The High-spirited Demon is the 15th main story mission in Nioh 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all areas of The High-spirited Demon Main Quest.
The High-spirited Demon is unlocked when you complete The Two Faces of Hospitality.
Recommended Level: 84
Region: Twilight
Requirement: Complete The Two Faces of Hospitality
Reward: Demon’s Maw, Primordial Mud x1, Biwa Pick x1, Spirit Stone Arm x1, 24000 Gold, 32112 Amrita
Shrine 1
Right from the start of this mission you will have Mumyo with you in your party. Before walking forward, turn around and look behind the wooden frame by the stairs. There will be Kodama #1 just behind it. Then go forward to the first Shrine.
You should notice pretty immediately that this mission is in the same location as the previous mission, you are now just going in reverse basically. Start heading down the hill and you will run into a Skeleton on the ground, and an Aberrant Soldier walking back and forth on the path. Kil them, then grab the item to the left and look off the edge of the cliff, where you can time your drop to do a drop attack on the Yoki below you.
If you look off the side of the ledge to the lower area you should see a large yellow pulsing crystal. These are the Amrita shards you need to destroy in this mission for the trophy Clean Sweep, which this is the first of 6. They function like the fire/ice element ones in prior levels and need to be attacked with melee or other very high damage means because they heal damage and take barely any from ranged attacks. Head down to the area below and kill the next Yoki, then watching for an Aberrant Soldier that will drop down too.
Start moving forward into the Darkness Realm, watching for a Tengu that is walking back and forth inside. Shoot it to get it attacking you and walk it out of the Darkness Realm for an easier time dealing with it. Go into the Darkness Real further to kill a Skeleton on the right, then a new enemy in the hut that is controlling this area.
This new Yokai is called a Magatsu Warrior. These Yokai attack using their four swords and with waves of energy flung towards you. If you get behind or beside them they can spin rapidly in a circle to hit in all directions around them. If they wind up a Burst Attack they will rush towards you will flailing their swords around them. If you hit them in the back enough where the spirit stones are sticking out it will weaken them and knock off their top pair of arms. Once this enemy is dead go back through the house it’s in to get to Shrine 2.
Shrine 2
The path directly forward from Shrine 2 is actually just a shortcut, so we’ll go back through the prior area grabbing items as well now that the Darkness Realm is gone. First hug the wall going left to find a gate that you can now go through, and proceed down the corridor to find a Yoki wandering around a tree and an Aberrant Soldier on the right. Go forward through the gate, and in the left corner of this square area grab Kodama #2. Do NOT go through the gate on the right yet, as it goes to a midboss.
Go back to Shrine 2, and this time go up the ramp in the middle of the area to where you will find another Yoki wandering around. This one is new in that it wields a cannon and a single sword, so if it spots you from a distance it will try to shoot at you. Watch to the left of it as there is also an Axe Skeleton sitting on the ground. When they are both dead, push over the nearby burning tree to get over to Crystal 1 of 6, and destroy it. Note that the pulses from the shard damage you if you are standing close when they go off, so move back when they are about to so you don’t take too much damage from it.
Go back over to the area before where the Yoki was and continue to the end. Go off onto the rooftop on the right, and just in the corner, you will find Kodama #3.
Now there are a few places you can go. I would first recommend dropping down (watching for another Axe Skeleton in front of this house) then going through the one up the hill. On the other side you can find a lowered area which will now have the Kamaitachi wandering around in it that you saw in the initial cutscene for this level. It will fight in basically the same way as it did when you fought it earlier in the game as a main boss, but it will take much less damage and you have Mumyo helping you out. Kill it, then destroy Crystal 2 of 6 to exit this area.
Just on the left past the crystal there is a Sudama you can interact with. You can then head up the hill and cross the fallen tree with the Aberrant Soldier on it. You will immediately enter a Darkness Realm, which is controlled by the next crystal in this area. Hug the left wall first so you are away from the entrance, because what you will want to do here is shoot the Biwa Boku-boku that is in the middle of this area with it’s back to the crystal, else it will force summon Revenants that are in the middle area.
With it dead, there will only be one Aberrant Soldier in here on the left that can see you, then Crystal 3 of 6 to destroy in the middle. Shoot the Soldier from outside to instantly kill it or draw it towards you if you can, because there is another Magatsu Warrior on the left that would be much easier to deal with with the Darkness Realm gone.
In this area you can now open the gate behind where the Magatsu was standing and kick down the ladder to get a shortcut directly from Shrine 2 to the midboss ahead. Before going to it though, go clockwise around this area to a dead end, to find Kodama #4 behind a wooden barrier. You can then go heal at the shrine if needed, then proceed through the other gate to get to the midboss.
Hachisuka Koroku Boss Fight
Hachisuka Koroku is a human mid-mission boss who uses a Kusarigama for weapon and water elemental attacks. If you played Sub Mission ‘The Shiftling’s Wise Judgement’ you will already have fought him once before but he was much weaker then and had a different move set.
This time he’s much more agile and has learned new moves. Luckily, single hits of the Kusarigama don’t do a lot of damage. By dodging backward you can evade all of his combos. Between his combos you can land a few quick hits on him (mid-stance recommended as it’s better for dodging than high-stance).
