Kao the Kangaroo All Collectible Locations (Runes, KAO Letters, Heart Fragments, Eternal Wells)

Kao the Kangaroo has 115 Collectible Locations needed for trophies. The Collectibles needed for trophies are Runes, KAO Letters, Heart Fragments, and Eternal Wells. No Collectible is missable because all levels including boss fights can be replayed as many times as you like. When replaying, you can leave a level once you’ve found what you need, no need to finish it. With that said, following this text guide as you play through the game will net you the Platinum trophy in one single playthrough without any backtracking required. While Runes, KAO Letters and Eternal Wells (quick platforming or enemy-killing challenges) can only be found scattered across the worlds, Heart Fragments must also be bought from the worlds’ vendors. This means that for some of these you need to have enough Ducats to buy the remaining ones to get to 10 full hearts. Just finding the Heart Fragments in the levels is not enough to unlock Healthy. You need to buy the rest.

Walt’s Dojo

1. K: after jumping across the first bridge, you’ll be at a fork. Take the path on the right and you’ll find the letter K at the end of it.
2. A: next to where you’ve picked up the life, there’s a waterfall. Behind the waterfall is the letter A.
3. O: a while after meeting Walt, you’ll be in an area with some hamlets above a beach. After hitting the switch that opens the door to the next area, use the pillars in the middle of the water to reach them. The red one has a door that can be destroyed. Inside it is the letter O.

Hopalloo Island

1. Rune #1: in front of Walt’s Dojo, by the stairs.
2. Rune #2: from the Dojo, cross the right bridge and go up the stairs to find this Rune next to a house.
3. Rune #3: from Rune #2, drop down to the beach and you’ll find this Rune on a wooden pier.
4. Rune #4: from the Dojo, cross the left bridge to find this before a crystal gate.
5. Rune #5: available only after completing The Dark Forest. This will spawn after returning to Hopalloo Island for the first time.
6. Rune #6: available only after completing Terror’s Lair. This will spawn after talking to Gadget and can be found sitting on the beach on the opposite end of the village from where Gadget is, behind a hut by the water.
7. Rune #7: available only after completing the Lava Caves and obtaining the fire power for your gloves. There’s a water pond to the left of the Dojo. Drop down here to find a fire charge. Use it on the nearby spider web to reveal this Rune.

The Dark Forest

1. Heart Fragment #1: inside a hut, near a bonfire. To reach this area, veer left after the second water section.
2. K: on a ledge after you have been introduced to the Frogster enemy.
3. Rune #8: after activating the Eternal World a second time, this sits right in front of you.
4. A: in the same area where you’ve fought the Range Frogsters and Frgosters enemies, on a ledge. This can be reached by making use of the trampolines in the area.
5. Eternal Well #1: in the same area where you’ve fought the Range Frogsters and Frgosters enemies, take the side path. At its end is this Eternal Well.
6. Eternal Well #2: in the same area with the Fire Spitter enemies, there’s a hole in the wall you can roll through next to the hut. It’s hidden by some destructible barrels.
7. Heart Fragment #2: after the section with the Fire Spitter enemies, you will activate a gate. Enter this new area and you should find a cave you can enter on your right.
8. O: shortly after Heart Fragment #2, you will find yourself in an area with two switches to activate. Activate the one closest to the wooden door on the floor and then quickly make your way past the traps to activate the second one. This will reveal an opening in the ground with the letter O.
9. Heart Fragment #3: in the dining area where you fight a bunch of Frogsters, to the right.
10. Rune #9: after clearing the area of the Frogsters, talk to Walt and he will reveal you this Rune.

The Lava Caves

1. Rune #10: unmissable, on the main path after dropping a crate loose with a boomerang.
2. Heart Fragment #3: after the previous Rune, climb up the rock and look to your right. You’ll find this fragment sitting on another rock in the distance.
3. Eternal Well #3: make your way back where you came from, but this time drop down where you can see some spider webs. Use a fire punch to remove them and find this Eternal Well.
4. K: after obtaining infinite charges, jump your way across the lava using the moving platforms and you’ll find the letter K on your right on a rock.
5. Rune #11: unmissable, on the main path after boomeranging the furnace and lowering the bridge.
6. Heart Fragment #4: after picking up a life, you’ll reach a room with some lasers. Drop down to where the lasers are and you’ll find this below the rock that gave you access to this room.
7. Rune #12: unmissable, on the main path after clearing some spider webs in the room with the lasers.
8. Heart Fragment #5: after dropping down the trap, you’ll be in a room with a lot of wooden crates. Stack atop some are three destructible ones which are hiding a hole in the wall you can roll through. One the other side is this Heart Fragment.
9. A: climb up the wall to reach a room with some Frogster enemies. While you’re supposed to punch the fire barrier to continue on, make a slight detour past the destructible crates to reveal a rock with the letter A on top.
10. O: in the room where you have to reactivate the lasers, on one of the ledges.
11. Rune #13: unmissable, after retrieving Gadget’s wrench.

