Introduction
Welcome to the New Tales from the Borderlands Trophy Guide! Within the perpetually war-torn metropolis of Promethea, you’ll control Anu, Octavio, and Fran on the worst day of their lives, help their endeavor to change the world (and maybe even save it). This is the second installment in the Tales from the Borderlands series, with the same episodic format as the first game. But this time it’s developed by Gearbox Software and not Telltale Games. Also, all 5 episodes are released at once.
Step 1: Play through the game, Collect All Vaultlanders and get a Good Skateboard Rating.
Just start the story and while playing it watch out that you always give the nicest answer when you have the option. Doing this will help you get a good skateboard rating at the end. Also, make sure you don’t fail quick-time events, this is also important for a good skateboard rating. You should also collect all Vaultlanders (Collectibles). Below are all trophies in chronological order, work on them as you play through the story (you can click the trophy name to jump to it):
- New Business
- Not Dolls. Action Figures! – see Vaultlander Figure Locations
- Each Sold Separately
- Don’t Get Cocky
- And Still Champion…
- Totally Intentional
- Murderous Mascot Mayhem
- Hey, Thanks!
- Mas, Por Favor
- Tale in the Toilet
- Super Trusting Friend!
- Those Were the Days…
- Bring Back the Butt!
- You Got the Goods, Kid
Step 2: Grind some money to buy all cosmetics
You need $120,000 to buy all cosmetics. When completing the story you should have around $60,000-$70,000. To get the rest you can replay Episode 5 Chapter 4 and collect all the money in the office. To save the money you collected, buy one item from the Quick-Change station inside the office, quit to the Main Menu, and press continue. Now repeat the process until you bought everything.
Step 3: Get all endings
There are five endings in total for You Played This Before?. You can get them via Chapter Select. You should only need to replay Episode 5 for it if you followed the Roadmap and got a high Skateboard rating on the first playthrough. See Endings Guide.

New Business Finish the game with a good skateboard rating. |
||
The skateboard rating is introduced by LOU13 during Episode 2 Chapter 2. It is an indicator of how well you work together as a team. Each action/answer you give from now on will have an impact on this rating. Also, the score influences how the story will end. A good rating is considered to be 80% or higher. At the end of each episode, you will see your skateboard rating. Also, you can see the rating you finished an episode with under the Extras Menu -> My Choices from the Main Menu. When finishing the game you need at least a score of 80% to get this trophy. Here are some tips:
If you pressed an answer you did not want, immediately close the game and restart it. Press continue in the main menu and try again. |
||
Not Dolls. Action Figures! Collect every Vaultlander figure. |
||
» New Tales from the Borderlands – All Vaultlander Figure Locations
Okay, Vain Much? Obtain every cosmetic. |
||
There are two ways of getting cosmetics. You can buy them in-game via Quick-Change Stations or through the Main Menu under Extras -> Customization. You need to play through the game at least once to unlock all cosmetics for buying. In total, you need $120,000 to buy all cosmetics.
Octavio:
Fran:
Anu:
When completing the story you should have around $60000-$70000. To get the rest you can replay Episode 5 Chapter 4 and collect all the money in the office. To save the money you collected, buy one item from the Quick-Change station inside the office, quit to the Main Menu, and press continue. Now repeat the process until you bought everything. |

||

Don’t Get Cocky Win a Vaultlanders battle. |
||
See And Still Champion…
And Still Champion… Win every Vaultlanders battle. |
||
There are 6 Vaultlander battles throughout the game.
All fights are very easy, all you have to do is spam attacks. When the opponent attacks, you only need to dodge the attacks by pressing the left stick in the direction the game tells you. Only one fight is story related, but you will get to the other fights while going for Not Dolls. Action Figures! because they give you a Vaultlander figure for winning them. |
||
We’re In Complete a hack. |
||
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. In Episode 1 Episode 3, you will reach a marketplace after escaping from a spaceship. To progress with the story you have to fix a radio which is where you get this trophy.
Who Needs Keys? Perform a Super Science Slap. |
||
At the very beginning of the game in Episode 1, you have to scan a Toolbox for story purposes. You can not miss that part. You take a pistol-looking device out of the box. A little minigame called “Find the sweet spots” starts automatically. For this trophy, do not skip this minigame. Instead, activate the Tech Goggles with / and rotate the device until you see a red glowing part at the top. Now just press to slap the device. You will get a “Slap Successful” message and the trophy will pop. However, if you skipped the minigame there will be multiple chances throughout the game where the same minigame will come up.
Totally Intentional Fail an action for the first time. |
||
To get this just fail any interaction throughout the game. This can be things like not answering in time or not pressing the correct buttons that are shown on screen in some interactions.
You Rich Now! Get the money from Sink or Swim. |
||
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. You earn this during Episode 3 Chapter 4 when you promote your device and win the game show.
You Poor Now! Spend the money from Sink or Swim. |
||
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. You earn this during Episode 4 Chapter 2 when you buy a new headquarter.
Murderous Mascot Mayhem Win a Vaultlanders battle using the Claptrap figure. |
||
Before every Vaultlander battle, you can choose which one you want to use in a battle. For this trophy, you need to unlock the Claptrap Figure in Episode 1 Chapter 3 before you can use him in any Vaultlander battle. See here: All Vaultlander Figure Locations. Claptrap is the weakest Vautlander and dies within one hit. In a battle, just spam attacks with Claptrap. When the opponent attacks, dodge the attacks with the left stick. The screen shows you in which direction you have to press the left stick.

