In Persona 3 Portable you must defeat Margaret for the One Who Has Proven Their Power trophy and achievement. This Margaret Boss Guide explains how to start the fight and best strategies to defeat her.
Margaret is the Sister of Elizabeth/Theodore and you can fight against her inside the Paradigm Door which opens on 1/1. Inside this door, you will find 12 other doors, which you all need to beat before Door number 13 appears where you can actually start the fight against Margaret. This fight will need a lot of preparation and there are some rules you need to follow or else Margaret will instantly kill you. The rules are:
Important
- Don’t have Omnipotent Orb Equipped on you or any Party Member you take with you (or Margaret will instantly kill you)
- Only use Armageddon Fusion Spell when Margaret’s health is below 10,000HP or you will get instantly get killed.
- Do not have any Persona with you that null, repel or absorb her attacks (or Margaret will instantly kill you)
- Do not use the Infinity item (or Margaret will instantly kill you)
- If you don’t deal 5,000HP Damage to her within one Phase, you will instantly get killed.
- Margaret has a total of 5 phases. Each phase lasts 10 turns.
- Phase 1: Turn 1-10 (She will only use physical skills against you in this phase)
- Phase 2: Turn 11-20 (She will use Negative Status Effects skills against you in this phase)
- Phase 3: Turn 21-30 (She will only use Elemental Attacks against you in this phase)
- Phase 4: Turn 31-40 (She will use Power Charge and Mind Charge on round 1 of this phase, then any powerful skills against you in this phase)
- Phase 5: Turn 41-50 (Here she will throw anything against you)
- If you do 5500HP damage on a phase, but only 4500HP Damage on the next phase, don’t worry, this is fine. You will still be able to proceed to the next phase.
- If you don’t get Margaret killed by Turn 50 you will get killed on Turn 51 no matter what you do.
- Margaret has a total of 30,000HP.
Requirements for this fight
- IMPORTANT: You and your party members need to be level 99 for this strategy used in this guide. This will give you 999 HP and 999 SP. Train your level inside Heaven’s door on floors 1-9. Those fights will get you the highest XP rewards.
- Equipment: Lucifer’s Blade (Male Character) or Vel Vel Muruga (Female Character), Ultimate Weapons for your Party Members, Armor of Light, Shoes of Light, and Divine Pillar ( DP reduces Damage you get by 50%)
- Party Members need to be Akihiko, Aigis and Yukari.
- Helel with Morning Star and Mind Charge
- Armageddon Fusion Spell
- a bunch of Homunculus Items
- a calculator so you can count how much damage you have done to Margaret (will be explained later)
How to reach Level 99
For this, you will need to do a lot of battles inside Heaven’s Door which is to the right of the stairs leading to Tartarus. The heavens door only appears if you reached floor 254 of Tartarus, defeated the Reaper once, and turned in Request 53 from Elizabeth / Theodore. Level 99 is needed because you get 999HP and 999SP, and your party members also if they reach level 99. The Heaven’s door is the fastest way to level up because the enemies in there give you the most XP. This step will take some time, but it is worth it. Remember to have Akihiko, Aigis, and Yukari on your side while leveling up.
Equipment
- Lucifer’s Blade (Male Character) or Vel Vel Muruga (Female Character)
- Ultimate Weapons for your Party Members
- Armor of Light
- Shoes of Light
- Divine Pillar
All equipment listed here is needed because it’s the best equipment for this fight since the weapons will do a lot of damage. And Divine Pillar will reduce the Damage you get by 50%.
Lucifers Blade (if playing as Male Character): You get this by fusing Lucifer with a Nihil Weapon. Nihil Weapons can be a drop from Golden Shadows in Tartarus on any floor. You can fuse the Weapon with Lucifer at Shinshoudo Antiques in Paulownia Mall.
Vel Vel Muruga (if playing as Female Character): You get this by fusing Kartikeya with a Nihil Weapon. Nihil Weapons can be a drop from Golden Shadows in Tartarus on any floor. You can fuse the Weapon with Lucifer at Shinshoudo Antiques in Paulownia Mall.
