Welcome to the NieR Replicant Remaster (ver.1.22474487139) Side Quests Guide. Side Quests (referred to just as “Quests” in the game menu) are optional objectives you can do during the game to help out characters in exchange for money or other rewards.
You need to do a total of 30 side quests to earn the following trophies:
- Village Handyman
- Hack of All Trades
- Go-To Guy
You are also effectively required to do all Fisherman’s Gambit quests in order to earn the two fishing related trophies:
- Fish of Legend
- A Round by the Pond
You also need to do a few of the side quests specifically to obtain weapons so that you can earn the weapon-related trophies:
- Weapons Collector
- Forging Master
Quests are divided up by ones from the story Part One and Part Two, along with the location they are started and when they can be started. Aside from the Fisherman’s Gambit questline, all Part One quests become “uncompleteable” and can’t be done in Part Two. All quests needed for trophies are done in Part Two though and can’t be missed or locked out of.

Part One
Quests in Part One become available after you return from the Lost Shrine the first time. The last point you can do Quests in Part One is when you go to Popola in the Library after returning from the Manor. If you want to do all Side Quests in Part 1, do them all before speaking to Popola. If you do every available Side Quest the Quest Completion in the menu will be 50%.
Nier’s Village
Book Smarts
Location: Nier’s Village, library building. Talk to the girl on the top floor of the library.
Reward: 500 gold
Place the two books the girl gives you in the correct locations. The first is on the east wall of 2F by the left stairwell, the second is on the south side of 1F to the left of the two girls.
Boar Hunt
Location: Nier’s Village, in the main town area in the southwest. Speak to the old man sitting on the box just to the left.
Reward: 1000 gold, ability to ride boars
Go to the Northern Plains area and kill the wild boar. It’s on the west side over the now fixed bridge.
The Lost Eggs
Location: Nier’s Village, Item Shop owner
Reward: Healing Salve
The item shop owner wants you to find where the chickens are hiding the eggs. The location you are meant to pick them up is behind a pillar by the fountain between the village and Nier’s house. It is possible you can grab one from a gather point though, which also counts. Once you find an egg, return to the shop owner.
Old-Fashioned Home Cooking
Location: Nier’s Village, woman sitting on a bench by the fountain in the shop area
Reward: 1500 Gold (each time, repeatable)
The woman wants you to bring her 10 pieces of Mutton, which you can obtain by killing sheep in the Northern Plains. Once you obtain the required number return to the woman for a reward. This quest is unique in that it’s the only repeatable one in the game, in that you can continually bring the woman more Mutton during Part One of the story.
Shopping List
Location: Nier’s Village, Flower Shop owner
Reward: 500 gold, able to plant seeds in the garden by Nier’s house
The florist in Nier’s Village wants you to get 3 tulip bulbs for her, which can be purchased from the Grocery Store in Seafront. Once you have them, return to her to complete the quest. You then gain the ability to use the garden outside Nier’s house.
A Return to Shopping
Location: Seafront, Flower Shop owner after completing “Shopping List”
Reward: Tulip Bulb, Bounty Fertilizer, 2000 gold, larger garden area
The florist now wants you to obtain 3 Bounty Fertilizers for her. Like last time these can be purchased in Seafront, but this time from the Item Shop. Once you have them, return to the florist.
The Tavern Keeper’s Grandmother
Location: Nier’s Village, in the Tavern
Reward: 2000 gold
The tavern keeper needs you to get some ingredients to make some medicine for her mother. She needs you to get 3 medical herbs, 3 berries, and 3 royal ferns. Medical herbs can be bought from any item shop, berries can be purchased from the material shop, and royal ferns can be bought from the grocer located in Seafront. After you have obtained 3 of each item, return to the tavern-keeper, who then asks you to take the medicine to her grandmother at the fountain by the library.
Fragile Delivery
Location: Nier’s Village, the guard left of the Northern Gate
Reward: 1400 gold
Take the package to the gold house in The Aerie, but it breaks if you take damage or dodge. This is easier to do after you complete the side quest Boar Hunt and wait until after Kaine joins you, because then you can ride a boar across the Northern Plains area, then no Shades spawn in The Aerie between the entrance and the house you need to go do.
Fragile Delivery 2
Location: Nier’s Village, man sitting on the fountain in the shopping district (after completing “Fragile Delivery”)
Reward: 1450 gold
Take the package to the Tavern in Seafront, same deal that it breaks if you take damage or dodge. There isn’t much along the Southern Plains path to get in your way, other than the two dear just after the open area that will kick you if you get too close. Shoot them with Weiss to get them out of your way.
The Gatekeeper’s Errand
Location: Nier’s Village, right of gate leading to Northern Plains
Reward: 500 gold
Go talk to Blacksmith’s Wife in the shopping district, simply talking to her completes the request.
Herbal Remedies
Location: Nier’s Village, in the library, speak to Popola
Reward: 500 gold
Find two medicinal herbs for Popola. These are picked up off the ground or purchased from vendors. High chance you already have two on you to give to her immediately.
A Dog Astray

Reward: 1000 gold
The villager wants your help to find a lost dog. You can find it below the bridge leading up to the Junk Heap in Northern Plains.
On the Wings of Eagles
Location: Nier’s Village, in the Tavern (after returning to the Village from Seafront the first time and completed “The Tavern Keeper’s Grandmother”)
Reward: 2000 gold
The tavern keeper now wants you to find an eagle egg to make more medicine for her grandmother. This is found in The Aerie, located on the lower level of houses below the chief’s house (the gold one). Bring the egg back to the tavern keeper, then take the medicine to her grandmother again.
