Kingdom Come Deliverance: The Good Thief Side Quest Walkthrough

February 13, 2018 by PowerPyx 3 Comments

The Good Thief is a Side Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance (KCD).

It unlocks the ability to sell stolen goods to certain NPCs, improves your popularity in the Rattay Mill area, and unlocks tutorials for lockpicking and pickpocketing.

Unlocking the Quest

Go talk to Miller Peshek at Rattay Mill. He’s the guy who took you in after the Homecoming quest. Theresa is also there. Agree to help him. Do not pay him off.

Get a Spade

First you must find a spade. The game doesn’t place a quest marker for the spade location. Check the screenshot below for where to find the spade location in A Good Thief quest:

Get the Dead Man’s Ring for Miller Peshek / Dig Up the Grave

Go to the quest marker on the Gallow Hill. To the left of the wooden executioner platform is a grave you can dig up using the spade. Side Note: if you’re carrying too much (inventory weight in red) you won’t be able to jump back out of the hole! Make sure you inventory weight is not over the limit. You can still drop things from your inventory after digging up the hole. You can press :square: (PS4) / :x1: (XB1) to climb out.

Get back to Peshek

There’s no ring in the grave. So return to Peshek. He will tell you the executioner must have taken it and wants you to go steal it from him. This also unlocks the Lockpick tutorial which you can play by talking to Peshek. He will give you some Lockpicks for your task. Better save here (sleep in your bed for autosave) so in case the lockpicks break you can retry the next bit.

Find the Ring hidden in the executioner’s house and steal it

The game will mark the executioner’s house for you on the map. It’s where you dug up the grave on the Gallows Hill.

There are two crates located in the executioner house that you can lockpick. The one in the left room (where the beds are) had the ring for me. If it’s not there check the crate in the middle room (storage).

While lockpicking you must avoid being seen by the executioner. There are a few options:

  • Sneak past him when he’s outside or sitting in the room on the right. When lockpicking the box in the left room close the door behind you so he won’t see/hear you.
  • Make some noise outside or intentionally be seen trespassing to lure him out. You can also whistle for your horse if you’ve already unlocked it. When he sees and follows you outside, run one turn around the house and come back from the other side so he will miss you.
  • Simply talk to him. If you have high speech attribute you can pick the speech special dialogue to tell him he owes half a sack of corn to the miller. He will leave at once to pay his debt and you can enter the house.

Go back to Peshek

Head to the Rattay mill and talk to Peshek about what you found. You now unlock the ability to sell stolen goods to him (he acts as a fence) and he will now teach you how to pickpocket when you talk to him! At the same time, this clears your debt with Peshek so you don’t have to repay him any money.

Take the Ring to the Miller in Kohelnitz

Peshek wants you to bring the ring to a friend of his in a nearby town, just north-east of Rattay. It’s not far. Go there and deliver to the ring to the other miller. It’s revealed that all was just a test and the ring was worthless. It was just to see if you’re willing to get your hands dirty. Now he and Peshek will offer you new side quests and you can sell stolen goods to them!

This concludes “The Good Thief” Side Quest.
