Introduction
Welcome to the Lies of P Trophy Guide! Lies of P draws heavy inspiration from the classic tale of Pinocchio while crafting a darker narrative rooted in the Soulslike genre. As such, you can expect multiple weapons, brutal boss fights, and multiple endings. There are 3 endings total. It is possible to earn all 3 endings in first playthrough with save backups, but this requires playing through the final portion of the game and fighting the two final bosses multiple times. The endings are: Real Boy, Rise of P, Free from the Puppet String. You must find a lot of collectibles, most of which carry over to NG+, with a few being missable. Lastly, you must also complete each side character’s story. As usual with this genre, combat can be quite challenging. There are no ranged classes, and no easy game-breaking builds. You can summon Specters to aid you in boss fights, and give them buffs with a limited item you can obtain about a third of the way into the game. Additionally, all bosses from mid game on have two phases, and deals a ton of damage. You can get away with dodging for some of these, but parrying is the suggested way to handle bosses. This is because Lies of P is based on a high risk, high reward combat playstyle, similar to Sekiro’s. The more deflecting you do, the less your weapon is consumed, the less stamina you spend, the higher the chance for your enemy to go groggy for a Fatal Strike, the more health you get back. For each boss, you need to perfectly learn their move set.
Step 1: Maximum Humanity Playthrough for all Endings, All Character Stories + Exchange Bosses’ Ergos for Special Weapons [30+ hours]
For the first playthrough you are wanting to get the maximum Humanity level, which is what dictates the ability to reach the ‘Rise of P’ ending along with receiving the Golden Lie weapon. Humanity is generally gained from lying during main story dialogues, but is also awarded for finishing the character stories and listening to records. For specifics, refer to Lies of P All Endings Guide to find out which answers you must pick for this playthrough.
Also follow the Lies of P Collectible Guide as you advance through the story. Due to some things being missable, it’s highly recommended to collect everything at the first opportunity.
How to unlock all three Endings in one playthrough:
- After defeating boss “Laxasia The Complete“, do not go forward into Sophia’s room. Make sure that you have completed all possible character stories (Antonia, Euginie, Venigni), as well as listened to all possible records to gain maximum Humanity. You will know you are at the required Humanity level if you’ve received the “Your heart is pounding” prompt when gaining Humanity. If you want to earn all 3 endings in one playthrough, make a backup save now. If you don’t want to do that, skip to step 4.
- Head into Sophia’s room and choose “Let her live”, then continue through to the final boss.
- After defeating boss “Simon Manus Awakened God“, ride the elevator down, choose “Refuse” and fight the Nameless Puppet to unlock The First Puppet. This unlocks the Free From the Puppet String ending because of the choice to let Sophia live.
- Reload your backup save if you made one, then head into Sophia’s room and choose “Give her peace”. If you were at the required Humanity level your hair will turn white after making this choice, which means you can earn the best ending.
- After defeating boss “Simon Manus Awakened God“, ride the elevator down and rest at the Under the Abyss Stargaser instead of walking into the room. Make a new backup save.
- Choose “Give the Heart” when Geppetto asks for it to unlock the ‘Real Boy’ Ending.
- After the end credits, do NOT start NG+. When back at Hotel Krat, head into Geppetto’s Study, pick up the letter from the desk and read it. This will unlock The Story of One Father. Unlock Pianist of Krat as well by interacting with the piano on the ground floor.
- Reload your save, but this time choose “Refuse” and fight the Nameless Puppet to unlock The First Puppet. This will unlock the ‘Rise of P’ Ending because of your high Humanity level and your choice to give Sophia peace.
- After the end credits, do NOT start NG+. Back at Hotel Krat, buy the last Special Weapon from Explorer Hugo that you can exchange with the Nameless Puppet’s Ergo.
- Head into Geppetto’s Study, pick up and read The Blue Butterfly’s Letter. This will unlock The Story of the Blue Butterfly.
- Check the nose on the Portrait in Geppetto’s Study. If you had already listened to all records you can interact with it to obtain the Golden Lie Special Weapon. If you haven’t fully listened to all records and aren’t able to collect it, make sure to listen to all records now. This will unlock Special Weapon Collector.
Lastly, do NOT consume Bosses’ Ergos when you obtain them because you will need them as exchange token for Special Weapons from either Alidoro’s or Explorer Hugo’s shops. As for your build, there are only 4 attributes you need to focus on: Vitality, Vigor, Capacity, and either Motivity or Technique based on what your favorite weapon scales best with. Don’t ignore Capacity as this will determine how much weight you can carry. The higher your weight capacity, the stronger the Weapon, Defense Parts and Amulets you can equip.
Step 2: Playthrough for remaining Records + third ending [20+ hours]
When you’re ready, start NG+ from the Stargazer at Hotel Krat. In NG+, all inventory and upgrades carry over, the only Collectible type you retain is Records (the same ones can be picked up again in NG+ but they aren’t needed). In NG+, the game gets harder, especially from the third main boss onwards. While most enemies drop more Ergo, all hit significantly harder. Some bosses can even kill you in 2 hits and take much longer to go down, even with your best Special Weapon fully maxed out.
During this playthrough you can answer questions however you want, but if you are aiming to do a full playthrough for the third ending you still need to reach a minimum Humanity level to be able to refuse Geppetto, so you can choose to always lie again during story choices. . Buy all remaining Records from some of the Wandering Merchants in the game. For the the Ending, when you reach Sophia’s room choose “Let her live” and then “Refuse” to give Geppetto the heart.

Ben says
Thanks for the guide, though how come the trophies aren’t separated by lines this time? It all kinda runs together making it slightly harder to know where one trophy ends and another begins.
FranciRoosters says
The trophy list isn’t live yet. We’ll have the usual layout once it is.
