Monster Hunter Wilds Sandstar Location (Samin’s Special Research Report Side Mission)

February 26, 2025 by PowerPyx 1 Comment

Sandstar is an endemic lifeform in Monster Hunter Wilds, required for Samin’s Special Research Report side mission. After accepting the Samin’s Special Research Report side mission you must catch a Sandstar using the Capture Net, then return to the quest giver.

Samin’s Special Research Report Side Mission Start:

Samin’s Special Research Report side quest starts by talking to Samin in Windward Plains Base Camp. It’s part of the Dareel/Samin questline to catch various endemics.

Sandstar Location:

At night in Area 13 of Windward Plains you can sometimes spot a blue shining mouse. This is the Sandstar. You have to chase it on your Seikret (your mount) and catch it with your Capture Net. It is extremely fast and it is a bit luck-based if you can catch it. Sometimes it just stops for a short moment giving you a chance. After it stops, it sometimes runs back in your direction, if you throw the capture net you can catch it. Sometimes it will stumble on the ground for a few seconds. Sometimes it runs into other monsters and gets stunned which makes it easy to catch. It can take a few minutes of chasing it around. It will also unlock the I Caught a Shooting Star! trophy trophy. You can rest at the portable BBQ Grill or in your tent to change the time to “Nighttime” and environment to “Plenty”.

Remember that endemics/fishes don’t have a 100% guaranteed spawn rate. They have fixed places where they can spawn but won’t be there every single time. If the endemic isn’t there for you, fast travel to another map and come back, this will respawn all endemics. Repeat this until you find the endemic in the suggested location.

You can use a screamer pod to stun it and switch over to Capture net and easily grab this one.
Screamer pod is a default item in the loadout in Wilds, so everyone should have it.