The Hungry Jungle

1. Rune #14: in the area behind the big tree, near where the yellow fan is, by the monkey training ground.
2. Rune #15: only available after clearing Monkey Park. This will spawn above the entrance to the River Track level. 
3. Rune #16: only available after clearing Monkey Park. It will spawn right on top of the broken bridge once you get back to the hub.

The Durian Valley

1. K: After meeting the Durian Bearer enemy for the first time, jump on the nearby platforms to continue on, but make a slight detour past the spider web. At the very end of this fairly linear area is the letter K.
2. Rune #17: unmissable, on the main path, by a checkpoint.
3. Eternal Well #4: after picking up the previous Rune, don’t use the trampoline to jump onwards. Instead, use the Eternal World platforms to make it to a spider web behind which is this Eternal Well.
4. Heart Fragment #6: after making it past some rolling spikes, you’ll have to slide down some vines to continue on. After you land, look to your right to find some Eternal World platforms that you can activate. These will lead you to this Heart Fragment.
5. A: you will soon reach a broken bridge. At the end of the bridge, drop down, then turn around 180° to find an alcove inside the trunk with the letter A inside. 
6. Eternal Well #5: you’ll soon reach a fork, with the path leading up on the left and the entrance to a big tree on your right. Go right and enter the tree to find this Eternal Well.
7. Rune #18: now take the path leading up and after avoiding some falling barrels and climbing up some ledges, you’ll find this Rune right before you.
8. Rune #19: unmissable, after the sliding section.
9. Heart Fragment #7: in the area where you need to activate all steam globes, you will have to jump on a platform that gives you access to some vines you can grab. Below this platform is a hidden alcove with this Heart Fragment.
10. O: behind the waterfall.
11. Rune #20: after defeating Buba, talk to him and when you’re done, this Rune will spawn right next to him.

Monkey Park

1. K: Immediately after reaching the first checkpoint, look to your right to find a spider web you can set ablaze. The charge is found a patch of land in the water right before the checkpoint. The letter K is found behind this spider web
2. Rune #21: soon after, you’ll have to interact with two switches to continue on. When activating the second switch, a platform will rise up leading you straight to this Rune.
3. Eternal Well #6: after activating the first furnace, retrace your steps past the traps and you’ll soon reach a fork with a broken bridge to your right. Cross this bridge to reach the area with this Eternal Well.
4. Rune #22: unmissable, found after opening the monkey door.
5. Heart Fragment #8: after the vine sliding section, continue on until you can see a patch of land with a Durian Bearer enemy on it on your right. Past it is this Heart Fragment. 
6. Rune #23: unmissable, found after an ear-grappling section.
7. A: facing the location of the previous Rune, check your right to see some spiderwebs. Behind them is letter A.
8. Eternal Well #7: after an ear-grappling section, you’ll be able to see a vine you can slide down on. This will lead you to this Eternal Well.
9. Heart Fragment #9: after clearing the Eternal Well, use the trampolines to get back and they will lead you straight to this Heart Fragment.
10. O: after the previous Heart Fragment, you will have to use a trampoline to return to the main tree platform of this area. Go where the three monkeys are and grab some fire charges from the infinite supplier. Now return to the main tree platform and activate the platform with a charge. Continue up the linear path until you reach a wider platform with some enemies. Defeat them and then use the hooks to reach a bridge which will lead you straight to letter O.
11. Rune #24: after talking to Tuba the monkey, this will spawn right on top of the table.