The Ballad of the Twins
Location: Nier’s Village, speak to Popola in the tavern in the shop area (after returning to the Village from Seafront the first time)
Reward: None
A villager in the tavern wants you to try and get Devola to come to sing with Popola. Talk to Devola in the tavern first, then Popola in the library. Popola wants you to get a drink from her at the tavern in Seafront before she’ll come sing.
The tavern keeper needs you to get the ingredients for him to make the drink, which is 5 lizard tails and 5 mouse tails. You need to get these by picking up mice and lizards in the game world. Mice can be found in the area outside the Junk Heap, lizards can be found running around either in Nothern Plains or Eastern Road. Eastern Road is the easier place to grind for them, due to being a smaller area to run through than Northern Plains.
After getting all the ingredients, return to the tavern keeper to get the drink made, then take it back to Popola in the library. You’ll then automatically go to the tavern where you can listen to Devola and Popola singing. When you want to finish the quest, interact with them.
Yonah’s Cooking
Location: Nier’s Village, Nier’s house (after returning to the Village from Seafront the first time)
Reward: None
Yonah needs 1 Venison and 1 Wheat. Wheat can be purchased in town from the grocery vendor, venison can be obtained from Deer in the Southern Plains. The dialogue you choose when you return to her doesn’t matter, just changes what happens when she cooks the food.
Yonah’s Gift
Location: Nier’s Village, Nier’s House (after completing “Yonah’s Cooking” and Kaine has joined you)
Reward: None
Yonah needs more ingredients. This time she needs 3, but she will only ask for these one at a time. The items are 1 melon, 1 watermelon, and 1 pumpkin. All three of these items can be purchased from the shop in Facade if you don’t find them while exploring.
Fragile Delivery 3
Location: Nier’s Village, guard to the left of Eastern Road exit (after rescuing the Prince of Facade and completed “Fragile Delivery 2”)
Reward: 2900 gold
Take the package to the weapon shop in Facade, same as before don’t roll or take damage. You really only need to watch out for wolves in the desert here, which you can just avoid by walking around the right south side of the area to avoid most of them.
The Runaway Son
Location: Nier’s Village, Man at South end of shop area (after rescuing the Prince of Facade)
Reward: None
The main wants you to find his runaway son, who he says wears a strange hat. You can find the strange man in Seafront, standing by a tree just south of the fountain. The man wants to cook a meal to thank the tavern keeper in town for feeding him, and wants 5 mutton and 3 goat meat. Mutton can be obtained from sheep in the Northern Plains, goat meat can be obtained from goats located along the Eastern Road. After you have obtained them go to the tavern, then return to the man’s father in Nier’s Village.
You need to go back to Seafront to look for clues about where the kid might have gone, to find the clue speak to the man just to the left of the entrance/exit of Seafront, who will tell you the kid probably went to Facade. You can find the first clue about him by talking to the pair of people just south of the entrance to Facade, who will both have speech bubbles. You can then interact with the nearby door to find the man. He runs off again, heading out into the desert. You meet him as you leave Facade next, and can chase him down and interact with him when he stops. At the exit to the Eastern Road area, you will be attacked by a pack of wolves. Deal with them, then the man says he’ll go home for good.
Return to the village and interact with the door of the house you originally found the man out. Turns out the whole family skipped town after borrowing money, and you get no reward for bringing the kid back, tough luck.
Seafront
Letter to a Lover
Location: Seafront, man standing near the fountain on the East side of town
Reward: 3000 gold
The man wants you to take a letter to his girlfriend in the Aerie. The girl lives on a house on the same platform as the chief’s house (the gold one). When you reach there you find she is no longer there. When you are leaving the Aerie you are attacked by a large Shade that you must defeat. After it is dealt with, go back to the man in Seafront.
A Signature Dish
Location: Seafront, tavern keeper
Reward: 5000 gold
The tavern keeper wants your help obtaining some ingredients for him. He wants 10 medicinal herbs, 10 wheat, and 10 sardines. Medicinal herbs can be found or purchased from any item store, wheat can be purchased from the grocer in Nier’s Village, and sardines must be fished for at the beach near the lighthouse in Seafront (or purchased from the Fish vendor if you already completed the first Fisherman’s Gambit quest). Once you obtained all the items, return to the tavern to get your reward.
Bon Appetit!
Location: Seafront, tavern keeper (after completing “A Signature Dish)
Reward: 5000 gold
The tavern keeper wants help with creating a new dish because the townspeople are tired of seafood pasta. You’ll first need to go to the library back in Nier’s Village and find a cookbook to get a new recipe out of. In the library, turn left immediately when entering and the first shelf has the recipe book in it. After grabbing it return to the tavern in Seafront.
The recipe requires 5 sharks, 5 rice, and 5 mushrooms. Both the rice and mushrooms can be purchased from the grocer in Seafront, but the shark must first be fished for. You can fish for it off the pier in Seafront (beside where the Fisherman’s Gambit man is standing) using sardines as bait (caught yourself or purchased from the fish shop). You will need to complete at least the first few Fisherman’s Gambit side quests before you have high enough fishing ability to even catch the sharks (I found I was first able to after completing Part 4), so make sure you do those first. After obtaining the ingredients, return to the Tavern Keeper for your reward.
The New Merchant in Town
Location: Seafront, man sitting on the boat in the southeast corner of the town
Reward: 10,000 gold
The man wants your help obtaining some materials so he can work on opening up a shop. He needs 10 wool, 5 natural rubber, and 10 goat hide. Wool can be obtained from Sheep in the Northern Plains or purchased from the Material Shop in Nier’s Village, Goat Hide is obtained from goats in Northern Plains or Eastern Road, and Natural Rubber can be purchased from the Material Shop in Seafront. Goat Hide doesn’t have a great drop rate, so using the Eastern Road spot is a preferable place to grind for it. Once you have the materials, return to the man on the boat. There will be some dialogue, then he asks to pay you after he completes setting up shop. You’ll need to leave the Seafront area, then return to the man once more to get your reward.
