Shrine 1
Start out going down the path from the shrine, and then up the stairs to the left. Kill the first Dweller, then keep going up the stairs to the left to find the second. At the top, you’ll find an Ubume walking back and forth. Kill it, then go over to the other side and kill the Aberrant Soldier. Drop down the ledge and look immediately left to find Kodama #1.
Continue down the path and go around the corner to the left first to find a large Dweller then an item at the top. Then take the right path going down to the lower area. Down on the lower level look up on the balcony and shoot the Dweller there first before alerting the Snowclops, because if you don’t it’ll throw bombs down at you. Go across the bridge and there will be on Aberrant Soldier wandering this first square to deal with.
Look to the front of the building and you should see one more Soldier and a Tengu walking around. Try to shoot the Soldier first to get it to come over to you, then deal with the Tengu by itself. Before going into the middle of the building go over near the bridges and push down the tree so that you can get back here quicker from the shrine.
Still don’t go into the middle building yet, instead head over to the right where you should see another Aberrant Soldier walking around and a ladder to the left. Watch when you grab the nearby item as there is a Nure-Onna on the ceiling above it. There is also a water-filled hole to the right that a Dweller will pop out of, you’ll come back over here later. Go up the ladder, then walk all the way around the balcony to find Kodama #2.
Go back up the ladder and this time go into the door leading inside the building. On the left you can find a Sudama to interact with, and on the right you can go into the main room where there is another of the giant Amrita shards like in the prior mission. To the left on this balcony is a small chest, and to the right a Scampuss. If you look across to the other side you should see one Dweller which you should shoot, and a Nure-Onna moving back and forth down the hallway. Below in the crystal room there should only be an Aberrant Soldier to deal with if you already kill the other enemies outside. Get a drop attack on the Soldier, then destroy the crystal. When you destroy the crystal be sure to not fall in the hole below it.
Pick up the items dropped by the crystal and you will get a Dragon God Jewel. Take it back over where Mumyo was, and beside her is a dragon statue. Interact with it to place the ball in its mouth, which will cause the water level in the area to drop.
Now you want to head back over to the hole on the right side of the area you might have noticed earlier. Kill the Dweller that pops out, then do a drop attack into the hole to land on a Lesser Umi-Bosa. Now on this level do not drop down the second hole. Go clockwise to grab an item, then counterclockwise watching for a Dweller to pop up, then grab Kodama #3 beside the railing.
Now you can drop down the hole as seems intended, or drop off the edge onto the lower section of the rooftop. I’d recommend going back around this red walkway clockwise then dropping down the other side, where you will find another Lesser Umi-Bosa. Continue around and you can spot a Dweller in the corner, and an Aberrant Soldier down on the path to the right. Continue forward and there will be a door leading into the Darkness Realm inside. Watch in the hallway for an Ubume that is walking back and forth.
The left end of this hallway has a locked chest, so go in the other direction. Just ahead there will be a Dweller walking around on the platforms and a second on the right side, then a Snowclops on the lower floor which is controlling this Darkness Realm. Kill the Dwellers first, then try and land a drop attack on the Snowclops to deal a good amount of damage on your way down. When it’s dead, grab all the nearby items and take the ladders up two floors, making sure to grab the chest on the first floor which will contain Ninja’s Locks.
At the top of the ladder first go to the left and climb the ladder outside. In the next room grab the chest on the left, then trigger the Yokai Fog in front of the door to spawn a Tengu. Go through the door, and this actually gets you back to the first crystal room. Drop in the hole here now to find an item, then carefully drop down again and you are back in the room where the Snowclops was, which allows you to get this chest and the one back down the hallway where the Ubume was too. Go down the hallway in the other direction to the end to find an Aberrant Soldier by an item. Go outside on the roof all the way around to find another item and a large Dweller, then go over near the back edge and drop down one level to get to where the Kappa is. Go in the nearby window and you will be back in the Snowclops room, where you should climb both ladders again.
At the top of the ladder this time go straight forward and outside to where you will see the paths going in and out of the cliff face. Follow them both around, killing the Dweller on each path and the Umi-bosa in the middle. At the end of the second path drop down to where the second Dweller is and then go left after killing it. At the end of the path you will see another Amrita shared with a Nure-Onna beside it, and an Aberrant Soldier down on the right. A fun trick you can do here is destroying the shard first while avoiding the Nure-Onna, and it will kill both enemies automatically when it’s destroyed. Pick up another Dragon God Jewel dropped by the crystal, then go down near where the Aberrant Soldier was to find a Nurikabe, behind which you can find an NPC Benevolent Grave and an item. Continue forward off the cliff and interact with the statue in front to lower the water again.
Drop down off the right side of this platform and you will find a Sudama, then go down the steps to reach Shrine 2.