KUS_SWAT_ says
I just want to point out that I did my first run casually without looking at the guide until the last 2 bosses. For the Decisions I´m pretty sure I have chosen Truth and Lie answers. Despite the answers between Lie and Truth were pretty balanced I was still able to get the “Real boy” and the “Free from the puppet String” ending trophys while following the Guide description. But for some reason the Sophia ending trophy is not working for me. I did every step described in the trophy description but I cant find the Letter in Gephettos office. Do you have any idea whats causing this?
FranciRoosters says
Real boy is always a guaranteed ending because it’s not tied to what answers you’ve given in your playthrough. You’ve also got Free from the Puppet String because you must somehow have given more Truth answers than Lie ones. As for Sophia’s trophy, what exactly did you choose to do with her after Laxasia and what did you tell Simon Manus after defeating him? Also, the letter in Geppetto’s Study can only be found after seeing the Real Boy ending. I’m missing important information to help you further.
Jock_Imargo says
Wow, gonna be a tough one. Didn’t expect an 8.5/10 tbh. But hey, it’s a Korean studio that made it, they love hardcore/grindy stuff, probably even more than the Japanese do.
Anywho, already got my pre-order downloaded and ready for Saturday…let’s go!
FranciRoosters says
Enjoy, it’s an amazing game!
Jock_Imargo says
Thanks PowerPyx once more!
FranciRoosters says
You’re very welcome!
Bob says
Surprised with no save transfer, at least they could have make it like elden ring where no autopops but can carry over the save files with all weapons, accessories and levels obtained, guess I’m not getting double platinum for this
Blackcat999 says
Thanks Powerpyx for this super fast guide. Very disappointed with this platinum, I was expecting 5-6/10 but for an AA game an 8.5/10 seems hard to come by, especially with all the games coming out at the moment.
FranciRoosters says
The game is hard and you really need to master it to finish it. However, it’s one of the best games of the year, by far the best Soulslike. I didn’t expect it to be this hard either, but it’s still one of the best games I’ve ever played and I don’t think difficulty should deter anyone to at least give this gem a try.
zulqarmessi says
Does the game allow us to back up our save files to cloud before every boss fight like we are accustomed to from software games????
FranciRoosters says
You can save anywhere at any point, not just at Stargazers. The game doesn’t really incentivize you to make back-up saves before a boss because the Ergo you drop after dying respawns before the boss arena for a less stressful pick-up. Other than this, I don’t see why you would back-up saves before the boss fights anyway. ?
Romeo says
Could you do the second playtrough in a new game instead of NG+ to make it easier?
FranciRoosters says
You can’t. You need to play the game back to back on the same save file for all Records. If you start a fresh file, it’ll overwrite your original one and you’d still have to do two runs on the same save file anyways for all Records. Hope it makes sense.
Robert Gallups says
Roosters with the boosters!
FranciRoosters says
I definitely activated my boosters to get everything ready for day one ?
Mattoelite1 says
8.5, nice. Surprised theres no cheesy builds, def sounds like Sekiro (even then, we had mortal blade spam). How would you guys rate the game out of 10?
FranciRoosters says
I assume you’re referring to quality. Coming from someone who’s spent more than 100 hours on the game, a solid 9/10 for me. The best Soulslike of the year, bar none.
Gabriele says
Wow, very nice guide. Since the number of minimum playthroughs is going to be 3 for people like me who don’t have PS Plus, what do you suggest? NG Lie, then NG+ Truth (or vice versa) then a third fresh run for Free From the Puppet String? Lots of missable as well, it’s going to be fun.
FranciRoosters says
If you want to unlock more trophies on your first run, I’d suggest going with Lie as your first playthrough, then Truth, then Real Boy. Heads-up: NG+ is very hard, NG++ is unforgiving.
Gabriele says
Thanks, I thought as much regarding NG++ and there’s no way I’m going to try that XD. I guess I’ll follow your recommendation and go for NG Lie, NG+ Truth, then fresh NG Real Boy.
FranciRoosters says
That can be done to slightly lower the difficulty. Just make sure to grab everything in your first NG and NG+, before overwriting your save.
Bunkerbudy says
“You need to play the game back to back on the same save file for all Records.”
So it is possible to get all 3 endings in seperate NG runs if you would want to, it’s just not possible to get all the collectables in seperate runs?
How far into the NG+ do you need to go for all getting all those Records?
Also how hard is a regular NG playtrough? 6/10 ish?
FranciRoosters says
Definitely possible. As for all Records, you need to play 95% of the game. Subject 826, who you meet halfway through Chapter 11, will sell the Fascination golden record at Rosa Isabelle Street Entrance after defeating Laxasia The Complete.
Bunkerbudy says
Ok, so to get all Records you do have to make it all the way to the end of NG+ to get them all. Guess this game will be a bit to hard than for me I thing, I might be able to finish a normal NG, but how I hear it now, I think NG+ wil be to hard to get trough.
FranciRoosters says
Precisely! You must beat at least 11 out of the 12 main story bosses anyway. NG+ is hard, but doable with enough practice and appropriate leveling up.
Joshua says
Great guide as per usual
Will you be doing one for the crew?
joker says
Hey as a person plat all souls game still this plat 8.5? Or less
FranciRoosters says
I think this article has the answers you’re seeking: https://www.powerpyx.com/is-lies-of-p-easier-or-harder-than-demons-souls-dark-souls-bloodborne-sekiro-and-elden-ring/
John says
Any useful farming locations you discovered?
FranciRoosters says
I didn’t do any farming, but there are lots of areas, such as Chapter 9, where it can be done. You can also equip Amulets to increase the amount of Ergo dropped by enemies.