The Postman’s Request
Location: Seafront, man in the post office (location obtained from Devola in the Tavern in Nier’s Village once she starts giving you certain extra quests).
Reward: 1000 gold
The postman asks you to deliver another letter to the lady in the lighthouse for him. Simply take it to her to complete the quest.
The Lighthouse Lady’s Wrath
Location: Seafront, man in the post office (location obtained from Devola in the Tavern in Nier’s Village after completing “The Postman’s Request”).
Reward: None
The postman asks you to talk the lady from the lighthouse into staying in town instead of leaving. When you see her, it turns out she is infected with the Black Scrawl, and her dying wish is to see her loved one. Go back and speak to the postman again, then leave the building and reenter it. The postman tells you to go into the backroom to find something. Move the boxes out of the way to access the other room and interact with the letters on the table. After speaking to the postman again, return to the lady in the lighthouse, choosing whichever option you wish here, it doesn’t change the rewards or outcomes.
Closure
Location: Seafront, man in the post office (location obtained from Devola in the Tavern in Nier’s Village after completing “The Lighthouse Lady’s Wrath”).
Reward: None
The postman has one final quest for you. Return to him in Seafront and simply speaking to him completes this quest.
The Fisherman’s Gambit
Location: Seafront, the man on the dock who you talked to about fishing during the story
Reward: Improved fishing skill, Sardines sold at Fish Shop in Seafront
The fisherman says he’ll tell you more secrets of fishing, if you catch 10 sardines for him. These can be caught at the beach near the lighthouse using Lugworms, which can be purchased from the Fish Shop in Seafront. After you have caught 10 sardines, return to the fisherman on the pier.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 2
Location: Seafront, the man on the dock (after The Fisherman’s Gambit)
Reward: Improved fishing
The man now wants you to catch 7 blowfish for him. Blowfish can be caught off the Searfront pier (where the man is standing) using lugworms.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 3
Location: Seafront, the man on the dock (after The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 2)
Reward: Improved fishing
Now he wants you to catch him 7 rainbow trout. These are fished for using just the lure, but you need to make a trek over to the Northern Plains to fish for them. The water in Northern Plains where you fish is the area below the bridge leading to the Junk Heap.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 4
Location: Seafront, the man on the dock (after The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 3)
Reward: Improved fishing
This time he wants you to catch 5 bream, which thankfully doesn’t require going anywhere as these are fished for off the Seafront pier using just a lure.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 5
Location: Seafront, the man on the dock (after The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 4)
Reward: Improved fishing
For the final fishing quest you can complete during Part 1 of the story, the man wants you to catch 5 black bass. These are caught from the water in Nier’s Village using just a normal lure.
The Pride of a Lover
Location: Seafront, man standing just below the lighthouse (After rescuing the Prince of Facade) (must be talked to on three separate occasions of entering the town)
Reward: 30,000 gold
The man wants you to get him an item that must be purchased from the Strange Things store located in Facade. When you visit the Strange Things store, the man says that their supply has been exhausted, and you need to go back into the Barren Temple to find some Fluorite. There isn’t a specific location in the temple to find this, it’s just one of the possible materials picked up from the gather points in the temple. Once you’ve found it, bring it back to the main in Seafront.
Facade
Item Unknown
Location: Facade, in front of the king’s palace
Reward: 3000 gold
The person wants you to help obtain some items for their child for their birthday but isn’t allowed to actually tell you the name of the item due to Facade’s rules. They want 10 “round striped objects”, which turns out are 10 watermelons. You can purchase these from the grocer in Facade, which happens to be directly beside where this person is.
Apology from a Fool
Location: Facade, the Strange Things store
Reward: 20,000 gold
The man wants to make a wolf hide coat to apologize to his wife for cheating on her, and needs 1o wolf hides to do it. You can get these by killing wolves out in the desert, or by just purchasing them from the Materials Shop in Facade (though at this point in the game they might be a bit expensive to buy). After returning to the man with the hides, he asks you to let his wife know about the gift. She is located directly above the shop on the upper level of the area.
The Missing Girl
Location: Facade, person directly North of the Strange Things store
Reward: 10,000 gold
The person wants you to find their missing daughter. You can find clues to her location by talking to people around town, which should eventually lead you to find some bloodstains on the ground on the lowest level of town (northwest side).
The bloodstains are distressing, and after finding them you should go speak to the girl’s boyfriend. First you need to speak to the nearby treasury guard by the bloodstain, who tells you the girl’s boyfriend guards the town entrance. His is the one on the right, and when you speak to him, and he gives up that he accidentally killed her and put her body in a sandspout well outside the city to hide it. Go to the first well outside the city, where a body will not be found, then back into town and speak to the person again to complete the quest.
The Littlest Hero
Location: Facade, the Weapons store
Reward: 10,000 gold
The man who owns the weapons store wants you to find his son, who he says has gone out into the desert to make a name for himself. You can find him midway through the desert and when spoken to he runs off towards the area leading to the Barren Temple. Follow him there (if you haven’t yet you need to speak to one of the guards by the King’s Palace in Facade to get the Royal Compass, which allows you to go into the sandstorm area by the temple). The wolf den is located on the North West side of the desert area, down the stairs, and through the door into the sectioned-off area. After defeating the wolves, you will automatically return to Facade and complete the quest.
The Tangled Message
Location: Facade, in the center of town, speak to the man in the middle of the pillar (location can be obtained from Popola in the tavern in Nier’s Village)
Reward: 10,000 gold
The man wants you to interact with people around Facade and learn more about the city.
