Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii has a total of 31 Substories. All Substories take place in Hawaii, with the first being available in Chapter 2 and becoming available as you progress the story. Substories typically unlock a minigame, or a pirate crew member. The Minato Girls also each have their own substory that must be completed for the trophy/achievement My Dream Minato Girl. Completing substories is required for the following trophies:

Taking the Scenic Route – Completed 10 substories. - Main Story? What’s That? – Completed 20 substories.
- My Dream Minato Girl – Partied with the Minato Girls and found true love.
- High-Speed Pirate – Won 3 different cups in Dragon Kart.
- Erudite Pirate – Obtained 5 certificates from the Ounabara Vocational School.
- Crazy Captain – Completed all Crazy Delivery courses.
Unlike typical Yakuza/Like a Dragon games, you aren’t required to complete substories to face Amon, as this is tied to the Pirates’ Coliseum which has its own task section and these aren’t counted as substories. It is recommended you still complete most substories though as you receive several high level crew members either directly as rewards or from completing activities unlocked by the substories.
Substories
#1 – Kamulop, Fortunes Unfolded
This substory is story-related and occurs automatically in Chapter 2 after leaving the bullseye to look for Clark. It unlocks the Fortune Exchange and causes the fortune slips to appear around Hawaii.
#2 – The Symbol of the City Street Surfer
This substory is story-related and occurs automatically in Chapter 2. It unlocks the Street Surfer for use in the city.
#3 – An Alo-Happy Rally
The start of this substory is story-related and occurs in Chapter 2. It unlocks the Photo Rally side activity. The substory is complete until you recruit Elizabeth to the Goro Pirates after completing at least two photo rally sets.

#4 – The Kitten in District Five
This substory is story-related and occurs automatically in Chapter 2 while going toward the Diamond Head bar. It unlocks the pet rescue objectives which allow you to obtain more pets for the Goro Goro Kingdom on Rich Island.
Chapter 2 – Located in Sunset Park by the fountain
This substory unlocks the Crazy Delivery minigame. Complete the initial course to complete the substory and unlock the remaining courses to play.
#6 – The Smartest Pirate Crew!
Chapter 2 – Located at the Ounabara Vocational School
This substory unlocks the Ounabara Vocational School minigame. You must complete one initial course with a 3 out of 5. In all courses, the questions are randomly selected from a pool and the answer order is randomized, but you have 30 seconds for each question so you are able to quickly search keywords to find the answers.
Chapter 2 – Located at Dragon Kart near the Harbor
This substory unlocks the Dragon Kart minigame. You must complete the initial race to complete the substory and unlock the rest of the minigame.
#8 – The Fastest in Hawaii
Chapter 2 – Located at Dragon Kart near the Harbor
This substory starts automatically once you have won the three Grand Prix and the three Duel missions. You can then challenge Ran in an elimination duel (this is a race, not a knockout battle like the other duels). Make sure to select your correct kart beforehand, fully upgraded Ignition Shadow is a good choice. You need to avoid being knocked out as this counts as a loss immediately, so be sure to watch your health.
#9 – The Path to Speed
Chapter 2 – Located at Dragon Kart near the Harbor
This substory is started by speaking with Ran again after you have completed The Fastest in Hawaii. This time you will have an elimination duel against the Robo Michio squad. It is recommended you purchase the Rising Dragon and fully upgrade it for this match, as it has the best overall stats. The Michios will only attack you so you need to take out each one yourself. New in this duel are explosive barrels you need to watch for spread around the area. Try to continually grab and use the shield picks and ignore the rockets, then aim to attack the Michios hard when you have the shield up. There is also a lightning pickup in the middle of the area that will hit all the enemies at once that you can try to camp.
#10 – Snap Those Sickos! Again!
Chapter 2 – Located at Aloha Beach Trolley Stop
This substory unlocks the Sicko Snap minigame. Call the trolley and then ride it to trigger the substory. Complete the initial course to unlock the remaining courses for play and to complete this substory.
#11 – The Sicko Snap Saga
Chapter 2 – Located at Aloha Beach Trolley Stop
After completing the three Sicko Snap courses, speak with Kuroki again to trigger this substory. Speak with him again and choose the new course “Snap on Crystal Papillon Island”. If you successfully pass the completion score you will face the Crystal Pallioon at the end, where you need to snap him multiple times when his crystal is visible to deplete his health bar. If you reach around a quarter health remaining in the last 20 seconds he’ll fall over, allowing you to finish him off. If you don’t successfully deplete his health bar the course still counts as complete, but you won’t complete the substory. Once you have successfully snapped the Crystal Papillon you will complete the substory.
Note this substory awards the Scope Ring, which reveals Fortune Slips and Treasure Chests on your minimap when worn.
#12 – The Magic of Food
Chapter 2 – Located at Soleil Restaurant
Order any food from Soleil to start this substory. You can order something again immediately, then leave the area and come back to and speak with the chef. Order something again, then leave and come back to speak with him one more time. You will then have a fight against two men to complete the substory.
#13 – Smile Again
Chapter 2 – Located on the north side of Worldwide Market Village at Jeff’s Taco Truck.
Purchase items from Jeff’s truck, leaving the area in between. The third time you return you’ll need to fight a group of enemies which completes the substory.
#14 – Goro’s Heart
Chapter 2 – Located in Anaconda Harbor Park
Agree to participate in the inventor’s test, then go through all of the scenes. You can respond however you like, and you’ll receive your money back at the end of the substory.
#15 – If I Weren’t An Idol
Chapter 2 – Located at Orphanage taxi stop
Agree to go on the tour, then after the scenes make your way out of the mall within two minutes, avoid bumping into anyone as it slows you down. You’ll then fight one enemy to complete the substory.
#16 – The Miracle Aquarium
Chapter 2 – Located next to the Anaconda Shopping Center
After starting the substory head to the location on Harbor St in the park and speak with the man. After the scene defeat the bear to complete the substory.
#17 – The Miracle Aquarium Gaiden
Chapter 2 – Located in Anaconda Harbor Park
After completing The Miracle Aquarium, speak with Yasuda in the park again. You will need to fight a group of enemies and a tiger to complete the substory.
#18 – Man of Bronze
Chapter 2 – Started at the north side of World Market Village.
After the starting scene, go to the marked spot near Aloha Beachfront taxi dropoff to interact with the living statue. If you give him $100 here, he’ll give you a Toughness ZZ later. Next, go into the bathroom in the building where Aloha Seaside restaurant is located. You can then go back to the same spot as before and interact with him again where you will fight a group of enemies. Then during the day meet him again at the park near East Waikiki Trolley Stop to complete the substory.
#19 – I Want To Be Your Nadeshiko
Chapter 2 – Started on Aloha Beach
Interact with the woman standing by the palm tree surrounded by men. Defeat the group of men with the help of Claire. After she leaves, head to Shinobi Sushi to observe what she is doing in the restaurant. To give the correct answer during the next scene respond “Mt. Fuji”. You can then go into the grassy area on the other side of the buildings from the restaurant to speak with her again. Finally, you can go to Anaconda Harbor Park where you will have one more fight to complete the substory.
#20 – Hironobu Shigeta, 65 Years Old
Chapter 2 after the introduction of Devil Flags story – Located at Onaga Maritime Fare
After the initial scenes, you will fight in a ship battle to complete the substory.
#21 – Coffee & Comedy
Chapter 2 – Started north of Anaconda Shopping Center in Cafe Soramame.
Go inside Cafe Soramame to start the substory, then go to the next point slightly east. Return to the coffee shop two more times to complete the substory.
#22 – The Captain’s Return
Chapter 2 – Started beside Julie’s Gearworks
Walk near Julie’s Gearworks for a scene, then interact with the man after he sits down, then agree to help pick up trash. You’ll need to pick up 5 pieces, which you can spot by the light blue icon on the minimap. You’re blocked into the nearby area during this, so you don’t need to search far. After picking up the 5th piece you will automatically return to the man. You will then fight a couple of enemies to complete the substory.
#23 – Corpirate Compliance
Chapter 2 after the Goromaru is upgraded – Started in front of Black Hibiscus restaurant
After the substory starts go inside the restaurant and speak with the man. You will then be asked to go to the harbor near Dragon Kart where you will complete compliance training. Answer however you want during this section, correct answers will get a better ring as a reward from White, but the reward isn’t unique. After this you will have a fight with two men to complete the substory.
#24 – When You Wish Upon Some Balls
The start of this substory is story-related and occurs automatically at the start of Chapter 3. You are tasked with finding the 7 Gold Balls that are hidden around Hawaii and Madlantis.