Ultimate Weapon for your Party Members:
Akihiko: You get this by fusing Mara with a Nihil Weapon. Nihil Weapons can be a drop from Golden Shadows in Tartarus on any floor. You can fuse the Weapon with Lucifer at Shinshoudo Antiques in Paulownia Mall.
Aigis: You get this by fusing Metatron with a Nihil Weapon. Nihil Weapons can be a drop from Golden Shadows in Tartarus on any floor. You can fuse the Weapon with Lucifer at Shinshoudo Antiques in Paulownia Mall.
Yukari: You get this by fusing Chi You with a Nihil Weapon. Nihil Weapons can be a drop from Golden Shadows in Tartarus on any floor. You can fuse the Weapon with Lucifer at Shinshoudo Antiques in Paulownia Mall.
Armor and Shoes of light: You can get those items by fusing Orpheus and Thanatos into Messiah, your Character needs to be level 90 for this. or else you won’t get Messiah. You only get one item per fuse, and it’s random what you will get. So be prepared to fuse those two Persona multiple times until you get both Armor and Shoes of light.
Soul of Athena for Aigis: You only get this by leveling up Messiahs up to level 98. To farm this, register a level 97 Messiahs to the compendium. If you don’t get the desired item, discard Messiahs and buy him again from the compendium and level him up.
Swan Legs for Aigis: You only get this by leveling up Messiahs up to level 98. To farm this, register a level 97 Messiahs to the compendium. If you don’t get the desired item, discard Messiahs and buy him again from the compendium and level him up.
Divine Pillar: For this, you need to fuse Alilat. You only can do this once you maxed out the Empress Social Link. Fuse Skadi + Gabriel + Mother Harlot to get Alilat. You will get Divine Pillar automatically into your inventory.
Try to get the Armor, Shoes, and Divine Pillar for all members of your party. This will cost a lot of money, but since you are leveling inside Heaven’s door you will also get a lot of money, especially if you loot all cases you come across inside the door.
Helel with Morning Star and Mind Charge
To get Helel you need to have the Star Social link maxed out. Then you can fuse Satan and Vishnu to get Helel. Helel will have Mind Charge already and will learn Morning Star on level 99. It is recommended that you boost the stats of Helel with Card items from Shinshoudo Antiques in Paulownia Mall. Select “for Card” and buy as many stat boost items as you can.
Armageddon Fusion Spell
The Armageddon Fusion Spell can be obtained from the Shinshoudo Antiques Shop in Paulownia Mall. This shop is available from 6/9 on. The Armageddon Spell is very expensive it costs x99 Malachite and x10 Ruby to get one Armageddon Spell. You can find those items inside the Tartarus, the Ruby Item is quite rare though. The Armageddon Fusion Spell deals 9999 Damage guaranteed to all enemies. But you can also get it from the Hanged Man door inside the Paradigm Door (available from 1/1). During the fight, you need to let the Hanged Man spawn a Maya and cause an explosion. Now just finish the fight and you will get an Armageddon Fusion Spell.
Homunculus
Homunculus protects any party member from an instant-death attack once. The item is automatically consumed, you don’t need to do anything. Homunculus can be found randomly in Treasure Chests inside Tartarus from floor 17 up until floor 261. At least 10 are highly recommended for this fight.
Calculator
This isn’t a joke, you need a calculator to subtract the damage. Margaret has 30000 HP. And because you have to use the Armageddon Spell when she has 10000HP, it is very important to take note of the HP or else Margaret will instantly kill you.
Now that you have everything, make sure to Equip Helel. Also make sure you have some healing items that give you HP and SP, at least 15x of each. The battle can now start.
To get to the fight, you need to enter the Paradigm door on the left side of Tartarus, enter and beat all enemies behind Door 1-12, then Pandora’s Door will appear in the middle where you fight against Margaret.
Margaret Boss Fight Strategies
When starting the fight, go to tactics first and do the following settings.
This is needed, so you can use Akihiko as a healer, and the other two as Damage Dealers.