The first person you need to speak to stands to the left of the town entrance, and you give the message “The Masked People respect their rules”.
The second person stands to the left of the entrance to the King’s Mansion, and you give the message “The Men of the Mask work for the king.”
The third person is “taking care of children”, they are standing on the highest level of town on the north side by the two spinning wheels. The message you give them is “Child care can be difficult.”
The fourth person is “the southeastern guardian”, which means the guard on the lowest level of town on the southeastern side. The message you give is “Only nobility may enter the treasury.”
The final person is “the longwinded person”, which means one of the two people on the northwest corner of town standing by a sand stream. The message you give them is “Quicksand”.
After finding the final recipient, you will be taken back to the man in the center of town and complete the quest.
Part Two
Quests in Part Two start becoming available right away after you receive the letter to go meet Emil again, then some more after you free Kaine and gain access to the boats for fast travel, which would be the best point to start working on them. All quests from Part One aside from the Fisherman’s Gambit quest can no longer be completed, BUT there are still at least 30 quests available in Part Two so you can still complete Go-To Guy even if you didn’t touch any quests in Part One.
For subsequent playthroughs of Part Two, any quests that have already been completed won’t appear again.
Nier’s Village
Contract for a Contractor
Location: Nier’s Village, man walking around North of Shopping District
Reward: 30,000 gold
The man is looking for some materials to repair a kitchen. He requires 1 memory alloy, 10 titanium alloy, and 10 broken motor. These are all obtained from the robots in the Junk Heap dungeon. Broken Motors are dropped commonly from the flying robots, while titanium alloy is either a rare drop from the yellow light robots or a common drop from the large walking robots. Memory alloy is specifically dropped from the large walking robots.
Thieves in Training
Location: Nier’s Village, Item Shop Owner
Reward: 3000 gold
The Item Shop owner wants you to check around town for some thieves that have been stealing items. If you talk to the few people around town, Wiess comes to the conclusion it’s the kids hanging out by the waterwheel. Go over there and speak to them, and they’ll say their father put them up to it. Go over to the tavern and talk to the man at the bar, then go back to the item shop owner to complete the quest.
The Creaky Waterwheel
Location: Nier’s Village, lady directly beside the Item Shop
Reward: 10,000 gold
You decide to help fix the Waterwheel in town, and the items you need can be found at the strange things store in Facade. Unfortunately, when you get to the store he says they’re out, but he can make you the parts if you bring him 10 iron ore and 10 logs. Iron ore can be purchased from the weapon shop at the Junk Heap, and logs can be purchased from the Material Shop in Nier’s Village. Once you have the required items return to the Strange Thing store, where he will tell you he will build the needed items, and you can return to the lady in Nier’s Village to complete the quest.
The Faded Fountain
Location: Nier’s Village, guard by the fountain opposite the item shop (after completing The Creaky Waterwheel)
Reward: 20,000 gold
The guard has heard you helped fix the water wheel and now wants your help fixing the fountain in the village too. You’ll need to make another trip to the Strange Thing store in Facade to find out what you need, where the owner will say he requires 10 Broken Motors and 10 Severed Cables to make the required parts. Both of these items must be obtained from destroying robots in the Junk Heap, with Broken Motors typically coming from the flying robots, and severed cables coming from basically all of the robots. Once you have the required parts return to the strange thing store to turn them in, then head back to the guard in Nier’s Village to receive your reward.
The Damaged Map
Location: Nier’s Village, Weapon Shop Owner
Reward: Labyrinth’s Shout
The weapon shop owner says he’s looking for treasure maps, but doesn’t know where to find any. The dialogue should imply that you go look in the library for some, where you can find one by searching on the south wall of the second floor. The map you find is too damaged to read through, and you need to go speak to the owner of the Strange Things store in Facade about getting it fixed.
At the Strange Things store, the owner says he needs 3 Machine Oil, 3 Eggplants, and 3 Goat Hide to fix the map. Eggplants can be purchased from the Grocer in Nier’s Village, but for the other two items you will have to grind more. Machine Oil is dropped by the flying robots located in the Junk Heap, while Goat Hides are found from killing the Goats that will now be located in the Eastern Road (the ones in Northern Plains disappear in Part Two). Once you’ve fixed the map, return to the weapon shop owner in the village with it.
After returning to the weapon shop you speak to the owner’s wife, who asks you to look for the treasure in place of her husband. You’ll need to get the map deciphered first though, so head to Popola in the library. She says that the map description talks about a room in the Lost Shrine “where sunlight does not reach”, so head there when you are ready to look for the treasure. Head up the first flight of stairs to 2F and follow through the doors as you have during the story. After you come back out onto the main balcony, instead of going through into the next set of doors to continue up the shrine, turn around from it and there is a door leading into a dead-end room. In this room, you will find a “Pile of Junk”. Take that junk back to the wife in the village.
She is disappointed you didn’t find anything good to satisfy her husband’s curiosity, so wants you to sell her hair ornament to say you found something. Agree to sell it, and then go to the Strange Things store in Facade to exchange it for an “Old Gold Coin”, which you bring back to the blacksmith. He is happy for what you “found”, and in return, he gives you another map. Take this map to Popola again, and she’ll translate it to being a map of the Northern Plains and points to “The start of a steel bridge”. The steel bridge in question is the section in the middle of the western side of the plains. Underneath it, on the north end, you can find a point to interact with where you will obtain the Labyrinth’s Shout spear and complete this quest.