River Track

1. Eternal Well #8: after the initial chasing section, you’ll reach an area with some enemies. Defeat them all and then climb up the ledges to reach a grapple point. After landing, continue on up some ledges to grab a fire charge. Now drop down and retrace your steps to the platform you landed on to find a small destructible wall. Roll through the hole to find a switch that will activate the door to this Eternal Well on the other side of the area.
2. Heart Fragment #10: to grab this Heart Fragment, you need to continue up the intended path. Once you reach a switch, go right past it to find a grapple point. On the other side of the grapple point is a fire charge that you need to use on the spider web found above the location of the previous Eternal Well, next to the Eternal World switch.
3. Rune #25: found at the top of the first climbing section.
4. K: at the very end of the second chasing sequence is the letter K.
5. A: after the second chasing sequences, you’ll have to make your way up a stack of crates using grapple points. When you’ve climbed up the stack of crates, turn 180° to find another grapple point hidden by a blue banner. To use it, jump towards the banner and as you land, push :square to grapple onto it. Using it will lead you straight to the other side where the letter A is.
6. Heart Fragment #11: shortly after letter A, you’ll find two Muscle Brothers. Defeat them and then enter the house on the right through the window to find this Heart Fragment.
7. Rune #26: open the door using a fire charge, defeat the enemies and this Rune will spawn atop the table in the middle of the room.
8. O: after the final chasing sequence, you’ll land in what looks like an office with a hole on the ground on the rightmost corner from where you came in. Dropping down this hole will lead you straight to the letter O.
9. Rune #27: this will spawn after releasing the crab from the cage.

The Frozen Mountains

1. Rune #28: from where you’ve spawned, walk down the bridge and you’ll see this on your right on one of the balloon platforms leading down.
2. Rune #29: obtainable only after opening The Icy Slopes area (requires 30 runes). Found on the frozen lake.
3. Rune #30: obtainable only after defeating The Oldest One. This is found in the frozen lake near the vendor of this area (right of the starting point of this area).

The Frosty Canyon

1. Rune #31: at the end of the first ear-grappling section.
2. Rune #32: unmissable, on the main path, after opening a door.
3. Heart Fragment #12: immediately after the previous rune, you’ll reach a fork. To your left you should see an Eternal World switch. Activate it to reveal some platforms leading you inside a cave. Keep activating the subsequent switches until you get to this Heart Fragment.
4. K: almost halfway through the level you will have to open a gate from which flying sheep will come through. Instead of ear-grappling across the cold water, look to your right to find the letter K.
5. Rune #33: immediately after the ear-grappling section.
6. Rune #34: after defeating a bunch of Fringer enemies.
7. Heart Fragment #13: in the area after the arena where you’ve fought off the Fringer enemies, look to your right to find this on a patch of ice. For reference, there are also some crates and a blue crab on here.
8. Eternal Well #9: opposite the location of the previous Heart Fragment.
9. A: after the Eternal Well, go back onto the main path, slide down and you’ll have to freeze up some water to be able to climb further. Afterward, you’ll be at a fork, with the story path requiring you ro freeze up some more water. Go right and use the balloon platforms to reach the letter A.
10. Eternal Well #10: after some more climbing, you’ll open a door. As you walk through it you should see a Life in front of you. While facing the Life, look to your right to find some climbing ledges leading you straight to this Eternal Well.
11. O: continue up the main path until you come across a fire charge. Use it on the ice wall to reveal the letter O.
12. Rune #35: this spawns right after rescuing the Balloon Goat at the end of the level.

The Hot Springs

1. Rune #36: after meeting the flying sheep throwing piranhas at you, freeze the water and climb up the wall to find this Rune.
2. Heart Fragment #14: facing the Rune’s location, look to your left to see a dispenser of fire charges. Next to it is an ear-grappling net that will lead you to this Heart Fragment.
3. K: now go back up where the Rune was and this time go right and walk across the room using the bridge to reach an ice wall you can melt with your fist and reveal the letter K.
4. Rune #37: at the very end of the sliding section.
5. A: a bit after, you’ll have to use a crystal to reveal some see-through platforms. During one of these sections, you’ll have to drop down to continue on. When you do, move your camera around to spot an above in the wall with the letter A inside. 
6. Eternal Well #11: After freezing up the lake, go opposite the switch that you hit to freeze it to find a fire charge. Now return where the switch was and use the fire charge to melt down the ice wall and reveal a secret area. Follow the path to the end for this Eternal Well.
7. Rune #38: after a sliding section.
8. Heart Fragment #15: facing the location of the Rune, look to your left to find an opening leading outside. Use the ledges to climb higher and reach this Heart Fragment.
9. O: in the upstairs section of the room where you ended up in after sliding there’s an ice wall you can met through with your fists. You will get to this section as you make your way to the previous Heart Fragment.
10. Rune #39: this will spawn right net to the Pogo Bouncer enemy after talking to him.