Hey, Thanks! Watch the credits after finishing the game. |
||
Self-explanatory. After completing Episode 5 Chapter 6 the credits will roll. The credits are around 1 hour and 30 minutes long, you can fast-forward the credits but it’s not much faster. It does not count if you watch the credits via the Extras Menu from the Main Menu. You are not allowed to back out of the credits. So just keep the game running after finishing it until the credits are done and this unlocks.
Mas, Por Favor Wish for more tacos. |
||
In Episode 1 after you killed some soldiers with Brock (the gun with legs), a cutscene will start where you walk as Octavio with Lou13. A Tediore soldier will confront you and you will have 4 options with what you can answer. You can’t miss this part. Select the option “I wish I ate more tacos.” and the trophy will pop. If you click anything else, you can immediately return to the Main Menu and press continue from there. You can also replay Episode 1 Chapter 4 to get there quickly. But there is also one more chance to get this in Episode 2 Chapter 4 when fighting the Vault monster. Here you have to distract the monster with Octavio, if you do so, you will get an opportunity to give “I wish I ate more tacos.” as an answer.
Tale in the Toilet Reach a Tale Over for the first time. |
||
A Tale Over happens when you die. You can die by giving the wrong answers to some people or by failing some interactions in different parts of the game. One of the first opportunities to get this is in Episode 1 when you (as Octavio) walk with Lou13 to someone who Lou13 is gonna kill. When ringing the doorbell choose the following answers:
You will die and the trophy will pop. |
||
Super Trusting Friend! Perform every background check. |
||
There are six characters in total you need to do a background check on (you have to scan one of them twice, so seven background checks in total). You can do the first four characters after escaping with Anu from the spaceship in Episode 1, you will be in a marketplace walking around as Octavio. Your friends are all over the place here. When you go near them you can either press to talk to them or to do a background check, this background check is needed for this trophy. Do a background check on those characters here:
Lou13 (first time) Paco Danielle Radon The last three characters to scan are in Episode 5 Chapter 4. Fran Brock Lou13 (second time) The trophy will pop after doing a background check on all the characters above. |
||
Those Were the Days… Win the retro battle. |
||
The retro battle happens automatically in Episode 5 Chapter 4 when playing as Fran. To win this, all you need to do is choose “Attack” when asked what you wanna do for the first time and press the buttons the game shows you. Now on your second turn, choose “Assist”. This will summon the sexy intern employee and also unlocks Bring Back the Butt!. If the game shows you buttons on the screen again, press them. The fight will be over very soon.
Bring Back the Butt! Summon the Sexy Intern. |
||
See Those Were the Days…
You Got the Goods, Kid Nail a perfect, sexy dance. |
||
In Episode 4 Chapter 2 you will get a new employee, he will introduce himself with a dance. A little minigame will start, just press the left stick in the directions the game shows you. This is a very short sequence and not hard at all. |