Vincenzo Torizzo says
Great guide! Will there be YouTube videos out for the collectible guides or no?
FranciRoosters says
Because of other equally important guides at the same time as this one, there won’t be collectible videos.
JL says
Always top-notch with the guides Powerpyx team! Really excited to play this game, kinda spooked by the difficulty but bring it on lol. Good game to play till Lords of the Fallen comes out next month. Hope you guys have the chance to cover that game too, although I understand Spiderman 2 will be the main focus next month.
Thanks again for this wonderful guide! 🙂
FranciRoosters says
You can expect both guides on day one.
DS says
Thanks for the guide! Are there any collectibles that are exclusive to the first playthrough? I want my first playthrough to be mostly blind except for trying to get the specified ending and was wondering if i can just save the collectibles guide for NG+?
FranciRoosters says
You can pick up everything in NG+ again.
Willian Marques says
My The Bastards and the Sweepers (Kill a Stalker) trophy buged out. I didn’t get it after killing the Mad Donkey.
FranciRoosters says
Interesting. I’m afraid this is an isolated issue because I haven’t received reports of this bugging out. There are other Stalkers in the game, so maybe it will unlock after.
Vince says
Try to replay the game on a new game and speedrun to the Mad Donkey and kill him without letting the killing blow be a fatal blow or a backstab, the same glitch happened to me and I think it’s because I killed him with a backstab, so Gepetto appeared before the backstab animation could finish, so technically Mad Donkey didn’t “die”, if this same thing happened to you then try to kill him with a normal attack as the last hit and let me know if that pops the trophy.
Eric says
Same happen to me. It never unlocked after killing mad donkey
SerahsArmpit says
Thank you for the guide! Seems like there’s not too much advice other than “git gud” but at least the important steps to platinum are there. I was wondering if the full game is 8.5/10, what would the demo have been? I know I struggled with the Scrapped Watchman for nearly an hour so hoping he’s not like 1/10 🙁
FranciRoosters says
Demo was a 4/10
Vince says
Just curious but what weapon, weapon handle, legion arm, amulets, and defense parts did you use mainly Franci? I’m sure there’s many viable options but if I’m uncreative with making efficient builds I’d love to know yours as a backup. Thanks.
FranciRoosters says
As for Weapons, I didn’t fidget too much with the weapon assembly system. Once I’ve unlocked the Etiquette and Seven-Coil Sword, I pretty much used those for both runs. You’ll soon realize that Special Weapons are just better overall and it’s not really worth it to experiment with weapon assembly.
For Legion Arm, I pretty much always used Flamberge.
For Defense Parts, I always equipped the best ones I had, making sure I would dump some Ergo into Capacity to avoid overencumberance.
For Amulets, Carrier +1 and Leaping +1 were staples, then I would rotate between Recharged, Patience, Hunter, Murderer Puppet (a must for the Black Rabbit Brotherhood in my opinion), Conquering, Arm of God.
Chris says
Is this a hard game to platinum for someone who hasn’t played any of the souls like games?
I really like the style of it and would love to go for a completion. I’m assuming just play enough of it until I’ve mastered the fighting and blocking
FranciRoosters says
Yes, it will be a hard game if you have no experience with Soulslikes, but your assumption is correct.
John says
I stupidly sold the ergos from first 3 bosses. Can I buy the weapons in second playthrough or have I messed up?
FranciRoosters says
You can buy them in NG+, yes.
Vince says
I also got the glitch where killing the Mad Donkey did NOT unlock the Bastard and the Sweeper trophy, I believe it’s because I killed him during a backstab animation, he didn’t “die” in time for the Gepetto cutscene to happen, I hope there’s more later.
FranciRoosters says
There are definitely more Stalkers in the game, but it’s weird that the trophy didn’t unlock for you.
Willian Marques says
I don’t know why but I can’t reply on my post. Thanks for the tip. I’ll kill him without backstabbing in NG+
@FranciRooster, just for your knowledge: killing other stalker’s didn’t grant the trophy either. It has to be Mad Donkey.
FranciRoosters says
That must be a bug, because there’s definitely more Stalkers in the story like The Atoned.
Vince says
Also anyone please let me know if a stalker later in the game unlocks Bastard and the Sweeper trophy if you encountered the same bug
Willian Marques says
Did work for me.
Xlayer says
Are there infinite Ng+?
FranciRoosters says
Yes
Angelo says
I missed the broken butler puppet (recollection) of venigni after the Fuoco boss fight. Is this needed for platinum ?
FranciRoosters says
Yes, see if you can still find him at Center of Venigni Works.
Vince says
Final update on Bastards and the Sweepers trophy: I started a new game on a second slot and ran to him fast, and I killed Mad Donkey normally without the killing blow being a fatal blow or a backstab, I unlocked the trophy, so this trophy IS bugged if you finish him off via a fatal attack front or back.
Nephiliathedon says
About the second run, since the game gets harder and stuffs, wont ìt be easier to just start from scraps instead of forcing into a ng+?
FranciRoosters says
If you want the Platinum, you must start NG+ because you would otherwise lose all Records progress.
GailGabriel says
Hi I made a huge mistake about Sophia on my lie playthrough and I let her live, so do I need to do 3 playthroughs now?
FranciRoosters says
You may. What’s sure though is you won’t be able to unlock her story trophy.
Vince says
Hey Franci, did you alter the Seven Coil Sword and Etiquette to scale with Motility or Technique? Or did you not alter their handles and just leveled both stats at once?
FranciRoosters says
I always maxed out my weapons and handles when possible. Etiquette scales to S with Technique, Seven-Coil Sword scales to A with Motivity.
Justin says
Is my whole lie playthrough screwed up if i make 1 mistake? I had the wedding ring from lying to the one guy and showed it to the butler. Is that considered a truth? And is my whole playthrough void from that one mistake?
