Via Argentum is the 17th main quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Via Argentum main story quest.
Go to Ruthard Palace
Ruthard Palace is in the south of Kuttenberg city. Before going there put on your best armor and make a manual save. A fight will follow. When ready, enter the courtyard to trigger a cutscene and a fight breaks out.
Help the Ruthards
Defeat the enemies wearing yellow outfits. Your allies will make quick work of the enemies and come to your aid. As long as you defend and stay alive they’ll take care of all the enemies.
Then talk to the Ruthards, he will send you to gain evidence on Vavak’s counterfeiting activities, and in exchange will help you free Capon. To gain reputation you can say this: “Apology accepted” > “We’re on the same side!” > “Nobody will know” > “What should I do with him?” > “But you need evidence?”.
Talk to Christian Pisek
Christian Pisek is found in the town Grund, northwest of Kuttenberg. If you’ve been to Grund before you can fast travel there. If not, you can shorten the path by traveling to Devil’s Den and go from there. He’s in the mining camp in the south of Grund.
To gain reputation say: “I’ll help with your investigation” > “My real father oversaw mines“.
Talk to Christian in private
Follow Christian behind the house where you’re in private, talk again. What you say doesn’t really matter, you can go with this: “Wouldn’t they suspect something?” > “I’ll be an inquisitive scholar”.
You can choose to act as a scholar, nobleman, or Christian’s nephew – this only affects some dialogue how you introduce yourself to the miners, but you can get info from them either way. Feel free to exhaust all remaining questions if you want to learn more about the mining process.
He wants you to check with 3 miners how much they mined, then compare against the entry in the mine book to figure out how much silver gets stolen.
Find out the amount mined by Samko’s sonnies
Samko will be marked by the “H” objective, he’s usually outside the mine. If you win the skill checks he will answer your questions immediately. The intimidation (helmet icon) is easy to win. If it fails, then you can play a round of dice with him or bribe him for 200 Groschen.
His shift mined 34 corves.
Find out the amount mined by Paul’s sonnies
Paul is marked by the “G” objective, he’s usually inside the mine. The mine entrance is opposite the gate to the courtyard:
It’s a long tunnel system, check the compass and head in the direction of the “G” marker. At the end of the mine you find Pavel (not Paul). Paul died in a mine accident.
Talk to Pavel, the following gains you reputation: “There’s no pain in heaven” > “I’ll pray with you“. After you finish saying the prayer, talk to Pavel again. Exhaust all questions.
His shift mined 30 corves.
Find out the amount mined by Frank’s sonnies
Frank is marked by the “F” objective, he’s walking around the area. He can be either inside the mine or outside.
Exhaust the questions, you can get the info by winning the skill check. The intimidation (helmet icon) is easy to win. If it fails, you can ask “What do you want in return?”. He’ll ask for ale, a new map marker will appear outside on an easy chest with 10 beer in it, bring these back to him.
His shift mined 36 corves.
Tell Christian what you learned from the miners
Return to Christian. These choices gain reputation: “Less” > “What are we going to do?”.
Because the entry in the mine book shows fewer corves than were actually mined, it’s confirmed someone has been stealing the silver. We must get Fett and Herrmann to cooperate to find out who’s behind it.
Get Herrmann to co-operate
Talk to Ore merchant Herrmann, he’ll be somewhere outside the mine depending on time of day. He’ll be marked.
Say: “We need to talk (Confront)” > “You’re reporting false numbers” > “Don’t be afraid to tell the truth” (all skill checks are pretty much guaranteed to succeed but this one gains reputation). He then admits his involvement. Exhaust the remaining questions in any order.
Get Fett to co-operate
Talk to Foreman Fett, he too will be somewhere outside the mine depending on time of day. He’ll be marked.
Say: “A word (confront)” > “But you count the corves” > “You won’t be punished” (all skill checks are pretty much guaranteed to succeed but this one gains reputation). He then admits his involvement. Exhaust the remaining questions in any order.
Tell Christian what you found in the mines
Return to Christian, say: “I talked to Fett and Herrmann”, then exhaust all questions.
Talk to Buresh (Optional)
Talk to Buresh of Krakovitz, his location varies by time of day so check the map marker. He’ll be somewhere in Grund. You need to pose as a nobleman, this requires wearing fine clothes that give high charisma. You must unequip your weapon and must be clean (not bloody or dirty). You can wash yourself if any equipped item has become bloody/dirty, or unequip that item. If you don’t have charismatic clothes you can buy/steal them at the Kuttenberg tailor. If you still have the wedding outfit that should suffice.
Say “I’m interested in buying anyway” (gives reputation) > exhaust all questions. He gives the letter of safe conduct.
Look around the smelter
The smelter is the building with black smoke coming out the chimney, in the middle of Grund. Go there and talk to the smelters in the yard, exhaust all dialogues:
Then examine the pile of raw ore in the corner of the yard:
Talk to Smelter Shima. His location varies by time of day so check the map marker. At day he’s usually shoveling coal in the yard.