Phase 1: Turn 1-10 – She will only use physical skills against you in this phase
All you have to do with your Character is use Mind Charge, then next Turn Morning Star. Rinse and repeat. With Akihiko either heal the party if needed or attack Margaret. Use the Calculator to subtract the Damage you do to Margaret.
Phase 2: Turn 11-20 – She will use Negative Status Effects skills against you in this phase
All you have to do with your Character is use Mind Charge, then next Turn Morning Star. Rinse and repeat. With Akihiko either heal the party if needed or attack Margaret. Use the Calculator to subtract the Damage you do to Margaret.
Phase 3: Turn 21-30 – She will only use Elemental Attacks against you in this phase
All you have to do with your Character is use Mind Charge, then next Turn Morning Star. Rinse and repeat. With Akihiko either heal the party if needed or attack Margaret. Use the Calculator to subtract the Damage you do to Margaret.
Phase 4: Turn 31-40 – She will use Power Charge and Mind Charge on round 1 of this phase, then any powerful skills against you in this phase
All you have to do with your Character is use Mind Charge, then next Turn Morning Star. Rinse and repeat. With Akihiko either heal the party if needed or attack Margaret. Use the Calculator to subtract the Damage you do to Margaret. In this phase, you may have Margaret below 10000HP. Use the Armageddon Spell now.
Phase 5: Turn 41-50 – Here she will throw anything against you
All you have to do with your Character is use Mind Charge, then next Turn Morning Star. Rinse and repeat. With Akihiko either heal the party if needed or attack Margaret. If you didn’t finish here in Phase 4, now you have to do it or else she will instantly kill you on Turn 51. Once Margaret is below 10000HP, use the Armageddon Spell
Congratulation you have beaten one of the hardest enemies in P3P-

I fused alilat but i didnt get divine pillar automatically 🙁
Dole says
Alilat will give you divine pillar after he learn it`s last skill. Just grind EXP in Tartarus/Heaven`s Door

I have a question – Why Shoes of Light when you suggest Divine Pillar?
Shoes of Light provides 140 evade and Mag/Phy evade, but Divine Pillar disables evade. Why not something else like Hallowed Boots which +stats? If Shoes and Armor of Lights provide the same kind of bonus (I mean both evade & resist Magic, or Physical), resist will override evade, let alone Divine Pillar. Shoes of Light will do absolutely nothing there. Thank you.

I have completed Persona 3 main game, Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, and Persona 5. Reading through this…Margaret makes those end bosses look like a walk in the park. And Nyx’s Avatar was a snore fest. Extremely underwhelming. I never even had to prepare this much for Kagutsuchi. I didn’t level my Star Arcana so I can’t make Lucifer. And my save is too close to Jan. 31st to make those weapons. Might have to do it on NG+.

Can you use orpheus telos with those skills instead of helel
AJ Chimaera says
I was wondering that myself… I guess the goal is that Morning Star is super powerful and not subject to elemental resistance, and cannot be learnt by anyone else. But I’m curious whether the amped + boosted + charged thunder reign would do just as well. Might try it and find out.
AJ Chimaera says
OK I did use Orpheus Telos but the fact it had High Counter from my Elizabeth fight made the first phase misery, as she kept healing the reflected damage… So either unlearn that or use a separate physical persona, preferably with Gods Hand and Pralaya to complement your slash main weapon, as she alternates weaknesses.
I opened with Thunder Reign though, because before she takes her first turn she won’t block it, and the Shock sets her up for crits from everyone else. Then it was just abusing the rotation of skills to hit her with what hurt through the physical phase, alternating debuffs, buffs, and healing when needed. But I did almost 10K in just the first phase.
Once she swaps to the 2nd phase, the best thing to have happen is to get poisoned, because she won’t apply any other debuffs to you, and you can easily heal off the damage. Then just use Thunder Reign to apply shock, crit with everyone else on their turns, and just heal if needed. I didn’t even waste turns debuffing or buffing. Never saw phase 3, she was within Armageddon range in no time.