The Icy Slopes

1. Rune #40: at the end of the initial sliding sequence.
2. K: during the first rail grinding sequence, jump on the rail that is going around a big rock to grab the letter K.
3. Heart Fragment #16: at the end of the first rail grinding sequence.
4. Rune #41: at the end of the second sliding sequence.
5. A: destroy the ice wall next to the Rune above to reveal the letter A.
6. O: during the second rail grinding sequence, you will have to activate a mid-air Eternal World switch to reveal some circular rails. On here is the letter O.

The Sparkly Funfair

1. K: a bit further into the level you’ll reach a fork, with a big circus tent on your left and some grappling points on your right. Go right and you’ll find the letter K on a platform.
2. A: continue on the main path and when you reach the next checkpoint, climb up the ledges and continue on this linear path until you find the letter A inside a crystal alcove.
3. Rune #42: found after defeating a large group enemies inside an Eternal World area. 
4. Eternal Well #12: you’ll soon reach another circus tent with some more enemies inside. Instead of entering it, go around it to find a grapple point that will lead you straight to this Eternal Well.
5. Heart Fragment #17: as you ride the Ferris wheel, this is sitting on a platform you can ledge onto.
6. Heart Fragment #18: as you make your way through the haunted mansion, you’ll eventually come across some bear traps on your left. Jump past these and in the next room is this Heart Fragment.
7. Eternal Well #13: continue on through the haunted mansion and you should eventually come across an Eternal World switch. Activate it to reveal some platforms leading you this Eternal Well.
8. O: after the Eternal Well above, return onto the main path. After rolling through three spiked traps, you’ll be at yet another fork. Go left and you should be able to see the letter O sitting on a ledge in the distance.
9. Rune #43: after riding up the elevator.
10. Rune #44: after rescuing Kaia.

The Isle of Eternity

1. Rune #45: after finishing The Sparkly Funfair, you’ll be spawning back at a new hub world, The Isle of Eternity. From where you spawn, go left and use the grapple point mid-way through this path to land on a new island with this Rune.
2. Rune #46: now go back up to the area where you’ve spawned in, but this time go straight ahead by crossing the bridge. In the next island, which should have the vendor in front of you and two paths, one on the right and one on the left, take the left one. Then, continue down some tracks and open up the crystal barrier (43 Runes required), to open up more of this hub world and reveal this Rune.

The Crystal Caverns

1. K: after opening the two gates at the start of the level, enter the area on the left. You will eventually, following the linear path of the level, find yourself in a room with some enemies and a rock that you need to pull using a wind charge. After pulling it, enter the alcove the rock was sitting in and you should be able to see some ledges you climb down on. Keep climbing and after ear-grappling a net, you’ll reach the ledge with the letter K.
2. Rune #47: from letter K’s location, return to where the rock was and ignite the furnace. This will open a gate and reveal this Rune.
3. Rune #48: now go back to the start of the level and enter the other gate. At the very end of this section is another furnace to ignite that will open up a new gate and reveal this Rune.
4. Eternal Well #14: now that both braziers are lit, ride down the elevator and proceed through the next rail grinding sequence. You will land in a new area with a pink monkey enemy. Defeat it and then look for a hole in the ground by one of the room corners. Drop down and continue on to the final Eternal Well.
5. A: after the Eternal Well, go back up into the room and activate the switch to open up a gate. Don’t use the trampoline. Instead, look down and you’ll be able to see the letter A sitting on one of the platforms below.
6. Rune #49: now use the trampoline and this Rune will be right in front of you.
7. Heart Fragment #19: in the same room with the previous rune, behind some spider webs. If you have been buying Heart Fragments from the various vendors in the hub worlds, this should be your last Heart Fragment and the trophy should unlock now. If not, you need to buy the remaining amount from the vendors when you exit this level.
8. O: exit this area through the gate and keep going until you spot a spinning platform. Look to your left and you should be able to spot the letter O hiding behind a wooden crate. If you’ve been following this Collectible Guide, this should be your last KAO letter and unlock the related trophy.
9. Rune #50: after destroying this level’s final crystal. If you’ve been following this Collectible Guide, this should be your final Rune and unlock the related trophy.