The Bridge in Peril
Location: Nier’s Village, guard walking around by Northern Plains exit (after returning from the Lost Shrine)
Reward: Labyrinth Whisper (drops from Shade boss), 30,000 gold
A guard walking by the Northern Plains gate says there is a large shade by the bridge in the Northern Plains that’s attacking people and asks you to dispatch it. He says the shade doesn’t always appear though, and that’s because it only appears when it’s cloudy weather. The way weather in Replicant works is that it doesn’t change when you enter or exit Nier’s Village, but it does when you move between the other areas. So if you want to change the weather in the Northern Plains, go through into one of the other locations like the Forest of Myth, and when you go back to the Northern Plains the weather will have potentially changed.
Now the bridge in question that the shade appears by is the wooden one that links the two halves of the Northern Plains area. If you are trying to get the shade to spawn you want the weather in the area to be cloudy instead of sunny, and the fastest way to do this is going through to the Forest of Myth. If you come into the plains and the weather isn’t cloudy, go in and out of the forest again. Once you get cloudy weather, go over to the wooden bridge to see if the shade has spawned. It will spawn while you approach the bridge, with a dialogue box remarking on it being the shade. If you are trying to do this early in part two and it doesn’t seem to be spawning (for example right after getting the first key piece and needing to go to the Junk Heap or Forest of Myth) try progressing the story a bit. If it has spawned, dispatch it, then go report back to the guard in town to get your reward. If you are wanting to run back and forth to try and get the shade to spawn, when you have cloudy weather in the Northern Plains go in and out of the village instead of the Forest, because the weather normally doesn’t change when entering and exiting the village, so you can get multiple changes without needing to get cloudy weather again.
The Promised Gift
Location: Nier’s Village, man operating the boat travel dock (after first visit to either Forest of Myth or Junk Heap, must be done before the point in the story you deal with the ship in Seafront)
Reward: 3000 gold
The man at the boat dock says he wants help finding a gift for his wife because he missed their wedding anniversary. Go through the dialogue options, and you will eventually arrive at him wanting to get her a bunch of red items, and needs your help obtaining a Red Jewel for her. He suggests trying out the Strange Things store in Facade (that place just has everything doesn’t it). Speaking to the owner of the Strange Things store, they give you a “Red Jewel?” for free that you can take back to the man. He’ll have you meet in Seafront after taking the boat, then he’ll run off to get the other items. Meet his wife over by the shops down the main road of Seafront, where you’ll give the items to her and get a free meal for your trouble.
A Child’s Final Chance
Location: Nier’s Village, grocery shop Owner (after first visit to either Forest of Myth or Junk Heap)
Reward: 10,000 gold, permanent discount from the Grocery Store
The grocer says that her child has become mysteriously ill after playing with other children. Your first task is to speak to the children in town to see if they know anything about what happened. After speaking to the 3 children in town, you will need to go check out the Forest of Myth because all the children talk about it being cursed. In the forest, go to the north end by the large tree, and you’ll automatically pick up some berries off the ground. On the way out of the forest, you’ll find out about the berries being poisonous. You will be given an antidote by one of the forest residents, which you can take back to the woman in town to complete the quest.
The Despicable Man
Location: Nier’s Village, woman sitting across from weapons shop (After obtaining Forest and Junk Heap key fragments)
Reward: 15,000 gold
The woman knows you help people out around town and wants your help looking for her boyfriend who disappeared 5 years ago. She doesn’t have a lot to go off of though, so start out talking to a marked guard at each the South and North gates of the area. They’ll tell you they heard he was around the Forest of Myth, so head there to continue searching. In the Forest, go speak to the man at the back, and he’ll tell you he last heard about the man in Seafront. In Seafront, go to the east wall to talk to a woman standing by some taps along the wall, then talk to the man standing outside the Post Office, then the man sitting directly above the Materials Shop. You’ll learn from these people that he headed off to the Junk Heap, so head there and talk to the Gideon at Two Brothers. From what Gideon tells you it’s likely that the man was the one they found with Gideon’s mother 5 years ago, and he’s long dead. Return to the woman in Nier’s Village to get your reward and complete the quest.
Search for the Shade
Location: Nier’s Village, guard standing opposite Southern village exit (After obtaining Aerie key fragment)
Reward: 5000 gold
The guard says that there has apparently been a shade spotted in the village and wants you to investigate. A girl comes over and says she saw a monster by the river, which you should go over and check out. Go up the west side of the river, and you’ll remark about the shade not being there. Go back over near the gate and speak to the girl again, and this time she suggests that she saw it in front of the library. Go over there, and you’ll again not find anything. Weiss suggests asking some of the other villagers instead, there will be three inside the town area you can talk to about the shade. After talking to the villagers, Weiss figures the girl is lying to you, and you should go and speak to her again. She tells you that she DIDN’T see it up on the hill to the northwest of town, which is the spot you should go and check (reached by the stairs near the town entrance and continuing west). You’ll find the shade up on the hill here, deal with it then return to the guard to complete this quest.
Seafront
The Strange Fate of the Jewel
Location: Seafront, speak to the lady by the ship docks on the southeast side of town
Reward: 10,000 gold OR nothing (depends on your chosen outcome)
The lady wants your help in finding a jewel somewhere in Seafront. If you speak to one of the women sitting on the fountain to the north, she will mention the lighthouse lady, and you should go over to the lighthouse to take a look. On the lower floor, interact with the barrels to read a pair of letters. It looks like the jewel must have been kept by the postman writing letters to the old lady earlier, so head over there. The current postman directs you to the backroom to take a look, making your way through the box maze and picking up the package off the table in the back room.
After grabbing it you talk to the postman, then you have a choice to do with what to do with the jewel. You can choose to bury it with the old woman, but this then gets you no monetary reward from the quest. If you choose to give it to the client or sell it you get 10,000 gold from either option. Whatever choice you make, return to the lady at the docks to complete the quest.