Say “Are you the one they call Shima?” > “Henry. Buresh sent me.” > “I’m interested in the operations of the smelter” > exhaust all questions.
If you’re in the smelter yard he’ll say it’s not safe to talk and wants you to follow him to a safe location. Then walk after him and talk again when outside the smelter area.
You must ask “Does any silver go missing from here?” > win the skill check. If you did the optional objective to talk to Buresh, you can put on the same high charisma outfit to win the skill check “I have been tasked by the nobility” (gives reputation).
He recommends talking to Volkmar to gather more info.
Find Volkmar
Smelter Volkmar is found at the horse trader in the northeast of town. Go there at day, at night the area is restricted and he’ll shush you away. Put on your best armor/weapon before talking to him and make a manual save. A fight will follow.
Upon talking to him, 3 of his men will come to attack you. You have a skill check opportunity here, your best hope is “I demand a fair duel“. If you win this, you only need to fight one of them and the other two run off. The other skill checks are hard to win. If they fail or you say nothing, then you must fight all 3 at the same time. After the fight you can loot the corpse(s) for Groschen.
Talk to Volkmar
Exhaust all dialogues with Volkmar in any order and say “Give me the map”. You can then decide to let him go or kill him. The best option is “Pay up and you’ll be free“. He gives you 100 Groschen and reputation.
Volkmar reveals that Buresh is behind the silver theft and gives you a map that leads to the secret counterfeit mint.
Find the secret mint
The secret mint is east of Grund. The entrance is at the southern edge of the search area. There you find a hole in the ground with a ladder going down:
When going near the hole it updates the objective.
Get evidence against Vavak
Climb down the ladders into the secret mint. At the end of the tunnel you meet Buresh and his 3 soldiers. You can either accept his bribe (up to 475 Groschen) to avoid a fight, or attack / say you can’t be bought to fight his soldiers. You’d then need to fight all 3 simultaneously which is quite difficult.
The easy recommended path to avoid the fight is: “I need evidence on Vavak” > “How much will you pay me?” > Large Bribe (you get 475 Groschen) > We’re clear.
Afterward, in the same room pick up Secret preghaus key from the table.
Then go straight to the end of the tunnel, use the key to open the door. There you find two imprisoned minters, talk to them. They reveal the evidence you need is in the locked chest in the same room.
Optionally, you can exhaust all questions and ask “You don’t want to get in trouble with Vavak?” > win either of the skills checks to get the optional objective “Free the imprisoned coiners“. This requires defeating the guards if you haven’t already. It’s optional, you only really need the book from the locked chest to finish the quest. Doing it will grant some bonus reputation.
In the same room, lockpick the medium difficulty chest and loot Secret mint ledgers. There are also around 200 Groschen in the chest. Lockpicks can be found in the open chests next to it.
This completes the objective. Then all that’s left is to return to Christian, or optionally you can save the minters (see below). While you’re here, loot all the chests throughout the tunnels, they are open and contain Groschen.
Optional: Free the imprisoned coiners
If you talked the minters into breaking out, you must kill all guards in the tunnel, then talk to them again and they’ll flee. Wait till the guards are asleep, then you can do a stealth kill if you have a dagger equipped. It will likely wake up the other guard but at least you have one less to deal with. There are only 2 guards left in the front room, with 1 stealth-killed you have only 1 left to fight. Another guard will be walking in the side tunnel, he must be defeated too.
After defeating all 3 guards, return to the minters and say “I’m back” > “The guards are dead”. You gain reputation now, and again when reporting this to Christian.
Conclude your investigation with Christian
Exit the tunnels and fast travel back to Grund. Talk to Christian at the mine to report your findings.
The best choices to gain maximum reputation + 625 Groschen reward are: “I got the evidence against Vavak” > “In the secret mint” > “I killed the guards” (if you did optional objective) > “There were some coiners being held prisoner” > “They gave me the coin die” > “I’m listening” > (Agree) > 625 Groschen earned.
Christian then keeps the counterfeiting operation going under his management. If you don’t share all your findings, or refuse to keep the conterfeiting going, you will miss out on the Groschen.
You can blackmail Vavak either way. In total this quests nets you over 1500 Groschen with all the bribes and loot from chests and defeated enemies.
This finishes Via Argentum main quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
Note: After completing Via Argentum you can get the missable side-quest related trophy “Remember, Remember…” from doing Side Quest: The Spark. You should do this now before the next main quest. As a prerequisite to get that side quest you must also have done Feast for the Poor and The Thieves’ Code.
Next Quest: Taking French Leave
For all other Quests refer to Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Walkthrough.
Skilleto says
The Minting Die is worth 4200
BigDaawg says
Yeah but you can’t sell it for that much since there are no NPCs that carry that much money. Most you’ll get is around 800-900 groschen.