FranciRoosters says
It’s a truth, but you should be fine.
Vince says
Hey Franci I’m confused on what to do with Antonia’s Cure as this guide seems to be conflicting on the information. I’m on my first playthrough, the lie playthrough, so I’ve been lying to everyone, the collectible guide says that I should tell Polendina to NOT give her the cure if I am on my lie playthrough, but that will lock me out of the Refined Old Woman trophy and the record with her too until my Truth playthrough, however, the guide here says to finish Antonia’s story in Step 1 which is the lie playthrough, so which one is it? Do I NOT give her the cure or DO give her the cure on the lie playthrough?
FranciRoosters says
There was a slight inaccuracy in the chapter-specific collectible guide that has now been fixed.
David says
I missed 2 lies in my lie playthrough (Stalker’s sign and Alidoro to the Hotel) and I only had to listen to 3 songs fully to get the Golden Lie. This was doing absolutely everything else I could in the run including a few human/lie notifications outside the guide in case they are needed from various things.
If each song counts for 1 lie then you can miss something like 9 lies and still get the Golden Lie assuming you need 1 song no matter what.
FranciRoosters says
You’re correct. You’ve outlined another perfectly viable way to still obtain Golden Lie.
Toalha Nerd says
If that’s true, can’t you get all the trophies in just one play by telling the truth? After getting everything, just listen to the songs to get the lying ending?
AndrewGKim says
When I listen the records, auto-play is fine or do I need to click each one manually?
FranciRoosters says
Auto-play is fine.
Start182 says
There’s no way to transfer the ps4 save into the ps5? It will be added?
FranciRoosters says
Save-transfer it not enabled on any version of Lies of P.
ymnik says
Does even 1 truth at lie playthrough blocks last golden weapon? By accident i said truth one time…
FranciRoosters says
No, you’re fine.
ymnik says
FranciRoosters
So even at lie/truth laythroughs we can get 1-2 opposites?
FranciRoosters says
Yes, you can still mess up 1-2 answers.
Jamie says
Can I finish the “Lie” playthrough first?
FranciRoosters says
Yes
Pana says
Just a heads up, your link to the “How to Respec” page is typoed as “How to Resepc”, as shown in this screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/O9Zrj3g.png
FranciRoosters says
Thanks for reporting this!
Ben says
I think I may have messed up my Lie playthrough, depending on just how listening to records affect your character, I’ve already listened to two of them and have gotten a message after both saying that my Ergo is reacting. Does listening to records have the same effect as telling the truth?
FranciRoosters says
If your Ergo is reacting it means you’ve told a lie, if you’re feeling more warmth it means you’ve told the truth and becoming more human. Listening to records restores humanity, meaning that it brings you closer to being truthful if you’re high on the lying scale so to speak.
Edinho15 says
I don’t understand how some people got the golden lie special weapon and only heard 3 records. I accidentally told the truth once in my run and that was for Belles sidequest. As a result, I didn’t receive a record from her. the nose is very long at the end and after i heard to 7 records i still can’t get the weapon. Do I still have to defeat the first puppet and get the weapon after that? I really don’t feel like making another complet run just for the weapon…
FranciRoosters says
Golden Lie is known to be 100% collectable on a Lie run. I haven’t tested if it can be obtained in a Truth run. Try defeating the Nameless Puppet and see what happens.
ymnik says
Do i need all possible lie/thruth in NG+ or just story related is enough?
FranciRoosters says
I haven’t tested if all Lie/Truth opportunities contribute to their specific ending or only some. The trophy guide contains one possible way to get the Platinum.
Dante86dmc says
I noticed it says to back up a save on the cloud for PlaySation but I chose to play this on Xbox because it’s on Game Pass. Is there a way to get those two endings on one playthrough on Xbox?
PowerPyx says
On Xbox: To force a cloud save where you want it to occur, disconnect yourself from the internet > move around in-game whilst disconnected from internet for a few seconds > reconnect yourself back to the internet > now it will force a cloud save > (double-check that it really uploaded to the cloud) > do one ending WITHOUT EXITING THE GAME (exiting the game may overwrite cloud save!) and stay online because it can’t unlock achievements offline > when done press Home-Button > scroll down to Lies of P > press Options > Manage Game > Saved Data > click Gamertag > Delete Saved Data > Delete from Console > if it still shows the save, delete it again until it’s gone > press Home-Button and restart the game > it will now sync/download your backup save from cloud.
Be warned that if anything goes wrong there is a serious risk that this will mess up your save. It is highly recommended practicing this a few times on an alternate account until you are familiar with the process and get it to work every time. It’s known to be tricky on Xbox so be careful when doing this.
Dante86dmc says
Thanks for the help. I’ll see what I can do following those instructions.
Cala83 says
It’s possibile to backup the save with an usb drive? I’ve copied the whole game with data e saves, i hope this works.
FranciRoosters says
Only on PS4 version
Kevin says
Is NG+ required to get all of the records? Does the game let you play in NG a second time to get the trophies or is NG+ the only option when you complete the game? Thanks in advanced.
FranciRoosters says
Yes, some Records are only specific for NG+. If you start a new character file, you will lose all progress and have to recollect everything.
4ipuxa says
i dont have access to the Internet what is my Roadmap going to look like?
should i do NG and NG+ and another NG for the ending?
FranciRoosters says
It should be slightly easier, but that will mean starting on a fresh character.
Pana says
For the Special Weapon Collector trophy, the guide says to not buy any amulets with any Boss Ergos. Is it fine to get some amulets as long as you get buy the weapon instead in NG+, or is there some other reason that we should ignore all boss amulets during the first playthrough? Thanks for the amazing guide, as always.