Staying Afloat
Location: Seafront, man standing by the ship docks on the southeast side of town
Reward: 20,000 gold
A man at the dock wants your help fixing a boat. He requires 5 logs, 20 dented metal, and 10 stripped bolts for the repairs. Logs can be purchased from the material shop in Nier’s Village, and the other two items are common drops from the enemies or crates in the Junk Heap dungeon.
The Scattered Cargo
Location: Seafront, woman standing by the fountain on the northeast side of town
Reward: 20,000 gold/discount at Seafront item store OR 50,000 gold (depends on your chosen outcome)
The woman wants your help finding three crates that she had been shipping and are now lost all over the place. She tells you not to look in the crates, but when you find them you can if you want, and you need to look inside if you want an arguably better reward.
The first lost crate can be found in the water in Nier’s Village, in the rocky beach area opposite the shopping district.
The second lost crate can be found sitting on the beach in Seafront near the far end (right side of the wrecked ship).
The third lost crate can be found in the water just underneath the bridge leading to the Junk Heap.
You now have a choice for what to do with the cargo you’ve found. If you deliver it properly to the client you are rewarded with 20,000 gold along with a discount at the Seafront item store, along with it stocking some new items (Recovery Potion and Capsules). If you choose to deliver it to the authorities you get 50,000 gold. If you choose to give it to the client return to her over by the fountain, if you choose to turn it in your go speak to the man right near the entrance to Seafront. If you choose to turn it into the authorities, you need to go over to the post office to pick up your reward and complete the quest.
The Masterless Lighthouse
Location: Seafront, man standing in front of the lighthouse
Reward: 30,000 gold
The man wants 10 broken lenses, 10 broken batteries, and 10 mysterious switches to fix the lighthouse. These items are all found by defeating either the flying or ground robots in all floors of the Junk Heap. Once you have all the required items, return to the man at the lighthouse to get your reward.
Learning a Trade
Location: Seafront, Man on the boat at the docks (Must have done quest “The New Merchant in Town” in Part One of the story)
Reward: 20,000 gold (total)
The man on the boat still doesn’t want to give up on his sea dreams, and he wants your help with making a homemade herbal remedy for his seasickness. The first item he asks you for is mandrake leaf, which you can obtain if you go to the Strange Thing store in Facade. The owner is being weird with you but gives you the leaf which you can take back to the man in Seafront. He’ll give you 10,000 gold for this first item, then ask you to obtain some toad oil, which you can get from Two Brother’s Weaponry at the Junk Heap. Go to them to get the toad oil, then return to the man in Seafront a final time to get another 10,000 gold and complete the quest.
The Great Tree
Location: Seafront, man to the left of the item shop (after returning from the Lost Shrine)
Reward: 20,000 gold
The man is a botanist and has heard about the great tree in the Lost Shrine. He wants you to go and “borrow” a piece of it for him. On the lowest floor of the Lost Shrine look around the roots of the tree for a pickup point (this will be on the side close to the bottom of the stairs). Interact with it and a few weak Shades and a large boss Shade will spawn. Deal with them, then interact with the spot again to get a Great Tree Root. Take this back to the man in Seafront to complete the quest.
Master of the Southern Plains
Location: Seafront, Postman in post office (after returning from the Lost Shrine)
Reward: 30,000 gold
The man at the post office says there is a large Shade in the Southern Plains and wants your help dealing with it. Like the Shade in “A Bridge in Peril”, this one only appears during cloudy weather, so if you need to change it you can enter and exit Seafront. Once you do have cloudy weather, you can enter and exit the Village to get multiple chances at the Shade spawning. Go from the Village entrance to the path leading to Emil’s Manor, as that’s the location the shade will spawn. You’ll know you’re in an instance of it spawning because there won’t be any enemies that spawn before reaching that point, then you’ll get a dialogue remarking how large the shade is. Once you defeat it, return to the Postman in Seafront for your reward.
A Memorable Knife
Location: Seafront, bartender in tavern (after obtaining two key fragments)
Reward: 20,000 gold
The bartender wants you to go get him a knife from Two Brother’s Weaponry in the Junk Heap. When you go there the brother says he needs 10 Titanium Alloy to create the special knife. Titanium Alloy is only dropped from the yellow light or large walking boss robots on floor B2 of the Junk Heap dungeon (or from the box room in the Recycled Vessel), and 10 is quite a few so it’ll be a bit of a grind to get these. Once you have the 10 Titanium Alloy, return them to Gideon to have the knife made, then take the knife to the bartender in Seafront to get your reward.
Bon Appetit! 2
Location: Seafront, bartender in tavern (after obtaining three key fragments, completing “A Memorable Knife”, and completed “Bon Appetit!” in Part One of the story)
Reward: 20,000 gold
The bartender has another recipe from the book he wants to try out, and needs your help getting more ingredients. For the recipe he needs 10 Giant Catfish and 10 Rice. The Rice can be purchased from the Grocery Store in Seafront, but the Catfish you will need to go out of your way for. They’re one of the extra fish in the game not required for the Fisherman’s Gambit quest, so even if you finished all those you can’t just buy Catfish, so need to catch 10 manually. These are best caught using Carp as bait in the Eastern Road river (with Carp first being caught in the Village river using Earthworms). When fishing for Catfish using Carp you wait for the first bobber pull then immediately pull back on the stick to hook the fish. Once you have the required items, return to the tavern to complete the quest.
