Monster Hunter Wilds features 29 large monsters at the time of its launch. 26 of these have both a large gold crown and miniature gold crown, for a total of 52 crowns. For a list of all monsters and their locations refer to Monster Hunter Wilds All Monsters List.
In previous Monster Hunter games the crown hunt was notoriously long and grindy. This time it’s much faster. Here’s how you can speed up the crown hunt:
1. Use Binoculars to see Crown Sizes: With the binoculars get close to a monster (about 50 meters) and watch it. A crown will show up under its name if the monster is big or small enough for a crown. This way you know upfront if a monster is worth fighting, making it more predictable.
2. Saving Crown Monsters as Investigations / Crown-Trading with Friends: You can save the investigations for a crown monster you have found (up to 50 investigations can be saved) and share them with your friends and they can share theirs with you to “trade crowns”. When you find a monster that awards a crown you can press Touchpad and then to open up the monster list and press
on the crown-awarding monster, which will let you save it as an investigation for later. This will allow you to do the same hunt, with the exact same size monster 3 more times. You can also go to Alma after a Field Survey and view the recent ones, then can still save the investigation after the hunt. This enables the community to work together and trade crowns quests with each other. One person can carry 9 other players by inviting them to the initial hunt and the 3 investigations afterward. By trading the crowns players will be able to get them done in no time. Since you can save 50 investigations and one gold crown (Doshaguma large crown) is guaranteed, you can basically save 50 out of the 51 crown monsters in your investigations and carry someone to the platinum with no effort whatsoever on their part. This turns a long grind into a matter of hours.
3. You can quickly change the monsters freeroaming the map: At your portable BBQ you can choose to REST and then choose the weather and time of the day for a map. This will reload all the monsters available on all maps if you don’t see any you still need.
4. You can save-scum the crown hunt: Since you see exactly when a monster will spawn with a progress bar, you can save your progress just before it spawns (about 30 sec before it spawns, not less though) and see if it has a crown. If it doesn’t you can leave to the main menu without saving and reload to try your luck again until it has a crown. You can basically try once a minute for a crown, it might take some time but is still way faster than everything else apart from someone sharing their crowns with you. The monster will only be appointed a size shortly before it spawns, so do not save too close to its spawning time but like 30 sec away from its spawning, otherwise you might be getting the same size over and over again when you save too close to the time of its spawn. Make sure to be offline for this method though.
5. Cruise between online lobbies: You can also just keep cruising between online lobbies to see if one has a crown you need and hunt the monster there.
Technically, if someone were to carry you through all crown hunts with a full team of 4 players, you could finish all crowns in around 6-10 hours. If you do them solo on your own it will take longer but thanks to the binoculars and other tricks it can be done in around 25-35 hours, somewhat dependent on luck and how good your equipment is.