#25 – My Dream Minato Girl
This substory is story-related and occurs during chapter 3 as an introduction to the Minato Girls.
#26 – #MyNewFriend
Chapter 3 – Started at Crystal Aloha Resort
Head to the location to meet with the Minato Girl Ena. After the initial scene, head to the new location by Ahi Poke Garden where you will fight a group of men. After speaking with Ena you can then go to the restaurant Polaris where you can speak with the man in front of the door. You’ll then fight another group of men to complete the substory.
#27 – Hello, World!
Chapter 3 – Started at Anaconda Shopping Center
Head to the location to meet with the Minato Girl Misoshi. When you arrive you will immediately get into a fight, after which you need to head to Revolve bar to meet with Mishoshi. During the scenes you can respond how you like, the outcome only affects the nonunique items Mishoshi gives you at the end. After this, you complete the substory.
As soon as the substory starts you will fight one of the people arguing, after talking with Misoshi you will then need to go to Revolve and stream with her the reactions here don’t matter to complete the substory so choose any
#28 – Can You Keep A Secret?
Chapter 3 – Started near Pigeon Family Market
Head to the location to meet with the Minato Girl Kaho. When you arrive you’ll get into a fight with a group of men, then need to head to the newly marked location by Hyper Ecstasy to interact with Kaho again. After a talk you’ll fight another group of rude men, completing the substory.
#29 – Truth
Chapter 3 – Started near Shark Teeth Souvenirs
Head to the location to meet with the Minato Girl Seiko. Note you must have completed substory 7 to unlock Dragon Kart before you can complete this one. You then complete a race with Seiko on the initial Dragon Kart track. Afterward, agree to go for a drink, then defeat the group of men to complete the substory.
#30 – Lovely Traveler
Chapter 3 – Started at Anaconda Shopping Center
Head to the location to meet with the Minato Girl Ai. Agree to pay for the photobook when prompted, multiple times. After spending $360 on photo books, you’ll fight with a group of men. Next, agree to take Ai on the ship and you’ll go to Rich Island where you’ll fight another group of men, completing the substory.
#31 – The One
Chapter 3 after completing substories 26 through 30 – Started at Revolve
After completing the other 5 Minato Girl substories, go back to Revolve and speak with Machiko. Respond how you like to the girls during the scenes, and then after speaking with them all again in the bar, you’ll complete the substory.