FranciRoosters says
Yes, it’s fine. Special Weapons carry over.
Differentiator says
I lied to Venigni and told him I couldn’t hear who caused the puppet frenzy and I still got the trophy once I gave him the toy.
FranciRoosters says
Thanks for reporting this, I’ve changed the guide ever so slightly.
mcapp09 says
For the first Lie playthrough, do you need to back back up saves for multiple trophies near the end?
FranciRoosters says
As explained in the guide, yes.
Alan says
Hello,
Quick question, do I have to do every side quest in a single run? I messed up getting the sad gesture and now I can’t complete the broke dummy mission.
Thanks and congratulations for the guide!
FranciRoosters says
Thank you! No, you don’t have to. Besides, that Side Quest isn’t decisive as it only rewards you with one Quartz.
Kabelwurst says
When every record gives you a free lie, how do you not ruin the NG+ truth run when you have to listen to every record you found the 2nd playthrough?
Doesnt that make it a not only-truth run?
FranciRoosters says
Records don’t give you “free lies”, they just restore Humanity. That means that if you’ve lied a lot, you can play records to re-establish balance on an imagined truth-lie line. Additionally and because of what I’ve just said, listening to records should only take place once you’ve gotten all Endings already, just to be safe.
Ashley Shenton says
Is the first puppet trophy bugged? Just beat it, got rise of the p ending and no trophy
FranciRoosters says
This is the first report I see on it being potentially bugged. I’m afraid it’s an isolated bug.
Snake7 says
Hi, thanks for the guide as always!
One question Im doing my first playthrough following This guide and doing all side quests and collectibles.
In ng+ can i just do the main Quest and Skip all side quests and collectibles??
Thanks
FranciRoosters says
No, you have to redo every single side quest because some of these count towards the ending you want to get. Same for collectibles, you must buy and collect the Records that are NG+ specific if you want the platinum.
Artius says
But there is no need to get collectibles on the ground like books and letters. right?
FranciRoosters says
Some of them are needed to complete side quests and unlock side character-related trophies.
Artius says
Im getting the vessels, quartz and doing side quests only. Already at chapter 6.
mrcus says
maybe a little late but i misatakenly consumed the ergo of the first boss
but do special weapons from boss ergo carry over to ng+
if so can i do the ending with the last boss beeing namless puppet turn in all ergo for weapons and start new game + get the last ergo and weapon to get the trophy.
FranciRoosters says
Yes, they carry over.
filippo cucco says
hi, i’m playing the lies run and wrongly told one truth, have i to restart a new game or ca i go on playing and telling lies and unlock the two finals.
FranciRoosters says
You’ll be fine. You’re allowed to make 1-2 mistakes.
Redbeard23 says
I wanted to ask about throwable items because I read about them being overpowered and tested it out myself and I’ve been able to beat three bosses, including the Eldest Black Rabbit just from using throwable items while the specter distracts them. Ones that inflict fire and shock damage seem especially broken. Like 6 or 7 of them can down a boss. And later on, I think in Chapter 5, there’s a merchant who sells an infinite supply of the best throwable items but he’s missable. I wondered why this was not in this otherwise excellent guide. It’s all over Reddit and there are several YouTube videos showing how throwables let you cheese a lot of the boss fights.
FranciRoosters says
Unless something has changed with recent patches, throwables were never OP for me. Additionally, and this was the Internet found about that Wandering Merchant’s infinte supply, I simply did not rely on them because of three reasons: 1) they’re finite, 2) you cannot carry that many, even with the P-Organ skill unlocked and 3) while masochistic, perfect deflections in this game are way more satisfying than just spamming a button. Of course, as for most Soulslikes, bosses can become a joke if cheese methods are found, but that doesn’t mean that bosses in this game are still very hard if not cheesed.
Arkonite says
Hey Franci,
I’m wondering : On the lie playthrough, do we have to avoid reading records before the end ? Because you mentionned reading records give back humanity like telling the truth. I’m a bit confused. I am at chapter 8, lied at every opportunity but I listened 4 of the records.
Can this block the Golden Lie Special Weapon to appear ?
And so, do we collect the records and only read all of them at the end, when we go back to Gepetto’s Study to get the weapon ?
Thank you 🙂
FranciRoosters says
If possible, avoid listening to Records altogether. Then, do so when and as specified by the guide. It’s not been tested whether it’s fine listening to them prior to the moment explained in the guide. As such, and because you’ve listened to some Records, I cannot say if now you’re closer to the Truth or the Lie in the imaginary Lie/Truth line and if you’ve locked yourself out of Golden Lie.
As for your final question, yes: collect the Records, don’t listen to them until the point I’ve explained in the guide, then pick up Golden Lie from Geppetto’s Study.
Arkonite says
Okay, thank you for your answer 🙂
However, I’d like to take this further: do you think that telling the truth increases P’s humanity? On the face of it, I’d tend to think that, given that puppets can’t lie, it would be the lies that would ultimately increase humanity, don’t you think?
So in the end, listening to records and lying would have the same effect on this imaginary Lie/Truth line, which is itself intimately linked to P’s humanity.
I really like this game and your very good guide adds an extra layer of thought so thanks for that 🙂
FranciRoosters says
There’s still a shroud of mystery regarding what actually contributes to your Humanity’s gauge. Is it lies? Truths? Does Humanity actually play a key role in which Ending you get or is it just tied to obtaining Golden Lie?
redbeard23 says
I appreciate the insight about throwables. They did seem to be OP for me personally, and certainly helped in fights in second phases to drain HP quickly to finish off a boss. But having beaten the Archbishop by using only Perfect Parries, that is definitely more satisfying and naturally how the game should be played. I used Thermites a lot, and they just wrecked a few of the more difficult bosses, especially when there was a fire weakness. And I had 5 and used 4 in battle and then at a Stargazer I swear they replenished. The Thermites scale with Advance so I invested points into it. I simply think given how unfair a few of the bosses are, there is no problem in my mind using a cheese method, especially when there are practically no melee attack openings.