Thank you for the trophy guide. It’s nice to see the Platinum trophy is easy to earn and that there aren’t any missable trophies but this looks way worse than the first game, so I’m skipping it.
OTPYG says
Thanks for he guide, however,
“Below are all trophies in chronological order, work on them as you play through the story (you can click the trophy name to jump to it):”
Your list in step 1 is not in chronological order and is also missing a few.
HardyBoy says
I didn’t put in the chapter related trophies as well as the few unmissable trophies that you earn anyway. So this list just contains the trophies you have to do something for in your first playthrough.
Mark says
The way game register “good” choices and cooperation is really weird for me. I tried to be as much paragon as I thought I could be and never failed a single QTE. Still I have only 75% of skateboard rating at the end of chapter 4.
ziggurcat says
Exactly. I have given answers I thought were the “nice” answers only to have them yell at me in anger. I think they should have some sort of indicator as to which answer is good, bad or neutral before you select.
Nikki_boagreis says
Great trophy guide, very detailed and well written. Look’s relatively easy, probably hold off on playing awhile with Star Ocean The Divine Force releasing. Waiting for a Star Ocean 6 trophy guide.
GaymerEllie says
What choices do I need to make to get the different characters death endings?
Pappafatsax says
So juniper has just been eaten by the vault monster because my team wasn’t “coordinated” enough. I feel like I’ve picked the most paragon answers since the beginning of the game. Does juniper need to survive to get platinum or is it better at this point to start over and try again?
Shauk says
This guide leaves a lot to be desired. Idk if you were trying to be funny by saying the end credits were an hour and a half long but I don’t understand why you’d write that about a 20 minute credit scene.
Furthermore knowing what dialogue results in what relationship changes is so vague. But thata not your fault I suppose as the game doesn’t communicate this with you whatsoever. But leaving a record of what decisions you made would have helped.
HardyBoy says
About the credits, I don’t know what credits you watched. But the trophy for watching the credits popped for me one hour and twenty-five minutes after I finished episode 5. I watched the whole credits without leaving the room. ABout the decisions, i was indeed thinking about including them before publishing the guide. But I felt like it was a bit too much to read through.
Slayfil543 says
Zero and Fiona aren’t unlocking even though my skateboard score is 80% and my relationships are all above 50%. Any help?
iAmFabled says
Same, Zer0 not unlocking despite a 90% skateboard rating. I also didn’t get the endings trophy despite seeing all endings.
InnesJack says
I can’t seem to get Oct ending. Today’s patch appears to take away the ability to replay episode 5. Well done devs. Proper mess they have made.
InnesJack says
Chapter 5 replay appears to be fixed now.
Fred says
Hi. How do you the autopop from PS4 to PS5?
PowerPyx says
There is no save transfer and no autopop (pointed out at the top of the guide).
ziggurcat says
Good guide as always, but the sub guide for the endings is a little flawed. The conditions outlined in that guide don’t seem to be accurate as I have personally gotten two endings that were outside of what is specified in that guide. For example, I got the all survive ending even though I had %’s under 50, and I also got the Anu dies even though the Anu/Ock % was well above 50%. My Fran/Anu % was even under 50%, and I still have not gotten the Fran died ending. That guide also doesn’t explain how to get each of the endings – i.e. what choices need to be made to ensure you get those outcomes. It feels like one might have to go back to almost the beginning of the game in order to correct some of the %’s, but the guide says you can get most of the endings replaying Episode 5, which also doesn’t seem to be accurate since I have only ever gotten the two endings, despite making different dialogue choices, etc…
ziggurcat says
Also, I am a little confused about a part in the game: When Reba comes to do the insurance evaluation, I have Hank frozen in the back (intact), and I let Reba into the back area, then she grants the money, and leaves without any incident. Whichever Episode later, Anu goes into the back of the Frogurt shop, and there’s Reba… frozen, with Hank shattered to bits at her feet. Is this supposed to be like that or did the game screw something up for me when I reloaded a checkpoint?
Remy says
Funny how I always start Episode 5 with 70% Skateboard Rate and can NEVER increase my rate. First time I went blindly and got 48% only with decisions while nailing all QTEs. Then I followed a guide which supposedly gave all answers which increased your Skateboard Rate and got 68% LOL
This game man honestly…One probably has to reach Episode 5 with like 85% or more in order to try and drop as little as possible since the drop is apparently guaranteed.
Besides that, can’t seem to unlock Z3r0 and Ellie dolls. Why God, why…
Jamie Fletcher says
What choices do you have to make exactly in chapter 5 after doing the best ending, for the four remaining endings ? I ask because I read one guide saying replay episode 5, chapter 4 – don’t hug Anu and Oct as Fran and don’t say her name during the killshot moment with Susan, to get the Fran death ending. Did exactly that, still got the best ending again for the third time in a row.
