This Lost Judgment walkthrough will guide you through all the main choices of Chapter 1 for 100% completion.
Chapter 1 Walkthrough
Prologue
The game starts off with everyone’s favorite activity from the first Judgment, tailing. Follow Kosuke through Kamurocho, stopping at the marked spots and following the tutorials leading through the tailing mechanics such as “acting casual” with .
You’ll shortly also be given a tutorial on the picture-taking mechanics, which involve proper zoom level, focus, and capturing specific events that happen while observing the targets.
Continue following Kosuke, then you’ll be attacked by some thugs who recognize Yagami. This functions as the initial combat tutorial, where the game gives the general combat basics for the Crane style. If you feel you don’t need the tutorial you can skip with , then continue tailing Kosuke. He will eventually go into a Poppo, where you need to snap another picture of him using the ATM.
After the tailing is complete you will automatically see Kosuke go into a nearby building. You’ll now be introduced to active search, and need to first check the window above for an entry point into the building, then the air conditioning units in the alley for a way inside.
Now you will be shown the parkour tutorial, which is normally used to climb buildings to get inside without being spotted. Climb up until Yagami stands on the ledge, then follow it around and then use the next set of pipes and ducts on the wall to get to the window and get inside.
You will be attacked by two men inside, and then be given the initial tutorial for Tiger style. You can skip the tutorial again if you want and just beat the guys up.
You’ll now be introduced to stealth, which you use at times to sneak into locations you aren’t supposed to be in. After being prompted to look at the guy near the elevator, go into the nearby room where the other person is sleeping on a chair. Go near him and grab the keys off the table, then out the other door of the room using the key and left into the stairwell to the top floor.
The door at the top is locked, and you are now introduced to lock picking, using the sticks to manipulate your pick and move the pins to the appropriate location to open the door.
Inside there will be a man in your way, and you will be prompted to use a coin toss to distract him. Throw it on the ground nearby, then get behind him and knock him out.
After the cutscenes you will be out in an alley fighting Kosuke on his own, followed by him and a group of men from the gambling den from before. This fight works as the EX Boost tutorial, which you can skip as always.
Kosuke tries to run away, and you’re introduced to your first chase of the game. Avoid the obstacles in your way with button presses and stick movements until you catch up with the target.
After a number of cutscenes head into Genda Law Office and speak to Genda. You’ll be shown a whole bunch of cutscenes about some of the events happening going forward, then head outside to speak to Kaito. Let him know when you’re ready to continue because you will head to a different location and have a large fight happening right away.
Kosuke leads you to the bar, where you have to fight a large number of men inside. The game also now prompts you about upgrading your Skills, which you can with a couple from the SP you’ve gained so far. After the fight, you’ll have a large amount more story, then automatically return to the outside of Genda Law Office.
Heading to Ijincho
Now with Kaito, you can head back to Yagami Detective Agency. When you arrive he’ll sit on the couch, and wait for you to say you’re ready. You can decline and run around in Kamurocho for a bit if you want, or just stop right now. You’ll be shown some more cutscenes, then the opening movie of the game, and finally the actual Chapter 1 title.
You’ll now be in Ijincho, a familiar location if you played Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Follow the objective to Yokohama 99 where you’re meant to be meeting up with some friends. On the way you will intervene in some delinquents harassing a restaurant owner, and will then be given the tutorial on using the Snake combat style, a new one for this game focused on disarming opponents and stopping them by scaring them.
After the delinquents are dealt with you can continue to Yokohama 99 to meet up with Tsukumo and Sugiura, who have set up their own detective agency in Ijincho. They tell you about a case they want your help with and get you to go over to a location in Chinatown to meet the Chairman of the private high school in the city. During the conversation with him you can respond in whichever ways you want, there aren’t any “wrong” answers, and you will eventually receive all the information you need before continuing.
