Monster Hunter World: How to Unlock More Crafting Recipes & Ingredients

January 25, 2018 by PowerPyx 2 Comments

When you start Monster Hunter World you will only have access to the most basic crafting recipes & ingredients (such as health potions). So now you may wonder what’s with all the question marks in the crafting list.

  • The way crafting works is that ingredients only get revealed in the list once you’ve found them.
  • So if you go on expeditions and gather everything in the open world carefully you will reveal new ingredients in the crafting list.
  • In the crafting list you will then see the question marks turn from grey to white, indicating that the item is ready to be crafted.
  • After you’ve crafted it once, the recipe & resulting item will be displayed permanently.

As you progress through the game you will unlock new playable areas. Each area has its own unique set of gathering ingredients (herbs, mushrooms, bugs, bones, ore etc.). Furthermore, on the area map it marks the ingredients you’ve already found. This includes plants and wildlife. When you need something specific, enable the map filter “Gathering” and zoom in on the map to find it.

Pro Tip: Keep your pouch as empty as possible when going on expeditions. You should always store excess materials in the chest in Astera (one is at the entrance gate by the questboard, one is at the smithy, one is at the canteen). When you need to craft something, go back to that chest and craft it from there. This lets you use the material straight from the chest rather than your pouch. It’s a good way to keep things organized, and you’ll need the free inventory space to pick up new ingredients. When your inventory is full, return to Astera to drop everything in the chest. Alternatively, you can also go inside the tent at a fast-travel camp to store your excess materials, thus saving you a trip to Astera.

When u go into Expedition/Quests you can also Interact with the Camp tent. You can go Inside and Access your Item Box, Change Equipment,Access your cat Gear etc. You can basically stay in Expedition mode for as long as you can and just drop off stuff into you Item box Via the tent. You can also Switch Weapons/Gear if you think u need to change up your playstyle for a certain monster you were hunting 🙂 U still have to Go back to Astera to hand in Research and bounties tho 🙂
