Mafia 1 Remake Definitive Editon has 12 Phone Booth Jobs (Phone Booth Side Quest Missions). If you’re wondering whether Mafia 1 Remake has side quests, the answer is yes and they come in form of secret phone booths in Free Ride. These are only available in Free Ride. They don’t unlock any trophy or achievement directly, but you get 5 cars from phone booths which helps with the Motor Museum trophy.
Phone Booths are the only side missions in the game and they involve timed racing challenges. First you must read some notes at Salieri’s Bar in Little Italy (the place where you spawn in Free Ride) to trigger the phone booths. Then certain phone booths will ring and can be interacted with, which starts the racing challenge. Completing them unlocks 5 new cars and several costumes.
None of these are missable. If a challenge fails, you will respawn in front of the phone booth and can retry it as many times as you want. It’s worth noting that phone booths cannot be interacted with while in a police chase. The first phone booth challenge must be done before the rest unlocks. The last one only unlocks after doing all the others.
For all other collectibles check out the Mafia 1 Remake Collectibles Guide.
How Phone Booth Jobs work:
- In Free Ride, read the note on the pool table at Salieri’s Bar (Little Italy) to activate first phone booth.
- Complete first phone booth challenge.
- At Salieri’s Bar 10 new notes will spawn (some downstairs, some upstairs). Read them all. Each note unlocks a new phone booth.
- Now you can play the remaining phone booth challenges. They can be done in any order, except the last one which requires you to do all other phone booths first.
Step 1: Unlocking Phone Booth Quests
First, you will want to select Free Ride from the Title Screen (becomes available after first story chapter). You will always spawn at Salieri’s Bar in Little Italy (it’s a named area on the map). Enter Salieri’s Bar and read the note on the pool table (ground floor). If it’s not here, advance the story a little further, it should be here any time after doing the 3rd story chapter. Reading the note activates the first phone booth. Only one booth unlocks for now and you must finish this one before other booths unlock.
Below is an image of the note and its location.
Phone Booth #1
After reading the above-mentioned note, you can now head to the phone booth in the very west of Little Italy. The phone will be ringing and can be interacted with. Make sure to complete this so that more notes spawn at Salieri’s bar for unlocking new phone booths.
Reward: Unlocks new car in garage (Crazy Horse)
Step 2: Collect 10 Notes at Salieri’s Bar
Head back to Salieri’s Bar in Little Italy, where you picked up the first note.
After completing the first phone booth, 10 new notes are available here. Read them all! Each note unlocks a new phone booth. If not all of them have spawned it’s because you haven’t beaten the story yet (they will all be available after the story).
After reading them all, the remaining phone booths will unlock. You can do them in any order (except the last one, which requires doing all others first).

Reward: Unlocks Alien Costume
Phone Booth #12
After doing all previous 11 phone booth challenges, a new note appears in Salieri’s bar upstairs. Grab this note to unlock the 12th and final phone booth.

The notes doesn’t appear in the bar after the first mission… do we have to advance the main story a little more?
PowerPyx says
I checked after the 4th story mission had started and it was there 🙂
mypie101 says
For me, (ps4) The notes seem to appear in order I’ve done one and only the 2nd note appeared next to the stairs all the others haven’t appeared. Also the images of the notes do not correspond with your pictures of the phone booths. I’ve read the 2nd note but I’m not sure it’s for the 2nd booth you have pictured.
PowerPyx says
I did this after the story and all notes appeared simultaneously.

On phone booth 6 with Betty and engine trouble it’s impossible to make it in the time.. any tips?
krzychu1202 says
empty fuel :D not broken engine
AWESOMO5000Z says
There are service stations (gas/petrol stations) along the way, you need to stop and fill up at them, I stopped at 3. First one NE of Lansom Stadium, second one was Bertone’s autoservice, third is just under the train line on N/NW of Central Island. You can see the old-timey pump icon on the map.
Mac says
Betty has a busted fuel line. Keep your eye on the gas tank and plan your route in such a way as to hit every Trago station from Holbrook to the Works Quarter, and you should make it there by the skin of your teeth.
Bloodstone says
You have to set manual transmission. And just get some speed, and set car to neutral, and again get some speed and put neutral, and best way for that is chinatown bridge, you got gas station on your way + most of the time you go just straight.
Jayce Frutos says
Problem, everytime I try the first booth after the Crazy Horse, I loose audio and 10 seconds later my game crashes. Everytime. Any ideas?
Fooga says
which one’s specifically reward cars?
Quiller says
Phone booth Nr. 6 and 7.
Diego says
I checked just at the beginning of chapter 4 and nothing…. I checked at the beginning of Chapter 5 and nothing (and yes, I completed the first phone mission)
PowerPyx says
The first phone booth I activated after chapter 4. The rest I did after the story (hadn’t checked the other booths before then).
JimZap says
Any chance you will be making a video on this? Some of these can be pretty tough unless you figure out an exact route.
Lacek84 says
Which 4 do I need to complete for the remaining 4 cars? (got the first one)
Gotrek Fabian says
I’ve completed the story, done the first eleven phone booth missions but the note isn’t showing up for the last phone booth mission for me. It seems that you may need to have all collectibles as well for this mission. Just a few more to go, I’ll see what happens…
Gotrek Fabian says
Scratch that, it seems that I missed one of the missions somehow (Mr Fancy Bike) although I did complete all the collectibles prior to finding this out.
Sphiynx says
If anyone on PC is stuck on booth 8 – The Old Switcheroo because one or more of the cars is missing/glitches/clips out/is instantly destroyed, there is a fix.
The game only runs in 60Hz mode. So if you’re running say a 27″ monitor @ 144Hz that won’t fly.
Switch the game down to 1920×1080 resolution and run it in windowed mode. Also set the preset graphics to “Low”.
These are default settings for 60Hz and the game is much more stable for just this mission.
All other missions can be run at whatever you like.