After the conversations are done you will return to Yokohama 99 and have a few more tutorial sections to complete. Tsukumo wants you to race to one of the pawnshops to pick something up for him, and Sugiura gives you a skateboard he has to get there quicker. The skateboard is the fastest way to get around the large area of Ijincho, and you can obtain more as the game progresses that have better stats. Race to Ebisu Pawn marked on the map to pick up the item for Tsukumo. When you arrive you’ll have to fight a man who was trying to resell the same item, and you will fight him outside.
You will then automatically return to Yokohama 99, where you can choose to call it a night and continue with the story or leave and explore the city for a while if you wish.
Seiryo High School
Before leaving for Seiryo High School you’ll be prompted to put on the prepared disguise from the menu. After doing that you can head outside and take the taxi to the school.
At the school, you will be searching for locations to set up spy cameras. Follow Kaito inside, then into the next section of the school building. You’ll automatically move up to the second floor, then can follow the objective marker up the flights of stairs. Once you reach the top floor a janitor will be in your way of placing it in the final stairwell, and you need to search around for a way to get him to move. Inspect the water bottle beside him, then move to his other side and inspect the cigarette that he’s hiding from you.
Speak to him, and you’ll have a number of options to pick from to get him to move. Answer more or less how you want, though I prefer the option to report him for smoking. You’ll set up the final camera automatically once he leaves, then go back downstairs to meet up with Kaito again.
You will next go to set up some cameras in a classroom but will be stopped by a teacher be you look pretty suspicious. You can answer how you want, but saying “The chairman hired us.” is a pretty diplomatic and also true statement. She’ll then ask what the chairman’s name is, to which you should reply “Okuda-san — how could I forget?”. You’ll automatically place the camera in the classroom, then you’ll need to head to the gymnasium to meet back up with Tsukumo and Sugiura.
Watching the cameras you’ll notice some stuff going down, and will need to go back down to classroom 2-2. Inside you will need to inspect the girl at the desk with her head down. Look at her hand, her notebook, and her head to continue, then head to the chairman’s office on the third floor.
You’ll be going over the video footage with the chairman to show him the bullying. When you have the option, choose “The onlookers are the problem.”
After the rest of the scenes, it will now be after school, and you need to go check on one of the cameras you placed before. Turns out a student found it and reported it to a teacher, and they’ve caught you returning to the scene. You’ll jump out a window and be on the outside wall of the school. Follow the path to the right along the pipes, then drop down and follow the rooftop. Follow the marker up to the gymnasium rooftop, then jump off to the lower area to get back inside.
You’ll now need to sneak by some police officers to get back to classroom 2-2. Inspect the officer at the end of the hall so that he moves, then go down the hall and try going down the stairs to see that you’re blocked. Go up the stairs to try to get to the rooftop, where the game will then prompt you on using smoke bombs to sneak by enemies.
Smoke the guy at the top of the stairs and head onto the school rooftop. There will be three officers on the roof speaking with students, you will just need to watch for the one at the end who walks back and forth and can spot you when you’re going for the door going back inside.
Go inside and continue down the stairs where you’ll need to distract another officer so that you can get to the second floor. You then need to watch the guy in the hallway who walks back and forth in your way. You can move forward when he’s looking the other way and distract him when you reach a nearby wall that you can hide behind.
When you reach the classroom you will need to set up some speakers. Interact with the marked desk and they will be placed automatically. You’ll then be attacked by some rowdy students who think you’re creeping around causing trouble. This is more or less the first “boss fight” of the game, in which the big guy Ya-kun having much more health than any of the other enemies. You’ll also be told about deadly attacks and mortal counters, which are used to counter the powerful charge attacks some enemies and bosses do once you drain a lot of their health.
After the fight is over there will be some more scenes, then you will need to return to Yokohama 99. Choose to rest on the couch when you’re ready to continue the story. In the morning you will need to head back to the high school, where you will have a number of cutscenes leading into the end of the chapter.
