Monster Hunter World How to Start Iceborne DLC

September 4, 2019 by PowerPyx 24 Comments

Monster Hunter World has gotten bigger with the Iceborne Expansion (DLC). This guide explains how to start the Iceborne DLC in Monster Hunter World (MHW):

  1. You must have installed the Iceborne expansion.
  2. You must have beaten Monster Hunter World’s main story, which puts you at Hunter Rank 16 (HR16) automatically.
  3. Then you will receive a tutorial screen saying a new major expedition is about to begin “A Legiana has been sighted in the Ancient Forest”.
  4. Talk to Feisty Fiver who is standing left of the quest board in Astera (the hub world).
  5. This starts a quest in which you must walk after the handler in Ancient Forest until a series of cutscenes trigger. Afterward, your Hunter Rank cap gets removed and the new difficulty Master Rank (MR) is unlocked.
  6. Talk to the Commander in Astera and you will leave to the DLC’s new world “Hoarfrost Reach”.
  7. In Hoarfrost Reach defeat the first large Monster “Beotodus” to finish the first Iceborne Quest. You’ll then be brought to Selina, your new base of operations. This new hub area has its own merchants and quest board. Talk to the characters there and accept new story assignments from the quest board.

Enjoy your Monster Hunter Iceborne adventure.

I have the same problem. Any fix?

Did you buy the DLC digitally or on disc?
If you bought it digitally, on PS4 you can try the “restore licenses” option (PS4 Settings > Account Management), sometimes it just doesn’t recognize a DLC was bought and this can fix it.

Also make sure you downloaded the latest patch.

Another thing I noticed, if the Iceborne DLC was installed properly the title screen should say “Monster Hunter World Iceborne” and there will be a new tutorial screen about the clutch claw in the title screen (BEFORE loading your save game).
If you didn’t get this, it means something is wrong with the DLC installation (try the above from my last comment, or reinstall/redownload the game as a last resort if nothing helps).

Also make sure account is activated on your console (PS4 Settings > Account Management > Activate as Primary). If it isn’t activated it can mess with the DLC.

    Is it region lock issue?

If your main game and DLC are from a different region then yes, they are not compatible. Both must be from same region (if your main game is the USA version, the DLC also needs to be USA version).

But if is region lock why am I able to download and install the dlc, and the fiesty fiver is there too it just doesn’t prompt any tutorial. I don’t understand how region lock work in dlc is I still able to download and install but can’t use it?

So I’m having the same issue everyone else said they have, so ( on Xbox one ) I went to uninstall it and the Iceborne expansion disappeared and wasn’t in the ready to install section like it should. So now it’s just completely gone for me, I’m hoping Capcom’s Customer support actually helps me and responds soon

Not sure if this is to late but for Xbox one players that bought the Disc do the following:

    Insert disc in console
    Scroll over the iceborne image
Click on the burger menu next to the blue x button on your controller
Select the option that takes you to the Xbox store.
Once here you should see an install button where the buy button should normaly be.
Click on install and wait a few minutes
After the message pops up that the game has installed go back to MH and open the game. You should see that you are going into iceborne instead of world.

    Hope this helps.

    Hunt well!