One move you can exploit against him is when he jumps up in the air, throws his Kusarigama on the ground, and then pulls himself towards you. Just dodge to the side, then attack him for a few seconds from behind. This attack is super easy to dodge and he’ll stand around defenseless for quite a long time afterward. If you want to play it safe you can just outrun everything else and attack after nothing but this move. When he goes into Dark Realm mode he gets a bit more aggressive. If you don’t want to deal with it just outrun him for a minute and he’ll leave Dark Realm. To stretch out your Elixirs for longer, bring a couple of Rejuvenation Talisman (Omnyo Magic) to heal yourself.
Overall a fun boss that looks like Aquaman, does little damage, and has little health.
Shrine 3
From Shrine 3 head down the path to the right. You can speak to Mumyo twice and she will give you an item, but won’t come with you again for now. Go into the next area, and watch up to the left and you should see what looks like a large monster with a house on it’s back. In this area it will continually shoot balls of enegy at you, but there isn’t anything you can do to make it stop so you just need to avoid it for now. You can hide behind the rocks and the wooden barriers, but the barriers will break after they are hit once by one of the energy attacks. Kill the first Skeleton, then go over to the right where you will see a Yokai Fog in front of a door. Kill the Magatsu Warrior that comes out, still watching for the energy attacks from the big guy behind you. You can get the shots to damage the enemies in this area, but they need to hit almost exactly on the feet of the enemy to damage them.
When that Magatsu Warrior is killed, go through the gate behind it and follow the path. On the right you will see an NPC Benevolent Grave and an item spot where you can find Ninja’s Locks. Continue forward and you will come to a house rooftop. Carefully drop into the hole in the top, to find Crystal 4 of 6, and the Hot Spring for this level.
Exit the door in this building and you will be on the lower level of this area, and need to get to the end. The guy above will still be shooting at you, so make sure to hug the right wall if needed or hide behind stones or structures. There is an item on a body hanging out on the edge of the area by itself that you can grab before progressing that will have an Onmyo Mage’s Locks on it. In the next area after you cross the fallen tree there is another Biwa Boku-boku, and here you are basically forced to deal with the Revenant that it force spawns as you can’t get an angle to shoot at it before actually going near it. There is one Revenant right beside the tree that you should have spawn, then run back across the tree and fight in the prior area. This guy is pretty easy to bait into the shots from above, which will knock him to the ground allowing you to get a grapple attack in. Once you’ve dealt with that first one you can shoot the Biwa from just past the wood wall to kill it so it doesn’t summon the other Revenant.
Head up the path, watching for the Aberrant Soldier in the tower above you. There is also a chest in the building to the left that you can you can open. Just to the left of the guard tower there is a Scampuss you can interact with, then proceed forward. This next area is a Darkness Zone, controlled by the crystal in the middle. Bait the Yoki out first and fight it in the area by the guard tower, then go in and destroy Crystal 5 of 6. You can go into the nearby building for a chest, and the shortcut back to Shrine 3.
Look into the next area and there will be a Mezuki wandering back and forth. Kill it here, but then don’t go towards the right yet where the radar says to go. You can run back to the shrine quick to heal if you need, then head to the left across the bridge where you can grab and item then open the gate at the end if you for some reason need to get back there. Now you should walk down the log into the lower area with the trees, where you should see three Kappa. There will be two just near the entrance, a normal and red, then another red wandering around at the far end.
Kill the Kappas and grab the nearby items, then go over near the tree at the back of the area to find Kodama #5.
You can heal at the shrine again if you need, then this time take the path leading through the gate to the right. Going up the path there will be a Skeleton walking towards you, a blue Yoki in the small side area midway up, and an Aberrant Soldier at the top that pushes a boulder down towards you. When you reach the Soldier watch out on the right side, as there is an Axe Skeleton that will push another boulder down towards you.
Continue up the hill more, and there will be a Magatsu Warrior ready to push down a third boulder, along with a Red Kappa hiding in the nearby bushes. When they are dealt with turn around and there will now be a hole in the wall. Go into this room where you will find Kodama #6, the final one for this level, and Crystal 6 of 6, which will award you the trophy Clean Sweep after you destroy it.
Now you can head all the way up the hill to the top where you have nicely been given a fourth shrine the rest at, then enter the doors to go to the boss room.
Daidara Bocchi Boss Fight
Daidara Bocchi is the biggest boss so far, it’s a giant Yokai as big as a mountain. The way you win the fight is by destroying the yellow amrita shards on its hands. Only attack those and nothing else. Each shard you destroy reduces the Ki bar (purple stamina bar) of the boss. You can also mix it with some shards from his left and right hand (doesn’t have to be all shards on one hand). When his Ki is depleted you can run up his arm to stab him in the head. Repeat until he’s dead. In total there are 3 phases. In the third phase he also grows shards on his arms which you must destroy too, then he drops his head on the ground and you can perform the final death blow to finish the fight.
The spear in mid-stance with quick attacks comes in handy here. It’s a sweep that will hit 3 or more crystals at once. Always do 3-strike combos with this (3 hits on 3 crystals each time = 9 hits). This way you can destroy the crystals much faster than for example with a Sword which would only hit a single crystal. So any weapon attack that swoops sideways to cover a wide range works nicely here.
When you see red circles on the floor run away, those indicate that some stones will come falling from above or some other attack comes through the floor. Other than that it’s a pretty straightforward fight. If you see his eyes ever glow yellow run to the side as he’s about to fire laser beams.
This finishes The High-spirited Demon main mission in Nioh 2. Now the mission The Mausoleum of Evil becomes available.
