy-relevant missable quests are outlined in Step 1, other than that you don’t need to worry about anything.

Step 1: Complete the Game up to the Mirage Estate

Play through the game normally and grab any items you find to become stronger. You’ll want to pay close attention to a couple of trophies that become missable early on. It’s also recommended to make use of the 20 manual saves. Keep a manual save from the start and end of each region – if you failed a quest you can reload the nearest save.

  • :bronze: Spectral Blade
    • Make sure to complete the first objective of side tale “A Severed Mindseal” in Region 1: Weeping Valley Creek before exiting the region. It’s unknown exactly when the trigger that fails the tale is, so best to do it at the earliest opportunity.
  • :bronze: The Healer’s Legacy
    • Make sure to complete side tale “Apprentice Healer” before defeating boss “Jing Ye, The Outlaw” in Region 2: Crimson Forest.
    • Make sure to complete side tale”A Healer’s Mercy” before defeating boss “Bai Chilian, Lady of the Twin Serpents” in Region 2: Crimson Forest.
    • Make sure to collect the story item “Flesh Lily” from boss “Hua, Deadly Betrothed” and give it to NPC “Yu’er” before defeating boss “Bai Chilian, Lady of the Twin Serpents” in Region 2: Crimson Forest.
  • :bronze: The Last of Baishan
    • Make sure to accept side tale “Secrets of the Baishan Sect” from NPC “Lanlan” in Region 2: Crimson Forest before defeating boss “Bai Chilian, Lady of the Twin Serpents” in Region 2: Crimson Forest.
  • :bronze: Together Till the End and :bronze: A Wanderer’s Honor
    • Make sure to accept both side tales “The Journey Home” and “Young Master Lan” in Region 3: Village of Lu and complete their first objective before entering Pangzhen.
    • Once in Pangzhen, it’s best to try to complete both tales as soon as possible.

Once you get the objective to enter Region 8: Mirage Estate through the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen, you can move onto Step 2 (this is near the end of the game).

Step 2: Complete True Ending Requirements

Once you get the objective to enter Region 8: Mirage Estate through the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen, you can start working on the true ending requirements, which is the only ending you need for trophies (the normal ending isn’t trophy-relevant). For the true ending, you’ll need to complete all of the tales with a purple icon in your journal. For all the required steps refer to the True Ending Guide.

Step 3: Obtain the True Ending

After completing all the true ending requirements, you can progress through the game until reaching Region 9: Mount Soulrend. From here, you can clean up anything you’ve missed from previous locations or clean up any of the other true ending requirements you’ve yet to complete.

After you’ve completed everything, you can go ahead and trigger the True Ending.

Step 4: Trophy Clean Up

After the final boss, you can resume the game in free-roam and return to all areas to grab anything you still need (except the missable trophy-related tales), or continue in New Game+ if you like.

Thanks for the guide!! Great job as always!
I have one question: If I follow your collectible guide in the exact order you recommend, are there any other missable trophies or specific things I should watch out for to avoid missing the platinum? In other words, are there any missable trophies I should keep an eye on while following the collectible guide?

The collectible guide will list everything required for the platinum in order. You will have to revisit certain regions after progressing past certain points or unlocking a new phantom edge that unlocks new exploration options as well

I’m glad you can play on any difficulty, and it doesn’t have any difficulty related trophies, because why make things more difficult than necessary unless you just like making things difficult so you can brag about it for some odd reason.

Thanks a lot for the guide. Only one question though—why is the estimated trophy difficulty set to 6? I’ve seen in previous discussions multiple times that the game is so easy even on normal that the estimated trophy difficulty should be a 2, isn’t that true? I really want a good challenge from this game.

A 2 would be crazy since that’d basically be the game playing itself for you, which it doesn’t. Most people forget that a 5/10 is the base average rating & I would say on Normal that the game is slightly above average difficulty to your regular games. & even on Easy I could still see people, especially those unexperienced with the genre, struggle on certain bosses for sure

Man.. why missables, i hate missables so much, was excited for no missables one play. Even some difficulty challenge would be better then missable, you planning to make some missable only guide? Like at what exact points we should be careful? Because it looks little messy now. Like i get to finish sides before going another region, but maybe would be helpful to say like after this main fight which is unimissable you must do this, so we would just write down what to watch for?

The collectible guides warn you of when the next action will make something trophy related missable. Usually related to defeating certain bosses & with entering the Mirage Estate being the point of no return for a majority of the missables.

I personally used the Saw Fiends & Scarlet Wraithblade for pretty much the entire game, with the Dread Axe & Hunter’s Chain Sickle for the Phantom Edges. Pretty much all weapons in the game I found were good & it mostly heavily depends on your playstyle, but I do recommend having at least 1 weapon/phantom edge that does heavy guard break damage for enemies with shields

The trophy “The Healer’s Legacy” for some reason didn’t appeared for me, even though i did exactly as described in the guide. Have no idea if it’s bugged or something else

Did you fully complete all 3 quest, including the bit of the Flesh Lily quest in Pangzhen?

    Thanks for the guide

Does the difficulty setting matter? I tried to lower from hard to medium difficulty and I couldent see any difference? Atleast not for the boss i was on. ( golden mask dude, second encounter)

This game is not as easy as some people say

    Thanks again

I personally haven’t tried the game on Hard so I’m not sure the differences there, but you can tell a pretty big difference between Easy & Normal

To be honest, I’ve always been curious about how you discover missable trophies. Do the developers tell you anything? Or do you go through various save file backups trying to track down every possible unfinished quest? The second option would be madness – doing that for every game without knowing what to look for.

Most of the time no, we just kind of figure it out ourselves & leave tons of backup saves to test stuff

Attention ya un bug sur la 2 ème quête apprenti guérisseur qui ne ce valide pas j’ai raté le trophée a cause de cela

Translation: Watch out—there’s a bug in the second “Apprentice Healer” quest; it won’t complete, and I missed out on the trophy because of it.

Is “leave none alive” tale, required for any trophies or true ending? I failed the quest somehow 🙁

No, it’s not required. It does reward you with 2 accessories, but there are more than enough in the game to get 30 that you can miss quite a bit.
