Sinister Cloth is a crafting component in Monster Hunter World. It is used to craft armor pieces of the Death Stench armor set.
Sinister Cloth is one of the rarest (if not the rarest) items in the game.
Location:
Unlike other items, Sinister Cloth is not gathered in the open world. It’s a random drop from sending your Palicos on high-rank Tailraider Safaris with 4-star monsters (similar to Great Hornfly which is a random cultivation reward). It’s complete luck and if you’re looking for a quick way to get it, there is none. It’s something you have to work on over time.
The most reliable way to get it is by sending your tailraiders on a Safari to Coral Highlands and pick a path with the monsters “Legiana” and “Paolumu”. These two monsters have the best chance to drop a Sinister Cloth. To make it crystal clear and avoid confusion: killing these monsters yourself has zero chance of a Sinister cloth dropping. It can only drop in Tailraider Safaris which is a random minigame. You can send out your Palicos to gather resources while you go do your own quests. Each Tailraider Safari lasts for the duration of 5 quests. After you’ve done 5 quests you can retrieve all the rewards and send out another Safari.
Safaris can be sent out in the Research Base (talk to the guy on lower floor) and later by talking to your housekeeper in Astera. This costs a few research points but you’ll earn some good loot from it. Sinister Cloth can also drop from other 4-star monsters such as Great Jagras in Ancient Forest, but this is rarer. Legiana and Paolumu are the safest bet (Paolumu more so than Legiana, always go for Paolumu).
To sum it up: always send you tailraiders on a Safari to Coral Highlands and pick the path with the most 4-star monsters (ideally Paolumu and Legiana). After 5 quests check back for the rewards and send out another Safari. Rinse and repeat.
