Getting Through Locked Doors
The main goal of this mission is getting into the large building on the right side from where you start out. First, you need to head left into that building though. Any human enemies you see in this mission will all be Rokurokubis, so watch out for them.
At the end of the hallway in the first room, you can break through the wall to get to the other side where there will be an Ubume. If you continue forward there will be a door to open leading to the walkway on the other side, but you should go into the courtyard first. By the section of rocks closest to where the shrine is, you can find Kodama #1.
Fight through the two enemies in the courtyard, then go to the back right corner to find a Yokai Fog that spawns a Mitsume Yazura. When it spawns the area turns into a Darkness Realm, but then goes away after you defeat it. Go up the ladder behind it the follow the rooftop around to the left towards the first building you entered. Watch on the corner of the roof as there are two ninja enemies hiding there.
Drop down into the building, and in this room there will first by a Yoki, then an axe Skeleton, then a Tesso. Behind where the Yoki is on the right side you can find Kodama #2. You can open the door behind the Tesso after to get back to the lower floor of this building.
Go back to the rooftop, and this time go to the right towards the hole in the large building that the light is shining in to. Watch when you walk into the area as a Ninja will drop from the ceiling directly in front of you. Now you can walk carefully to the end of the beam on the right to find Kodama #3, the final one for this mission.
You can drop down to the lower area if you want, but it’ll do a lot of damage to you and in this room is the boss so it isn’t advised. Instead, go back down the ladder, then go onto the walkway at the back through the door in the building. There is a Yoki on the left by an item, then a Flying Bolt moving back and forth on the walkway with a Skeleton behind her. Take the next walkway on the right and go all the way to the end, killing the Ninja and Skeleton along the way. Take the right first and open the door, which gets you right back to the shrine. Then take the left path and go into the building to fight the mission boss, an Onryoki.
Onryoki Boss Fight
Onryoki was the second boss in the original Nioh game. If you played it, you will already be very familiar with this boss. Luckily, this time you encounter him much later in the game when you are already stronger and have more skills to choose from, so he’s easier than in the original. In the first phase he will whirl around two big steel balls. These do huge damage. Take it slow here – only landing single high-stance hits every time he finishes a whirl or when he’s done slamming the steel balls in front of him. Always try to attack him from behind for a x200% damage multiplier. Only do single hits and no combos, he spins around much too quickly and will just hit you. So remember: single high-stance hits only, thus you whittle down his health one hit at a time between his attacks. At about 66% health he will let go off the steel balls. Then he attacks with his hands only – which means he has much less reach than before. Now you can get some 2-3 hit combos in. Always keep moving sideways to get behind him. By the time he finished a combo you will be standing behind him and can unleash some quick hits. Retreat and repeat.
When the Onyroki is killed it drops a Rusty Key. Follow the compass towards the North of the area and open the door at the end. Speak to the guy in this room 3 times to have him give you a Lumicite Shard and finish this mission.
This finishes The Golden Nation mission in Nioh 2.