FranciRoosters says
I plan to play the PS4’s version of the game at some point and will definitely test throwables to see what the fuss is about and if there’s actually been noticeable changes to make them worth using.
AJ P says
I lied to eugenie after getting the cryptic from fake alidaro. Am I locked out of the Veteran Explorer trophy? Did I need to tell the truth in that instance?
FranciRoosters says
No, you should be fine. You just need to tell Eugénie the truth if you want her story trophy, but doing so is not related to obtaining Veteran Explorer.
SheaVaz says
This guide is perfect! I find the game forgiving once you level up the appropriate attributes and are able to get the special weapons. Why leave The Story of the Refined Old Lady trophy for the TRUTH play through?? I’m doing the lie right now to get the two endings and I don’t want to screw it up. I’m currently in Chapter 5.
FranciRoosters says
Thanks! Leaving that trophy for the Truth playthrough is just the safer option and what’s confirmed to work. I unlocked in my Truth playthrough after telling Antonia the truth about her appearance.
SheaVaz says
I followed the guide but when asked if the cure should be administered to Antonia, I said no since I’m on my lie play through. I can do this on NG+ correct?
FranciRoosters says
Precisely
Ben says
I’m pretty sure I misunderstood just what listening to records does, I thought it got me closer to getting to the “lie” ending but after reading through the comments here it doesn’t seen like that’s true, all it does is reset things so it’s like I never lied or told the truth, correct? I listened to 5 records already and scared I messed up the lie playthrough, will I still be fine if I just continue with the lying and stop with the listening of records?
FranciRoosters says
So, on an imaginary Lie/Truth line, listening to Records should theoretically put you back closer to the middle of the line. However, we don’t know how much Humanity is restored once you listen to Records, so I can’t say for sure which ending you’re going to get now.
zulqarmessi says
It’s fine don’t worry I also listened to 5 records, but then I stopped, didn’t listen a single one after that.
Just keep following the lie playthrough guide it’s absolutely perfect.
My step in the end was –
1. After defeating Simon, go to hotel get the special weapon using Simon’s Ergo.
2. You can easily get golden lie weapon from painting since you already listen to 5 records just like me.
3. Go to Geppeto refuse to give heart…. kill nameless puppet and get Rise of P ending.
4. Get the final special weapon using nameless puppet ergo.
After this do the other ending.
And then move to NG+
zulqarmessi says
Franci is it safe to kill Arlecchino after getting the toy from him ????
There is an option to kill him, that piece of shit deserve to die ?.
FranciRoosters says
Yes, it’s safe ?
4ipuxa says
Played for 30 hours like wow the game is tough. Forget the platinum finishing the game once is challenging enough task, right now i am like at half the game maybe a little further.
The main reasons i see why the game is really tough:
1) block/parry mechanic – yes you can maybe get used to it and parry, and stagger but some enemies doesnt always give the window for charged heavy attack. The mechanic that block slips some damage through is really unusual and causes butthurt only, yes i am sure there are pro level players that parry any boss after few tries but thats not me.
2) diminishing returns on leveling up. like this is the main hardle for me, i dont mind grinding out levels as much as possible, but it doesnt feels like it does the job. for example 20 levels up in a lot of Souls game is heaven and earth difference here it basically barely feels like it does any difference.
Weapon upgrading is similar but better the increase on level up is sometimes ridiculous.
3) some earlier Skating game input type, you cant spam attack because the game doesnt let you cancel it with dodge.
4) the amount of damage the enemies do itself and the amount of times your alter ego gets knocked down.
So in conclusion 8.5 difficulty is legit. Maybe they patch some things to make the game more welcoming but its unlikely, most realistically they will nerf the throwables.
lonnie33 says
I found some of the Elite enemies, like the Elite Carcass enemy, to be harder to defeat than most of the bosses so far. About throwable items, I will say that the Shot Put is INSANELY OP, as it scales to Motivity, and with 25 Motivity I had one Shot Put take off more than a quarter of the Eldest Black Rabbit’s health bar. He is definitely one boss who can be cheesed. It worked again too on the Mad Clown. Not so much the White Lady because she is fast enough to dodge most of the stuff you throw at her. And I found that the Red Lobster Inn merchant seems to restock his inventory if he runs out. And the stuff he sells is pretty cheap. You can easily farm the Ergo. I found the boss battle strategies on here to be excellent overall, in terms of beating the bosses as they should be beaten, but I think a lot of people are completely unaware of just how helpful throwable items can be, especially if you have a boss down to almost nothing and being too aggressive would likely result in death. Just hang back and toss a couple items at it. Very helpful in second phases.
FranciRoosters says
As I said in another comment, they must have been buffed because they were pretty ineffective when I wrote the guide.
Arkonite says
I can confirm that we can get the Golden Lie Special Weapon without listening each record.
It seems that when enough lies have been told, the message that appears when you lie is no longer “Vous sentez une chaleur”, but “Votre coeur bat la chamade” (I’m not sure of the exact phrases because I’m playing the French version, so I’ve made a translation that probably doesn’t use the exact words from the English version).
I think that records help to increase P’s humanity in the same way that lies do. Which means you don’t always have to answer with a lie to unlock the “Rise of P” trophy.
I hope this helps 🙂
Arkonite says
Translations for “You feel a warmth” and “Your heart is pounding”
FranciRoosters says
Yes, you don’t have to listen to all Records. As many as it’s needed to collect the weapon is fine.
