Starting Location: Lackey
Note that this quest can be started from multiple locations, whether you go to Zlata at the house or go to where Vostatek is already located for the objective Get rid of the wolves and save the huntsman.
Find the huntsman Vostatek
Speak with Zlata, who will give you some information about her missing husband. You will have a very large objective area marked on your map, so you should first speak with Vitek to get further information.
Learn from Vitek where the huntsman headed
Ask Vitek about his father, then respond in the speech check whichever way you like for him to give you more information. You can ask him more questions after, but he won’t come with you regardless of what you say. You can then head north to the much smaller marked area, specifically to the road intersection between the two ponds.
Get rid of the wolves and save the huntsman
Just north of the intersection is a tree, where you can find three wolves and Vostatek up the tree. You need to take out these three wolves to get Vostatek down. If you are going for the Lent trophy/achievement you MUST NOT attack the wolves with weapons. Even blunt weapons count as killing the wolves, so you need to deal with them using only your fists. This does not count as killing the wolves if you do it with your fists, so does not void that requirement.
Wolves are relatively simple to fight hand to hand as normally only one attacks you at a time, but they move around quickly so you can’t chase them and hit them. Focus on one wolf and stay close to it, then back away to bait it into attacking you, which allows for a guaranteed counter-hit. If you are quick you can get a second hit in before the wolf stands up and runs away from you. You don’t do a lot of damage this way so the fight will take a bit, but you won’t take much or any damage as long as you always bait and counter the wolf.
Once all three wolves are dealt with Vostatek will jump out of the tree.
NOTE: Lackey quest can fail if you go near Vostatek and walk away without rescuing him from the wolves. Then the wolves kill him after some time, which voids his follow-up task Bird of Prey.
Speak to Vostatek
Vostatek injured his foot jumping out of the tree and wants you to carry him. You should accept as declining only lowers your reputation with him, but you cannot finish the quest and Vostatek stays on the ground.
Carry Vostatek to his hideout
Pick him up off the ground and start walking north in the direction he eventually gives. He will start giving conflicting information, but you can just keep following the river north. The point where you will end up is at the bend in the road, which will be marked as a Hunter’s Camp if you have been down that road already.
You do have the option to carry Vostatek directly home, but this is the worst outcome of the quest, and he only awards you 25 Groschen and lowers your reputation, though this doesn’t prevent you asking him about Mutt after.
Put Vostatek down in his hideout
Once you reach the correct location, drop him on the ground.
Speak to Vostatek
Speak with him after he stands up.
Bring Vostatek some water from the barrel
He will hand you a waterskin so interact with the nearby water barrel to fill it, then interact with him again.
He wants you to look for his horse Pepik. You can turn him down again, but this also just results in a loss of reputation and you can’t continue the quest, so agree to look for his horse. He’ll insist on staying at the hideout regardless of what else you say, and all the speech check options will just result in a loss of reputation so just agree to help out.
Track down Vostatek’s horse Pepik
Vostatek suggests looking along the path to the north, which you will need to follow. There are several items you can check on the ground that move the objective farther, but you are just going straight southeast along the path until you reach a cliff, where the poacher’s camp will be marked.
Dispose of the poachers
There are a total of 5 poachers in the camp for you to deal with. You can avoid killing them and complete the quest, but you will get a lesser reward at the end of the quest and miss out on the items around the camp, so it is recommended that you kill all 5 before bringing the horse back. This is possible either by fighting them directly or stealthily taking them out.
If you do want to directly fight them, it would be highly recommended to not just run in and alert them all at once. Two of the enemies have bows, so if they are all attacking the archers will hang back and try to shoot you, making dealing with the rest at the same time very difficult. You can draw them away one at a time, allowing you to fight them one-on-one.
If you do decide to be entirely stealthy, it is recommended to wait until nighttime. There will then always be two enemies sleeping in the beds around the fire which makes dealing with everyone individually much easier. You can take out the enemy that stands at the main entrance to the camp, watching for the one that walks back and forth through the middle. Generally, once all 4 others are dead the final one will walk out from the door near the back of the camp where there is a room with a bunch of supplies.
Bring Pepik back to Vostatek
Pepik should be standing in the middle of the camp unless it gets scared by nearby combat then will normally move toward the edge of the camp. If you’ve killed all the poachers make sure to go around and loot the area, especially the back cave where you can find the crossbow Vostatek mentioned.
When you’re ready to leave, mount Pepik and ride back to the hideout where Vostatek is still waiting.
Speak to Vostatek
After parking the horse within the camp area you can speak to Vostatek again. Henry will tell him about what you did with the poachers, then you will have the option to either return to Vostatek’s house with him immediately or go back on your own.
Back at Vostatek’s house, you will start a conversation with Zlata and Vitek. There is a speech check where you can respond about what happened with the wolves, with the top option being the best as you gain rep with everyone, and the other’s losing you rep with Vitek. After the conversation is over you will receive a reward based on the outcome, completing the quest.
- 80 Groschen if you killed all poachers and brought back Pipek
- 45 Groschen if either the horse dies or you don’t kill all poachers before bring back the horse
- 25 Groschen if you immediately brought Vostatek back to the house from the tree
This finishes Lackey side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Afterward you can accept the next task from Vostatek, called Bird of Prey.