Shrine 2
From the shrine, go down the steps to the next area. This central tower is where you will spend most of the rest of your time here, because it’s basically a large maze and has bridges you need to move around like in a prior mission. On the first level you have an Aberrant Soldier to your right, and a Namahage on the left. Lure the Soldier over first and kill it by the shrine, then you have more area to deal with the Namahage. In this first tower go to the left out onto the branch walkway. Kill the Dweller and grab the item, then go into the nearby tower and kill the Ubume that spawns from the Yokai Fog.
Grab the nearby chest, then run around the outer balcony of this tower to find Kodama #4.
Go back to the central tower and go down the stairs on the right side, dropping down into the room and killing the Dweller by the table and looting the small chest. Go through the bridge in the middle, then look up at the ceiling on the left and shoot down the Nure-Onna that is there. Kill it, then go into the room it was in to find Kodama #5.
Follow the bridge onto the large platforming, being aware of the third Dweller just to the right that you can’t see until you trigger it. Climb the ladder, then go into the building in front of you, killing the Soldier. Go through the building and up to the ladder, then you will come to a platform with a Snowclops and another crystal. Similar situation as the last one, if you can manage to destroy this crystal it will instantly kill the Snowclops and you don’t have to deal with it yourself, so you can attempt to do that if you want. Whichever way you managed, grab the Dragon God Jewel dropped from the crystal after it is destroyed.
Go into the building opposite the one you came from, watching for a Nure-Onna on the bottom floor. Go into the next room and behind a small square wall you can find Kodama #6.
Immediately left of that Kodama you can find another Nurikabe wall. Climb it and you can get up on to the rooftops to grab another item, and find another Sudama on the front of the building you were just in.
Go back down and out into the main area. On the platform up to the right there is an Ubume and a Scampuss you can interact with, but to progress you want to go to the statue in the center of the area and insert the jewel to drop the water level once more. Drop down one level then head over to the right, where there will be a large open platform with a Yokai Fog that spawns a Tengu.
Kill the Tengu then go up the bridge on the back of the platform. Follow the path around through the Soldier, then go up the other outer tower on the right. Don’t go into the second building where the compass is pointing you to as that’s the boss room. Instead go down the cliff to the left where you will find a Snowclops by a chest.
Go down to the other side of the platform and look down, you should see a walkway below you. Drop down into a Darkness Realm, and you can now go left or right. Go right first towers the Kappa, then continue past it. You will come to a platform with a chest, a Soldier, a Nure-Onna, and a Dweller on the left behind the pillar. Shoot the Soldier first to bait him over and kill him away from the platform, then move in and kill the other two.
Continue down the path behind the Nure and you will be in the tower, then go into the middle. On the bridge if you stop and look out there will be a Namahage sitting on the ground. This enemy controls the Darkness Realm, and is blocking your way to a lever you need. I’d advise shooting it first in the head while it’s stationary to get a lot of damage in, then carefully deal with it inside the tower rooms instead of moving back outside. Before doing anything look out the door just to the side to find Kodama #7.
Go inside and pull the lever in that room, which will rotate the bridges in the tower. Go into the next rooms, making sure to grab the chests as one will have Onmyo Mage’s Locks. You can go back around the stone path to the left through an Umi-Bosa and the Soldier to get to the second one, and run all the way back to the platform where the Nure was to get the third. Now drop off the stone path to the right of where you were, and follow the root path back up to the top floor of the tower.
This time go inside the tower, then around to the side and drop out of one of the doors to get to the middle bridge. from there go to the left, and you will come to the Hot Spring for this level.
Staying on the balcony you can drop off a broken part onto the root bridge just below. Run all the way up this to get to Kodama #8 and back to the top floor of the tower.
Drop off the side of the root path and you are back in the central area. You should stop at the shrine right now to heal, because there isn’t another one in this level since the path here is a 15 second run to the boss room. When you enter the next area turn immediately left to look in the corner where you will find Kodama #9, the final one for this level. After that, you can kill the Dweller on the right if you want, then go through the door.
Shuten Doji Boss Fight
Shuten Dojo is a big Yokai boss that uses a sword and fire element. He does a lot of damage per hit but is slow and gets drunk throughout the fight. When he’s drunk he’ll tumble and you can do a free death blow on him.
You’ll want to Burst-Counter his red charged attacks. One of them being a grapple (dangerous if your timing is off), the other being a flame from his mouth (less dangerous). After a successful Burst Counter land a good combo on him.
Between his combos you have a few seconds to attack. He tends to need quite long to recover before starting a new attack. Try to attack him from behind for double damage.
When he uses sword attacks, either walk backward out of his reach, or if you want to be more aggressive dodge forward left in a 45° angle just before his blade hits you. Thereby you’ll dodge through his blade without it hitting you, and you can land a counter-hit on him.
When he sprays fire on the floor don’t get burnt. Be sure to have a few Rejuvenation Talismans (Onmyo Magic Skill) to heal yourself throughout the fight. These are like having extra Elixirs. And as usual get all Kodama in this mission to get a bonus Elixir on respawns. Steel Talisman also comes in handy to reduce incoming damage for some time.
This finishes The Mausoleum of Evil main mission in Nioh 2. Now the mission The Golden Castle becomes available.