Miles says
Great! I got platinum by following the guide strictly. It needs to be pointed out that on NG+ with the truth run, most side quests are not needed. Personally, I only did the one that asks you to find a wedding ring so I can answer “I have” when Polendina asks whether human and puppet can fall in love. I’m not sure whether this is necessary for processing Antonia’s storyline but anything else is unnecessary for sure.
FranciRoosters says
Yes, they’re not needed, but for completion sake, I decided to add them.
Aaron says
Might need to reevaluate the difficulty after patch 1.2.0.0. Quite a few changes that may alter that rating.
FranciRoosters says
It’s being discussed
zulqarmessi says
Nope not a single change alters the rating at all, the game still is challenging and beats the shit out of us
unless you find killing butterfly quickly gonna change the difficulty rating ?
Cocka says
So what would you rate difficulty, how much manageable the game became?
FranciRoosters says
The difficulty has been dropped to 7.5. The game is still hard, but because some bosses have been balanced, it’s not as hard as it was before the most recent patch.
GaloWar says
It needs confirmation, but I think each type of ending doesn’t depend on the whole playthrough lying or telling the truth.
I think the decisions that really matter are:
1) what you tell to Vegnini about geppeto after listening the message (maybe this isn’t important neither)
2) the fate you choose do Sophia;
3) What you answer to Geppeto after rescuing him in the prison;
4) what you tell to Simon about Sophia;
5) give or not the heart to Geppeto.
FranciRoosters says
Safer to give those other answers as well until we have confirmation that these are the only ones that count.
Sayed Aboalhassan says
I didnt make a manuel save on ps cloud before giving geppeto the heart. I panicked and closed the game when the cutscene started then I rebooted the game the choice was already made and I havent seen the cutscenes and I didnt get any of the endings trophies. Any solutions ?
PlatiniumMaker says
Hi, by “The Story of a Stranger Girl” trophy u can make back up save and make it on 1st playthroug.
FranciRoosters says
Yes, but because it’s tied to mutually exclusive Records, it’s pointless to do so.
Celina says
I am trying to plat the game. Im on my truth playthrough to get Eugenie and the records trophy.
Problem: I cant kill Alidoro. Am I locked out because I wasnt able to talk to Eugenie for the glove? huhuhuhuhu.
I followed the guide and I was just waiting for chapter 10 when I just kill Alidoro for being fake. So I didnt really check up on Eugenie’s dialogue huhhu. PLease tell me I can fix this uhuhuhhuuh
FranciRoosters says
I’m afraid you need another Truth playthrough if you can’t kill Alidoro.
Luckymaniac says
I confim that you can get all endings in a single playthrough and skip the lasts boss during the NG+ run.
Here’s what I did:
1- Start with a Lie run with lying all the time
2- At Chapter 7, I give the cure to Antonia
3- After Laxasia boss fight, make a backup save
Here’s where the choice is important.
4- First, you have to “Spare” Sophia by not killing her
5- At the end with Gepetto, Refuse to give him the heart and you should get the “Free from the Puppet String” ending.
6- Reload your backup save and this time choose to “Kill” Sophia (You should have your hair turn grey/white at this time.
7- Before the end with Gepetto, backup an other save and after that you will be able to get the 2 remaining endings by Refuse and Accept to give him the heart.
Start182 says
Can anyone confirm that it works?
The_Beas_Plats says
Yes this strategy is sound. That is how I went about getting my latest platinum for the game
Cody says
Great guide! There are a ton of comments on this so people might not this message but if anyone does I hope to make this game a little easier for at least one of you. You HAVE to do the TRUTH play through first. It is WAY WAY easier than the lie play through especially at the end of the game. The nameless puppet is a very hard fight and even harder in NG+ it’s a shame the guide is backwards on this. Could’ve been way easier had I known.
FranciRoosters says
How does this make it easier? You still have to fight the Nameless Puppet in NG+ for the other Refuse ending.
Ben says
Just started my ng+ Truth playthrough and have a question. So far the first two vendors (the guy before the first boss and the guy in the abandoned house) sell gold versions of records, one of which it looks like I didn’t have but the other looks to be like a gold version of one I already have, do I need to get the gold version of that record for the trophy?
FranciRoosters says
Yes
4ipuxa says
Did the plat today on ver 1.002. Took me around 85 hours (some of it maybe was idle time in the game so maybe 75 hours total). Luckily at end game you can level as much as you want, looks like the devs missed implementing the progression of upping the cost of level ups at some point. I was around level 200 at the moment i got the platinum, which is a lot of farming/grind.
What can i say like wow, the Adrenaline of completing this game is like off the charts.
Idk the game is unnecessary hard in places, i think the developers should do more balancing. Also as i mentioned before the level of your characted doesnt impact your output that highly as other Soulslike games.
I think i died like a lot of times, if there was a trophy for dying 200 times surely i would have gotten it.
To those that want to do this game for platinums :
1) read the missable trophies, read the missable collectibles etc guides, it will help you.
2) Throwables are your biggest ally in the game until they are nerfed, which is bound to happen.
3) Get the bucket of ice ready to put your ass in, when the butthurt will happen to cool it down.
Good luck.
warhead says
Few trophies are glitched for me – didn’t pop gestures and all weapons 🙁
Does someone have the same problem?
SheaVaz says
The Gesture trophy can only be acquired in your truth playthrough since you will be missing “Greet”. This is an Antonia related gesture that will naturally miss during your lie playthrough.
4ipuxa says
So i did a second Platinum.
My first was PS5 version, second one PS4.
So PS5 version took around 85 hours, but PS4 after i had a lot of knowledge and took only 35 hours, i am sure more skilled players can do it in even less time in under 30 hours. From 85 to 35 hours quite nice. But still there were rage bs moments but this is Souls like game so its normal.
