Whopper is an endemic lifeform in Monster Hunter Wilds, required for The Catch of a Lifetime! side mission. After accepting the The Catch of a Lifetime! side mission you must catch a Whopper using the Capture Net, then return to the quest giver.
The Catch of a Lifetime! Side Mission Start:
The Catch of a Lifetime! side quest starts by talking to Kanya in Scarlet Forest Base Camp. This is her fourth quest after “Fishing for Favor“.
Whopper Location:
Whopper is simply a classification for any large fish that triggers the reeling minigame. Any fish that meets this criteria will count. Best place to catch Whoppers is the large lake in Scarlet Forest Area 17. On the deep side of the lake where you can’t walk (opposite where the waterfall drops down) you can often see a disturbance in the water, this indicates fish are there. Look out for larger than normal fish such as Tuna and Swordfish. Easiest option is to catch Gastronome Tuna using the “Tuff Joint Bait” given by Kanya at the start of the quest. Gastronome Tuna spawn especially in Morning during “Plenty” weather. Rest at the portable BBQ Grill or in your tent to change to Morning/Plenty. You can make a popup camp at Area 17: Great Lake Shore (on the tree overlooking the lake), then fast travel to another map to respawn all fish/endemics, travel back to Camp 17 until Tuna spawns. Tuna is recognized by it’s large size. After a Whopper bites, you need to move the left stick in the same direction the fish is swimming in. When the fish gets tired, repeatedly press
to reel it in. Try to reel it in 3-4 times while it’s tired, flipping the stick up/down each time. The more often you do this the closer the fish will get to the shore until you eventually pull it out of the water.
Remember that endemics/fishes don’t have a 100% guaranteed spawn rate. They have fixed places where they can spawn but won’t be there every single time. If the endemic isn’t there for you, fast travel to another map and come back, this will respawn all endemics. Repeat this until you find the endemic in the suggested location. You can also rest at the portable BBQ Grill or in your tent to skip to a different daytime and weather effect, this also respawns everything but costs 300 guild points.