i got all 5 hidden cars but i did not get the trophy, any suggestions?
Elegy says
The hidden cars aren’t phone booth missions you need to go to Lucas Bertone’s garage after the story and pick up postcards
jc says
completed game, notes do not appear in free ride in the bar, none of them. I replayed and completed again entire game, still no notes at bar. I was able to go to Bretons auto and get the 5 postcards and track down all 5 car. do you need to be connected for these notes to appear??
PowerPyx says
The Postcards aren’t needed to make the notes appear.
Everything works as described in the guide. You pick up the first note from pool table, do the first phone booth, then the rest of the notes spawn which unlock a phone booth each. If the notes don’t appear, it means you haven’t completed the first phone booth successfully. If you did that, completed the story, and they still don’t spawn it must be bugged somehow.
Teflongangster1 says
Whenever I go to the phonebooth in Chinatown I loose audio and it crashes my game and console, is there any known fixes?
jc says
deleted entire game progress re-played and finished it again, went to free ride no notes at bar or on pool table, went to Bretons got 5 postcards got 4 of 5 cars, went to last car (disorder) but when opened that garage it said disorder however car in that garage was the yellow Hudson car coupe. took back to shop, Lucas said “looks like you got them all” however the disorder car does not appear in garage. seems like a lot of glitches. xbox one. disappointed to say the least. any help appreciated
jc says
possible that there are already new updates that are needed? as I am playing this game while not being connected. is that the issue?
jc says
The first time I played it after completing chapter 6 the chap 7 intro played with no sound, then it would say you died as soon as it went to actual game play. had to restart from last check point to correct, but when it restarted it started me back on chapter 3 , did the same around chap 14, back to chapter 9, ended up having to replay multiple chapters as there is only auto save which it doesn’t seem to always do. the last time I replayed it the plane that you are trying to shoot down on the runway did not appear, so I had to restart console 4 times to have it appear. another glitch. any help would be great. and again no notes at bar after completing game and going to free ride. so anything else to do in free ride if notes don’t appear? other then getting he 5 hidden cars for Lucas? thanks

POWERPYX can u guide me how to get pass through the race in classic difficulty
Semper Why says
I played the original Mafia back when it was released. The race was not an easy mission. It’s key to remember that tire technology back then was terrible. The cars have terrible grip.
You can’t power slide through turns like a Need For Speed game. Brake late to set your intended speed, get off the brake, turn the wheel, then straighten up and punch it when your hood aligns with your intended direction. You’ll slide a bit, but for the most part you will go where your hood points.
Kracca says
I have problem with #7. When I finish, the game crash. Please any ideas what whit this problem?
Mrcan1970 says
I have tried that one many times and every time it crashes my game
DIO says
Just a warning. DO NOT DO Phone Booth #7. It will corrupt your save data.
PowerPyx says
That must be a really unlucky isolated case, sorry to hear that happened to you.
I haven’t heard of that happening to anyone else though.
Papi says
Was at 81% of platinum, finished the game in classic mode, got most of the collectibles, 33/36 cars, and made it to the Phone Booth #7 for the Waybar Concept. I Finished the mission a first time and the game froze immediatly after. I reload the game, go back to the phone booth and finish the course a second time. The game froze one more time at the same point (just after the finish). Then I reload the game to find that my save data got corrupted in the process and ALL my progress that far has been erased… No more save data, no more free ride mode, carcyclopedia got erased too, and my collection got from 97% to 0% … I wonder why the f*** such issues aren’t fixed months after the release… Such a waste of time…!

There is no note on the pool table I don’t know what to do.i actually finished the game
Semper Why says
Be sure to select Free Ride from the main menu. It will start you off behind Salieri’s Bar. The note should be available then.
If not, select Story from the main menu and then Continue. It may force you to play the last mission again. Do so, then let all the cutscenes roll and let the credits play. Go make a sandwich or something.
When the credits complete, you should be able to select Free Ride and the first note will be on the pool table.