I need to mention one thing its really important as was mentioned above you can get all the trophies except Records in one playthough – look answers you need for missable trophies, look all the lies you need to do then make a backup save after Laxasia the Complete, it looks like the endings depend whether you give peace to Sophia and maybe on your decision whether to tell or lie to Simon Manus about what you did to Sophia.
I hope it helps someone because fighting Nameless Puppet on NG+ is butthurt unless youre good which i am clearly not.
Forgot to mention i did both playthroughs without having learned how to Perfect Parry(guard) i did mostly by dodging.
As for the weapons i had great success with Salamander dagger and Acid handle(from spear), both of these you can find early, you can make S rank Advance scaling for that extra damage. Also the amulet you can buy for Nameless Puppet soul was OP for me, did all NG+ to get the records with it.
In conclusion i think and it is my personal opinion that Sekiro felt like it was harder at the time i platinumed it.
Dix3n says
I just finished the platinum doing 1.9 playthroughs. Did all the endings in NG, so I only had to collect the final records and Eugenies trophy in NG+. You do have to kill Laxasia in NG+ since you can’t get the last record until then. I would say the difficulty was 6/10 when doing it this way.
Manfred says
fyi, getting all normal weapons is missable, but you can buy them at the start of NG+, so no worries
Bartu says
Does anyone know if the trophy “Strongest Normal Weapon” migth be bugged? I upgraded my Puppet Saber to +10 on my first playthrough and didn’t got the trophy. I just arrived to Hotel Krat during my 2nd playthrough, upgraded the Fire Axe to +10 and still nothing.
I did get the Strongest Special Weapon trophy during my first playthrough tho, so I’m not sure what to do.
Im playing on PC with Xbox Game Pass.
Ovidiu says
Hello and thanks for this guide.
I only have a comment regarding this: “To be able to do so, play through all available Records without stopping, then interact with the Portrait to obtain the Golden Lie Special Weapon”. I don’t think this is correct. I always listen to the record when I get it and at the end of the game, when I was in Gepetto’s room, I was able to get the sword without play all available Records without stopping. As long as you played all the record during the game, it should be fine.
Ray says
How do you do a backup save on PS5 before giving the heart to Geppetto? Then how to load that save thanks
Diego says
You can watch a Youtube Tutorial but as i remember, go first to settings, deactivate automatic upload to the cloud for the game. Then you can UPLOAD manually to the cloud before the ending. So you reach Geppetto give him the heart and that’s all, after that ending, go to settings again, but now DOWNLOAD the save data you had on the cloud previously and then go for the Nameless Puppet which is the other ending. But go to YouTube to be sure.
Diego says
Hi, i sold a lot of special weapons in my first playtrhough. Do i need to have them all in my inventory? Or having it in the first time i played does count? For example i bought and then sold the umbrella, if i’m going on my second run, do i need a third run to have weapon and amulet for killing the boss?
The_Beas_Plats says
So a few things that I found out when getting my last plat (which saved me a lot of time)
It is possible to get all 3 endings in NG, but requires backing up your save in 2 different spots
I do not need an all truth run to get the 3rd ending
By the time I started NG+, the only trophy I had left to get was for collecting and playing all records
(all lies run) When you beat the game and return to the hotel after the credits, you can grab the weapon from the painting without needing to play any records. It should be glowing already.
For the initial playthrough I did everything and always lied
I made sure to give the cure to Antonia
For the blacksmith I told her the truth in NG to get the trophy , and then lied in NG+ to get the record (You could probably do it either way)
Right after defeating Laxasia, create a backup save to set up for the multiple endings where you refuse to give the heart
Make sure you are lying enough, otherwise even if you pick to give Sophia peace, you could still end up with the 3rd ending (look for the hair color change. If its grey, you know you will get the Rise of P ending)
Finish the game normally and make sure to play the piano after the credits, and go to Gepetto’s office for whatever letter you need to grab to fulfill the story and pop the respective trophy. I also collected all special weapons at this point so you dont have to worry about it
Reload your backup save to be back outside the room with Sophia and make the opposite choice. You should be set up for the other refusal ending. Continue the game like before
After beating Simon Manus and before talking to Gepetto, set up another backup save as instructed by the PowerPyx guide.
Give the heart and go through the credits. After the credits roll and you are back in the hotel, go to Gepetto’s office and get his letter for the story trophy pop
reload your save again and refuse to give your heart to fight NP again. After the credits roll you should only have 1 trophy left to get which is the records trophy
Begin NG+ and play through the game and you only have to worry about collecting the records from NG+ along with a few others that you need from the blacksmith or from giving the cure to Antonia (Check out PowerPyx records guide).
Once you have the record for giving peace to Sophia after Laxasia and the gold record from the test subject, go to the hotel and get the final records there from the blacksmith story and Antonia story
Final trophy and Plat should pop after playing all records. No need to fight SM or NP, unless you want to
Hope this info helps someone out with maybe getting the plat a little faster
Bloodbeast says
How would you rate getting this plat vs platting Bloodborne?
victor says
you should add that in the first lie playthrough you can get vinigins story trophy because in my first playthrough i just followed the steps and after laxlasia you just give hum the toy from the riddle guy
Michael Doran says
Hey! Amazing guide as always. Just thought it was worth pointing out that you can actually respec at the Golden Fruit Tree itself. Once you have collected the fruit from the tree, interact with it again to be given the option to respec. This is much earlier in the game, so if needs be can respec before getting to the Saintess of Mercy statue.
Winter says
I would adjust the guide a bit to help new players:
in the Minimum Playthroughs section, specify that you need a lie playthrough to be able to get all 3 endings in a single playthrough.
A lie playthrough and the NG+ playthrough for the records.