Freesia
Location: Seafront, man above weapons vendor (After obtaining three key fragments, completed “Letter to a Lover” in Part One of the story)
Reward: 10,000 gold
This man is the one you might have helped deliver a letter to someone in the Aerie in Part One of the story (this quest isn’t available if you didn’t). He wants your help delivering a freesia to the Materials Shop in Facade. After that return to the man in Seafront to complete the quest. After being given the money you have the choice of mentioning his girlfriend or not. Whether or not you do is an entirely personal preference that just gives a different dialogue bit right after this, there’s no future thing that it affects.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 6
Location: Seafront, the man on the dock (after The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 5 and be in Part Two of the story)
Reward: Improved fishing
This is the first of the Fisherman’s Gambit quests that require you to be in the second half of the story to complete. The Fisherman wants you to catch 3 Sandfish. These are the first of the fish that inexplicably are caught in the desert, out of the river of sand near where the boat pier is that you can fast travel to. Sandfish are caught with just the basic lure, but contrary to how prior fish were caught you need to pull back on the stick to hook the fish right after the first bobber pull happens, instead of waiting for it to be pulled underwater as you can do with prior fish.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 7
Location: Seafront, the man on the dock (after The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 6)
Reward: Improved fishing
Next, he wants you to catch 3 Royal Fish. These are caught in the small river running along the Eastern Road using earthworms. Royal Fish go back to how the prior fish worked, where on the third pull the lure will submerge fully and then you pull back on the stick to hook them.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 8
Location: Seafront, the man on the dock (after The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 7)
Reward: Improved fishing
For the second last quest, he wants you to catch 2 Blue Marlin. These are caught from the Seafront Pier, and can actually be caught with either the lure or with sardine as bait. Lure has a slightly lower chance of it being Marlin (apparently 20% for lure and 30% for sardine bait) so up to you whether you want to catch or buy sardines to use or just try with the lure. The Marlin is like the Sandfish, and you need to pull back on the rod immediately after the pull on the bobber instead of waiting for it to be submerged.
The Fisherman’s Final Gambit
Location: Seafront, the man on the dock (after The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 8)
Reward: Improved fishing
For the final fish, the man wants you to catch a Hyneria. These are caught in the Desert using a Sardine as bait, waiting for the three tugs then the bobber to be pulled underwater. Once you caught one, go back to Seafront to complete this final quest.
Facade
Life in the Sands
Location: Facade, person standing beside the mailbox near the entrance
Reward: 10,000 gold
The person wants you to obtain for them 10 Pink Moonflower seeds. This is no easy task, as the Pink Moonflower seeds much be crossbred by planting other seeds in the garden outside Nier’s house. Only some Moonflower color seeds can be purchased, then they must be planted in an alternating pattern in the garden to possibly obtain the new color seeds after they have grown then wilted.
If you didn’t do the “Shopping List” and “A Return to Shopping” quests during Part One of the playthrough, you will first need to purchase the Cultivator’s Handbook item from the Florist in Nier’s Village, which allows you to use the full-size garden.
For info on how to garden and cross breed the Pink Moonflower seeds, see this page: NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 – Flower Growing Guide
Once you have the 10 seeds, return to the person in Facade to receive your reward.
The King’s Mask
Location: Facade, guard by the door to the King’s mansion
Reward: 10,000 gold
The guard needs two materials from you to make a new mask for the King. They require 1 Titanium Alloy and 1 Crystal. The Crystal can just be purchased from the Material Shop in Facade, but the Titanium Alloy must be obtained as a drop from the robots in the Junk Heap or the Recycled Vessel box room. Once you have the materials, return to the guard for your reward.
Nightmares and Dust
Location: Facade, guard by the entrance to Facade (after obtaining Facade key fragment)
Reward: 30,000 gold
The guard says that there have been people going missing in the sandstorm, and asks your help investigating. If you haven’t already you need to obtain the Royal Compass from the guard standing to the right of the door to the King’s Mansion, which allows you to go into the sandstorm area. When you have it travel up into the northern part of the desert into the sandstorm and you will find a large shade just to the east of where you enter. Defeat it, then return to the guard to complete the quest.
A City Reborn
Location: Facade, guard by the entrance to the King’s mansion (after obtaining Facade key fragment)
Reward: 50,000 gold
The guard is looking for your help obtaining supplies to help rebuild Facade after the wolf attacks. He asks you to obtain 20 Iron Ore, 20 Clay, and 20 Logs. Iron Ore can be purchased from Two Brother’s Weaponry, Logs can be purchased from the Materials Shop in Nier’s Village, and Clay can be purchased from the Materials Shop in Facade. Once you have obtained 20 of each of these items, return to the guard to complete the quest.
A Shade Entombed
Location: Facade, guard by the entrance to Facade (after obtaining Facade key fragment)
Reward: 20,000 gold
NOTE: Before doing this quest and “Disturbing the Sleep of Kings” you should be aware of an extremely good farming spot for the “Machine” materials in the Barren Temple that you can miss if you complete both of these quests. The third puzzle room on the right of the has a rule of no using magic, and spawns a boss shade and some melee ones. You can continually kill the boss shade for Machine drops, then use magic to reset the room. Make sure to farm this before completing the room, because no enemies spawn in the temple again after completing all rooms.
The guard says that there have been bandits going into the Barren Temple, and asks your help dealing with them. Turns out they accidentally released a large shade that was sealed into the temple, and that’s what you actually need to go deal with. In the Barren Temple, you will have to proceed through the first three puzzle rooms like you did prior during the story so that you can get to the back part of the temple (note for the next quest you have to go through and clear all of the puzzle rooms, so if you do them all here you save yourself a bit of time later). Once you do, go into the long hallway room in the northeast corner. In this room will be a large shade. Deal with it, then interact with the body on the ground to go back outside the temple. You will fight the lone bandit outside, then automatically return to the guard in Facade to complete the quest.
