Introduction
Welcome to the Layers of Fear (2023 PS5) Trophy Guide! Layers of Fear (2023) is a PS5 Remaster Collection of the original games. You play as the Writer who moves to an eerie lighthouse to finish her two stories, the Painter’s and the Actor’s. Both Stories are revisited versions of the original games, Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2. While the Actor’s Story is a perfect one-on-one copy of Layers of Fear 2, the Painter’s Story has dramatically changed from Layers of Fear. In this revamped version of the Painter’s Story, there are more environments to go through, more doors to open, a new Lantern mechanic used to dispel specific red objects, and collectibles have been moved to different places or spawn in different moments. In addition to the main Stories, you can also experience the Daughter’s Story, a reinterpretation of the Inheritance DLC from Layers of Fear and the original, never-before-seen Musician’s Story.
Step 1: Play through the Writer’s Story – Part 1 (Painter’s Story) [4 Hours]
For Step 1, start a new game. Shortly after the beginning of the game, you will be able to interact with the typewriter in the Writer’s room, which will initiate the Painter’s Story (Layers of Fear 1). To save on time, it is recommended to go for the secret ending in which the Painter leaves the house and doesn’t complete the painting. As soon as Letting Go unlocks, quit out to the main menu and press continue to return to the house and be able to complete the painting for Finished It. Additionally, during this run you must pick specific hallways to go down in order to gather part of the collectibles needed for the trophies. When given the option to choose between a hallway with a red or green drawing, always choose red. This will eventually lead to a Rat Sketch, 12 of which are needed for You might have a problem. The hallways with the green drawing lead to a Family Memento. This means that for certain collectibles you will have to replay certain chapters in continuous order. If you follow Layers of Fear (2023) – Part 1: Painter’s Story – All Collectible Locations, you will have picked up all 12 Rat Sketches and 9 Family Mementos by the end of this run. The collectible guide also includes the locations to the collectibles needed to unlock the secret ending, so you can just keep that open and you’ll get everything that’s missable. When you have finished the entire Writer’s Story, reload Painter’s Story – Chapter 1 – Canvas and choose the green paths when given the option until you have all 12 Family Mementos necessary for Immortalized in my heart. More on this in Step 3. And lastly, interact with every possible white interaction marker to gather up 42 Whisper Items. These are all very easily distinguished thanks to the dark environments in the game.
Step 2: Play through and Complete the Writer’s Story – Part 2 (Actor’s Story) [6 Hours]
Once you’ve finished the Painter’s Story, regardless of which ending you unlocked, you’ll teleport back to the lighthouse and play as the Writer again for a brief intermission. When you’re able to interact with the typewriter again, you’ll start the Actor’s Story (Layers of Fear 2). Unlike the Painter’s Story, you don’t have to play the story in a specific way. When it comes to either obeying or disobeying the director, you can choose either. However, what you need to watch out for during the Actor’s Story are the collectibles as you have to collect almost all of them for most of the trophies tied to this Story. Because the Actor’s Story is basically Layers of Fear 2, you can follow Layers of Fear (2023) – Part 2: Actor’s Story – All Collectible Locations. The only exception is Photo Slide #8. You won’t find it on the piano, instead you need to shine your torch light on the sitting automaton mannequin to reveal it. Once you’ve completed the Actor’s Story, you’ll teleport back to the Writer’s room in the lighthouse, thus completing the Writer’s Story and unlocking True Reflection.
Step 3: Replay the Painter’s Story for Remaining Mementos [1 Hour]
As soon as the Writer’s Story ends, reload Painter’s Story – Chapter 1 – Canvas and go through the Story again making sure you choose the green drawn hallways when given the chance this time round and keep doing so until you have all 12 Family Mementos necessary to unlock Immortalized in my heart. If you’ve followed our collectibles guide, you should be missing 3 Family Mementos only. Check Layers of Fear (2023) – Part 1: Painter’s Story – All Collectible Locations.
Step 4: Play through the Daughter’s Story (True Ending) [1 Hour]
Once the trophy for collecting all 12 Family Mementos unlocks, return to the main menu and from here, choose Chapters > Daughter’s Story > Inheritance to start a playthrough of what originally was the DLC to Layers of Fear. During your first playthrough, focus on meeting the requirements to unlock the True ending as this will get most of the Daughter’s Story’s trophies out of the way. Because achieving this ending requires doing various things, please refer to Layers of Fear (2023) – How to Unlock the True Ending in the Daughter’s Story.
Step 5: Play through the Musician’s Story [2 Hours]
Your final Step is to play through the Musician’s Story, an original look at the events of Layers of Fear, but from the perspective of the wife. The story is very short and linear, and while there are two available endings, it doesn’t matter how your story ends for the Platinum. Regardless of which ending you wind up unlocking, you’ll get the trophies for playing through the Musician’s Story anyway. During the Musician’s Story, you will almost naturally unlock the trophies for finding 11 Items and 32 Notes. All of these are very easily distinguished and in plain view and there’s more than the required amount.

Nick Brown says
Why has there not been any information on the Inheritance DLC achievement “Get your Inheritance”? It seems simple but I have seen all 3 endings now and have not received it. If this website says that it is Coming Soon, what does that mean?
PowerPyx says
The trophy isn’t available yet. It’s currently bugged/unobtainable, nobody has it. Once they patch it we’ll know more.
Eric says
I’m having troubles with the Heavy Burden unlock. Besides the buggy trophies this one is the last for me to collect. I’m on my third playthrough of Act 3. I made it out the garden maze and collected the mysterious item from the tree puzzle, even though I already have the “You Can’t…Truth” trophy, but figured I needed to for the Heavy Burden. Nothing described between writer and actor happened besides the start of Act 4: Breathe. Do I have to replay Act 3 again?
FranciRoosters says
This trophy is known to be an unmissable one, so I’m afraid it may have bugged out on you. Try replaying Act 3 again indeed.