Disturbing the Sleep of Kings
Location: Facade, King of Facade (after completing “A Shade Entombed”)
Reward: Labyrinth’s Song
Because of the bandits releasing the sealed shade in the temple, the king wants your help dealing with the rest of the shades spread throughout the temple. Return to it, and this time you will need to go through each of the puzzle rooms clearing out the enemies. Any rooms you cleared during the prior visit in “A Shade Entombed” won’t need to be cleared again. To clear all rooms you will have to go all the way to the Hall where you fought the cube boss during Part One of the story, then once you complete that room you will be automatically brought back to Facade and complete the quest.
Shadows of the Desert
Location: Facade/Desert, Masked Person standing around in various places (after obtaining Facade key fragment, completed “The Missing Girl” in Part One of the story)
Reward: 30,000 gold
This quest functions like the one that you could do in Part One in Seafront, where you need to talk to a specific person 3 separate times before the quest actually occurs, and it doesn’t appear in the quest log until you actually finish it, then it just goes right into the completed section. You will first see the person on the southwest part of the desert near the stairs leading to the boat dock. Talking to them they tell you they’re scouting for wolves.
The next time you enter the desert area, you can find the person standing near the entrance to Facade.
The third and final time, they will be standing directly outside the entrance to Facade on the bridge. After speaking with them, you will be attacked by a large number of shades. Deal with them all, then you will automatically return to Facade and complete this quest.
Emi’s Manor
A Tale of Study
Location: Emil’s Manor, Sebastion the Butler standing in the entrance
Reward: 15,000 gold
Sebastion says there’s a Shade sitting in the study, not doing a whole lot. Nier decides he does want to deal with it though, so head to the study. If you didn’t already get the trophies for 50/100 combo then this is actually a good place for it, because this shade takes a ton of damage and doesn’t actually fight back when you attack it, so just switch to a weak sword or spear without damage increase words on it. Once it’s dealt with you’ll be returned to the manor entrance automatically and Sebastion will give you a reward.
Research Project
Location: Emil’s Manor, Sebastion the Butler standing in the entrance (After completing “A Tale of Study”, re-enter the manor to have him give it)
Reward: None
Sebastion wants help looking for a way to return Emil back to his prior form, and asks you to check in the underground lab for some more research information. You can get back down there the same way you did during the story (interact with the fountain). In the underground lab, proceed through it to the second floor (B2), then past the large maze-like room. In the room with the smaller rooms that you open doors to enter, the first room on the south will have a desk you can interact with that has a list of addresses. One of the addresses points you to Seafront, which you should head to. The house is “above the entrance”, so to reach it you should keep turning left from the entrance, which will lead you up some stairs to a gate right above the entrance to Seafront. Interact with it, then you’ll be given a letter in strange writing. Return to Sebastion with it to complete the quest.
Junk Heap
The Shade Army
Location: Junk Heap, Gideon at Two Brother’s Weaponry (after acquiring Junk Heap key fragment)
Reward: 30,000 gold
Gideon says that shades have taken over a floor of the Junk Heap, so he can’t make weapons fully the way he wants. He first needs 5 Broken Batteries and 5 Broken Motors to fix the elevator to get there. These can be obtained from any of the flying robots on various floors of the Junk Heap. Once you have these parts return to Gideon, and he’ll make an “Elevator Parts” for you to take and repair the elevator with. The elevator in question in the Junk Heap isn’t the normal one you take to get to B1/B2 during the story, but the next one after it. When you take the elevator to the second floor, you just need to go through and take out the Shades in the area. When they’re all cleared, return to Gideon to complete the quest.
The Forest of Myth
The Magical Stone
Location: Fortune Teller in Forest of Myth (after acquiring all key fragments)
Reward: 10,000 gold
A new woman is in the Forest of Myth sitting at the first house on the right. She says she’s trying to get into the fortune-telling business and wants your help obtaining a gazing stone. Popola apparently knows where to get one, so go talk to her in the library first. Popola tells you that you can find another stone on top of the Lost Shrine, so head there when you are ready. “On top of” is the area you get to with all the broken walls up top, just before you drop down to get to the boss room. There will be a push block immediately to the right when you get on top of the shrine, which you pull back around the corner to jump over the top of the walls. Continue to the north side of the rooftop, and you’ll reach an area where a boss shade spawns. Defeat it, and you will obtain an “Eye of Power”.
Now with the Eye of Power in hand go back out of the shrine and return to the Forest of Myth and give the woman the stone. She offers you a free reading, which you should agree to. You will be transported to a familiar location and attacked by shades. If you go inside the building, there is a box you can break where you will find the “Iron Pipe” weapon. Defeat all the shades to return from the dream and complete the quest.
You can return to the dream area later if you want by talking to the woman again.
That’s all of the Side Quests in NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139.

The Tavern Keeper’s Grandmother
Royal Fern can be found at a Rock, same place where the Boar is running around.
Aiko says
For the Letter to a Lover side quest, I talked to the man but didn’t get the prompt to accept the quest. Do I need to initiate the quest from Popola first?
Gage says
You shouldn’t as far as I remember, but if it’s one that appears from her when you speak to her in the bar that could be a workaround if you can’t get it the normal way.
Aiko says
Okay since I’m at the part of the main story where Kaine joins your party on the way to the Aerie to defeat the shades. Maybe it’ll just appear later before I’m ready to move on to Part Two.

The missing girl quest: bloodstains are in the north west corner, not north east
Gage says
Fixed, thanks for pointing that out.
Marvelfan24 says
If you save the shade related sidequests for Route B and onwards will you get to see the shades talk?
Gage says
No, you only get the extra shade dialogue during story segments.

The Promised Gift can be done after returning from the sanctuary and taking the first fragment of the key, it appears before junk heap
xpozitron says
There is a repeateble “quest” available in the northern plains when going for ending C/D. A guard wants You to exact a revenge on the sheep by riding them over on the boar. It is not in the journal and counted to the 100% quests but it is fun anyway.
